The deal was for 2 painters for a day- Todd came out and looked at my townhouse (988 square feet) and said it couldn't possibly be done in 2 days for $480. I asked him to send me an estimate for the entire house- he came back with an additional $1100 to do the woodwork and ceilings - I resposded to the email and said let's just do the original - $480 for 2 painters for a day.
The two painters arrived at a reasonable time, and were very personable. They completed the walls in about 8 hours. I checked their work and it looked ok based on what I could see at the time. Later in the evening as lighting changed, I found they had completely missed an area in the master bedroom, about 36" long and 2-3 inches high. There was an area on a wall facing that had been missed and there were dirty fingerprints above the window. I also noticed that one of the painters did not tape any of the floorboards- and there was a lot of paint on them- already dried. In another room, they took the blinds down, but didn't put them back- and in another room, there was a section about 4" wide the length of the wall, that didn't get painted. All of the mirror edges on 3 mirrors were covered with dry paint.
One of the painters was good about using drop clothes and taping off necessary areas - the other did not do so, when I asked him aobut it, he said he was able to paint fine without it. Unfortunately, that was not the case as every floorboard on the walls he painted is covered with paint.
All the furniture had to be moved to the center of the room, standard practice and not a problem. But because no drop clothes were used, I have paint splashes on much of the furniture.
I emailed them about the things that needed to be fixed, even sent pictures and received an automated response that they had recieved my email and would get back to me. 5 weeks later they still have not done so, which is why I'm not able to provide them with a better grade.
"thank you"
"never worked for him the man dont pic he's phone up"
it took a few days to get an estimate for the job. it was more than the deal as our house was pretty big, but we expected that. when we finally started to get the job scheduled, they said the job would go from Monday through Friday but as the house was so big it might have to go to the following week starting on Wednesday as they had another job scheduled. Again, we were fine with that.
where it started to go South was getting a call at 9pm on Sunday night before the job was supposed to start saying the van broke down and they would start Tuesday. due to my husbands and my schedule, I scheduled myself to take Tuesday off as we only had one car. didn't find out until Tuesday after 9am that they were not coming as the van was still broken. Todd's assistant CJ told me she left a message for me, but there was none on any of my phones (work, home or cell) Needless to say, if I knew that they were not coming, I would have scheduled my day differently. I understand things happen, but I really wish they communicated to me better. I can forgive a lot as long as you tell me things. the only time this would not have been an issue is if the it happened on the way to the job...
they came on Wednesday to power wash the house. Thursday was scrape, sand and prime. Friday they showed up before 6am and woke up my husband (who wears earplugs, I had left for work already) which means I am sure they woke up my neighbors. they started painting the house and stayed until 8:30pm. they came back on Saturday and finished up things.
so the job went from up to 8 days down to 3.5. they only painted one coat. they told me to get a total of 22 gallons of paint. the paint store only had 17 so that is what I picked up. a total of 14 was used so while it is good we have some extra, I am glad I didn't buy the extra paint. however if they put up the 2 coats as I was actually expecting, I wouldn't have complained.
but as they did this job so fast I am wondering what corners they cut.
also, these guys chat, bicker and banter all the time. there is no time when they don't talk it seems. this was a bit unnerving at times.
and the last nail in the coffin was that they painted all but one window shut. we live in an older home (Craftsman) with the original sash windows. Experienced painters should know they would need to open said windows when painting. we didn't think to test the windows until later, when it was rather warm. The response we got from Todd was that he would come out 'next week'. I am sorry, but that sort of thing doesn't sit well with me and considering we already paid them, there was actually no incentive for them to come back. I asked for a date and got from CJ that she 'understood and would try'. I hated to have to do this but I informed them that we would cancel the check and reissue payment once the windows were open. I got a call 2 minutes later and was told that they would arrive Monday first thing.
They came Monday and unstuck the windows, but wanted to make sure we really used the windows.
as I said before. I can forgive a lot as long as I am told what to expect and in a timely fashion - I know last minute things are unavoidable, but pretty much everything that went wrong on this job could have been averted if they communicated things to us ahead of time
"We arrived at the home to do the painting work, while going over the home with our client, there was a group of people whistling and such as to notify others that our employees where there. Our employees asked the client about the neighbor hood as they were feeling uneasy due to the growing number of people in the area. The client did not actually respond to the question regarding the neighborhood, however her son told our employees to make sure that the iron gate around the home was to be locked at all times other wise "they will rip off everything that you have" Our employees (2 males) left to go to get gas for the power washer so that that could begin the work. At the stop sign our employees were approached by 4 men and 2 pit bulls, they were told to give them all of their money and equipment. The dogs were literally almost in our employees truck. Our employees then left and tried to contact the client that was sleeping from working her night shift. Our office manager called her and left her a message to explain as to why the work was not being completed. We later received a call from the client and were able to explain to her what had happened. We did offer to complete the work with a police escort on site, however this was not arranged. We always strive to make our clients happy, however the safety of our employees is also our priority. No employee should have to be fearful of losing the tools that they use to make a living, nor be afraid for their own safety while on a job site. We sincerely apologize for not being able to complete the work, however our employee safety is important to us as well."
"We thank our client for their feedback regarding the pricing of the paint job. Unfortunately for the amount of work that would have to be done on the client's home, we had to add additional charges to complete the work. We would however be willing to speak with the client, and discuss other pricing possibilities."
But, let's just say, a single coat of paint did not cut it. had to completely redo at least 2 walls to cover the areas that still showed patches of the old paint. They did not remove one of the pieces of furniture from the wall, tried to paint around it, spattered it with paint instead, then finally took it off the wall to finish the job, but it took me 30 minutes to get half the tiny yellow dots off the green table.
Also, I had a lot of spatter to clean off the floors, picking with my fingernail, splat by splat. (Tiny little dots).
From afar, the job was OK, from closer up and during the daylight hours, it was as described above. It took me 3 hours to 'finish up'.
Whatever, the basic work was accomplished. It looks pretty darned good now. I just would have been more appreciative of pride in the final product.
"We have contacted (Member name removed) and she found that the estimate was in her spam folder... We are working with (Member name removed), and have her scheduled to complete her paint job in the month of May."
"Regarding the challenges that [member name removed] has reported in not receiving his estimate, there was a miscommunication regarding his email address. We asked several times for the correct spelling of the email address. After several tries we were finally able to get the correct email and send over the estimate to [member name removed]. We strive to give outstanding service to our customers and are still trying to work with [member name removed] in order to earn his business."
