We are not happy with the service we received. We will not be hiring J.C. Estrada in the future at this location, nor at our apartment building.
The day the work was done Mr. Estrada was not on site to supervise his workers. As they were cleaning up I noticed an 8 foot section of flashing that seemed to be loose. I used my index finger to tug on it a bit, and the whole 8 foot section dropped off the roof. When one of the men went back up to the roof to fix this, I pointed out to him piece of flashing around an external pipe that seemed to be unfinished as well. The worker put a nail into it and waked away without covering it in any way. The repaired roof was never tested by the crew.
I called Mr. Estrada and asked him to come inspect the job which he did later that afternoon. After making sure the first flashing was secure, and putting some mastic on the nail that the worker had put in the second flashing, Mr. Estrada assured me several times that his men, "...have been doing this for 20 years and know what they are doing". He also assured me several times that the job was guaranteed for 10 years so if anything did go wrong he would fix it at no charge.
When the rain came in December the roof that had been 'repaired' leaked in 4 places. I called Mr. Estrada and left a message on voice mail about the leaks. He did not return my call. I emailed him several weeks later, in January when we got more rain, and he called, then agreed to meet me at the house to inspect the roof.
Mr. Estrada looked around in the house, then on the roof and now said that the leak was actually coming from a valley in the roof that was not on the section he repaired, also that there was a 'new' vent on the roof (trying to say that something had been installed in the roof after his company had done their job), and that he would need an additional $500 to do the job right.
Nobody else had been on that roof since he was up there, so no, nothing 'new' had been installed that was now leaking. I have images of his crew doing the work with the vent in question clearly in place. As to why I should put up more money to finish a job that had a "10 year guarantee" , he had no answer. When pressed, he said he would do the additional work for $475 but no lower. I said, "If I agree to that amount I expect you (Mr. Estrada) to be here to supervise the job being done". His response was, "I can't do business that way... you can't expect me to be on site for every job..... my men have over 20 years of experience and they know what they are doing." But the roof still leaks.
When a roofer, or other contractor give you a 10 year guarantee, that means, to me, that I won't have to worry about that problem again for at least 10 years, or I expect that contractor to fix the problem at no extra cost. The roof still leaks. Mr. Estrada won't fix it unless I pay him more. His 10 year guarantee, is worthless.
Further, the fact that Mr. Estrada won't take steps to personally supervise a job gone wrong by a company with his name on it shows me that he does not really care about this job.... or maybe any other job.
The roof still leaks. We won't be calling him again, or recommend his roof work.
