APlus Interior Design & Remodeling

The kitchen is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. The quality is excellent. My main problem with A plus was that they did not seem organized. Their project management was faulty. Often, I didn't know if anything would have gotten done if I didn't call them and ask what's next.

All the workers were excellent. Sometimes, they were late or didn't show up when I expected, but I think that was primarily due to the project management - people would get pulled at the last minute to do some other job. I think they had too many balls in the air.

FYI - the floors and painting were done by another contractor of my choosing. That was primarily because I wanted bamboo floors to match what had been installed in the rest of the house. I chose and purchased my own appliances, sink fixtures, fan, garbage disposal, and A Plus installed them. They also hung my TV for me.

All in all, the process was stressful, but I did get a beautiful kitchen out of it. So, knowing what I know, I think I would still choose A Plus.

We reached out to A Plus and had a wonderful experience. We
are first time homeowners, a young family of soon to be 7! We wanted to redo
our kitchen cabinets, the flooring of the entire first level of the home,
remodel the fireplace area as well as the master bathroom. We called and set an
appointment for an initial consultation and had no problem setting something up
that worked for our schedule. Joe came to our house to talk about the job. He
was very pleasant and made us feel confident that A Plus does a great job, and
is a well established company with a good history. He took incredibly detailed
notes as well as measurements and a short video of our home. He did not give us
an estimate, rather we set an appointment to tour the factory and make some
preliminary design choices. They were able to accommodate our schedule and book
us on a Saturday. This practice we felt very honest, because anyone can give a
quote but having made some actual selection would make the quote much more
accurate. Heather was our guide and she did a great job showing us around and
answering our questions. The quality of their custom cabinets is evident!
Heather showed us various options for flooring, hardware, and of course the
cabinets. They have a great selection of things to choose from for every style.
Lastly, we spent some time with Alex, the owner. He is very personable and very
intuitive. He understood our style and was immediately able to lay out a
cabinet, countertop, flooring combo that we loved! He spent another hour
reviewing the scope of work and cost details with us. We took the information
home with us and Alex respected the fact that this was a big decision for us.
He even came over the following Wednesday, to see our home. By that time, it
was obvious to us that such a large project would be more than our family could
afford to do. Alex spent an hour with us, giving us some ideas about what the
best value changes would be for our home. Alex agreed all of that work for the
cost would not be in the best interest of our family. Yet he stayed and gave us
advice and his time at no cost because he is an honest businessman. We would
recommend A Plus to all of our friends and family. 
 

In 2005 Aplus redesigned and installed a new kitchen for me and I am very happy with the overall process and the results.  After almost 10 years the finish was a little worn in a few places from exposure to water.  Even though the warranty period was expired, aPlus worked with me to arrange for retouching the finish at no cost to me!  They look like new and I am extremely satisfied with the results.

Since we had a strict timeframe, we made sure that we did everything we could on our end. We had all our appliances at our home before the job started. We made sure we gave Nestor prompt feedback if we wanted something adjusted. Our only complaint would be that often the workers would not come the day they were assigned, but the following day. That said, the job was ultimately done on time, so we are pleased.

They have high quality products but they got a long time from what they said. They did a really nice job.

All the employees at A Plus were very friendly and absolutely professional. Although, while speaking with the owner he asked me where did I buy the jewelry I was wearing. Also, he asked me what I did for a living (which I didn't disclose). I haven't heard a word since the owner did the walk through re: the FULL remodel of my kitchen and two bathrooms. It' been 17 days.  I have chosen not to work with this company. 

We joined Angie's List specifically for a kitchen remodel, which was our first experience with home improvement and contractors. We have a detached condo built in 1973 that had not been upgraded. The kitchen was not conducive to more than one person working at a time. We found A-Plus on Angie's after several months of auditioning various firms. Most companies offered what we found to be garish looking cabinets that all looked the same. We walked into A-Plus and within five minutes of talking to the owner Alex had options that we liked. A-Plus custom builds their cabinets from CAD drawing from in house designers. Alex showed us the factory and both listened and gently pushed back against our inexperience. The cabinets we got are slab faced with Sophia surfaces. Sophia is a plasticized wood veneer from Italy that is durable and elegant. Our budget was limited and A-Plus was great about working with what we had in terms of existing flooring and appliances. We went with a nontraditional backsplash tile that is unlike the busy mosaics in vogue right now. The look is very clean over all. A-Plus design consultant Kate was particularly helpful with colors and for her suggestion to center the stove so that there is more room to work. Everyone at A-Plus was great, Bob their operations manager, Adrian the designer, Bruno their tile man, Mark who did our replacement window, Patrick the plumber, Alex the electrician, Oscar who installed the cabinets and built a nice tray divider for us, and Leo our project manager. Total cost was about 26k and took six weeks, both of which they estimated up front. The process was nerve racking because of our lack of experience and having such a small place. A-Plus did a good job of helping us to know what to expect. There were two glitches. One was that the stove hood vent needed to be moved but we did not catch that until after painting and literally the day before the cabinets were to be installed. Leo got Trevor out right away so that we stayed on schedule. Second, the backsplash tile we picked out was unavailable so we had to make a quick second choice. That was for the best because the cabinets were in so we had a better sense of the color context. The lessons we learned as first timers are to pay attention and be flexible. A-Plus is very busy, so it fell to us to provide feedback and coordination. There are many moving parts on even a small project like this. They provided a lock box so that people could get in, but our presence was often required for the many small decisions along the way. In the end we would strongly recommend A-Plus, especially for their custom cabinetry work. In fact we have initiated a second project with them to do our bathroom and fireplace. Secondly, we can attest that Angie's List works. Thank you to the people who reviewed A-Plus. Your honest assessments guided us to a firm that aligned with our sensibilities and needs. We were very impressed the the professionalism of A Plus staff and the process for evaluation and planning of our kitchen remodel.  Our first meeting involved detailed measurements of our kitchen and inital discussion of our remodeling plans.  At the end of our first meeting, their representative Casey had created a detailed drowning of our current kitchen layout as well as our initial concept.  It was very impressive that they provide this detailed level drawings and plans at an initial meeting.  At our second meeting at the factory, we were very impressed with the tour of the facilities and the equipment used to build kitchen cabinets, particularly the drying ovens and dedicated painting area.  We also got to see some cabinets in production and were very impressed with the quality of the woodwork and that the cabinets were made from thick lumber.  We were also impressed with the large variety of materials from which to choose for our kitchen remodel.  On our third meeting with Alex, we were very impressed with his ideas to enhance our early design.

Installer arrived on time to install the windows but one of the windows was damaged which I believe should have been inspected before the install. A job that should have taken one day took over a month by the time the job was completed. It was frustrating trying to get them to come to install that last window during my day off during the weekday. Besides that, the installers did a great job.

The reporesentative did not listen to my needs.  He only wanted to sell me on and educate me about a certain brand of windows.  he completely blew me off on giving me a price or any detail about my intended bathroom remodel.

Overall we're extremely happy with the project and we're very happy how everything turned out.  since this was a large remodel project and needed major structural changes as well construction details it definitely took longer than a typical project. but thanks to their team of project management & beautiful design & details that they put in.  Everything just came out amazing.  They didn't nickel dime us and the price that Alex gave us was the price we ended up paying.  We had few upgrades here and there which we gladly paid for but over all we're very happy with APlus and we would recommend them to any of our friends and relatives.  One of the great part of APlus approach is that it's one stop shop and they have a team of all trades on their staff, therefore we didn't need to worry about looking for a plumber or electrician or a drywaller.  Our project manager coordinated everything and made sure everyone showed up on time and took care of whatever needed to be done.  we're definitely happy how everything turned out.

I went to their showroom to get an estimate on modular cabinets for an upcoming bathroom remodel. 
Initially, a pleasant person greeted me but was new and couldn't give any estimates. She introduced me to a designer who said that custom was a better way to go because I would be able to get drawers and cabinets in the sizes I wanted them.  I explained that the vanities would be standard size so I was planning to save money on them by using modular ones while spending more on a custom shower. 
At this point, she pulled over the shower guy. I explained the type of shower base (low profile) that I was looking for, and he said that he had made one for another customer. When I asked him how much the base would cost, he gave me a quote to demo my old shower and build a new one. The quote was $7,500. I hadn't given him the dimensions of my shower and was surprised that he could come up with a quote. A different contractor who had come to my house and taken measurements quoted me $8,500 for the whole bathroom (shower, vanity, floors, faucet, showerhead, painting...basically everything).  I left a bit disappointed that I didn't have any ballpark figures for modular vanities nor for a shower base.
Not wanting to give up on my low profile shower base, I emailed this provider again requesting an estimate for the shower base and gave him dimensions. At the same time, I emailed two other providers found on Angies List. The other two got back to me within 24 hours. It's been over a week, and I still haven't heard back from A Plus Kitchen and Bath. I can't do business with someone who doesn't respond to requests for estimates.

They were very professional, attentive, followed up with us consistently and the facility/factory was incredible.  I would recommend them in a second for the next project when it is time!!!!

It was over a year ago, so the details are a little fuzzy.  Our biggest problem with them was communication.  We dealt with too many of their people, and it often seemed like they never talked to each other.  Sometimes their only communication with each other was through us.  Internal miscommunications and lack of control ultimately caused some big problems.  The biggest was delivery and installation of the wrong counter top.  We had selected on edge and they delivered something else.  To their credit, they did offer to install the right one or give us a credit to keep the other one.  It was clearly not our first choice (although they tried to tell us that it was better than the one we picked out; don't question the customer's taste), but we did not want more delays.  On top of installing the wrong counter top, the installation was extremely sloppy.  When you ran your hand over it, you could feel spots of excess adhesive all over.  The seams were also bad.  Then, to top it all off, their fabricators had made a gouge in the material right in the middle.  Instead of doing it right, they did a sloppy job of trying to hide it and did not say a word.  The problem was very obvious and we finally had to go to the manufacturer for help.  We had other instances of problems that they offered to fix but that would only have added a lot of time to a project that already ran way over estimates.  The other big one was the tray ceiling.  We had asked for a rounded edge but they put in a hard edge.  In general, the kitchen looks nice, but it was very painful getting there.  Still, to this day, we look at the things they did wrong and it spoils the enjoyment of the kitchen for us.

APlus did a complete remodel of our house and they did an excellent job exceeding our expectations.

To name few the project included redesign and remodeling of the kitchen,  rearrangement and replacement of all windows and sliding doors, remodeling of fire place, new design of garage cabinets and full remodeling of master and kids bathrooms. All of this was completed in 6 weeks.

The kitchen design and the quality of cabinets are second to none. We were very impressed with the quality of work performed by APlus, their attention to detail and looking at the project with an attitude of achieving perfection. Ability to come up with an excellent design within our budget and within our time frame separates them from other contractors we interviewed.  They have a very well-run system, where a Project Manager is assigned to overlook the project. He could be reached at any time to address any of our concerns, suggestions and make sure that the project was executed as planned. Easy access to their designers,  their expertise and suggestions helped us tremendously to achieve what we wanted, within our budget and time frame.

Everything went great, they took care of my cabinets and even after 14 years I still love my kitchen.

The waiting period was longer than we were told at the beginning but at the end the kitchen looks wonderful so it was worth the wait. The reface, doors and cabinets are built, stained and hand finished by A+. They took care of everything from demolition to appliance installation.

I did use A Plus Kitchen & Bath / A Plus Window & Door and it was good.  They completed a project for us about two months ago.  They charged us between the initial budget and the one we ended up with it was more than doubled.  It was on the high side.  It was a very big company so there are different people you have to work with.  Some people I didn't' care for but for the most part I do like the company.  The responsiveness, kind of like not really taking the time to understand what is going on.  They say yes, yes and not really taking with.  It's like certain part I really like about the company and other parts I really don't care for.  It was a mixed review.

There was no job done.

Spending tens of thousands of dollars on a kitchen remodel is not something you take lightly, and I am one to do lots of research and price comparison, so I spent lots of time choosing the right contractor.  We knew we were doing a full kitchen remodel, in other words, ripping everything out (including windows and possibly walls) and getting everything brand new.  Kitchen remodel contractors are a dime a dozen in Orange County, so I visited the major players as well as a mom and pop shop, and had them come out to measure and present their proposals.
Don't be put off by the appearance of their showroom.  It's not as glitzy as their competitors, but once you take the factory tour and see how they build and stain their own cabinets, you'll feel better. Their competitors either sell you prefabricated cabinets like you get at Home Depot or only build their own doors and drawers - A Plus does it all in house to your exact specifications and measurements.
Our initial consultation with Alex (the owner and principal designer) was a little confusing since most other contractors go over every little detail and feature with you and then quickly come up with a dollar amount like $46,219.33 and you're not exactly sure if they just estimated some random number and added $10,000 to cover all their bases.  Alex's proposal was that A Plus would do everything he discussed, including all the features and add-ons we desired for a flat dollar amount.  They do not nickel and dime over little options like which wood species or door handles we wanted, soft close this or that, or little odds and ends that quickly add up.  While this approach was disconcerting at first, it was the way to go.  Since he has a background in design, he suggested removing a wall and raising a ceiling soffit that we had not considered, which really opened up our kitchen and gets us the most compliments.  He also told me I needed large heavy duty pots and pans drawers, when I was convinced I wanted standard doors.  He was right.  Rely on his design expertise!  A Plus bid might not be the cheapest in town, but its not the most expensive either, and you certainly get what you paid for and I definitely feel like I received good value.  One area where they can improve is their project management/scheduling and the time it takes to complete a major remodel.  The project was originally estimated to last about three months and ended up being closer to six before every last detail was completed.
Everyone we came in contact who works for A Plus was friendly, accommodating, professional, and easy to work with.  I recommend A Plus to anyone planning a kitchen remodel and will definitely call them when I finally get around to replacing the rest of my windows.

Overall experience was great, since it was the whole house it took about 4-5 months after we finalized our selection.  There were some delays in between but that's just because we changed our mind about certain cabinet colors and flooring so we had to wait for it to be done again.  They were very understanding and worked around our schedule and timetable to make sure we get our house done.  We couldn't be happier with the final project. Our bathrooms look amazing and our kitchen is just beautiful; we get compliments all the time when the guests are over.  We definitely recommend APlus.

The time line for demo and construction went just like I was promised at the first meeting.  Communication was paramount.
