They arrived on time, were very careful to cover anything that could be damaged, worked carefully, cleaned up everything completely leaving virtually no trace behind, except a perfectly trimmed tree. These guys really know their stuff. It's not your average un-insured guy who knows how to work a chain saw but not much about trees. The price is high, but you definitely get what you pay for from them. The tree is healthier, looks far better, no longer is a danger to the electric lines or the house. I will continue to use them for the tree maintenance work around our home.

+ -1 moreQuite satisfied. One of the sons who now own it (father is semi-retired) came out and did the estimate the week before and gave me an estimate of $1200. I then told him that another service on Angie's list estimated $1000 (this is true). He then said he'd do it for $900. (BTW, 2 other services on Angie's List just flat-out didn't show up. One was a no-show and the other made an excuse about a "family emergency" and wanted to re-schedule. Sorry, no thanks I said.) They called a couple days later to schedule the service date the following week. Vargas's guys showed up on-time at 7:15 a.m. with a full-crew and the son who gave the estimate was there too. The guys were all in uniform and the right gear. They did not have metal cleats on their shoes to avoid damage to the trees which was nice. They got the job done on time as promised (less than 4 hours), with no damage and no mistakes and cleaned up every leaf. They got the apricot tree out quickly and easily. Then he laid out a tarp and mixed the citrus dirt, toner and fertilizer I had bought in order to prep the hole for the lime tree. They put the tree in straight and facing the right direction and backfilled with the prepared soil as requested. The Vargas father even showed up too and chipped in planting the tree. Vargas did a solid job as promised.
Description of Work: Trimmed two side-by-side 50 foot eucalyptus trees. Removed one 12 foot apricot tree. Planted one 3 foot lime tree.

+ -1 moreThey showed up when they said they would to bid the job. They gave me advice on the best time for the pruning. We scheduled the job and they showed up at the agreed upon time and did the job, quickly, safely and cleanly. I paid them by check at the completion of worked and was completely satisfied.
Description of Work: Had four tall (~40 feet) Canary Island Pine tress pruned. One with limbs over the house was partially pruned in September of 2011 to remove risk of damage during high winds. The remainder of the pruning was left until the winter as that is a better time of year to prune. I was completely satisfied with their work. They did a good job quickly with complete cleanup and no convenience to me. There cost was significantly less than the other bid I had.

+ 0 moreWe are extremely pleased with how the trees turned out. Within two weeks, the trees had filled out and the shapes were perfecdt. It has been several months now, and the trees have maintained their shapes.
Description of Work: Its a family-owned business, and the son is taking over. He is studying arbology in college. He has a real artistic eye, and is very knowledgeable about the trees and what shaping and cutting can and cannot be done without harm to the trees. They gave me what I considered tobe a fair bid for trimming and shaping six trees in my front and back yards, including one tree which overhangs the pool. They did all the work with minimal damage to the flowers and shrubs. They were able to schedule the work within a week, and appeared promptly as scheduled. They did all the work within the 4 hour estimate, and cleaned up beautifully.

+ 0 moreThie bid was a bit lower than the other I received, and in the ballpark of what I usually pay. It's a family operations with the sons actively involved in the business their father started. They were punctual, professional, knowledgable about trees and how to properly trim them, and they did an excellent job. Everything was cleaned up and hauled away. I will definitely hire them again. I have lived in this home for 25 years and have been searching for a new tree trimming service since my regular tree trimmer went commercial about 10 years ago.
Description of Work: I hired Vargas for the first time to do my annual tree trimming, front and back. I have a corner lot with at least 4 very large trees and tall shrubs around all fence areas. I had them do full trimming and clean-up.

+ -1 moreOur neighbor owns a huge (45+feet high) very old California Pepper tree. It is beautiful, but over the years, several huge limbs (1 to 2' diameters) have grown over our roof and have not been trimmed on regular basis. Consequently one of the limbs (2' diameter) cracked in half and, fortunately, there were enough small limbs on it to support it so that it did not come through the roof or injure anyone. Gilbert Vargas who is a certified Arborist came out and gave us an estimate to trim our side of the tree and the neighbor's side. He spent time discussing how to trim the tree with us. He was the only one out of the three estimates we received, who took the time to explain what he would do and why. His brother Gerry who is also was extremely knowledgeable, came out with the crew and performed the work . He worked with the neighbor to find out exactly what her expectations were and with us to trim the tree safely away from the house without causing harm to the tree. He was in contact with Gilbert throughout the day and worked very hard resolving problems (several more huge branches were found to be cracked). They cleaned out all the dead wood, limbs that were cracked, and thinned it out to prevent anymore cracks in the limbs. They did an absolutely stellar job trimming the tree and cleaned up everywhere leaving both of our yards pristine. We have had this tree trimmed two times in the last twenty years by other companies and their services could not even come close to the service and professionalism provided by Vargas Tree Service.
Description of Work: Gave estimate and performed heavy tree trimming on a 50+ year old California Pepper Tree.

+ -1 moreThe entire experience with Vargas Tree Service was fantastic. They came out and gave a free estimate and walked through my yard and explained all the work they would do. I felt like they really knew their business, and they ended up being the least expensive of all the bids I received. I scheduled the work for two weeks later and they were able to work around my schedule. Their crew showed up exactly on time and went to work right away. They had a crew of 6 guys and worked quickly to finish the work. They were especially careful about trimmings dropping into my neighbor's yard, and even hopped the fence to retrieve some branches. They cleaned up after themselves and hauled everything away, including months worth of leaves that had fallen around the trees. They even removed two other bushes that weren't part of the original scope for no additional charge. The trees and bushes look great and I wouldn't hesitate to use Vargas again.
Description of Work: Trim three large ficus trees, remove another ficus tree and grind stump, height reduction of a row of overgrown bushes.

+ -1 moreThis has been a very satisfying experience. Date and time for initial consultation and estimate was set during the first phone call to Vargas. Estaban arrived exactly when expected. He was knowledgeable and took time to answer questions and make suggestions. The work was done only two days later. The work crew of four arrived right on time and went to work. The palm to be removed was located in a very tight space and the crew removed it in sections to ensure that no damage was done to the house, roof or fencing. The other trees are located at the back of the property and were planted to provide privacy. Estaban directed his crew to correct problems caused by the original planting (not done by Vargas) and trim the trees in such a way that the privacy was not lost and will in fact be enhanced as they grow. The rose bush has been in the yard for many years, and while they removed much more than they left, it looks better today than it has in a long long time. I am very pleased with the work that was done. The whole crew was professional, knew just what to do, and cleaned up everything before they left. In the end they actually did more than I had expected - even removing a small tree branch that had been hanging from overhead power lines since older, larger trees were removed about two years ago. That branch had bothered me for that whole time, but I did not mention this to the Vargas crew. They just saw a problem and fixed it - no additional charge. Same with the restaking of most of the trees - not in original estimate, but was needed and was done at no additional charge. I would highly recommend Vargas Tree Service for any landscaping needs.

Description of Work: My husband and I were looking for a Tree Trimming service to cut back a seriously overgrown Potato Bush, thin our beautiful Birch tree and thin/trim our dwarf naval orange tree. The orange tree in particular was the most worrisome, because this tree is a favorite and makes the most incredible and bountiful fruit every year! After contacting 4 different companies, I knew that I'd be most comfortable with Vargas. Jerry came out to give us an estimate and he was prompt, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. In addition to the trimming work, I had questions regarding a particular pest we have on our orange tree and he was the only one of the four services that knew anything about it. While Jerry did not have the full answer, he was familiar with it and he knew that the arborist at Vargas would have answers and suggestions. The only catch in the decision making was that Vargas was double the cost of all the others. I called and spoke with Jerry in the hopes he'd be willing to negotiate a lesser rate that was acceptable, and he was. We booked them to come out within the week and Gilbert arrived with his crew, on time, courteous clean and professional. They proceeded to trim and thin, making several suggestions/recommendations about best options. When they were done they cleaned everything up, even going into the neighbors yard to clear up what had fallen over the wall during the work! They were completely done in about 90 minutes. All in all the work was awesome and we are completely satisfied. Even though we still paid more than the other estimates, I am 100% confident we got work worth the money spent. If we had just wanted to tear trees out, maybe the lesser amount would have made sense. But since we wanted some expertise and finesse applied to the work, Vargas made the most sense and they came through as expected. We would absolutely use them again.

+ -1 moreI contacted Vargas Tree Service a week and a half prior to the job. They came out to do an estimate two days later. The representative that came out was prompt and polite. He gave an estimate in line with the other estimate I received, so I decided to use them because they are certified arborists (check certifications at http://www.isa-arbor.com/faca/findArborist.aspx). I called a day later to arrange a work day, but was told the estimator would call me back to arrange an appointment. I never received a call back. I called the company at the main number again and was prompted to leave a message, and waited another day and finally got a call back from a representative at the company. She ensured me that the estimator would call me back by the end of the day and she would call me back by 4 pm to ensure that happened. I didn't get a call from either party. Two days later the female representative that answers the main number called me to arrange a work date. On the work day, the crew arrived on time and started their work promptly. They were quick (finished in 3.5 hours), used appropriate work safety measures, and cleaned up all areas worked to satisfaction. The tree that was trimmed looks good (unlike my neighbors trees who were hacked up by some other tree trimmers), and I am happy with the tree removal. Overall, in terms of work done and pricing, I am satisfied. They get a B rating due to the run around with phone calls. I almost gave up on them and went with another company. Although, I am expressing a poor outlook regarding to the phone call situation, I would highly recommend this company.

+ -1 moreThis is the best tree service we have ever had in the twenty plus years we have lived in our home! From start to finish, they were friendly, professional, and took pride in their work. The crew was closely supervised the entire time and our wishes were their top priority. They took the time to do the job exactly as we wanted. The supervisor was extremely knowledgeable and we are so glad we took the advice he gave us! When the job was done, our front and back yards looked perfect! They spent a lot of time cleaning up and our yard was immaculate when the job was done. This will be the only tree service we will call on from now on!

Description of Work: The removal of overgrown palm trees and other plants that were overgrown and impacting the surface of our yard. We had a very large palm tree that was leaning against our from door and was a source for rodent to get into our attic so we need it to be removed as quickly as possible. They cut down the large palm tree, hauled away all the trash and debris and clean up after themselves. We are satisfy with the service that we have received fro this vendor.

We could've used a less expensive service but were afraid others would damage underground gas lines and such. But the guys at Vargas Tree Service used the best equipments in avoiding all that. Overall, these guys were excellent.
