Last year I had a tankless gas water heater installed and the vent through the roof had developed a leak. The $49 advertized price was said to include sealing of roof vents yet when the contractor came out he quoted an additional $100 price to reseal one vent. I questioned him on what was included in the advertized price and he claimed this sealing was not. I reluctantly agreed based on the fact that it would cost at least $100 to have another contractor come out and do the job. UPDATE: At the Contractor's request and to make sure I had said nothing wrong I re-reviewed the coupon. It says Here's the Deal: - $49 for inspection of your roof by a roofing specialist and a $100 repair credit - Minor roof repairs that can cause water infiltration - Caulking exposed nail heads on flashing - Maintenance of RESEALING AROUND ANY UNSEALED PIPE COLLARS, EXHAUST FANS/VENTS AND CHIMNEY FLASHING - UP TO FOUR PENETRATIONS - Photos taken of any additional areas in need of maintenance and a plan of action presented
Description of Work: Inspected the roof and sealed/resealed a vent line

$49 I will inspect your roof and calk the nail holes. and caulk around pipe boots. I took pictures of the vent and explained to the home owner what was done wrong. I gave them options...The least expensive was $200 or $100 after discount for that I would apply, Gaco , a silicone product with fiber infused its like liquid flashing, a 5 gallon bucket costs over $300 I was able to do it for one hundred because I would schedule it the same day.as another job and use leftovers. I explained this to the customer. I went over everything again with the customer about the scheduling and when we got to the price, there was some confusion. The customer thought that I should do the repair for free and even bought me a copy of the Angies list Big deal, it clearly says $100 discount from a repair. Maybe its not so clear. I did not want to seem impatient, so i really took my time explaining everything. I had a nice conversation with the customer .I wanted her to know the cost of the material and I was hoping that she would understand .I think She did understand. She just did not care that a $100 was below my cost. The angies list big deal is a marketing program that allows me to meet customers face to face.In the hopes of making a good impression , so maybe they will call me with future work. If there was any confusion.I unequivocally explained the coupon and what I was willing to do for an agreed price before any work was done. To be accused of baiting, then switching. Is not accurate and to do it on a public forum where the intent is to hurt my business . The customer even states that to have someone else do it would cost $100. I talked to Angies list about making the coupon easier to understand.

They made MAGIC happen on my bathroom walls!!! LOL! They were courteous, professional and SKILLED! I really thought the bathroom walls were going to have to be replaced they were so rough! But it didn't take any time for Sherrie to assess what work needed to be done and she and I walked through the bathroom and I pointed out what I wanted the walls to look like. She and Robert showed up when they said they would, looked at the work I wanted to have done, assessed what product they would need to perform the services I asked for and were just top notch professionals. There are no longer any ugly unsightly wall scars, my light bar is now centered and they left the walls SMOOTH as a baby's bottom. Sherrie actually came back AGAIN to sand, AND she vacuumed up all of the dust residue. Nothing was tracked through the house, she used plastic sheeting and very obviously knew what she was doing! Sherrie was extremely flexible in working with my erratic schedule (I am in sales) and is a real asset to Cobalt Construction. Would definitely recommend HIGHLY and will definitely call on Cobalt Construction to have her come back for any future needs!
Description of Work: They "mudded" (filled with spackle etc) walls in my upstairs master bath and also a small area on the ceiling by the washer and dryer that had a poorly repaired crack (that I did myself).

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it worked out very well. I am not there and am on the other side of the country so we did everything from a distance and it worked out well. They came and did what they said they were going to do, were reliable and we were happy with it. I had a couple of scheduling glitches.
Description of Work: I used Cobalt Roofing and Construction for four hours of drywall repair. I had a leak in a ceiling so they had to go up there and repair the leak. Then I had to have the hole in the ceiling patched and painted.

It did not go well at all. This company did three roofs for us and they were done well so we hired them to do the inside work as well. It took way longer then we expected and the workmanship was not very good. Most everything that was done had to be corrected. The first crew that installed the wood floor messed it us so badly that David had to buy more wood and get another crew to install it. The crown molding doesn't look like it was put up by a professional. The drywall has many flaws in it. The paint on the doors is not very good. David did reduce his fee by $500.00 but I would rather have a nicely done job. He asked what could he do to make it right but short of ripping everything out and starting over there wasn't anything he could do. We had just been through 2 months of renovation h*** and weren't about to go through any more of that with this company.
Description of Work: Told me that his company could do all the work I wanted done in 3 days. It took well over 2 months. We wanted front door replaced. Had two new doors and frames for two bedrooms installed. Had all the drywall and flooring removed in foyer and hallway. Had new drywall, and trim installed. Had new wood floor installed. Had some electrical work done. Got everything painted in the hallway and foyer.

This post has bothered me, I do not know how to respond. I take responsibility for everything that happens on my jobsite. I don't offer excuses I can make every customer happy. The customer said" I like watching your men work its like watching HGTV" maybe thats why she thought it would take 3 days. She was unhappy with paint color, She said that my painter did not use the paint she bought. She was not happy with stain on the door that she picked out.I repainted and bought new door. At the very beginning . I walked the job with customer, I pointed to a closet door and asked" do you want the door painted?" The customer said no. however she told my painter to paint it. when I reminded her of our conversation she complained about the paint job.At this point i just wanted out of there.I will never argue with a customer. If I have to go an extra mile, I'll go two. When the installer the wood floors, She said she was happy..two weeks later she wanted me to come see it. I saw marks on the wood floors. It looked like someone moved furniture across them, what I saw was that the wood floors butted to the door jams . I expect wood floors to disappear under the jams with no spaces- I would of replaced the floors for that reason alone, so I just replaced the entire wood floors, hoping to make customer happy.the wood floors look perfect. I don't see the need go on. This customer never fully paid me from previous work and she did not pay the agreed amount for this job, so 6 months later when she called about the stain on her front door. The office admin explained that we only warranty jobs that are paid in full. If I would of got the call I would of went to her house and fixed the door it would of taken me one minute and I could of avoided the agony of having to write a review. When working on someones home it requires care and consideration. No matter how small the job . I inspect every job because its my name on the work. David Cobalt Francis

Some (3) were larger holes in the drywall. Drywall tape was used to cover holes? I always thought tape was used for seams. Four very small holes from a toilet paper holder was fixed with two long pieces of tape making it a bigger problem to fix. The only reason I am not give a grade of F is my wife really liked the friendliness of their employee. I am not a drywall professional but I know when something looks bad. It was not an easy job but using all of the drywall tape made job look unprofessional. I was told using drywall mud was a better option? Again, I cannot speak to doing the job or I would have done it myself. I had to call several times (7) to finally talk to someone and getting them out to perform job. In there defense, because there are two sides, weather in the area delayed the job getting done and probably made scheduling/re-scheduling difficult maybe I don't know anything about drywall and this is normal. I just didn't like the way it turned out. Their employees were very friendly though.

Tape is stronger than mud alone. The customer did not want to pay anything extra, We taped and floated the small spot, once the mud dried it would have to be sanded. Its easier to sand a 6" spot a 1/2" spot , its easier to hold a sanding block than a very small piece of sand paper. If a customer is not happy or think the work is a B- please call the office..we are not finished until every job is an A

David came out several times to discuss our roof and how he would do things. Our biggest concern was getting the turret done correctly. Not and easy task to take the old wood shake shingles off and put a new shingle roof on it due to the curvature and they would have to work from a lift. He answered all of our questions and concerns. David was the only contractor that I could find who had experience with round turrets. Other contractors came out and looked at the roof and said it looked okay....really? I don't think they waned to work on a roof like this. The insurance company thought it needed to be replaced. David was here when the insurance adjustor was here to inspect roof. He worked very well with the insurance company. He had to talk to them several times about extra costs involved with this type of steep roof and turret. He worked with us to find a shingle that would go with the character of our home. We decided to do the whole roof in the same shingle (not go back with a wood shake on the turret). A large bucket lift was used to lift supplies up to the guys and they had to hang from this to do most of the turret work. We did ask David to have the turret redone. When he came by to look at it, he agreed that it didn't look right. The crew had done the snap lines incorrectly. The copper seams were fixed and look great. Our new gutters w/gutter guards look great with the trim color of our home and the new shingles. His crew cleaned up the area everyday and they were very polite. David was very easy to work with and quick to respond to calls/emails. We are extremely pleased with our new roof on the house, turret and the repair to the copper seams.
Description of Work: Replaced roof on Victorian style house that has a large round turret and very steep pitched roof (22/12). Replaced roof on detached garage. Fixed 2 copper seams on a small copper roof that sets above a protruding bedroom window. Put new gutters and gutter guards on.

Provider subcontracted roofing work to someone who has his own crew. Never saw David of subcontractor again. Roofing crew was excellent; but, they did not speak English. Difficult to communicate what time of day to expect them or when they would be back. Junk trailer had a flat and stayed in our driveway for a couple of days until someone could come pick it up. David did not like to talk on phone or even email. He only texts.

I did not provide a subcontractor, My crew has been with me for 3 years, fact is I got the customer roof approved when it was previously denied. I did show up before the job started..I delayed the job because of rain. I give a ten warranty against leaks , so I use synthetic felt, rubber in valley. also I was able to get the insurance to pay profit and overhead, so the customer payed zero for the upgrades. The customer had the nicest koi pond I ever saw, most swimming pools have less filtration systems. So I gave strict instructions, all the old roof is to carried to the other side of house, not easy with wind , but the gutters were not scratched and no debris in the pond. my dually double axel trailer had 90 squares of shingles, and I had to get my big truck to tow it. Its a big tex trailer, the nicest trailer made.yes it did have a flat tire, when you go to the dump it hard not to pick up nails. I like to communicate thru texts and emails , I had no idea that the customer had a problem with that so from now on I will ask. As far as my crews. I want them not to smoke and follow my instructions, and to notify me of any changes. Also Honest and dependable. Some people requests white crews , but once I explain, that a good job is what the really most agree. I've framed houses with men that I did not speak the language, they learn by doing.I respect any many who shows up easrly or works late to finish a job regardless race. I e verify all my men.which proves they are citizens or here legally. they pay into social security , but can't draw it. I do 50% commercial jobs, so I'm required to have workmens comp. Even my salesmen have it. it. since this post my phone has not rung. I have an office and a warehouse I have two office lines and all my project managers have cell phones. If you call someone will answer. thank you angies list for 2013 super service award. Cobalt

Dis not hire for reasons stated above.
Description of Work: I wanted to use the $449 coupon for $900 worth of work by Cobalt Roofing and Construction (for 2 Skilled Painters for the Day). My project was to paint some areas I could not get to because of the height of the house. Surprisingly (being facetious), Colbalt's proposal to do the job was exactly $900. The Colbalt contact told me the $900 cost excluded the $449 coupon. If I insist to use the $449 coupon, he said, he had to increase the cost by $449, thus totally negating the coupon.

Sorry for delay in response,. I spoke to the gentleman who came out to inspect the work that needed painted. The coupon is for two painters for ONE days work. As was explained to you by the gentleman,. they would need more than one days worth of painting for them to complete the job, painting the exterior of your home. The added amount of 450$ for the additional time and Day needed was the sum total of $900. Our coupons are of great value to our Customers when they are purchased. But when the work needed done will take the two painters more than One Day's of work, It is customary for the painters to give a (Bid) to complete the entire Project., which is what you were told., and given. I'm sorry if their was a misunderstanding, about the value of the coupon and its limitations. We would be happy to paint the exterior of your home, but it was not possible to complete all of the work in One day. I hope this help's you to better understand why you were given the quote for the additional work, past the One Day Coupon. Thank you for your response, if you Have any questions further? This was a fail. I was excited to meet with David, the owner, after reading the reviews on here and after our phone conversation; he seemed very amiable. When we met at the house, I felt we had an instant rapport: I liked his ideas and he seemed very knowledgeable. I had already interviewed a couple of other contractors, but after meeting David I honestly thought the job was his. David seemed to like the property and seemed excited about the job and even said "oh, this looks like a project I want to take on myself," and talked about adding a stone fireplace to our garden, etc. I was very happy with our meeting. At the end of the hour-long meeting I told him I would follow up with an email outlining the scope of work we had discussed, as well as the measurements of the house (my experience has been that if I am very proactive with contractors, things happen faster!). I indeed followed up with the email September 27th. And then....nothing. I made several attempts, but after a month was unable to ever get an estimate from this company and got tired of trying. It was very disappointing. I interviewed a good number of other contractors and moved ahead with another company.
Description of Work: I contacted David to get an estimate on some remodeling work in a home we were about to purchase after reading Angie's List reviews. The scope of the project included: complete master bath and kitchen renovations, ceiling refinishing and reframing (adding trays to several rooms), laying hardwood flooring, interior painting and the addition of a deck. All in all, it is a large project and we were prepared to receive quotes in the 100k range. I don't know if the scope of work was more than he wanted to take on, was capable of taking on or what.

Cobalt has done an excellent job working between us and our insurance company. He was able to help facilitate our claim and was able to work with us to get the work completed within the costs allowed by the insurer. We chose to upgrade to lead pipe boots and went from standard shingles to architectural shingles and our out of pocket for the changes was very reasonable. He is very busy and was late coming to meet us once, but did respond via text with his arrival time. The crew working on the roof did beautiful work and completed our large, high pitched roof in less than 3 days. They arrived early and worked late to get the job done. They cleaned up and were very pleasant around my family while we were home. The dry wall crew lead was a little frustrating to work with due to his schedule. My husband had to wait on him more than once. Once, he cancelled in advance. The second time, he said he was on his way and never showed up, but in later conversations found out he had a family matter to come up. He did show up on time the next morning and has communicated well with us since. Dry wall repairs are nearly complete and it looks really good. The garage ceiling is over 12 feet and they have completed the work without incident or complaint. Again, they are a business that is reaping the rewards of their good work and are busy juggling clients. My work is nearly complete and I'm happy. I am so grateful they were able to help us get this work done and paid for by our insurer. Some companies will not work with insurance.

David was great. He assisted in working with the insurance company so that we got a fair settlement on the claim. We had several rain delays but when the weather looked like we were going to have a few days of sun, his crew showed up early and started right to work. They worked very hard the first day removing everything down to the rafters and then getting the OSB laid and the waterproofing on quick in case of rain. On day two the framers came and did a fantastic job getting rid of the flat roof. The roofers worked ceaselessly trying to get the roof on before the rain that wasn't supposed to happen came. When it started raining they quickly tarped the roof so that the contents of the house were protected. They did a fantastic job on the roof, fascia, painting. I was very impresses on the rebuild of a overhang, and the cut in of the flashing around my chimneys. They are a very professional company that really care about the quality of the work that they do. Cobalt and David are my contractor and I have already hired him to help with other jobs on my home. I have recommended him to my friends and give him a double thumbs up.
Description of Work: I have a 3,000 sq ft home with both pitched 12/6 and flat roof on addition. I had the roof striped to include all sheeting. The sheeting was replaces with 3/4" tongue and groove OSB. The flat roof was removes and pitched to follow the contour of the original roof. Drip edge and ice and water shield was applied to all eves and valleys and synthetic felt applied prior to adding the architectural shingles. A solar vent was added to the new roof over the addition. The fascia replaced where needed, primed and painted. New seamless gutters with downspouts were installed. New 6" gutters and downspouts were

I requested an estimate for siding repair/replacement on the rear of my home through their website. Someone from the office contacted me within 2 days to set up an appointment for an estimate. My appointment was scheduled for a Saturday morning at 10AM; however, it was raining. I never heard anything from the company and thought maybe the appointment was rescheduled due to the rain. At 10:30, I called the gentleman scheduled to provide the estimate to inquire if the appointment had been rescheduled due to the rain. Fifteen minutes later, he returns my call and asks if he could still come even in the rain. He eventually showed up an hour and a half later. After measuring my home for repair, he asked if he could just send a text message with the details of the conversation. I contacted him later that week for an official estimate; however, I have had no response. I would not recommend this company for any work to be performed due to their lack of professionalism.

Response from Cobalt Roofing & Construction
Pouring down rain...and i drive from Athens to give you a estimate, and put it in writing. I explained the best way to do the repair job. I treat people the way I want someone to treat my Mom. Most people are fine with a text message, I explained exactly what I would do and the cost. Most people say" thanks for coming out in the rain and on a Saturady" Getting bad reports really gets me down. I wish I could please everyone.

We decided to give this company a second chance. The first time was a repeat of the first F rating. When we posted an F the first time the company called asked us to give them another chance. Was asked to REMOVE the rating. Was promised a great job at reasonable rate done to our request and not finished until satisfied. Fellow came out fairly promptly , emailed us the 3 days later with estimate. Talked to him next time, he thought he left something at the house, told him it was a go. Husband emailed him to go ahead. Guess what it was déjà vu all over again. We have Not heard from the company again. No response to email sent. I am so disgusted with this company I would never use them. Very unreliable Very unprofessional Estimated Cost: $1200.00

Everything went well. Showed up on time and did what he said he was going to do. Even explained some other stuff that might be happening in the future due to the nature of our problem and gave me an estimate of what that would cost.
Description of Work: We had a leak in one part of the house. David came and inspected everything. Process of elimination he determined what could be casuing the problem. He fixed it with in 30 mins. Very nice guy who got the job done!
