COLONIAL ROOFING

Excellent in all respects.  Carl runs a very professional operation.  The work was high-quality, and was done on time and on budget; schedules were met and his employees are courteous and leave the place clean.  I am very pleased with the roof.  The price was significantly higher than what many similar projects would cost.  Partly that's because I used an expensive type of roof shingle, and partly it's because, judging from other bids I got, Carl charges more than other roofing contractors.  But I wanted the job done right and he came highly recommended, so I was willing to pay extra, and I don't regret the decision.

I would absolutely recommend Carl and Colonial Roofing. The best thing I can say is that he is a nice, honest, reliable, guy who did exactly what he said he was going to do. I would not hesitate to refer him to anyone.

It went great.  The job turned out to be more complicated and take longer than anticipated but the contractor stuck with the original estimated price and did a great job. Every detail was handled professionally and the crew was courteous and meticulous.  I have since recommended Colonial Roofing to a friend who was satisfied with the work done for her.  Carl, the owner, is a great person to do business with. I had a number of bids on the job but am very very glad I chose Carl and Colonial Roofing.

Carl came to do the estimate.  He was extremely pleasant and engaging.  He related as if he were considering a date. He then sent his bid.  It was outrageously high, $10,000 more than the highest bid,  $20,000 more than the lowest bid.  He called to follow up and when I said it was a "bit high", he wanted to know what the other bids were.  I told him.  He said he would check his numbers.  He called me back several days later and said that he was off by "one decimal".  He lowered the bid by $10,000 dollars, not one decimal of $48,000 he initially quoted me.  When I did not accept his offer, he called and called for several months.  The last time he called he apparently
forgot that he had reduced the initial bid.  No other roofer called me and persisted as he did.  Perhaps his fishing and persisting pay off big for him, he's got a job up the street now. 

Carl was incredible, patient, and helpful throughout the complicated job. The old roof had many angles, a steep pitch, and was big (approx 50 squares.) The job required coordination and scheduling with the demolition of existing ducting, and the installation in two phases of attic insulation, new ducting, and new heating & A/C systems. Carl was easy to work with, informative, unflappable when glitches occurred. His demolition crew was fast and so clean you couldn't tell a roof had been ripped off. His roofers were polite, fast, accommodating. Given that we lived through the whole process, we can't say enough in their favor.

Carl the owner was very polite but very busy. I contracted the job with him but my roof was delayed many times before it actually was replaced. Some of the work was sloppy (ie-uneven cutting of shingles along side of roof) but the work was repaired when we pointed out deficiencies. What bothered me the most was the lack of oversight of the job by the owner and complete delegation of work to a foreman whom I had never met.
