Superbly! From diagnosis to analysis to alternatives to installation, the whole process went smoothly. All of the workers were highly skilled and knew what they were doing. A defective thermostat was installed, and they came about 10 pm that evening to replace the defective thermostat.

We started by researching what to look for in an AC contractor and got a basic idea of what kind of replacement system we needed. We learned a contractor should do what is called a Manual J test. Because systems have become so much more efficient, we would not necessarily need the same size system we were replacing. Getting the size right is important because systems that are too small or too big are less efficient, but the only way to know for sure what size system is needed is to run the Manual J. We also knew it would be best if the placement of the system could be changed for better efficiency and longevity of the system. Besides Hamstra, we chose two other highly rated contractors on Angie's List and Yelp. The salesperson from Hamstra was the only one to run the Manual J. He went into our crawl space, on our roof to check out the system, measured the dimensions our house, asked lots of questions about what we needed and wanted. Because we have solar, he immediately told us we do not need the most efficient system because it would never pay for itself. He immediately knocked 5% off the cost when I mentioned in passing that we would pay in cash (check) instead of financing or credit card. In all he spent an hour and a half running the test, told us we could go from our current 5 ton system to a 4 ton and gave us a bid before he left. The salespeople from the other two companies went on the roof to look at the system, but that was it. They did not run the manual J, they didn't ask many questions and didn't spend much time looking around our house. They insisted we needed the same size system and its current placement was fine. One salesperson was here for approximately 30 minutes but spent most of time talking about his house and the financing company his company used -- even after I told him we wouldn't need financing. He also pushed the more expensive system. He then showed us a binder full of photos and flyers as his sales pitch. They included photos of the company's truck and employee meetings and employee parties. Seriously? It was joke. And a little insulting. How is showing photos of company trucks and employee parties going to make me want to hand over many thousands of dollars? When I asked about a cash discount, he dismissed it because processing the check would cost as much as a credit card. What? "Maybe if it was a suitcase full of cash," he said. What? There was none of this silliness with Hamstra. Hamstra was substantially more expensive than the other companies, but in the end in was a no-brainer to choose them over the other two. The crew was professional and on time. The only hitch...we had a long, steady rain a week after the install and found a leak. Mistakes happen, of course. What matters is how they're handled. Hamstra was quick to accept responsibility and fix the problem. No BS whatsoever.

Dave knew about the problems in trying to program my thermostat, pointed out what I was doing wrong, and helped me get it functioning the way I wanted it to. He then did an excellent job of setting up my gas furnace for the winter. All in all, the people from Hamstra know what they are doing, they are courteous and professional, they don't try to sell you stuff you don't need (a problem i had with a previous provider), and they persistently come across as people you would love to have as neighbors.

I have used this company for the last 15 years and we have always been pleased with their work. I was especially pleased with the work the Dave Thompson did today and would highly recommend this company.

The estimate process was very professional. Hamstra arrived on time and walked through the options at our pace answering all of our questions without hesitation. I felt the rep was an honest broker even explaining that the top of the line was probably overkill for our application. The installation team arrived as scheduled, however, a necessary part was not on their truck, which caused the ac install to be delayed a couple of hours. They also ran into a problem with the venting for the heater which required some new engineering. Hamstra called in a second crew to make sure the installation was completed in a single day as promised. They had a couple of stumbles, but made an excellent recovery. The installation was completed on schedule, the crew cleaned up the job site, and the sales rep followed up as promised. Overall a high quality, professional job. Hamstra did everything they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and to the quality standard they advertised. I have already recommended Hamstra to friends and colleagues.

I have used them for about 2 years and will continue to use them. I had the Gold service plan my first year because I had not serviced my a/c system for several years. In the summer the a/c broke and they came out the next day, first thing in the morning, since I had a service plan with them. My a/c was up and running when they left a few hours later. I also had major work performed to get it in good condition and much of that was covered via the Gold plan. The service engineers are always polite and generally arrive within the window specified.

Had a problem in July when temps were hitting 110 - 120 degrees. They said they could take a look at problem in three days. That is not an acceptable response un Tucson when temps are that high Cancelled contract and another provider was there in an hour

My one issue was that they insisted that the system was 30 years old and in reality it was only 12 years old; other HVAC providers who came to the house said there was no way this could just be a mistake, as the serial # clearly tells the age and model. Thus, to me this seemed like a high pressure sales technique. Overall however though they seemed like they would have installed a good replacement system at fair market value (for a larger company), but we used another service provider for a new unit install. One other good point was that they assessed the duct work and said that it was fine and that a duct cleaning and lining would not be recommended or helpful and would be a waste of money for us.

1 day installation good clean up excellent service

We continued using Hamstra to service our HVAC when we bought the house in 2007. When the A/C service was performed on March 6th, they found leakage around the compressor coils and a loss of more Freon than they were allowed to recharge. At that point it was determined that we needed a new system. Service Technician (customer ales rep) Victor Arvizu explained what was necessary and my wife and I decided to forego the bidding process since we were going to continue with Hamstra as our service company, plus, the price was quite similar to what we had been quoted on our home in Houston a few years prior to moving here. Part of the package was the cleaning and sealing of the ductwork, which was done by Arcadia Cleaning Systems as a Hamstra sub-contractor. Mark Diezel and his crew were right on time, quickly got the job done, and tests showed a 92% reduction in duct leakage (we were provided a before and after printout of duct efficiency). Now we come to the part where Hamstra "fell down on the job". Both days scheduled for installation, Hamstra workers showed up a half hour earlier than expected without calling. Even on the second day after Ray promised to call when he left the shop. I, myself, don't mind all that much, but, they showed up the first day while I was working in the garden and my wife answered the door well before she was ready to greet the world. She was not happy. I explained the situation and Ray said they would like to show up at 07:30 again the second day and would call first. They showed up at 07:00 without calling. Again, not happy. That's it, that's the bad report. long ago, I used to work in construction and like to talk with whoever is working around the house. Hamstra folks were always pleasant and talkative when they could be, but, they were much more interested in getting the job done than chatting. Hamstra had scheduled 2 days for the install. Ray and his team were done in a day and a half. And I completely missed watching the crane lift the old unit off the roof and hoist the new unit on! But, then, the timing thing happened again. Victor was going to stop by for a final walkthrough the following week. He showed up a half hour early without calling ahead. Luckily, we weren't just getting up. I don't mind showing up early, I do mind showing up early unannounced. Other than that, it seems to me to be a big job to learn of a job, plan it and execute it in (3/24-3/6=) 18 days is pretty impressive (my previous jobs were with the government and getting all the managers to agree on a format for the proposal in less than 18 days would be unheard of), plus, they got it done while some old codger tries to chat you up? Several thumbs up, Hamstra. You have created a loyal customer.

Hamstra installed the HVAC system when the house was built (2006) and has maintained it since. We have always been happy with their service.

I had my regular spring maintenance conducted by Hamstra Heating & Cooling (they have been my service provider for a number of years and have an excellent Fall/Spring maintenance program). The maintenance service was no extra charge but I spoke with the service technician (Victor A) about allergens and any additional things I could do for my heating and cooling system to help with the seasonal allergens. The service technician was very helpful, explaining additional add-on features without any "hard-sell" tactics that other providers have used. I elected a couple of add-ons and the technician was able to make a call and install them on the same day. The technician was timely, polite and very professional. While we were waiting for the add-on parts to arrive, he even helped me put together another item that had nothing to do with the heating and cooling system! I would highly recommend Hamstra Heating and Cooling.

They came out to do the work right away. They did quality work. they gave suggestion in installing it in the most economical way possible and they were very professional.

This company installed my heating and cooling when I built my house 16 years ago. I have used them exclusively for all service on my units (3) for 16 years. I think they are terrific. Response is quick and the crew comes ON TIME. Their work is well done and everything is cleaned up after they work. They have also responded promptly for service and routine maintenance. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They also beat other companies on the price of my heat pump by a big margin.

Haven?t you always wanted to deal with a company that you can trust to know what they are doing, to tell you the truth, and not sell you what you do not need? Well, if you are in the Southern Arizona area and need anything in the Heating/Cooling arena, Hamstra is the one for you. They came to my house to give me a second estimate for work another company estimated at $1000s of dollars. (They gave me a cost for that service about 25% lower.) However, they explained how and why they diagnosed the problem differently, gave me a $65 solution to partially assist the situation, plus explained the need to get a contractor in to fix the insulation in a wall. And after talking to me thoroughly on the phone, they realized they needed to bring a technical person with the sales estimator, saving us all huge amounts of time. Go Hamstra!

We have used Hamstra for service on our HVAC system since purchasing our home in 2008. Service has always been professional and prompt. When we decided to proactively replace our system and hot water heater, we called them. Our sales representative, John Roelle, was friendly and knowledgeable, answering our many questions at our initial meeting and in follow-up emails and telephone calls. He provided an estimate promptly. We were able to schedule the installation easily, and all technicians and installers were prompt, courteous, and professional. When we were unhappy with the constant clicking noise made by the electrostatic filter located in the cold air return in the ceiling of our greatroom, an email sent to John on Saturday morning resulted in an immediate call and a visit from a technician to examine the problem and attempt to fix it. When he determined that it was impossible to do so because of the location of the cold air returns, Hamstra worked with us to identify a solution. That was accomplished promptly. Importantly, Hamstra is an approved contractor with Tucson Electric Power and was able to obtain the maximum rebates for which we were eligible. When our installation happened just after a Lennox discount promotion had ended and before a new one had begun, Hamstra was able to obtain that discount for us from Lennox. All around, service was excellent, and personnel were pleasurable to work with. While they are not the least costly, their work and service is worth the extra expense. They will continue to be our choice for a service maintenance contract and any future needs.

Hamstra was terrific to work with from start to finish. They were very informative in providing estimates and options on new systems available to us. This information included a discussion on all potential rebates and discounts available. Once we made the decision to have the system installed, they communicated a start and finish date including timing on inspections. The Hamstra installer was professional and knew exactly what needed to be done. In our situation, a crane needed to be brought in to remove the old Air conditioner and transport the new one into our backyard. It was executed seamlessly. The work was performed over a two-day period and they ensured that we had air conditioning at night. In addition, we qualified for all potential rebates and Hamstra filed all the paperwork! The new system has been in place for over a month and we are very pleased with the purchase. We are looking forward to working with Hamstra for many years to come. We highly recommend them for any HVAC work.

Our AC went out Friday night, July 18. We called Hamstra Saturday morning at 7:00-couldn't get through so we called the emergency number they provided and talked with Ron. He needed to check with the office to see what the schedule was today and said he would call back. He did and said he had one deal to finish and he would be on his way. He called a little later and said he was on his way, arriving at approximately 8:00 a.m. We also received a call from the office going to set up a time for Ron to come out and I told them he was on his way. We have a heat pump so he checked the unit, replacing a capacitor which cost $250. He then checked everything else regarding the unit both outside and inside the house. Ron appeared to enjoy his job, exhibited an engaging disposition and was professional throughout the process. He explained everything as he was checking out the system. Bottomline, the AC was up and running no later than 10 minutes after he arrived. He then spent time going over all other aspects of the system to make sure there weren't any other issues. He noted there was another capacitor in the blower portion inside the house that had a lower reading of 13.9 but thought it probably still had a useful life of 1-2 more years. He also provided a pamphlet of annual service options for our consideration. We would recommend Ron and Hamstra to others.

The overall job went very good. I like their service, their quality and reliability. One thing, they are definitely not the cheapest in town. So, I would not rate them high on their price but as far as the service, reliability and quality they are very high.
