Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Used them twice in one week. Had an incident at one of my houses where a pipe burst. Roto Rooter responded quickly (after hours) and did not charge a lot to fix the problem. (I was pleasantly surprised). Then, a few days later, I came to my other house and the water heater was leaking. They came quickly and assessed the problem. They told me it needed to be replaced. They would have replaced it that day but I had an appt. So, they turned it off and came first thing the next morning. The techs were knowledgeable and courteous. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Thanks for the heads up on Rotor Rooter. I called one morning to check on availability, they had a tech close by. He came out completed the inspection and suggested what services were needed. We got it all done that day!!!!Great service very efficient. The technician was very courteous and explained what and why as he worked. Great to have good customer service skills.

My septic tank was full and waste water was starting to build up within the main drain line. Called Roto-Rooter and they were very diligent to ensure dispatch promptly called me back to schedule an appointment for the very next morning. Yae called me prior to arriving and was able to quickly get my septic tank emptied. He also went above and beyond with some recommendations for the system and helped me understand the system holistically. Highly recommend Yae and his candidness/positive projection. I had a completely clogged main drain line. Called RR and they were on the job within 2 hours and successfully removed a bundle of roots that cleared the drain. I was most impressed with their professionalism and most importantly their very quick response. I would definitely recommend RR for the work they did for me.

Rep found the leak quickly, made a recommendation on how to fix it and gave me a price. An hour or two later it was fixed and the area cleaned up. Excellent service from a competent worker.

Well when the receptionist called we Where going to cancel amd she explained that they give free estimates. The tech would come out access the problem and then give an estimate of the job. We can then decide if we want to use their services. When the tech accessed the job we felt like it was to expensive and where told for the 20 minutes would cost us $84.00. We explained that we where told a free estimate would be given. When we called customer service a differ CS rep told us that it is up to the tech on what they charge. Not happy with that fas we felt like we where duped

Victor from Roto Rooter came out to the house on Monday October 23rd, 2017. After inspection, he showed me where the previous tenants I had in the house had damaged the flange and that it needed to be replaced. He showed me where it was cracked in several places. It was close to 6pm so he was unable to get the parts to fix it. He told me he would try to fit me back in on Wednesday - but it might be Thursday. He ended up coming at 545pm on Wed and had it fixed by 730pm. He was completely professional, knowledgeable, and prompt. Not only will I be using Roto Rooter for all my plumbing needs - but I will be requesting Victor as my technician

Perfect. Called them up, had a guy on site in 20 minutes, he was done in a half hour. He dropped a line in through the vent in the roof and chewed up the clog. Problem solved. I still can't believe how prompt they were. Very courteous also.

My spouse handled the visit for a two toilet that are being flushed twice and one time overflowed.  REsolved the problem for two weeks with RID-X like product.  The line seems to be the problem.  The Roto Rooter Team saw no problem with line.  Made no suggestion to clear the line.  Therefore, No action taken. 

No adjusting flush water on toilet to aid in flushing.  Walked around outside and  did not see a vent pipe/clean spout thing.  Inspected a dripping facet at sink.  Told to replace.  Replace lines to facet.  Again no action taken.  Just advice.

For $120 dollars was told to replace both the original 1980 toilets and dripping facet.  Was told the line was clear.  (I don't belive it - since toilet aids resolved problem for both toilets for one month.  Told no clearing of the lines will be needed. Toilets are our problem.   My spouse paid them for advice.  I talked to the office the next day.  No discounts will be applied for a return visit to repair/fix problems.  Go tho the web site and get coupons.

Sometimes, they would have to come back. It took them a long time to get to the problem. They could have solved it in the beginning but it took a long time for it to be solved. We're not unhappy with them.

Had a backed up drain in our upstairs bathroom. Called on Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Got a call back from the Technician within 30min and was at or house within 2hrs. The technician was polite and professional. Had the clog removed within 15min. Would certainly use Roto Rooter again!!

I called Rotorooter after George Plumbing charged me $393 not to fix my problem. Two guys spent all day and broke a head on their mechanical snake without finding the problem. They were supposed to bring a camera and they did not. They said it would be a major expense to fix a broken pipe under my house. After paying them for a drain that was functional but not fixed I did not call them back three weeks later when it clogged again. Bruce #91 at Rotorooter came out (with a camera) and found the break and was able to replace the bad pipe for $375. It works perfectly now. He was knowledgable and efficient. He said that a root had pushed up the pipe and it had broken. I try to support local businesses, but I cannot afford $393 for a 3 week fix and wrong information. I will never call anyone but Rotorooter again.

Bruce is extra-super professional. We called to repair a leaky faucet and unknown other moisture problems. He assessed the whole job ahead of time, and came up with a sensible procedure so that we minimized our down time without water, and he did all the in-house work at one time (only one trip to the crawlspace to evaluate his work and check for other issues). We paid less, and were done faster, than I expected for such an open- ended job. We've always been happy with Roto-Rooter; Bruce is the cream of a good crop of technicians!

they came out within 45 minutes and told me to get a dehumidifier at Lowes and I've been soaking up water ever since. If they had not come out in a timely way it would have been so much worse. They found the leak in 5 minutes and were able to fix it very quickly. There were 3 of them and and it was really hot that day and they were so pleasant and the fact that they came so quickly and it wasn't horribly expensive was such nice surprise, especially on a weekend.

It was a reasonable cost. They did it the same day. They are a little bit pricey and I think their quality of work is good. They are very professional.

The job was to start Monday morning, 7/6/15.  At 8:40, I went to Roto Rooter because of no-show.  The secretary said they were getting parts & would be there at 9:00.  I got back & there they were.  Jack, the older Master Plumber, had to brief the journeyman plumber on the job.  At 10:00 they left to get parts.  I didn't understand showing up without parts.  When I discussed the job with Jack, he said he was not going to re-pipe the tub or shower (2 separate fixtures).  I said the quote called for new Pex to every fixture.  (The quote, $1,700.00, was for total re-pipe plus $400.00 for 2 new valves for tub & shower.  I declined the new valves.)  Jack said he needed $50.00 more for parts for the tub & shower.  To get the job going, I agreed to & had him put it in writing.  He said this would be a one day job.

The younger plumber returned at 11:00 with parts.  Jack went to Tennessee for another job.  At first I thought it was a bait & switch but Jack returned later that day.  They worked until 8:00 pm to complete the job.  The next day (Tuesday), I went to the house to inspect.  The tenants said Jack returned that morning to install something in bathroom.  They were told inspection would be done Wednesday.  I spoke to Jack who said he installed an expansion device in the toilet & confirmed inspection the next day.  I flushed the water heater (WH) because hot water was still discolored.  However, the WH valve leaked slightly afterwards.

Early Wednesday, the tenants called & said they'd shut off the toilet because it was gushing.  I called Jack & we met at the house.  The problem: the City requires an expansion device.  An expansion tank is usually installed.  The cheapest solution is a toilet expansion valve.  The only one on the market is "Watts GOV80M2", available at Amazon for $16.00.  Jack had installed that (something anyone can install -- why would a master plumber install it?)  Anyway, Jack said the Watts' valve was defective.  He tried but couldn't fix it.  He said an expansion device was really not necessary & his plan was leave it on, get the inspection & then install a regular valve afterward.  I opposed the idea.  I brought up the subject of water pressure (just a hunch).  I asked if he knew whether we had a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV).  Jack said yes because they were required by code.  I said I thought it was required only if pressure from the meter was over a certain PSI.  Nope, says Jack.  (More about that later.)

I explained the lav faucet wouldn't work since the Pex was installed.  It had worked before but not now.  He said the faucet's screen was clogged & he couldn't remove it due to age (I witnessed him trying).  During our conversation, I brought up a shower drain leak, the leaking WH valve and a 3/4" nut on the 1/2" iron pipe tub spout that needed to be removed.  I asked for a quote the work.  He quoted a price of $228.00 to tighten the shower drain, replace the WH O-ring & remove the nut from the spout pipe.  I agreed to the price.

Jack left & returned to reinstall a new toilet fill valve.  He fixed the O-ring and I just assumed he removed the pipe nut.  While he was gone, the tenant was able to remove the faucet screen but it still didn't work.  So then Jack tried cleaning the valves but it still wouldn't work.  So I ordered a new faucet (from Amazon) & said I'd replace when it arrived Friday.  The inspector came but would not release the job without hammer arresters on every appliance (ice maker, washer and dishwasher).  Jack came back later that day & installed hammer arresters everywhere but the washer's hot line.

The inspector returned Thursday am & said the lav faucet & tub spout were now holding up the job.  I didn't realize the faucet & spout would hold up the inspection.  I told the inspector I'd install those on Friday when they were delivered.  Jack wanted to be paid then, saying the only issue was the faucet & spout & those didn't involve him.  He asked me for $1,998.00 saying their portion was done.  I replied when the job passed inspection, the money would be paid.  He said he'd tell his boss.  Uh, OK...

I went home and pulled out the original quote & confirmed $1,700.00 was for ALL FIXTURES.  So the extra $50.00 became a concern, along with several other things: 1) no hammer arrester on the clothes washer hot line, 2) no paperwork defining the extra work, 3) no expansion device installed (Jack replaced the toilet fill valve and I thought it wasn't an expansion device).  Via email, I told Roto Rooter about my concerns (I wanted to start documenting everything).  While writing the email, the tenants called and said their toilet was off again because it was gushing!  So I included concern #4, the gushing, newly fixed toilet.  Roto Rooter called within 2 hours after receiving the email.  Their general manager, Terry, wanted to talk to me.

Terry, Jack & I all met at the house on Thursday afternoon.  I was informed they'd measured water pressure and it was 85 PSI, (the maximum allowed is 80 PSI, so we were 5 PSI over).  This was why both toilet valves had started gushing.  They said I needed a PRV to fix the problem. (Jack insisted I had a PRV the day before.).  I asked why they didn't just put on a regular expansion tank?  Their response?  No room for one.  But I know a tank can be installed on the cold main anywhere before the WH (under the house).  Terry said he'd put on a new PRV at his cost.  I agreed simply to get the job done.

Terry said he wasn't going to "quibble" over $50.00.  There was no "quibble" because the quote was for all fixtures; $50.00 was overcharge.  He said he'd let the $50.00 "slide".  My opinion is there was no "slide" or "quibble", only our original quote!  Then we discussed the missing hammer arrester.  They hadn't installed one on the hot because the tenant hadn't hooked up the hot.  Because it wasn't being used, they didn't install.  I explained the situation: the tenant was using a portable washer but planned on buying a full size soon.  She'd hook up the hot then so a hammer arrester was needed.  They agreed to put one on.   Again, they wanted their money.  I said I owed $1,928.00 ($1,700.00 for re-pipe, $228.00 for extra work) + the cost for the new PRV.  They agreed to the amount.  Again, I said once the job passed inspection, they would get paid.

On Friday the PRV was installed & the toilet finally quit gushing.  The cost was $38.00.  Friday night, the tenant installed the new lav faucet (Amazon shipped to her).  She called & said the new faucet worked for 5 seconds & then quit.  So she took off the risers & they were full of ROCKS AND DEBRIS.  She said she'd clean them out Saturday because it was getting too late.  I told her not to because I'd paid for all the galvanized to be replaced.  I thought debris could NOT be in brand new pipes & this told me that there must still be galvanized somewhere in the system.  I told her Monday morning I'd call Roto Rooter again.

During the initial inspection, Jack had told me the inspector chose not to crawl under the house.  I realized that this would now be required.  Monday morning, I called the inspector & reported the rocks & debris situation.  I said I wanted every inch of the pipe inspected because there must still be galvanized somewhere.  He said to contact the plumber & we'd all
