We have a 1+ year old Terrier Mix rescue dog. At the time we contacted Ralf, we had Bengie for about 4 months. Bengie is small (15 lbs) but HAD a temper and didn't do well around strangers and other dogs. He is very attached to my wife. When Bengie growled nastily and bit me on my nose (actually the 3rd time I had been nipped) we decided that we either return him to the rescue agency OR find a trainer to try to change his behavior. I found Ralf and 'Happy Dog Training' on Angies List. Ralfs location in Corona is not close to our home to Cerritos. We called Ralf for our free consultation and were told by Ralf that he trains all over the LA basin area. As expected, Ralf's initial contact with Bengie wasn't very pleasant (alot of barking and distrust). It didn't take long for Ralf to become in control of Bengie. In our consultation Ralf fully explained the behavorial aspects of dog training and we agreed to continue with the training on a once per week basis for one hour (at our house). My wife and I worked with Bengie to reinbforce the training techniques Ralf had shown us. By the end of the 3rd 1 hour session ($ 100 each) Bengie was able to walk through the neighborhood and meet strangers and other dogs with no problem (there have been a couple of very minor exceptions - we did not expect perfection). Bengie and I are now best buddies. He is truly now a great dog and a great friend and I do not think this would have occurred without the guidance provided by Ralf. His rate of $ 100 per hour seemed a little pricey to me, but I also expected we would need a minimum of 6 sessions, and we only wound up needing 3. The cost was well worth the professional training that we all received. We MORE than received out money's worth. The cjhanges in Bengies temperment are amazing. I think Ralf was even surprised during our 3rd session at how well Bengie had adapted. I strongly recommend Ralf for your dog training needs.

Ralf responded quickly to my request for a consultation. I opted for a comprehensive training program as I had adopted an adult dog from a shelter with who needed to start training from scratch. My dog immediately took to Ralf, with adoring respect. We set up a weekly training schedule which was flexible due to my work travel. My dog and I were not as dedicated as we should have been between training sessions but nonetheless my dog learned and I learned. Ralf is very patient. I have a much better understanding of dog thinking and am very happy with the amount of advice and knowledge I received from Ralf concerning everything from canine nutrition to legal responsibilities of a dog owner; myself and others. My dog listens better, understands commands, and pays attention to me. I have learned how to help him be a better companion.

Ralf came by my house on a weekly basis to work with my dog and I. Buster had been so cute when he was little, but he got big and almost pulled my arm off one morning when we encountered a family of racoons on our morning walk. So, I worked with Ralf - what I have learned is that "dog" training is really owner training. Ralf did a good job. I am a person who likes to have the dogs on the couch with me and I don't mind them sleeping on the bed either. Ralf never made me feel bad about these kinds of things, he just worked with what I wanted. Ralf is a very dedicated dog owner who cooks for his own dogs and when it became clear to him that that was not going to happen in my house (I barely cook for myself), he just told me what kind of food to buy. Ralf was always flexible when I needed to change our schedule and he was happy to do remedial work when Buster and I forgot how to do something. Ralf really helped me help Buster to be a better dog.
