I called Mr. Holland on the phone, described the problem and emailed him a photograph that illustrated the problem. Over the phone, he asked me to run a couple of simple tests and, a upon determining the nature of the problem, he concluded that the cost for the part + the repair did not justify the expense. He advised that instead I consider purchasing a new TV set. I obtained a second opinion, which confirmed Mr. Holland's opinion and advice. I thought this was a highly professional attitude as he looked first after the client's interests. I am posting this to applaud him. He did not charge for his advice. All the same, I decided to mail him some money for his help.

I'm very happy that the problem was fixed at no expense to me. Others might have made a service call to fix it.
Description of Work: When I called to ask for repairs because the TV sound wouldn't work, Deedee told me to make several checks on the equipment. First she had me play a CD to see if the sound worked on the CD. It did, so she had me turn the cable box off, wait a minute or so and let it re-boot. Everything worked OK after that. The sound was back on. She helped me without making a service call, but the help over the telephone (for free) was a lot of help. I know where I'll call when I have more problems.

Dee assured me after my first call to Captain Video that she would get back to me with probability of repair and she did, almost immediately. Her return call assured me that they could fix this particular set. We set an appointment and the technician was right on time. He repaired the set in my home by replacing three capacitors in the power supply rather than charge me for an all new supply. I am extremely pleased with the whole venture and definitely will return to Captain Video if I have any more TV problems.
Description of Work: Repaired my malfunctioning Dell plasma TV. It initially would display approximately 2-5 minutes after the power was turned on. Excellent service! My 98-year-old father was the only one home when they came, so they called me after the service call to tell me exactly what they did and why. I was very satisfied and happy that they were honest about what work was actually necessary. There have been no problems with the TV since the repair.
Description of Work: They tried to solve the problem with a Sony 55" TV over the phone, which would have cost nothing. That wasn't possible, so they came to the house and solved the problem by reprogramming the TV. They warned us that it could cost as much as $450 if a part needed to be replaced. Thankfully, that turned out not to be the case.

the office prompt courteous service starting with Dee in the office and continuing with Marty the repair technician. Arrived on time as notified conducted testing while explaining to layman the possible problems and costs involved. Marty suggested repair options and the parts were ordered immediately. Initial parts did not solve the problem. Dee reordered new parts with overnight express and service was performed the day of arrival. Can not say enough about the service and staff. I would have full trust in them for any TV/AUDIO repair.

I called Captain Video today and described my problem to the person who answered the phone. She was familiar with the problem as there were a lot of Samsung TV's that had this same problem. When I turned it on, there were multicolored vertical stripes. When I turned it off and back on, the stripes were gone. But the TV kept clicking on and off. It finally came on after about 15 minutes. The technician was able to come today, on the same day I made the call. The technician knew exactly what the problem was as soon as I described it. He said there were some circuits that were bad. He proceeded to take the TV apart, replaced the circuits and put it back together. It required that he disconnect all of my devices. He carefully labeled each cord so that he could easily reconnect them. He charged me the Angie's list price for the service call , and 75 (instead of $100. He charged me $150 for labor. And the circuits were 2.50 each. He could have overcharged for the circuits. But he didn't. The technician also told me that this problem was so common for this TV that there was a class action suit about it. he advised me to sent a copy of my receipt to Samsung to try to get them to pay it. The TV is working perfectly

From first phone contact ,(Dee Dee - delightfully cheerful, knowledgeable, able to begin problem assessment from their huge database of past repairs) through a knotty process of homing in on multiple problems (Greg - comfortably pleasant, like a long-time friend whose been doing this for years), this was a confidence inspiring experience. I'm an old guy with lots of and quot;fix-itand quot; history, so Greg's willingness to describe and explain the details as he went along reassured me that he knew just what he was doing. Two large circuit boards initially identified as defective (result of penny-pinching manufacture) were purchased quickly and installed a few days later. Then a new problem showed up as well (also corner-cutting manufacture). Greg, upon finding that a rebuilt part was not available and rather than stick me with another expensive new circuit board, offered to remove the board and replace the specific defective part, old-time and quot;proand quot; that he is. He charged a small labor fee for this after-hours repair back at the shop, and reinstalled the board the next day. Perfect! To top it all off, they seemed to genuinely try to limit my expense, even providing an additional discount for my proximity to their shop. These are rare people with lots of experience and good will! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Captain video replaced the integrated off/on switch on my 4 yr old samsung flat screen that kept cycling on and off. It is 60 in. and wallmounted so I needed to have someone here in addition to the technition to lift it off wall brackets., but I was informed about that when I made the appointment and able to have someone here. Everything went smoothly and the technition was very polite , efficient and decent (very comfortable having him in our home i.e. I would be comfortable having him service my elderly parents devices w/o needing to be there). In my case the part to be replaced cost hundreds more than the labor did, which I believe is something to take up with samsung not the service tech. He was very knowledgable and not a long winded busybody or in any way offensive. Would not hesitate to call again, and have no need to look any further for such service.... Good buy Best Buy repair!

The service went very well. The office staff at Captain Video got back to us within a very timely manner. Additionally, Marty, the technician called the morning of the service call to let us know about what time he would arrive. He was very punctual. He was also professional, knowledgeable and personable. After checking the TV, he explained to us why we were having problems and he was able to adjust it enough so that can now see what before was too dark. We know that the television is on its way out since it is over 11 years old but Marty was able to give it enough of a new life so that we don't have to get a new television just yet. Even though our service was just for the darkness, Marty noticed that the HD on the TV had never been enabled. He went ahead and enabled that for us as well. He also told us that if our darkness problem resurfaces within 60 days, they will come back out.
Description of Work: The picture on our TV was very dark. We called Captain Video to see if an adjustment could be made to our TV. The technician checked the TV and performed repair work to lessen the darkness. He also noted that our HD had not been enabled and he fixed that as well. He then showed us how to better use the remote that came with the television to adjust the picture in the future.

Last week, Monday 4/22/13, we had a contractor here from Capt Video Big Screen TV Repair. The technicial was professional, polite and very helpful. He determined that the computer wasn't talking to itself properly so the TV would not come back on once we turned it off. He informed us we needed either a new computer terminal to it or we could buy a new TV. There are refurbished parts or new ones. WE opted for a new part which could have cost anywhere from $450 to $900. He ordered the part and returned on Friday, 4/26/2013 to install it. Once he opened the TV set, it was learned that apparently this was a two piece part. Seems even though he had the serial number that was not noted and he didn't even know there were two piece computer parts. So, off the poor guy went and the earliest we could be present for repairs to be completed wasn't till Monday the 29th. He was willing to come Saturday, but we had other plans. He arrived punctually, as always and the work was completed in no time at all! This experience was one of the best service visits we've had with anyone on any piece of equipment. Many thanks and many kudos to Captain Video!

Captain Video In Home TV SVC was absolutely great -- they were very helpful in expediting the ordering and installation of a replacement lamp for our LG DLP projection TV. They went out of their way to make sure this got done before I had to go out of town. (The old, broken lamp didn't have that many hours on it, so we wanted them to come out to evaluate the TV to make sure there was nothing else wrong with it.) They charged $75 for the service, plus the cost of the lamp. We wholeheartedly recommend them.

They came out and looked at it and said it could be the CR2. He made a few minor adjustments and got it to look somewhat decent. The TV is pretty old and he advised that it wouldn't be worth it to put more money into. All he did was charge me for the service call.

Booking the appointment was a little frustrating since their email address on their website was not working. I finally called to setup the appointment and told them that their email address did not work. They did accomidate the appointment around our work schedule. My wife was at home during the appointment and she said that the overall the process was quick and efficient. It only took the tech (Marty) 10 minutes to evalute the TV. Her only complaint was that the tech did not have a shirt or card to identify himself as the tech from Captain Video. My only complaint was that they forgot to send me documentation of the estimate, so I had to call the next day. They did tell me that if I needed any other documentation to let them know.

I was having an intermittent problem with a snapping-popping noise on my 40-inch Sony LCD HD TV. Thinking it might be the cable box, I had it replaced, but the problem remained. I found Captain Video on Angie's List, sent them an email, and they responded promptly. They initially asked if I could bring the set in (to save me money), but since I couldn't (the set is too heavy for me), they sent out a technician to my house on the same day. Marty listened to my description of the problem, asked several questions, and determined that it was most likely a problem with the HDMI connection between the TV and the cable box, with the cable box being the problem. He told me he had seen the same problem several times and explained what was causing it to happen. He suggested I switch from the HDMI connectors to component connectors, and asked me if I had component connectors, which he could use rather than me buying new connectors. It turned out I did. He installed the new connectors, made several adjustments to the settings on the TV and the cable box, and now it works perfectly! He also told me that in the unlikely event the problem recurred, how to diagnose it as a TV problem or a cable box problem. I am extremely impressed with how knowledgeable Marty is and how he was able to convey that knowledge to me in a way that I could understand. I was afraid I'd have to buy a new TV, but instead, for $99 I have a working TV and knowledge about its "innards" that I didn't have before. I would highly recommend Captain Video to anyone with a TV problem.
