Overall, working with Derk Johan Kuypers was difficult. He and his foreman, Ron, disagreed on a major issue of my project from the beginning . . whether or not to remove a major root system of the creeping fig covering the main block wall. The project manager, Ron, said DO NOT REMOVE THE ROOT, and that eliminated the need for $780.00 worth of composite edging. Derk said YES, remove the major root, risking wall covering dying and falling off, according to Ron, the project mgr. Derk overcharged me for over 30 sq ft of St Augustine sod. I only know this because the delivery person left the delivery receipt by mistake which revealed the exact amount that Derk had ordered. Derks hauled away several flats of unused SOD, as we saw it in their trailer. I discovered a cut off water bottle filled with urine in one of my plant areas. Left by one of Derk's crew members. I told Ron, project manager, if anyone needs to use the restroom, just ask. I paid for the work 1 month ago. My plants are dying and I had to hire a professional (paid) to find out why. The sprinkler system is not operating properly and the plants, (invoiced for $2410.00) are not receiving proper watering. I have called Derks for two weeks and finally had to hire an outside vendor to access the problem. Derk Kuypers guaranteed that as long as we purchased the sprinkler system, he would guarantee the plants. I wanted a Chinese Snowball plant instead of the Star Jasmine that Derks suggested. I learned that the plant I wanted was not readily accessible in our immediate area. I would have gone to pick it up but they suggested Star Jasmine. I agreed. $175.00. It was not planted properly.

"[Member Name Removed] is a confused elderly lady who [Member Info Removed] . We added an additional sprinkler station in the front yard to give her 100% coverage to ensure that the 60 sq. ft. of Marathon II we planted in the parkway after lowering it to grade would solve the standing water on the sidewalk issue. We also planted plants in the front yard and added blended soil. We installed a sprinkler system (4 inch popups along circumference) to insure 100% coverage of the St. Augustine sod lawn. That was for the lawn ONLY. She elected NOT to replace the existing system ,too costly ,which was in the planters. She was instructed several times on the operation of the timer and specific instructions as to the amount of water the lawn and the new plants needed for proper rooting. My employee offered to be her gardner for at least the next two or three months to insure proper rooting and watering. The front yard had their original timer so no learning curve there, and she said they would the program. My employee went back and answered questions and adjusted the sprinklers for her because could not understand that some oversray is the nature of the beast. She was told each time NOT to mess with the system and to leave it to her gardner. She was also told that when you have a landscape with curves, you either have some wet concrete OR dead plants and brown lawn . The timers were adjusted so as to minimize water usage, BUT certainly NOT by us. Plants were properly planted using blended soil , but apparently NOT properly watered. The onus is on the customer to follow instructions to insure that the plants and lawn will thrive. Six follow-up visits just to placate this confused old woman is above and beyond the call of business after declining the maintenance offer."

They were very professional. They showed up when they were supposed to and they finished the work when they were supposed to. I was very pleased with them. I thought the price was fair for what they did. I have already told them that I will use them in the future.

They did a good job. They were competitive on their pricing. They were there when they said they were going to do it. They finished it in about the amount of time that they said that it was going to take to finish it. They have a good warranty. They did a great job.

Overall, it went fine. Derk was very responsive to phone calls and emails. Ron, the supervisor, was very hard working and thorough.

From the initial call to when they started work went in a smooth timely manner. They were on the job when they said they would be and left after completion and walk through. Derk was always available in person or by phone.

Jesus came out to build the pads. He had previously built a gravel and stone path in the front of our house, so we knew we were in excellent hands. He reworked an older, damaged pad by resetting pavers, and cemented the outer perimeter edge for stability. The new pad was carefully oriented and lined up with existing structures- and it's surface was expertly leveled using a "base" and sand material; the outer "brick" pavers were also set into concrete for stability.

All tasks were done with care to detail. Because they were each small jobs, we were "fit" into Derk's schedule - But once work started, they worked to completion. All specialists sent were experienced in their field. We were very pleased. Our recommendation source said that Derk has been in this field for 25 years, and prefers small jobs. This is just the type of job that is hard to have properly done.
