"I just finished building a house for my family, and ther was a particular cabinet maker I wanted to use because he was the best I had ever seen. I called him and set an appointment for an estimate. When he didn't arrive on schedule, I called him, but got no answer. I could not get in touch with him for over a week. Finally I went to his shop, and found out that he had lost his cell phone and my contact information. He apologised, set up a new appointment, and ultimately built my cabinets. They were beautiful beyond expectations, and he was a pleasure to work with. I was so glad that I persued him after our initial missed connection, rather than letting my pride stand between me and what i really wanted. I recieved 1 phone call from this customer. I lost his contact information before I could call him back. I am not making excuses, or trying to dodge blame, I lost his number. At that point ther was nothing I could do but wait. He never called me back. not That I blame him, but if you really want something, maybe its worth a second call to find out what happened."
Planet hardwood does very high quality work. The floor is extremely nice looking. Mike (the owner) encouraged us to go with a lighter color than we originally planned and he was absolutely correct in his assessment. They placed a darker inlay in the dining room of our home that required a lot of work and looks fantastic. We have three dogs that damaged the original floor (lower quality) with their paws; the new floor, after three months, is much more durable and doesn?t display any damage. All the employees were friendly and helpful.
The only negatives are that Planet Hardwood is extremely busy and can be a little unresponsive to questions and concerns. Mike could also listen better to what customers have to say. We would have appreciated them starting when they first said they would start so that they could have been done when expected, but we are so happy with the work that we are willing to forgive that lapse.
Overall, we are extremely pleased with Planet Hardwood and will use them again if we ever need wood flooring installed. I would also recommend them to anybody else who needs wood flooring.
If you are looking to get flooring installed, I would recommend asking for the written estimate that is given to you to list the estimated square footage to be installed and the price rate for that square footage. I was thrown off when the bill was due, because I thought the installation price was at a different rate than it really was. I would have gone with another installer if I knew the installation rate, simply because I had others quote a lower rate per square foot. Regardless I thought the quality of the installation was great. Whatever I noticed wrong with the floor (minor things) was fixed quickly.
"Yes, i missed an appointment for an estimate. And I apologised for it. And I meant it. But seriously,… Who is this guy?! and on what pedestal has he planted himself?! I «offered an excuse»? I wasnt offering any excuse. he asked where i was and i told him the truth. I offered him my opology that i was detained, and further apologized for not calling him. (that must be the «little apology» he mentioned) I am not perfect, and am running a small company singlehandedly. All It takes is for a few things on my tightly packed schedule to happen in the wrong order and something falls through the cracks. But what kind of person are you to then publicly flog someone for it even after they apologized for the blunder? And what is all the nonsense about a photo of a house on my website? If I have a website, I would love for someone to send me the address to it so that i can go and see this photo he is talking about. He asked me about the business adress that I have listed and I told him,… (and I quote) « we purchased the property reciently, but are still in the process of remodeling it, and so the site is not open yet.» but again,… seriously,…. Who does he think he is?! I don’t owe him, or anyone else an explaination of what I am using my building for. And just for the record, we do «work out of this site» (as his accusation denies) we just are not open to the public yet. One thing that I did not do was offer to reschedule the missed appointment. in spite of my apology, and explaination of why our showroom was not open yet, his person was rude, confrontational, and nasty to me. At that moment all i could think of was how relieved I was to find out before I had become more involved with him. another thing that you (angies list members) are missing, are some of the details of the post that you don’t get to see, but I do. He made a particular point to announce that he is a Doctor. must be used to a lot of luxury service which explains his senseless anger at the fact that he «could not even find a sign». It just screams of entitlement! i somehow wronged him by «not working out of the site» apparently, I not only missed our appointment, but i also forgot to call him and get his approval on my other business practices as well. I think the only «flimsy excuse» here is his of being a human being. Folks, I’m not pretending to be something I’m not. I make mistakes just like everyone else. And when I do, I admit it and i do the best i can to make it right. And I am not trying to follow any corporate response protocol, or any kind of guideline of political correctness. I respond to these reviews honestly because I believe it makes everything easier if you get to know me and who I am before I arive at your doorstep. the best compliment i ever got was a recient customer who told me she read all the reviews that I replied to, and that i was exactly like what she immagined i would be. The bottom line is all about what you want. what is the most important thing to you. If you want the best quality job, done by the best quality craftsmen in the industry, then you are going to be dealing with a small company, or an individual. And you are going to have to be a little bit flexible. If your main focus is to be pampered and have your ego polished and be treated like the queen of your world, than a big box, high production company is where you should go. You will get exactly what you want. And I am not just spouting off theories. I have been on both sides of this fence for quite a while. We have been building a house and have been using only the industries best subcontractors. And I have had to be very flexible, and sometimes a bit forgiving, But I am getting exactly what i want. And I highly reccomend it."
