UPDATE 4/20/11: Nancy the sales manager called regarding my original post. She was noticeably upset and defensive, but did apologize for my experience. After she calmed down and we were able to have a conversation, communication was much better. I learned how passionate and dedicated she is. I hope she understood my point which is very simple - any representative from the company is a direct extension and representation of the company, for better or worse. First impressions are extremely important. It is essentially an interview. As a show of good faith, I gave ADR another chance. Isaac, the owner, gave me a very competitive price. I thanked him for the exceptional price, but declined. I appreciated that Isaac was really trying to go out of his way to earn my business. At the end of our conversation, I felt that we understood each other and had mutual appreciation and respect for one another. If I had dealt with Isaac from the start, he might possibly have had my business. Business is not all about the price - at least in my book. Relationship, trust, honesty, respect and last, but certainly not least, is comfort. I had already found all those things with another company. I gave my word that I would update my comments. However, I made it clear that I have not and do not completely remove or edit a post. That would defeat the honesty of Angie's List by not letting the users see the whole picture. With that being said, I did remove a few strong words, but the post is otherwise intact. It appears that Bill did not reflect the company in the best light. Isaac and Nancy did show me a much better side to the company and for that, I have improved their score. ORIGINAL POST 4/11/11: This company is a high pressure sales tactics company. First the salesperson, Bill, calls 10 minutes late to tell me he's a couple of minutes away. He shows up 30 minutes later (bad sign). His shirt buttons are not even buttoned in the middle (are you kidding me?). He starts his pitch telling me how the solar panel that is specially made for his company will give me exactly the wattage as labeled. I asked him, "...really, so you're telling me it has 0% tolerance and there's no loss whatsoever?" He quickly skipped to another panel. When I asked him what the PTC (PVusa Testing Conditions) is, he again changed the subject. Without even looking at my roof, he says he can give me a 3.75kW system that is normally $50K for $45K, but if I sign today, Isaac the owner will give it to me for $35K. I ask him about Mitsubishi panels and he tells me "...they're junk. I can get those dirt cheap because they're going out of business." HUH? I told him that should be really good for my quote since they list Mitsubishi as one of the brands they sell on their website. When I told Bill I would not be signing today, he couldn't pack up fast enough. I tried to give him the $1000 coupon just in case he did send me a good quote and he told me to hang on to it. Needless to say, I never heard back from ADR. BTW I already had a quote for a 5.4 kW system for $28K. So not only was their system grossly undersized, but it was also way overpriced. Oh this was funny, I asked Bill why the system is sized so small and he said we couldn't fit anymore panels on the roof. I asked him how he knew and he said he saw our house on Google maps. I asked if he wanted to see the roof because another company said I could fit at least 24 panels. He didn't have a ladder and said the company didn't carry worker's comp for him. Really? I thought all employees were covered by worker's comp. So we went on the terrace in my backyard and I showed him where panels could go. He told me I was right and that Google maps was wrong. Give me a break. A word of advice - do some research on your project before you interview ANY company for ANY project to avoid getting suckered.
