The gentleman who came to our home was very professional and knowledgeable. The prices were double of what we were quoted by another company so we did not have this company perform the job. Was impressed with their staff though. They at least confirmed for us that the previous quote we received was for and actual repair that was real. The $69 charge was for the service call. Had we gone with this company they would have waived this fee. I would use the company in the future as a 2nd opinion on any repairs we need in the future, but probably not the work itself. They were high.
Description of Work: They provided an inspection and quote on repair. We had another company give us an estimate on a repair and wanted to be sure there was a problem and that the cost was not out of line.

I am happy we were able to provide you a second opinion for repairs that were needed and recommended by another contractor. However, we are sorry that we could not meet your expectation on price for this repair work. I am not sure how someone could be half price and still perform the same amount of work, and only hope that you were truly getting an ‘Apple to Apples’ comparison. We may not always be the low cost company but we are the best company. Happy Holidays Best Regards, William Geiger Owner/President

HP ran 10 seconds then quit. Called Air Factor (Based on Angie list rating and coupon ). Tech showed up within 30 minutes. Went up on roof. Came down in 10 minutes. Advised sensor out of whack. I agreed to fix. Tech went back on roof . Returned in 20 minutes or less. HP was running and cooling. Some discussion on 1 yr contract. No pressure. Happy about the performance. Not so much as to price but probably in line with Phx area AC services which are all too high, I'm too old now to be climbing ladders to the roof but ten yrs ago I might have paid for the analysis and replaced the $40 sensor myself so swallowing the current rates is tough.
Description of Work: Replaced pressure sensor on compressor.

Response from Air & Water Factor
Member, Thank you for choosing Air Factor Cooling & Heating for your service needs. I am very sorry you are not pleased with the cost to repair your Heat Pump. Please understand that as business owners we have multiple expenses that make up what a repair cost. First and foremost, we have to employ competent staff to be able to respond to your needs in the short 30 minutes it took us to get to your home. Then we have the cost of comprehensive ongoing technical training with our technicians, so that they can quickly and efficiently get your broken equipment accurately diagnosed and running again. We have the cost of multiple fully stocked trucks on the road to respond quickly. We also cover all of this with a 12 month parts and labor warranty. After all of this, for a repair cost of $226.50 (after the Angie’s List coupon), we hope that you understand how we determined the repair cost. Best Regards, William Geiger Owner/President

We had an emergency repair - our tenants A/C had gone out during our vacation, and they didn't have a way to contact us. So they were not happy. :-( So when we returned from vacation Sunday night and got their message, we needed service FAST. I called Air Factor on Sunday night at 7:00 pm, and by 1:00 pm on Monday, Denis was there and the repair job was very quick and efficient! Denis is a very friendly guy - and he took the time to show me the blown-out circuit board to confirm that the repair was needed. I would certainly use this company again!
Description of Work: Replace a circuit board and thermostat that had shorted out, checked the coolant level.

We called and they came within 2 days. Jim, the technician called ahead to let me know he was on the way. When he arrived he apologized because he had called from an out of state cell and was worried I would not answer as it did not identify him. I was glad he explained. He listened to my concerns and then began to review our system. He went into crawl spaces, checked thermostats, air temperatures, explaining each thing and even went out and checked our two units. I had to ask him for a brochure on their service agreements as he did not even push me to buy anything. When he told me what it would cost for this visit, I then asked about the service agreements. He was already done checking our whole system. He explained the two levels, suggested the basic plan (not the expensive one) as he said we could bump up to the higher level one if we wished but pointed out why we did not need it as our system was already wired and met some of the things that would have been provided if we chose the higher level one. He then arranged for an appointment to come back to check heating, after I selected to sign up for the plan. He was courteous, respectful, kind, informative and did not treat me like a "dumb female". He was top notch and an asset to the company. I was impressed as after he left, his office called - the woman scheduled for sure my appointment - again giving me options for the same time or to change. He also told me they would be calling in the Spring to remind us of the AC check up needed then. I have had other companies and service agreements. For our two huge Crane AC units and furnaces, it was less than $200.00 which was very reasonable I felt. I want them back and want them as my company.
Description of Work: I called concerning noisy ducts and asked if they could do anything. They came, checked the ducts, put the filters in the correct place, checked the rest of both systems, my thermostats (gave me a quick refresher course on them) and Jim, the technician spent extra time checking out my system, even though we had no service agreement. He check everything including the temperature of the AC in each room as it blew through the system. He went above and beyond.

I'm very happy with Air Factor's service and I will recommend them to family and friends. Travis arrived a few minutes early and after checking out my air conditioner, he said I needed a new thermostat. He explained the 2 thermostats he had and installed the one I picked. He showed me how to use it and then looked over my air conditioner. I purchased a one year service plan that includes 2 check-ups which is included in today's charge.
Description of Work: My air conditioner needed a new thermostat . It was replaced and I purchased a service plan which is a part of the $389.86.

It was a good experience! The service tech was really polite and knowledgable. He explained the mechanics of my HVAC system and offered several free tips that have helped. There was a service fee of $60 for him to come and inspect. I plan on using this company again for any future cooling problems.
Description of Work: I had a service tech come take a look at my A/C because I live in a two story home, and the vents blow much harder upstairs than downstairs. The tech came out the day after I called to schedule the service and arrived on time. He didn't find anything wrong, and gave me tips on things I can do myself that would help.

Air Factor has been providing tune-ups for us prior to heating & cooling seasons since May 2010. The maintenance agreement costs $239 annually & is well worth it! (It also gives me a percentage discount off of any repairs.) During one of the tune-ups we complained about the way the builders had set up the drainage from the A/C unit. It drained into the trap under one of the bathroom sinks & gave off a sewage odor. Our tech, Travis, really gave a lot of thought to how to remedy the problem without re-routing the drainage out the side of the attic. He proposed & installed a condensate drain pump, which absolutely resolved the issue. Perfect solution for us! Additionally, during a tune-up last year, Travis found a damaged coil & leaking refrigerant in the outside unit. That repair cost $1000. I am very satisfied with the quality of their work & their professionalism.
Description of Work: Installed condensate drain pump; also have maintenance agreement for HVAC system.

The night before new tenants were to move into our rental property, we realized that the upstairs AC unit was not cooling properly. We called Air Factor at 6:10 pm (after hours) and someone answered and took care of us. By 8:00 the next morning, Denis was at the house and up on the roof. He quickly diagnosed the problem (it needed coolant), gave us a quote and we okayed the work. Within 30 minutes, the job was done, and the unit was working well. Denis was very professional and did a great job. And we even got to use a coupon on the bill. Overall, a job well done when we really needed it! The tenants moved in that afternoon.

They did a very good job and came when they said they would. Their bill was extremely reasonable and they identified a problem with our main unit which required warranty work to be done. When I called to request if there was another way, they sent out a second technician who spent several hours looking at the unit and identifying the problem. They didn't charge us anything extra and they worked with us to help us get a replacement. I would use them again.

Setting an appointment was a snap. The service technician, Denis, was professional, efficient and on time. I asked him if I needed freon on one unit and he was not anxious to add it. I ran into an issue while I was installing a new programmable thermostat on Memorial Day. I called Air Factor and they promptly arrived to service my system. Denis the technician quickly diagnosed the problem and performed the repair. Since the fee I was going to be charged would be a flat rate he took the time to check out my heater and AC unit. There wasn't an extra charge for coming on a holiday and they eagerly accepted my $35 Angie's List coupon. I had a great experience using Air Factor and will certainly use them in the future.

We asked for an assessment of our heat pump/AC in the home to which we have just moved. The technician arrived on time, offered us some brochure to review concerning the services offered by the company. After spending about 20 - 30 minutes testing the unit, he indicated that the unit was in good condition. Adequate for the size of our house, and while 5 years old there was no reason to change. He did recommend service contract with any company of our selection, so that any warranty could be continued. We selected a 2 year option with this company. What we did enjoy was the lack of any pressure to quickly sign prior to any work being done on the unit. This was an enjoyable experience, and we feel confident that our unit is working well as we approach this summer season.
Description of Work: The technician came to assess the condition of our heat pump/AC. He spent time on the roof looking and testing the unit (I watched from the ground). He then came in and discussed the age, capacity, and quality of the unit. We are quite pleased with the service, knowledge of the technician, and suggestions that were offered. No repair of the unit was needed.

So my day begins, I find this company on Angie's List, and I call them sometime around 9am to fix my AC stat. Surprisingly they were able to schedule an appointment from 6-8pm the same evening. After I got off the phone, they called me back and asked where I heard about them from. I told them Angie's list and they informed me that I could print out a $35 coupon from the site, and I did. So, 6pm rolls around and I'm finally just leaving work. I'm thinking: this is really bad I'm late to the appointment, but the tech hasn't called so maybe he's not done with his/her previous job yet and it won't be so bad that I'm late? He calls me at 6:20 saying I've been here 20 minutes, is everything okay? He sounded really nice so I'm feeling rather guilty about wasting his time. I let him know I was down the street and I would be there in a few minutes, and I was. When I pulled up he was waiting at my door and was incredibly kind and genuine for having had to wait around for 20 minutes. We then went inside and he turned on my AC unit and headed up to the roof. I watched TV for about half an hour and he came down with four items that I could purchase if I wanted to. He explained each item very well in depth. I purchased a new fuse and a starter kit so that the initial power-on sequence didn't pull too much electricity again and blow another fuse. He then went up to the roof again for about another 30 minutes and came back with the bill. I showed him the Angie's List coupon and he applied it immediately with no questions and no problems. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company to everyone I know because the service I received was second to none.

My central air system was not cooling at the beginning of warm weather season. I called Air Factor for the first time having found their information on Angie's List. They were very helpful and prompt. My situation was not an emergency due to the mild weather. So, I agreed to schedule the technician for the next day. I like that they schedule two hour windows and the technician came within the timeframe. The technician diagnosed the problem and replaced the capacitors that start and run the fan motor on the outside unit. That solved the problem. He also checked our system to see that it was running properly. He was very thorough and took time to make sure that everything was working. I don't know enough about professional HVAC service to say whether or not the price was good. I do know that the parts involved in this case don't cost much. I was paying for the service of having an expert solve the problem. The problem was solved and I was very satisfied with the service.

three trips and several thousand dollars and they did not fix the problem.
Description of Work: This was checkup following a fixed leak last April. It had leaked an additional 5 pounds of r-22. when I talked to Bill the owner he told me this was a new leak. This is because it worked through the last season. they charged me 141 dollars for the first pound of gas and 65 dollars for the additional 11 pounds. I called the local electric company and they sent out a A/C person who charged 27 dollars for the r-22 and stated that a slow leak should have been resolved by Air Factor.

Response from Air & Water Factor
In May of 2010, the member called and spoke to me directly. He said that his system wasn’t working and that another contractor had just tried to repair it. He said they replaced the indoor coil because it was leaking and it was still not working correctly. I asked him why he wasn’t having the other company, Tempe Mechanical, repair the system. He said because they refused to come back to his house. He then said he would like us to take a look at it because the system has never worked correctly. He has lived in this house for 5 years and every year there is something wrong. He also mentioned that the system on the other side of the house never had any problems. We scheduled one of our N.A.T.E and Master Heat Pump Certified technicians to take a look at his system. The day of the service call, which happened to be a Saturday, our technician found the system extremely low on refrigerant. The service port caps were missing and the port itself was covered in oil which is a sign of a leak. Our technician replaced the Schrader valve in the service port and re-charged the system. He then installed new service caps to replace those that were missing. Once the system was charge he re-evaluated the system and didn’t find any additional leaks. Our technician quoted and the member approved the repairs prior to any work being performed. Air Factor Cooling & Heating utilizes a National Flat Rate pricing system for all necessary repairs, which insures that we are consistent with similar contractors in our industry. These charges take into account the necessary operating expenses of a reputable company with certified and trained staff. The member failed to mention that the $1082.00 he was charged also included $279.80 in routine maintenance contracts for both of his systems. This provided for two (2) additional Tune Up visits on both systems at his house over the course of the next year and also provided him with an additional savings of $89.38 on this repair alone. Our technician also went the extra step of giving him $35.00 off from the Angie’s List Coupon, which clearly states it cannot be combined with other discounts. The technician also waived the Service Call Fee of $69.95. This clearly demonstrates that we genuinely care for our customers. After the visit in May 2010 he posted on Angie’s List the following: “they fixed a problem that another HVAC company created. Did it quickly knew what they were doing.” He rated us: Overall (A) Price (A) Quality (A) Responsiveness (A) Punctuality (A) Professionalism (A) Per his Angie’s List post on May 8, 2010. On July 2, 2010 he called and said the system was not performing well. We immediately dispatched a technician to his home to investigate. The technician found the system was again low on refrigerant and that we needed to do a leak test. He authorized our technician to perform the test which did not turn up any leaks. Our technician recommended an isolation test which isolates the system components to pinpoint the location of hard to find leaks. The member was unhappy to hear this and requested assistance with the cost of this test. As an act of good will we agreed to assist, and performed the Isolation Test at no cost to him as long as he agreed to pay for the repair once the leak was located. This test typically costs around $700.00 to perform. Once the system was isolated, we let it sit for a few days to see where the pressure loss occurred. We returned on July 7th 2010 to find that the condensing unit was the only component to loose pressure and the King Valve was leaking. We replaced the King Valve and recharged the system. Our service technician validated that the leak was repaired and showed the member the test results, which clearly indicated the system is sealed and is not leaking any further. He paid for the replacement of the King Valve and Air Factor Cooling & Heating took care of the refrigerant needed again at NO COST to him. Again, Air Factor Cooling & Heating stepped up and did the right thing because we truly care. December of 2010 we performed Tune Ups on both of his systems as part of his maintenance agreements. We performed one repair which was an unrelated issue concerning a flue pipe. Both system checked out fine and were working normally at the completion of this repair. On April 5th 2011, during another routine maintenance visit we found the system leaking again. He advised our technician that the system had worked fantastic all season after the last repair in July of 2010. Our technician explained to him that a new leak search would be needed to locate the new leak. He also explained to him that there must be a new leak; just like a tire can be repaired this doesn’t mean a new leak won’t develop at some time in the future. The member contacted our office to speak with me as he wanted to understand his options, again stating to me that the system worked fine since the last repair. I advised him that after all of this time, as he stated, this system has been continually problematic for the last 5 years. The first contractor who attempted to repair it refused to come back to his house to attempt another repair. I told him that most likely the system has developed a new leak. I then advised him that in my opinion, he should consider replacing this system. A new system will have a warranty and this would protect him from future expenses. I didn’t want to see him spend any more money on this problematic system due to its track record. He was agreeable to this and scheduled a consultation with our estimator. This appointment was scheduled for April 7th and that morning he abruptly canceled his appointment. Instead of communicating with me he elected to post a negative report on Angie’s List. I don’t know who he used to add refrigerant to his system, or whether this company located and repaired his leak. If they just added refrigerant then they did a disservice to him because this refrigerant will just leak back out. I believed and continue to believe that Air Factor Cooling & Heating worked ethically and always had his best interest in mind. We never deceived or mislead him at any time. We bent over backwards to work with him to reach an amicable resolve, and would have continued to do so; despite the first contractor not wanting to work with him anymore. There was no need to take his frustration, pertaining to a system that we did not install, out on us. We fully understand how frustrating this type of a problem is and Air Factor Cooling & Heating was trying to help him resolve the concern. Sincerely, William Geiger President Air Factor Cooling and Heating 480-706-3333

Overall, they spent the time to provide a better solution than was originally provided for the house. We didn't have air circulating for the size unit we needed for our house, so expanding that made a big difference. The original design for replace had a new air duct created in a hard to reach area that would have been an eye sore and would make selling our house difficult. We explained this to the gentlemen who came to do the work and they were open to an alternative that would expand both the existing attic access (which is not visible) and expland the existing register. I appreciated they were open to our concerns and developed an alternative that worked for them and us.
Description of Work: We decided to replace our 20+ year old heat pump before summer and in hopes of getting a more energy efficient unit. They replaced the outdoor condenser with compressor, attic unit and expanded the blower to circulate more air through ducts in the house.

Estimate/measurement process was very thorough; salesman took me up on the roof and explained the work being done, how it would differ from what was currently installed, etc. He walked me through my options with pricing/rebates/warranties and we decided on an appropriate unit to install. The installation itself went smoothly, it was early autumn in AZ so the techs made sure that everything was blowing cold air before they left. However, a month or two later it got cold outside and the heat wouldn't turn on. I called them and within about 24 hours they had a tech out to make a simple wiring fix on the thermostat. They mentioned they had never installed one of those thermostats before, which I thought was interesting, but it was an easy enough fix. One thing I think should be noted that I wasn't thrilled about: The awesome warranty/support they offer on the unit REQUIRES that you purchase their protection plan (free for the first year), every year you have the unit that the warranty's still in effect. The warranty's void if that care plan expires. I had no idea of this going into the transaction and wasn't so happy about it as I expect it will increase my total cost of ownership somewhat. Otherwise, service is very good and they do call to remind me to schedule appointments for tuneups (which are free, so far...)

Response from Air & Water Factor
Hi Member, Thank you for the kind comments about our service. I feel it was necessary though to clarify your comments on the warranty/protection. The “protection plan” you speak of is Air Factor Cooling & Heating’s Maintenance Agreement. Air Factor Cooling & Heating offers this maintenance agreement for the first year included with your purchase. You can then purchase future years at a discount to maintain your equipment. This will keep your Factory (not Air Factor Cooling & Heating’s) warranty in effect. You are under no obligation to use Air Factor Cooling & Heating for your annual maintenance, although we know your system the best as we installed it. All manufactures require annual maintenance to keep the warranty in effect. Manufactures can and do request proof of maintenance and will decline coverage of warranty items if maintenance has not been performed. This maintenance is like changing the oil in your car. If you don’t change your oil and the engine fails your warranty will be cancelled and you would be responsible for the repair. Please consider this cost of ownership an investment in keeping your system looking and running good, just like a car wash and oil change. Best Regards, William Geiger, President

The next day right on schedule, Air Factor arrives at my door at 7 :30 in the morning. My installers were two very nice polite young men, Travis and Bryan. They worked solid throughout the day in bitter cold. I don't think they even took time out for lunch. They laid down tarps through my house and started to work. Later in the day, both Denis and Tim arrived to help. Tim brought parts in for the crew and assisted them where he could. Denis showed up to help install the compressor, all in an effort to get the job done in a timely fashion. They worked straight through until 5:00 P.M. when they finally got me hooked up with heat again. After the install, they pulled up the tarps and vaccumed the carpets. They also put up with my barking dogs all day long. Afterwards, Tim walked me through the system, had me up in the attic again, showed me everything that I needed to know about the system, how the dampers worked etc. He showed me each run and explained why they did certain things. They also included a new wooden walkway for me around my attic so I don't step into my ceiling. Last night was my first night with heat in a week! The system runs so quietly you don't even know its on. I had to get up and check just to see for certain that it was indeed running. My house is warm warm warm! In closing, I've been in property management for 36 years. I work with commercial HVAC so they were not contractors I could use at my house. I was just like anyone else out there, searching for a reputable HVAC contractor from scratch. I can smell a con artist a mile away and unfortunately some of these other HVAC contractors were just that, with their very inflated costs to replace parts, to doing unesscesary work such as replacing an electric supply line. Tim and I talked about this. HVAC contractors would have all the work they need, if they were just honest. I currently manage a large 1749 home HOA. I will be putting Air Factor on our recommended vendors list for our Seniors. Seniors are often the targets of scam operators and I am so very happy to be able to recommend Air Factor and its entire crew to them. I cannot say enough postitives about Air Factor, Tim and the rest of the crew. Tim also told me he would help me look at another contract I have for an HVAC on another house out of state, just to make sure I'm getting the best deal. What service! I work with a lot of contractors on a daily basis and these guys are tops! I don't think you can go wrong with them. M.L. Schmit Chandler AZ
Description of Work: My 19 year old HVAC system, died on me during the recent cold snap we had in the valley. Air Factor sent Denis out to see if he could get it running. At first he was able to do this, but due to the age of the system it did not stay running. Prior contractors from other companies, didn't even really try to get it going, pronouced it dead and wanted to get their estimators on site ASAP. I was told by one other contractor early in the day, that my capacitor was bad, that it was a $220 part and would cost an additional $140 in labor to replace it. This other contractor went to great lengths to show me that his 'meter' showed no 'reading' when he touched it to the capcitor. Denis from Air Factor, just looked at me when I told him this story, raised his eyebrows a little, didn't say anything bad about the other contractor but told me that my capacitor was just fine. It was simply the age of the compressor and he couldn't keep it running. We discussed the option of purchasing a new compressor for an old system, but we both knew that was really not a smart thing to do, when the entire system was already four years past its expected life. Denis got on the phone, contacted Air Factors estimator Tim Friederich. Tim showed up at my door at 5:00 P.M. and he stayed an amazing three hours. He checked the entire house, the system, the install etc. He measured the outside walls and windows and calculated the load factor. Tim made sure I went up in the attic with him and looked at the old system. He pointed out several problems with how the exisisting system was installed (tract home, fast build) and how he would correct that. We discussed the electric supply, I had been told by the earlier contractor that I needed a new electric supply, at a cost of $450. Both Denis and Tim told me NO.. that of course all new electrical devices have government regulations to be more energy efficient and the supply was fine, as the new HVAC will actually draw less load than the old 19 year old unit. Another score for Air Factor and another black mark for the prior contractor. Tim sat at my kitchen table, worked up the estimates on four differant systems. We talked at length about the various systems. The advanatages of each, the estimated cost/benefits of the systems. Tim never once attempted any high pressure sales techniques. He simply explained everything in depth to me. I told him I wanted to do some research and would make my decision later. He very pleasantly left, after spending that huge amount of time with me.. I think he is pretty confident that after working with him, you will go with Air Factor. He was correct. I did my research over the span of the next couple of days, called Air Factor on Thursday, Tim came to my office and we filled out all the paperwork and he was out the door to arrange for the install the next day.
