M&M Custom Flooring

We thought we were just going to pull up carpet in our living and dining room and refinish the hardwood floors we believed were underneath. But it was not that simple. First we discovered that there was not hardwood under the dining room but there was asbestos. By the time we discovered the asbestos tiles we had already removed a great deal of carpet so there was no going back. And as long as we were having the tile in the dining room tested for asbesto, we decided to have the ugly linoleum in the kitchen tested as well. They found layers of asbestos in both rooms. We then proceeded to get estimates for asbestos removall refinishing the floors in the living room and halls and adding new hardwood in the dining room along with new tile in the kitchen. We were impressed with Daniel from M & M right away. He seemed knowledgeable and easy to work with. He explained the entire process and gave us lots of good advise without any saleman pressure. His was not the lowest bid we received but we felt his estimate was fair and we knew we would be in good hands if we choose to work with him. In the end we decided to go with M & M for both the hardwood and tile floors. Daniel and his crew were very professional, worked around the schedule of the asbestos removal company and helped us meet our deadline of finishing most of the work before our sons wedding. In fact, they even finished the bulk of the work ahead of schedule. Most of the work was done prior to the wedding and then because we loved the work they did, we decided to have them come back the next month and refinish the wood floors in two additional rooms You can tell the whole crew really cares about doing a good job. We did make one mistake which we learned from and would be careful to avoid if we ever have this type of work done again and that is to carefully exam the floors after they are sanded but before any finishing is applied. There was a large stain on a section of the livingwood floor that had been covered over by a rug and we mistakenly thought the sanding would remove it. It did not and we didn't discover this fact until after the finish was applied. But Daniel said they would make it right and they did, without charging us anything extra. Now thanks to M & M we have an outstanding new tile floor in our kitchen and laundry room, beautiful refinished floors in our bedrooms and living room and a fantastic new dining room wood floor. Our dining room and living room blend into each other and this crew did such an awesome job of blending the old and new floor that no one who has seen the floors can believe they were installed fifty years apart. I would highly recommend this company and would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

After researching M & M on Angie's List and since I was in the Burbank area, I stopped by M & M's showroom. I met Mike, described the job, and showed him some photos I had taken of the area that needed new flooring. Mike was very knowledgeable about what type of flooring was needed and set an appointment for a visit to the house. When Mike arrived, he confirmed his diagnosis of what was needed and presented an estimate. I accepted the reasonable estimate and, after a reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances, a start date was set. On the appointed date, M & M's crew (in this case, only one man was needed) arrived on schedule and started the installation. It took only a few hours to complete the job, and before I knew it, the new flooring had been installed, stained, and the work area cleaned up. It was a super job. Quick, efficient, and most of all, the new flooring matched almost perfectly the original flooring. I can tell the slight difference between the new and old flooring, but the casual observer, such as guests, would not be able to notice a difference. Bottom line is that I'm very pleased with my experience with M & M Custom Flooring. Mike is knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to deal with, and his crew did a great job. When I have another flooring job to do, I will certainly give M & M a call.

I used M & M Custom Flooring 2 years ago and it was such a pleasant experience I used them again. The company is so helpful, they are punctual and the gentlemen doing the work are polite and clean up when they have finished the job you would not know they had been. I would use them again in a minute.

I contacted this provider because I was quite disappointed and upset that the new wood floor installed by my contractor was very glossy and looked terrible in my newly constructed family room. I contacted Mike at M&M Custom Flooring after reading the excellent reviews of his services on Angie's List. He called me back promptly and scheduled a visit to look at the floor the first business day after my call. He was professional, knowledgeable and provided all the information I needed to determine which process I would select to correct the problem. Shortly after the visit I received the email he had promised setting forth the cost for two different options. Even though a complete sanding, staining and finishing was the more costly of the two options he was honest in suggesting that I would probably be happier with the less expensive option which was to remove the shine to the floor and provide an exterior coat. He also let me know that the floor probably could sustain only one sanding. So if I did go with the option of sanding and re-staining the floor, if there was a need to repair or redo the floor in the future there would be a problem. I went with the less costly option . He was able to do the work the very next day and my floor is exactly as Mike promised. The glossy floor is gone, the floor is what I envisioned and my new family room looks gorgeous. Mike at M&M Custom Flooring is as good as it possibly gets and I couldn't be happier with my floor. Thank you again Mike!!

Good workmanship, attention to detail, good customer service and timely delivery of product are just a few of the factors we looked to in selecting a company , that in our case , would require a substantial capital outlay for a new floor in our home. M &M Custom Flooring far exceeded all standarxds of performance . From our initial contact with Mike McMillan who gave us wise counsel as to product selection and his as subsequent follow up and follow through made our experience so very tolerable in what is a very disruptive process . The on-site staff of Zack and Hugo , his side kick could not have been more accomodating as we lived through almost 10 days of tearing out the old Pergo floor and replacing it with a new beautiful manufactured hardwood product. There professionalism and skill sets were remarkable. At the end of the day both my wife and I are truly pleased with this firm and at the end of the day they clearly surpass all standards of quality and professionalism.

The job went perfectly! We would definitely trust them with other floor problems or installations in the future. Mike was the person who assessed the problem and solution. His assessment was right on.

I have lived in my home for almost 23 years and I have hired professionals to complete a variety of projects. The work done by Mike and his crew is some of the best I've seen. Everyone associated with M&M is competent, professional, and courteous. My floor looks beautiful and the entire experience was hassle-free!

They did a great job! We met with Mike, the owner, who did the estimate and explained the process. He was on-time and very pleasant. We felt we knew what we were getting into, and what the process and timing would be. He explained just what they could do with respect to the existing damages, and made recommendations that were reasonable and right on. The workers did an absolutely seamless replacement of damaged boards in 3 rooms. When the stain color was not what we wanted (which was more a cherry color), we thought we might be doomed. The staining had been done in the hall and 3 bedrooms. Armando worked at it diligently (and patiently) and was able to come up with an overstain that is perfect! He was courteous (as were all of the workers), conscientious and very professional in his attitude...a very skilled craftsman who was not satisfied with results until we were as well. (In this regard, I would say that next time I would bring my own color choice...there are lots of finished board samples available at the big box stores. It is very difficult to assess what a finished product might light like from floor samples that are put down. I would also have these choices available at the time of the estimate in order to assess possibility of getting a similar color and finish.) We chose a 3 part finish, the last being Bona Traffic. It has a low sheen, and coupled with the darker stain we chose, some former roof leak and animal stains covered perfectly. I can't praise Bona Traffic enough, having used it in the past on other homes. It wears wonderfully and cleans up with a minimum of care. The workers were careful, covering fixtures and vents, and sealing off kitchens and bath. There was a minimum of dust. The cleanup was flawless. All in all, I would rate this company as being one of the most professional and competent that I have ever worked with.

I'm very happy with my new carpeting, and the whole installation process went smoothly. I decided to have tile installed in front of the sink/vanity area in the master bedroom/bath, where carpet had previously been. M & M installed the tile as well as the carpet. The tile needed to match the tile floor in the toilet/shower area and we found it had been discontinued. We couldn't find inventory in stock anywhere, but after dedicated searching, Daniel succeeded in finding a very close match that worked well. Everything looks great! I would hire this company again without any hesitation. .

First, we waited to write this review to see how the work held up as we began with old and faded looking wood. The work has held up beautifully. I first met with Mike for the initial inspection and he was great: down to earth yet professional and very knowledgeable and he explained the whole process to me, from color stain sampling to final finish. After we found our color, the work began timely, every morning led by Armando and his crew. Armando was great and always accommodating to our schedule. The work always began timely, including some weekend work. When it was finished I could not believe the transformation of these floors - it looked brand new and the color was perfect. We also did additional remodeling to the house, but the floors have had the most pleasing aesthetic impact. Also, whenever we called in before and during the work for miscellaneous questions, Casey at the office was always pleasant.

Michael arrived at our home at the time that we set-up with him. We explained our situation and what we are looking for. We gave us suggestions and recommendations.

Mike McMillan at M & M Custom Flooring did a fantastic job. The hardwood floors(living room, dining room and two hallways) are impeccable and the tile is beautiful. He and his crew worked efficiently and cleanly and made it as easy for us as possible during the work. He also had great ideas about redoing the moldings in the rooms involved and redoing the paneling in the dining room (which came out beautifully). The tile work was also very well done (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and small hallway). Mike was easy to talk to and really listened to what we wanted. I would hands down use him and his company again!

Mike had done an amazing job installing new wood floors throughout our townhouse back in 2010. We recently noticed that the wood around one of our toilets was turning dark. Mike came out, looked at the area, and after we repaired the toilet, had his assistant, Orlando, come out and replace the section of floor. He was here by 8 and out by 10. Great repair. We can't see the difference. And as before, thoroughly professional. Thanks Mike and Orlando!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with M&M. Daniel took lots of time to educate me on all my choices and to make sure I was confident in my selection. They were responsive and flexible when it came to scheduling installation. The installers were on time, did quality work and were very tidy and thorough in their clean up. The prices are excellent and they went out of their way to make sure I was 100% happy with my carpeting. I would recommend M&M without hesitation and can't imagine using any other company for future needs when it comes to flooring.

They did a fantastic job putting in the new Oak floor in an older house with a challenging uneven surface. Before beginning laying the new wood down, they spent a lot of time "floating" the surface up to level with a special subfloor compound. I was impressed with the care they gave to the details of leveling and to making adjustments in layout for the walls that weren't perfectly square and parallel to each other. They went the extra mile in explaining everything they did and doing exactly what they said. After a couple of weeks walking on the floor one very small area needed some extra attention and they were able to come by and fix that within a couple of days of my asking them. I spent a little time in their showroom to be very confident in the material choices that were available for the new floor and I was very impressed with their depth of knowledge and the array of choices they made available. And the floor is gorgeous and will far outlast our living in the house. I would highly recommend M&M Custom Flooring.

Based on the reviews on Angie's List, we called M&M right before Christmas to take a look at some distressed floors in an apartment we were considering. Mike came over; he was very knowledgable and helpful. We received the estimate the next day; the price seemed very reasonable and fair. At the same time, he made a separate estimate for the floors in the foyer and stairwell for the HOA. The apartment is in a landmarked building on the National Register of Historic Places and there were a number of questions, issues and concerns from the HOA. Throughout this process, Mike and his office were patient and helpful. There was a delay of a couple of months, before we secured the apartment and could sign the contract with Mike; again, he and his office were very patient and helpful. We were able to schedule the work immediately. Armando and his crew were on time, efficient, hard working, and very pleasant to deal with. The floor was done within the time we were told it would take. There were some areas of rotted and missing flooring which were replaced. It is impossible to detect where the boards are replaced and the floors look beautiful. They laid down several samples of floor stain on the sanded floors from which to choose- the color is very rich and matches the original historic color. After one coat there were a few small patches (3 or 4) where the finish had bubbled; Armando fixed these small areas which were less than 2" in diameter. The finish is even and very nice throughout the apartment. The experience with M&M was very pleasant; they are very professional. They do excellent work. We very highly recommend

So glad we hired Mike and team. What a beautiful, professional job they did. Mike stands behind his work and doesn't stop until its the best quality. Glad to have him on our team for the client remodel we just finished. We will definitely be using them again, great quality, very personable and lovely to work with. They are definitely one of those vendors that help make the process of transforming a clients home a joy for all involved.

Daniel and his team were very professional and did quality work. Our kitchen was a large space that sloped to one end. Daniel spent a lot of time leveling the floor before putting down the tile. He made sure that the transition from the wood in the living room to the tile in the kitchen was even and looked right. The finished product looks great. We are very happy.

The quote was around $19,000. Mike, the owner, was very professional and knew his stuff. He offered us some ideas. He was very knowledgeable. We are getting a second quote so we don't have a feel for their price. We would absolutely use them.

Mike and his team at M&M were nothing short of pleasurable to work with from start to finish. Mike first consulted me over the phone weeks before when I'd begun my search for a company to order from and install carpet in my home office. He was never in a rush and took the time to help educate me and discuss my concerns. When I came to his storefront a couple weeks later, he remembered me and our conversation, took his time to help me look thru samples indicating which would be best suited for my particular job (I have pets, there were steps, it was a full-time home office subject to rolling chairs and foot traffic, there was low clearance under doors leading outside that could be subject to doors rubbing if the pile was too long or the padding too thick, direct outside entrance meant more dirt than normal being tracked in, a stone fireplace with floor-level hearth in an arched shape, etc.) Previous owners of my property had carpet installed on top of smooth concrete floor and had removed it prior to my moving in. When they pulled up the carpet (which had been nailed down all around the perimeter) each nail had pulled up chunks of concrete leaving the floor damaged. Mike's team artfully repaired and smoothed the entire surface?including three steps at the rooms' entrance?leaving a level base for carpeting. During the remodel and before M&M came to do the prep and install, the room had been freshly painted and all woodwork including baseboards had been replaced with new and painted. Even with the mess of repairing the concrete with a wet, soupy compound, Mike's team was consciously careful to keep splattering completely off new paint. I didn't have to do ANY repair to walls or baseboards when they left and I'm obnoxiously particular about details and had expected to need to clean and repair a little after the installers left. It wasn't necessary! The installer had forgotten to dispose of my old rug and pad but Mike came back as soon as I'd called to mention it and took the old away for me. He was always prompt, always considerate and helpful and the work his team (including office staff) does is clean and efficient. It's not often you find businesses run so well. M&M Flooring gets an A+ in my book and we love our new carpet! Thanks Mike!

M&M did an EXCELLENT job. They were prompt, fast and professional. Daniel was very friendly and gave me a great price. The crew showed up on a Monday holiday. They worked quickly and finished a day ahead of schedule. They did excellent work and the floor looks beautiful.

Great from the start to the finish. Called and left a message to make an appointment for an estimate. Got an immediate callback from Daniel McDonald who arranged a convenient time. He arrived promptly at the time promised and provided valuable advice on what kind of flooring would be best for my situation. Took the required measurements and recommended we stop by the store to check out samples of various carpets. We did that and found several we liked and we took home samples to consider. Once we had narrowed it down to 3, he arranged for larger samples to help us select, and drove by the house to drop those off for us. Once we chose a carpet, he gave us an accurate estimate of cost of materials and installation. We placed a 50% deposit and he said the carpet would arrive withing 10 days, which it did. The day of the installation, he and his team showed up promptly at the promised time and proceeded to remove the old carpet and pad and install the new pad and carpet. The installation team was efficient and professional and there was no damage to our furniture or walls during the process. The carpet looks fantastic, better than we had expected. Daniel McDonald was a pleasure to work with. On time, professional, and even more a really nice person who never tried to jerk us around in any way. Accurate estimate, quality carpet and installation, professional staff . . . . what more do you want? Probably not the cheapest provider outl there, but I always believe that you get what you pay for. You want Home Depot service and treatment. . .well, go there. If you want personal service and professionalism, I recommend M & M Custom Flooring. When I need flooring of any kiind in the future, I will go to M&M first and last.

I'm thrilled with M&M from beginning to end. When Daniel came out to give me an estimate, I was thinking of sprucing up all my wood floors. Daniel very candidly told me that the 90 year old floors in the living room might not survive a sanding and refinishing and that he thought they actually looked in great condition and perhaps I was focusing on minor flaws that others would not see. Wow, did he go up in my credibility book. He gave me two options for the kitchen that clearly needed work because of scratches by the dog and other mishaps. Although Daniel said his his crew would work with me on making a sand and refinish as least disruptive as possible, I opted to go with the one day screen and coat, which Daniel recommended. Boy am I glad I did. The floor looks brand new. The price was even more reasonable than what I paid another company six years ago for the same scope of work. The crew was punctual, friendly, efficient and very tidy while doing the work.

M&M is simply the best. They refinished my dining room floor and it looks brand new. They took my floor with scratches, dull areas, marks from children's toys and made it look so nice. I can not say enough good things about M&M. Your search is over for a wood floor refinisher...M&M is the best!
