The window with the wood clad interior didn't fit tightly (there was over 1/2" gap in some spots) and the installers started to use unsightly white caulking on the inside to fill the gap and had no intention of finishing it with wood trim. I stopped them when I realized what was happening as the idea was to have all wood on the interior. The installers had never installed anything but vinyl windows before so installing this type of window was new to them. A manager was sent out and he personally cut oak trim to hide the gaps and to give the windows a finished wood appearance...but the window trim was not uniform and has always bothered me. Also the sliding window beneath the picture window initially wouldn't lock and many adjustments were made so that it would close properly. The quality was not worth the $2377 that I spent on this window. The "wood" interior was no thicker than contact paper and when I finished and stained it, the vinyl showed through in some spots.
Windor was quick to respond to the problems and did see the job through to completion, but I have never been happy with the quality of the installation of the doors or windows...or the products they installed. This was nearly six years ago, so perhaps they have improved.
All work well done

Professionalism was sincerely appreciated
companies we got an estimate from Win/Dor. The initial contact was
cheerful and helpful on the phone. Tyler, an account rep, came out and
measured and did a quote for us. He brought a sample of their product
and showed us the differences in quality between his product and another
replacement window we had previously installed. He was also very
professional and courteous. Their quote came in the middle of the
companies we talked to and although one other quote was less, the person
from that company was slow to respond with the quote and less than
professional. He also made a point of talking down the other companies.
We ordered the windows and the rest of the process went very smooth. A
small deposit was paid and then an additional payment was paid when the
"Factory Measuring" guy came. We selected a date for the install and
they showed up on time, did a professional job, including dealing with a
tricky stone surround on one window, insulated completely around the new installations and cleaned up after themselves. We are very pleased with the results and will be ordering 3 additional windows when we remodel the kitchen on the other side of the house.
Great group of people to work with at Win Dor, I highly recommend them.
The first thing that really impressed me about WinDor was their factory. Tyler took us on a tour of the place. They've got a warehouse the size of a couple football fields filled with expensive equipment for making all their own stuff. I don't mean a workbench and a couple hacksaws. I'm talking about huge pieces of equipment like you'd see on an automotive assembly line. They even inject the inert gas between window panes themselves and seal it up. They had a ton of inventory in stock and a lot of jobs finished and ready to go, so I could tell this was "going" operation.
Of course looking at a bunch of expensive equipment doesn't tell you anything about the quality of the product or final installation. But with all that capital expenditure, it was clear these guys planned to be doing this a long time, and in the same area. I figured they'd be more committed to ensuring customer satisfaction...more than a subcontractor, for example, who installs windows made by somebody else.
It took about 4-5 weeks for them to get our doors ready, which is the time they'd estimated from the start. There were no surprises. A woman from WinDor always called to remind us a day before they came out to work. We never had to call and ask where they were. Never had to listen to any "family emergency" stories. They came every time they were supposed to come, on time, without any reminders from us.
They did the whole installation in one day. The guys arrived about the time I left for work, and were done before I got home. My wife sent me a picture of the doors when the guys were finished and told me they looked great. I was happy to hear that, but I figured up close, when I got home and really looked at them, I'd see gaps, things that didn't quite line up, stripped out screw heads...you know, all the things you usually run into with this kind of thing.
But when I looked closely at this job, there was nothing like that. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding. All mitered corners aligned perfectly. There were no mis-drilled holes or stripped screw heads. The interior and exterior walls around the doors didn't have a mark on them. There was no chipped stucco or scratched paint. Our existing baseboard was trimmed so that it blended into the new door trim seamlessly. The installer even took the time to ensure the caulking bead was perfectly uniform all the way around the door trim. The doors aligned just right and rolled easily. And the installers did all this themselves, without any input from me or my wife. They even cleaned everything up. It's been a long time since I've seen this kind of workmanship.
Problems: There was really only one issue in the whole installation from start to finish. They brought the correct polished brass hardware (handles, knobs, etc.). But on the set they installed, there was a hole for an exterior lock. We hadn't ordered that and didn't want it. They were the ones who noticed this, not us. They pointed it out to us, apologized, and said they'd order the right parts and install them as soon as they came in. The door worked perfectly and looked great from inside, so it really wasn't a big deal to us. After a few days they came out and installed the correct parts without any reminders from us.
The doors look terrific and work as good as they look. They've got a solid, heavy feel to them, but you can slide them back and forth with one finger. They totally change the look of our living room. Our experience with WinDor was about as good as it gets. I rarely ever write reviews of anything, but WinDor's work was so good, I figured I ought to let other people know. Their prices are good, too. We're so happy with them we're going to hire them to put in a garden window for us later this year.
There was a glitch at the beginning, that was not the company's fault, and Phil the manager fixed it quickly and cheerfully. The way the problem was handled impressed me even more than the actual door installation.
I highly recommend Win-Dor and will use them again when I replace my bedrooms' windows.
