Lousy company policy and even worse management. After I paid $1000 for material and gave them 2 weeks to deliver roadbase, they never asked what time to deliver. I rented equipment to move earth and material. On the day of delivery they were NO-SHOW!!!! We spoke to them the morning of delivery and they said nothing about being ready for a call. We waited until the delivery window which already cost me 1/2 day of productivity. We called to ask about delivery and they canceled the order without telling us. I paid $1000 for earth moving machinery for NOTHING. THEY WERE NOT APOLOGETIC and didn't try to solution their blunder. They hung up on us when we said no one ever told us to wait for their call. UNPROFESSIONAL!! Steer clear of this lousy business. You will thank me later!

The service I received from Hasties has been one of the worst I've ever experienced, and now justifies my warning to all potential customers. On Tues. July 7th, I ordered and paid for 2 Yds of gravel. I postponed scheduling the delivery date to the following day in order to confirm project assistance. The following day (Wed 8th) I called the main office to request delivery on Thurs 9th. I was informed by the young woman taking the call (Kaylynn) that Thurs was booked, and the earliest time frame would be Friday for delivery. I went ahead and booked for Friday, and then asked for the time of delivery, and was told the delivery schedule was established at close of business, the day before deliveries. I was informed that I could call at 7:00am on day of delivery, and would be given a three hour time window for my delivery. On Friday the 10th, my girlfriend called at 7:04, and after providing info to confirm the sale, was told that our delivery was scheduled between 1-3pm. After 3:30 passed, I called Hasties to inquire about the delay. The manager got on the phone after a young woman informed me that my delivery was scheduled for Thursday the following week. This is sheer incompetence, and even though the manager tried to assuage my frustration with a delivery for the following day, I declined and demanded my money back. I will never do business with Hasties again. The managers excuse? People make mistakes. What she ignored, was that someone lied to my girlfriend the morning of the 10th at 7:04 am. A young woman told her the delivery was for 1-3pm later that day. Guess what, I can provide proof of everything that was said. When you do business, you don't expect them to lie to you. When they do Lie, and then, management tries to cover for the lies, You don't place your business or trust in them ever again.

I have used Hastie's several times in the past 4 years or so for landscaping materials, including bark and various types and sized of rock, and have been happy with the quality of their service and products. However, my most recent shipment of rock (5 CY of 1.5-inch "Ione Gold" rock) was poor quality, and only about 3 of the 5 CY's were usable (the rest is dirt and stone small enough to qualify as "path fines").
I called the Sacramento/Jackson Hwy location that I ordered the stone from to tell them about the quality issues and they would neither refund my account for the percentage of unusable product nor come and take back the unusable portion, which compounds the product issue with an even worse customer service issue. All they offered were excuses about the supplier.
I can probably get someone to come take it off of my hands through Craigslist or what have you, but I'm pretty disappointed in Hasties and because of this I don't intend to call them for products anymore.

I ordered 20 cy of 3/4 rainbow lava rocks $43.00 a CY for my back yard. I was excited on getting started shoveling the rock from my front drive way and moving it to the back yard. It took over 200 trips which I did myself. But as I shovel about 2 feet into it , there became more and more dirt. I called Hasties and ask if they would send someone out to look at it which they did the very next day. Unfortunately this is where it ended. The sales guy saw the pile, he went in the back yard and could see the areas of the clean rock vs the rocks that had a lot of dirt mixed with it. I had pictures which he saw them also. His response was I will talk to the manager and get back to you. I never heard from him. After a week I put the remaining 5 yards on craigslist to give away free. OF course it went FAST! I called around before deciding to go with Hasties. I picked them because of how professional they seem to be even though their prices were higher then their competitors. I just thought maybe the quality would be better but now I realize all of them just get their products from the same location. Anyway a lesson well learned.

I went into the West Sacramento office to place my order. All of the guys working there were very pleasant to deal with and I felt like I was treated with respect. They never made me feel stupid for any of my questions, and were very efficient. I have a steep and narrow driveway, so I was not sure if the driver would be able to drop the sand in the driveway or would have to leave it on the street. They put a note on the order to see me for the delivery location. The driver called before he headed over on the morning I requested delivery, and when he got there we looked over the driveway and he said he thought he should be able to get the truck up it. He pointed out that the sand would spread out and completely block the driveway (which I was okay with, but I was glad he thought to mention it). He was able to place the pile almost exactly where we talked about.
The sand is clean, and does what it is supposed to do. I will definitely call them for my next project. (They had price sheets available in their office, which lets me know what I can call them for and helps me in pricing out various plans I am considering).

Our experience with this Co. was mixed. The first load of soil we got delivered. They were prompt in delivering it and all went well. The second load we picked up a couple of weeks later and split with some friends of ours. All seemed to go well at first...that is until the growing of the plants was underway. The ones planted in the first load grew pretty well (nothing spectacular) but the plants grown in the second load managed to get going for about a month and then totally crapped out. The same was true for the friends we spit the load with. Their plants made it about a month or so and then all growth ground to a halt. Both ours and theirs then just browned up gradually and died despite our pleadings with them and other efforts to salvage something of these plants. Totally different backyards in every respect (well, we both have black weber grills), same problem with the plants. Ok, so we got a bad load. Sucks but I'm sure not unmanageable. I'll just call up Hasties and try to find out what to do. Maybe have the soil tested, maybe they can tell me what I should amend it with, etc. The first call I put in was answered by a woman (sounded young) who I think I would fire if I had the intestinal fortitude to actually own a business in the first place and she worked for me and I heard her talk to a client the way she talked to me. After telling her what happened with the plants grown in the second load and her looking up the information about our first purchace (which they have on record) she asks me, and lets just say less than politely, if I have any proof that I bought the second load from Hasties. I said I didn't know if I still had the receipt but was that really an issue and she says to me, and I quote, "I'm not going to just take your word for it". Look, I have not been rude, I have not been accusatory, I have not asked for anything at this point, neither advice nor for compensation, nothing, and that is the reaction I get. First of all, I would never say this to a customer even if I truly believed they were crooks. It's just plain rude not to mention what if you are wrong? You just completely offended and alienated a customer. Secondly, look at the logic of the situation. If I'm a scheister, why would I even tell you it was the second load that the plants grew poorly in. If I'm a scheister I call up and say, you delivered a load of soil to me and it was bunk, check your records and give me my money back. No crook is gonna call up and say I got two loads of soil from you, one that you have a record of and one that you don't but don't worry, it was the one you don't have a record of that is c*** (actually, c*** would have been preferable to what they provided), So, being the passive loser customer that I am I tell her I will try to find the receipt since she can't 'just take my word for it,' and call her back. When I can't find the receipt I call back feeling a little emboldened after considering how I've just been treated and ready to "demand to speak with her manager". But, the phone is answered by a different woman who was much nicer which immediately renders my planned angry tirade into a little piddly snivel about droopy tomatoes and she tells me the guy who deals with complaints is not in but she'll have him call me Monday. Naturally, Monday comes and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and 1 month later still no call from the guy who deals with complaints. Meanwhile, I have amended the soil with a load of composted horse manure that I got from a friend and we'll see how the tomatoes look this year. So all told, we got one good and one crappy load of soil, were treated both with great rudeness and with pleasantness. The experience almost cancels itself out.

I bought sand and gravel from them on three different occasions. Every time, they provide good service at the front counter and also on their material yard. They provide a nice clean environment in their office to order the materials. Sample of materials and price list conveniently provided in the office, so there are no unwanted surprises. The material loaders are courteous, prompt, and cautious not to damage your truck or car during the loading process. The material lot is clean, clear marking on the material storage bins and ample of space to park your truck or car for loading.

I am very happy the service. I was able to call for an estimate, pay via credit card over the phone, and tell them when and where I wanted it delivered. They followed through on everything and I ordered enough that delivery was free!

I live on a very large lot and they delivered a truckload of mulch to my property and dumped it where I asked. They were prompt and efficient and they deliver for free with a minimum of 4 cubic yards, which is not much if you have any size yard.

AFTER CALLING OTHER COMPANIES, WE DECIDED TO CALL THIS COMPANY BASED ON A FRIEND'S RECOMMENDATION (EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT LOCALLY OPERATED). THEY HAD THE LOWEST PRICE BY FAR AND PROVIDED FAST AND FRIENDLY SERVICE. THE TRUCK EVEN DEPOSITED THE LOAD UP OUR STEEP DRIVEWAY.
