The contract included money to move the breaker box and wiring from the back of the house. With the installed new siding, the back of the house would be free of electrical wiring and equipment. So either Direct Source didn't give the electrical sub-contractor all the information or the electrical sub-contractor didn?t pass the information to their employees. The electrician moved the breaker box but then installed a junction box in the middle of the back of the house. This was completely unacceptable and the electricians had to move it to the side of the house. We had no electricity for about 48 hours during this process. There was no oversight of the project by the Direct Source staff.
I was at home the day the patio cover was installed. The plan was for the posts to be cemented in the ground. However, the installers didn?t know this and had cut the posts for mounting on the patio. I noticed this and the installers revised their plans. They had to purchase additional materials. Again, there was no oversight by the Direct Source staff. This is yet another example of poor project management.
Finally, the electrician arrived to install the ceiling fans. Fan beams had been incorporated into the insulated patio cover for the electrical wiring associated with the ceiling fans. The electrician told me that the wiring for the ceiling fans could not be fished behind the siding. The patio cover extended too high for easy access. So, the electrician installed a gray metal conduit horizontally along the underside of the patio cover and vertically near the switch. Subsequently, I found out that the wiring could have been fished behind the siding, albeit at additional effort and cost.
I was very upset with the outcome of this installation. I had not paid the additional $1300 to move the breaker box and junction box from the back of the house to have these metal conduits ?decorate? the house. I asked Allen with Direct Source about removing these metal conduits and fishing the wiring. He told me it would be too expensive and wouldn?t happen. A project manager with experience and doing his job should have planned the work knowing what the outcome of the job. The electrical wiring should have been run before the siding was installed.
There was no cleanup following the work. Cox Cable had to come out to reinstall cable to the upstairs for a cost of $367.32. The alarm company had to come out to hook up to the phone line, another $324.00. There are still cables, hoses, etc. exposed.
I cannot recommend Direct Source Home Renovations to anyone.
Rather than call and complain again, I deducted $500 from invoice, wrote letter to Direct Source stating the problem and cc'd my lawyer.
I would NEVER use them again, and only wish I had checked Angie's List prior to contacting them.
