Esteban had two crews the first day and did most of the work. The second day one crew finishing and cleaning up. They were very professional and did a great job. The price was $6,800 which was 10% less than my other bid. The Redbud tree and all the labor was $600.

They arrived early, worked a crew the entire Day. Jerry, (Project Manager/Sales) stayed with the crew the entire time, making sure that everything was done well. Cleaned the mess that fell into the Neighbors yard. Very thorough. The original price was for more than what I paid but Jerry cut the price as they had a special running through Angie's and he wanted to make sure I didn't struggle with my Finances. I will use them again. Even my Neighbor was impressed with their work and how well they cleaned up.

They were great. True professionals and well-educated in their trade. Showed up on time, finished in under the time estimated, cleaned up the area. We will use them for future tree services.

The 5-man tree team (including Jerry Vargas the youngest son) showed up on time and fully prepared. They were extremely careful to keep the falling branches of the pepper tree out of my neighbors' yards and off the power lines the branches crossed. The bottlebrush tree had to be severely cut back because of neglect and quite a few dead branches, but the workers bore holes around the base and put in an iron/nitrogen fertilizer mixture to aid the re-growth. Not only did they complete everything detailed on the estimate, but they weeded my entire backyard and fertilized plumeria plants that were hidden underneath the weeds---AT NO EXTRA CHARGE! The Vargas team is extremely knowledgeable about the care and maintenance of trees and landscaping (they are certified arborists-you can't get better than that!) and gave me recommendations with regards to yearly fertilization and watering schedules for all the plants in my yard. This family-owned company is one of the best companies with whom I've ever worked. I highly recommend them for their knowledge, efficiency and quick turnaround. Took a crew of 4-5 guys about 7 hours to cut down a very large, mature tree on a difficult, steep slope. They did a great job controlling tree limbs so they didn't fall or do damage to our yard, fence, or neighbor's yard. Because of the slope, we didn't want them to grind down stump, which might lead to instability. So, they cut stump down to near ground level, added cuts across top and treated with Roundup. Hauled away all debris and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. Even swept entire driveway where there were fallen leaves not related to the job they did. We were originally scheduled the prior week, but got rained out. I asked for a quick reschedule, as we have a fence being built that's been on hold because of the tree. Jerry was very accommodating and made it happen. We're completely happy with the work and will hire Vargas again this fall when it's time to thin out our remaining 7 mature eucalyptus. I have a 70-ft or so deodar cedar tree in the front yard that hadn't been trimmed in 20 years. Recent Santa Ana winds had broken off three very large branches, two of which were still lodged in the tree. Luckily nothing had landed on the roof, fence, cars or anybody's head, but it was just a matter of time. I called Vargas Tree Service and set up an appointment for an estimate. Esteban Vargas (one of the founder's sons) showed up right on time, assessed the tree, explained clearly what needed to be done and how his crew would do it, preserving shade and aesthetics and without damage to the tree. He gave us an reasonable estimate with a discount for Angie's List and for paying cash. The only slight difficulty was setting a date for the work as they are so busy, but the appointment was made for Monday, 2/22 between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. Esteban and his 5 man crew showed up exactly on time (7:45) and went right to work. First, though, they very considerately knocked on my neighbor's door to let him know they'd be trimming the tree so he could move his car. Everyone knew his job and they worked as an efficient team. Two men used ropes (not spiked shoes) to climb the tree, used ropes to lower the branches rather then letting them fall, and took care to protect the fence, plants and flower pots. They worked hard from 8 AM - 3 PM with a short lunch and in that time shaped the tree and reduced its bulk by about half and amassed a pile of limbs some 10 ft x 3 ft and 3 ft high. When they finished trimming, another few men showed up with a wood chipper and disposed of all the branches. They completely cleaned the yard and the driveway and got up on the roof to blow off anything that had fallen there. My husband, who had been home all day, confirmed their skill and professionalism. When I got home from work, it looked as if no one had ever been in the yard; there was not a single branch left on the ground. The tree looks great and I'm no longer worried about what could happen in the next big windstorm. The price ($1600) for five workers for seven hours was reasonable and I feel it was a good investment. I have many more trees and I will definitely use Vargas again. Everything they promised, they delivered. I'm extremely happy with their service.

Came out on time and did a great job on the two trees that hadn't been trimmed in a long time. Removed a tree that was dying and did an excellent job cleaning up.

I contacted them and Esteban came out and gave me a quotation for the job. He was very thorough, explained the techniques for this particular tree and even commented on the overall health of the tree. Very knowledgeable and professional. After a week passed, I decided to call and follow up to see when they were actually going to do the job. That is the only reason for the B in responsiveness. They gave me the date and came on time and did the work very quickly and neatly. I am extremely happy with the result! The tree is beautiful and they trimmed it without taking too many of the branches out so it looks very natural. They also were very honest in saying that I could go another 4 years until the next trim. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering this service.

Everything was on time or better, from arrival of estimator through arrival of working crew through completion of job. Took care of every detail, from placing signs in street alerting drivers of work ahead, to positioning of their vehicles (which included crane) for least inconvenience for both us and our neighbors. Quality of job was excellent, and they took care of every aspect of cleaning up and removing all debris from premises. If you hadn't known those two enormous trees had been there earlier, you wouldn't guess that that the corner they'd sat on had been touched. The whole crew and their supervisor made everything go as smoothly and successfully as possible. Highly, highly recommend them.

I had a very tall lombardi poplar that was between 85-100 ft.tall and a shorter one that had large limbs growing between the phone and cable lines. They were both in my back yard and next to my neighbor's garage. It was a difficult and laborious removal as all the cut wood had to be carried to the front of the house to the wood chipper. It was also a very hot and humid day in the mid to high 90's. Esteban and the Vargas tree crew showed up on time in the early morning and worked steadily and very hard in the hot weather with only a lunch break. The expertise and precision with which they worked together was just amazing. I was over an 8 hr. job and Esteban or his brother were present and answered any questions I had and were so nice. Although the workers knew exactly what to to without any oversight or direction. The tree stumps were ground down after the trees were removed and you can't even tell big tree trunks were there. They even trimmed a small fig tree a little for me complimentarily. They put things back for me and left the yard very clean and nice. I would highly recommend them to anyone and their fee for the work they did was more than fair.

These guys are absolute pros! They expertly removed two very tall (45-50' tall) palm trees from our highly landscaped back yard. They were easy to communicate with, (in english) and thorough with the clean up. Not a single plant or sprinkler was damaged!!! This is a very well run family business with prompt service and expert crews! I highly recommend Vargas and would use them again! Thanks for a great job!

Esteban, from Vargas Tree Service, arrived on time to give us an estimate to remove the trees. He called back later and we set up a date for the work to be done. His crew arrived on time and removed the trees within 3 hours. They did a great job, especially the clean up. We are very pleased with the work and will definitely hire them again.

Jerry Vargus informed me that he had many jobs working for associations but he would fit my job in. I should have taken this as as sign to call another contractor. After waiting a couple of weeks for Jerry to get back to me, I called to determine if Vargas was going to be able to do my job or not. Jerry told me he would pull his crew off a big job later in the week to do my job. The day Jerry picked was not ideal for my schedule because I needed to be at work, but I was anxious to get the job done because my fruit trees were beginning to bloom. I arranged for another family member to be home when the crew arrived and pay them. I presumed given the reviews on Angie's list, that I would not need to miss work to personally supervise yard work. Mistake #2. When I arrived home, I discovered my rose bushes had been cut to the crowns. BUTCHERED! Whoever cut my rose bushes knew ZERO about roses or pruning them, Also, the stump to one of the trees that was supposed to be remove did not get removed. I complained to my family member who was home at the time of the job and paid for paid for the work. My family member told me that Jerry did not show up to introduce himself, or supervise his crew. I was told only an unsupervised crew arrived to do my job. It is now 3.5 months later. One of the rose bushes Vargas "pruned" has now died from the shock of the butchering. Two others are still in struggling in shock. The three remaining rose bushes are now stumps but at least have foliage and flowers. Vargas may know about trees but do not let them near your rose bushes! Also, be prepared to supervise their work to make sure work gets done completely and correctly.

Vargas Tree Service did an absolutely incredible job. We couldn't be happier! The price was higher than others, but well worth it. When Esteban came out for the initial estimate, we were impressed by the breadth of his knowledge. For example, he pointed out that someone earlier had ascended the palm using spikes on their shoes. He told us why this is harmful to the tree and assured us that his company never uses spikes. He also told us, for future reference, that when our oak tree needs to be trimmed (not very often), the tools used should be sterilized first. He showed us dead knobs on the Tipuana trees (left there by previous trimmers) that could attract termites, and recommended that they be removed. And he pointed out how to treat the hedge so that it would fill in in the center, to afford more privacy from the neighbors. The estimate from Vargas came back quite a bit higher than others, but we were so impressed with Esteban, we wanted to use Vargas anyway. When we raised our concerns about the price, Esteban made some adjustments and, in the end, the price was very fair. We'd rather pay a bit more to have the work done correctly. On the day of service, the crew arrived and finished on time, and Esteban was there to supervise. The crew was extremely professional -- they were dressed nicely, they didn't shout or play loud music, and they used safety equipment (harnesses, hard hats, etc.). They left the yard cleaner than when they arrived and, in fact, removed a couple of dead shrubs at no cost while they were at it! The trees and hedge have never looked nicer or healthier. We plan to use them going forward as our regular tree service and are so glad we found them! We give them our highest recommendation.

I have used Vargas Tree Service for years and wouldn't think of using anyone else. They are professional, knowledgeable and amazingly good at their cleanup. I don't like cutting down trees, but sometimes really old, large ones cause problems that can't be overcome. From the first, Vargas impressed me with their suggestions and knowledge. They will actually tell you to wait to trim trees until the optimum time of year for the tree's health, because they are arborists and not just tree trimmers. Not a usual thing to come across. Like I said, they want happy customers (and trees) and that comes first. This time I had a huge, 100+ year old dragon tree in my front yard that was lifting the driveway and sidewalk, two large rubber trees on the side of the house and an enormous, ugly yucca in my front yard. So they came out, took out the dragon tree, yucca and one of the rubber trees, ground the stumps to below ground level (not something that other places do automatically), cut off an arm of an old bottle brush tree for me. While here, they ground another stump that was from a tree they didn't cut, cleaned out a real mess of bushes between my and my new neighbor's yards, cleaned up everything and left it all practically pristine. They were scheduled to come between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., but showed up at 9:30, which was great! They worked until almost 3:00 p.m. taking down those trees, the dragon tree being the monster that it was, huge, heavy and not one that could be chipped up because of the high water content. They have very nice equipment and, when they can, chip the trees into mulch, which I really like. These are very nice people that you can definitely trust to work efficiently and safely and clean up extremely well.

They were amazing, when they came by for the estimate the representative was very knowledgeable about trees. We contacted them to remove 3 old trees that we had on our back slope, when he arrived to give us the quote he gave us recommendations on what we can to to revitalize our existing trees and gave us good information on how to bring our avocado trees back to a healthy state and even included "dead wooding" the tree in the service for no additional charge. They came in and removed the tree and trimmed the dying avocado tree that we were keeping in an afternoon and removed a rose bush that we had and were going to dig up ourselves. The area was left in great condition, we couldn't tell there had ever been any trees in that area. The workers were very professional and nice to deal with and exceed our expectations as far as time it would take and the condition in which our slope was left.

I needed a number of trees in my backyard cut back and contacted Vargas Tree Service for an estimate. Jerry Vargas returned my call and scheduled a date for an estimate. He arrived on time and after surveying what I wanted done gave an estimate. I mentioned my next door neighbor also needed some trees in her backyard trimmed back and Jerry gave her an estimate and arranged to do both jobs on the same day. On the day scheduled he and his crew arrived on time and after putting up protective sheets on my garage and gazebo got started. They worked all day on my trimming my trees and bushes and mine neighbors trees. When they finished they cleaned up everything and even raked the leaves on my front yard. Jerry and I did a walkthrough and everything he committed to on the invoice was done. I was totally satisfied and impressed with the professionalism he and his crew displayed and will definitely call them again if needed and recommend their services.

Esteban and his crew did a great job. All works was performed as quoted and they left the yard cleaner than when they arrived.

Very responsive; showed up on time and did great job of trimming trees

They did excellent work, were very knowledgeable and I feel I got a fair pricing on the work done. I was also able to get a lot of advice and various questions answered about tree care for items unrelated to the scope of work so I was very appreciative of that. I would definitely recommend them, but let people know that the one major downside is that it was very difficult to schedule them to come out for the work. There was some back and forth phone tag and follow up calls on my behalf to where I almost gave up trying to have them come out, but since they got good reviews on Angie's List I was persistent and it eventually all worked out. It was frustrating leaving voice mails and there being a 50/50 chance of not getting a call back, but overall once over that initial hurdle they did great work.

Two hours late for a scheduled appointments appointment. Used before and AAA service and price this time the opposite.

They came out quickly and on-time for the estimate. They were able to find a service time soon that fit my schedule. They showed up on-time and did a great job. Then they cleaned everything up nicely when they left. I would definitely use them again.

They did a tremendous job. They were very professional and know their business, providing me with everything I needed to know about my tree, including properly identifying it, which no other tree service did. They were punctual and did everything they had promised and even trimmed back one large root that was interfering with my driveway. I asked if they could leave me some wood for my outdoor chiminea, and they cut it to size and stacked it for me at no extra charge. They left my yard cleaner then when they arrived and the tree looks great. I highly recommend Vargas, and will definitely use them again.

They did a GREAT job on a difficult task. Very professional. Prompt. Polite. Communicated well. Even used a laser pointer to point at a limb or two, and discuss with me how I'd like to approach the final shape of the tree. My flowers were protected in place by covering them with plywood leaned against the wall. (A different contractor doing carpentry on the other side of the yard trampled all over my flowers.) I was very happy with Vargas Tree Service from beginning to end, and will definitely use them again.
