Alex worked with me to get what I wanted: adding AC and replacing old furnace to improve electrical efficiency while keeping costs down and including permits and HERS testing.

Alex inspected the furnace and quickly figured out what was the issue.  He was professional and really cared to make things work.  I would highly recommend Alex.  He really knows his craft/trade!  He recommended how I should maintain and upkeep the unit to ensure it won't fail.  I would definitely be requesting for Alex's service when the need arises in the future.

We became aware that our furnace was not working in the afternoon of 12/29/15, when the house began to feel uncomfortably cold. We called the Palo Alto City utilities number, and an inspector came out, could find no trouble with the gas and tried to turn the furnace on again for us.  He thought the igniter was the problem. So we began to call heating service people to get it repaired as quickly as possible. This cold snap turns out to be a bad time to find someone able to come quickly.  One company could come on 12/31. But the Ortiz people could squeeze us in on 12/30, they said, between 11 and 12.  The repairman arrived on time (11:45), had a spare part in hand, and fixed it immediately. He was very pleasant, asking about our holidays, joking with us, explaining the heater, checking out its age and condition, and discussing the service needs people had experienced in this cold weather. It did not take long, and we are so grateful that he was able to come as quickly as he did. Less than 24 hours had gone by between the time of realizing we had a serious problem (no heat in the house) and getting it fixed. I enthusiastically recommend Ortiz Heating and Air Conditioning to all in need of their services.

They were excellent. They were on time and the pricing was good. He couldn't do the work but he cleaned up some things and didn't charge me full price for a house call. The house call was $65 or something and he just charged me half because he couldn't do the service because my condo has strange heating. He told me to call and talk to my condo manager. That's what I did. I talked to the condo manager. He came up and got the problem solved. That was worth a half price visit. I like the company. I give him best marks in all categories.

Ortiz removed and replaced existing furnace system in a tight crawl space. Previous system had been improperly installed by Gaffigan, so that too-small ducts wore out the furnace prematurely. Did not consider calling Gaffigan back because they had had to install that system twice, the first time after using plastic ducts in the crawlspace, ducts that were chewed apart and infested by rats. After Gaffigan completely rebuilt the rat-infested system, 10 years later their flawed installation made the entire system unusable.
Ortiz did everything promised in replacing the old system with a higher quality, more efficient heating system, within a tight timeframe and in a tight crawlspace. The system I have now is more comfortable, gas bills are lower, and it looks good, too. The furnace is cradled by wood bracing, and Ortiz replaced the crawl space entry door and installed a light so that access for any maintenance will be easier. In contrast the system installed by Gaffigan had the furnace placed on the dirt floor of the crawl space with no lighting.
The Ortiz crew was pleasant, hard working, and knowledgable. The replacement cost, even though everything was replaced and I gained two new outlets, came to less than what I paid a decade before for Gaffigan's services. I highly recommend Ortiz.
