David worked with my insurance company and I got my roof and gutters replaced and inside ceilings repainted where the roof had leaked. Painter covered everything in the room to keep paint off furniture and new carpet. He came when scheduled and was in and out very efficiently. Roof and gutters were replaced with equal professionalism and efficiency.
Description of Work: I originally purchased $59 Angie's Deal - I had roof shingles sticking up and wanted a roof inspection prior to selling my house. David came out and after inspecting my roof determined I had damage and would need repairs - he recommended a new roof.

Overall, I graded the job a C because the finished product is a C. The leader of the crew that did the work told me that I had purchased two men for 6-8 hours, and that he was contracted by Cobalt to perform the work, that he did not work for Cobalt. There was not mention of 6-8 hours in the posting, and I was immediately feeling uncomfortable about what exactly I had purchased. I bought a crew of "painters", not the support and oversight of a professional painting company. We had scheduled the work a week in advance, and the day of the job, there was rain in the forecast. I suggested we re-schedule, but was told that he was booked for at least the next week, and that it was not raining now, and "why don't we get started." In advance, I was told to get a gallon of paint, and a gallon of thinner. I assumed the paint would be brushed or rolled. Was not told that I would also need to provide masking suppliers and several gallons paint. I did buy a few drop clothes, and had a few rolls of masking tape, but was not prepared for masking to spray. So, let the painters use 6 mil poly to mask, and had a giant amount of trash in front of my house when done. (Could have been neatly rolled up, but that would have taken extra time, and was made worse because one of the painters lost his phone and thought it might be in side the plastic wrap). The rain came about 1/3 of the way through the paining. They came back the next day to finish, and "sort of" addressed water issues by repainting. There was a serious hurry to get done and on to the next job, so there were a lot of missed spots. There should have been two coats applied. They came back a few weeks later to repaint the missed spots, and the job is complete. The quality is okay, but well below the original paint job, and would definitely not impress anyone. The ironic part.. I had a quote to have the work done, for $50 less than the Angie's list deal. I thought that I would get more for my 16 hours of work, but did not. I did not like the pay before the work is done and hope it gets done right.

The company responded to our phone call promptly and made an appointment within a reasonable time. The owner and staff arrived on time and quickly assessed our roof. He and his nephew went up on the roof and into our attic to assess the water damage we had. Afterwards, he sat down with us to explain what he saw. We have called several people for an estimate so that we can make the best decision for our home. However, we have not decided which company to go with at this time. So far this company responded in a professional manner.
Description of Work: No service was provided at this time. Possible replacement of roof in future. Still narrowing down several companies.

Cobalt save our rear ends by getting our insurance company to pay for the work. This is after 3 other roofers looked at it. So we paid our 1,000 deductible and that was basically it for the roof. Had some cosmetic repairs done out of pocket. He David Francis, co-owner, also got insurance company to pay for leak damage in one of the bedrooms. Cobalt has been around a while. Their crew works hard long hours. You will have 6-10 people working to get the job done fast. also, on our other house we have had some leaking issues with the chimney. He got that fixed too!!! I mentioned 4 grand because we then had the house repainted by Cobalt. It looks amazing!! And they didnt paint the windows shut like the last painter.
Description of Work: Roofed my 1,750 sq ft house plus separate garage. plus removed a part of the garage that was being damaged by a big ol tree! Then painted our 1929 bungalow to pristine condition.

There is Donald Bradford Painting & Repair. I never got anything good from him. His quote, I think he was doing a lot of the stuff here. He goes by Cobalt Roofing and Construction by the way, he has 2 names. I could never get all of the information from him. I don't have a total price. I have pricing, I never got a quote on the roofing and front rails, I never got my quote there. That was about 12000 dollars but I was missing a lot of the price. I was missing things from him. He failed to get back with me on things and when I tried to communicate with him he would never answer my phone calls. I started sending that he would answer an email once in a while, I had a question about the windows he proposed and he didn't respond to me, he had the supplier respond which was okay but I would rather heard from him. I didn't get a warm fudgy feeling about him and responsiveness. He gave me the painting. He didn't give me the roofing. He never gave me the roofing and siding. I changed a bit on that but siding was not applicable. He never gave me a quote on 2 areas. I have a complete pricing on him. He was a nice guy, when he came over, he was a nice guy. That was fine, he was good. He knew what he was talking about and stuff. His problems are in communications and following through. He doesn't do well in customer support or customer communications. The pricing is incomplete. I would not use him, no, because when you are doing a project, if you can't communicate with the people who is the first person in charge of the project then that's bad. I want somebody I can get a hold of to talk to about my concerns if there is something that I don't understand or don't like. I want to be able to talk to him. If I can't talk to him then they don't get anything from me.
Description of Work: He gave the quote around the 27th of April. He gave me the quote for gutters, he gave me the paint, he gave me the deck work and he gave me the windows.

I called David Friday morning and he was at my house before noon. He repaired the loose piece of siding and checked all the other pieces to make sure they were all attached on both sides of the house. He also took the time to explain a question I had about shingles on the roof. I am very impressed that he came to my house that quickly and gave me a great price since I was a member of Angie's List.

Had a leaking fireplace. E-mailed through webpage evening of the leak. David was able to stop by the next evening. Immediately offered and performed a temporary fix (good for about a year) and recommended a larger, but reasonably priced permanent fix. I really enjoyed this interaction and am very hopeful that future work with David will be just as great. It's hard to find quality workmanship in Huntsville. I'm hoping these guys will get to become my go to company. So far so good. :D

- Monday, 2 June (1251): I called and spoke to Mr. Francis. I explained the problem and the concern I had with this turning into a water issue and that I would be out of town next week. After asking how high my roof was and asking if he needed a thirty foot ladder (I told him that he would need at least that since I had a two story house and the damage was at the highest point), we made an appointment for 1400 the next day. - Tuesday, 3 June: My wife left my father, who is battling cancer, at the medical facility to meet the contractor at the house. When the contractor arrived, he stated that he had not brought a ladder and the house was too high for him to do the work. He spoke some nonsense about looking at a satellite image to judge the height of my house rather than going by the information I had given. He stated that he would be back that night or the next morning. My wife waited all the next morning and no one showed or called. - Wednesday, 4 June (1352): I called and spoke again to Mr. Francis who apologized and said he would get someone out today. No one ever showed or called. In fact, no one showed or called Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Finally received a call Sunday afternoon stating that he was looking at another job in my area and that he could come by and look at the roof but, again, he had no ladder. If my roof had not suffered additional damage from a storm on Thursday when it could have been prevented by the contractor meeting his obligation, I would almost find it humorous that (twice!) a roofing contractor came to a job without a ladder.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing except make appointments that he did not meet, except for one - in which he came without a ladder and said he could not do the work since he did not have one. Please see the details:

Bought a big deal to have the roof inspected as I had seen a gap around flashing on the stove exhaust while looking up the attic ladder. He came on time and inspected the room, fixed a couple of blown up shingles and repaired the gap. David was very nice and told me that the roof was in very good shape, which eased my worries. We discussed possible other projects that I will be getting bids on.

Francis came out within 2 days looked at the roof and the inside where the mold had grown. He had given me a couple ways to go and decided to fix the bad parts and reshingle. as they took the shingles off there were nail heads all over the place and little to no tar paper. But to everyones surprise were TWO large holes in the roof and a rotten spot about half way up. David stated that there was no way any roofer worth their salt would have left the roof in that state of damage. And there was no way that Micheal came out and REPAIRED it. David Francis went above and beyond to repair my roof correctly and was very polite and helpful. I would and Have Recommended his company to people and I go to a Church with 3500 people who I will talk up and Recommend his Company.
Description of Work: Had another company reroof my house and off garage. my carport leaked and had to fix it. About a year later noticed my garage roof leaking and called the original roofer and he refused to come and look. (CCD Roofing and Const.). Any how the leak was so bad that when it rained it would fill a 32 quart trash can and then some. Angies List to the rescue. took a chance on Cobalt Roofing. David

John removed our old siding, applied the new Hardie board, aluminum trim and started painting. The house only had one coat of watered down paint. To date, the tape is still on the windows where it was taped and never completed. Trim was not painted, siding had issues with the application and the aluminum trim was not even close to being done correctly. We addressed these issues with David multiple times over the last year and a half. Promises were made to correct the problems, but nothing was ever done. We hired John Scoggins to complete additional remodeling work while he was at our home completing the Cobalt bid. We feel this started our problems. David took offense to John accepting additional work, when the original contract was with Cobalt. David later told us during one of our many conversations that he did not have any employees of his own. He contracted all of his work with whoever he could get and he takes a profit off the top for finding the job. John had his own employees which he was paying their salary and compensation. David was not paying his employees. David and John had several heated discussions and we were caught in the middle. John kept leaving and working on other jobs and left ours incomplete. He hired help from craigslist and could not keep them on the job. We had several items stolen while multiple workers were coming and going. We feel if John had stayed on our project and managed his crew things might have gone differently. When we complained with David, he wanted us to go back on John, although our original contract was with David and Cobalt. The end results left us with an incomplete project, that we paid Cobalt for. The original siding color is showing through the paint, the trim was never painted and the aluminum trim has to be removed because it was installed so poorly. The roof leaked in two places and we had to hire another company to repair it. Cobalt advertises a great deal and looks to have many beautiful completed projects. We believe everyone can have a good or a bad experience. After trying to resolve our issues for over a 1 1/2 yr period, we have had to contract with another company and pay to have the entire home repainted and the trim replaced. It is unfortunate. We have tried so many times to work this out with David, and have nothing against him personally. He is a very nice person and we feel he tries to please his customers. But when he contracts your job out and gets in a dispute with that contractor, it leaves the customer holding the bag. We paid David in full and did not get what we paid for. We feel he was not as professional as he could have been in resolving all of this. He did make attempts to have John correct the problems, but never followed up to ensure the work was completed or the customer was satisfied. We hate to leave negative results. We like David and John. It is unfortunate we had a bad experience and were not successful in resolving it. The additional delays in completion and the duplication in cost of the project has taken a toll. We had elected not to provide a review for so long, in hopes of David trying to make things right. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that will ever happen. Hopefully if you use Cobalt, you will have a better experience. ,
Description of Work: We received bids to reside our home with Hardie Board siding, paint the home and trim with two coats, apply aluminum trim over existing cedar trim and add new roofing to two small additions. We had a bid of $30,000 for the siding, paint and trim. David Frances with Cobalt said he would do the job for $25,000. We added the roofing, which added an additional $10,000. We contracted with David Frances with Cobalt. He hired John Scoggins to do the work on our home. At the time, we did not know John was not a Cobalt employee.

I did not respond, initially, because I don't enjoy this. I want to believe that everyone means well. Its been so long that perhaps the customer did not remember. I billed her cost plus, I only billed what was done and for material... I kept very good records because She continued to add things not discussed. After my job was completed I gave my subs permission to work for her, Although I warned them to put everything in writing. Customer called me a year letter asked for my help, I went to her home and looked at the job and I talked to the sub contractors. According to the sub she would not pay them and they lost money because all the change orders... I don't recommend anyone try to GC their own job, because I can save a customer on supplies and labor. Importantly, I do not pay anyone until the job is done right. My mistakes have taught me to check and verify. If the wrong material gets delivered to the job its my fault, if a water line is broke i have to fix it,,, if the plumbing is not up to code, if the historic counsel will not approve the job its my responsibility . I owe everything I have to my customers.. if I get a call at 3 am I'll be there, yet I do things the best way I know how to limit warranty work.

I had contacted Cobalt Construction the previous day requesting an estimate for some roofing work to be done, and David Francis (the owner) was there the very next day to examine my house. After checking out my roof, David explained to me all of my options and the associated costs, he even pointed out a option that I had not considered - but would save me a decent amount of money. Although I didn't have any work done this time around, I would not hesitate to call Cobalt up to handle any roofing jobs that I required.

I had a bad roof leak that got worse fast and called Cobalt because they are near my house. I got immediate response from Sherrie who called one of her crews off another job to install my tarps the same day before we had a bad storm front move in. I had gone out for estimates to some other roofers but went with Cobalt due to the immediate and friendly personal service I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend to my neighbors and friends.

It went very well. They showed up on time and worked hard and were very nice. They were extremely careful to pick up every single piece of scrap construction stuff from our yard. You couldn't even tell they had been there afterwards which was very nice. The roof looked great when it was done. The only negative is that now that we're selling our house, during the inspection it came up that they never flashed the chimney and now we have water damage from what was leaking down the chimney. So, I guess if you use them, make sure they do that! Other than that, the experience was very pleasant.
