The final thing he did was seal the granite. As he began to seal it I told him that the counter was still dusty and needed to be cleaned before sealing. He said that was fine and it would disappear when he applied the spray sealer.
After a discussion about what we would pay him, my husband refused to pay the entire bill. Chuck became very angry.
Before he left, I checked the sink that he had re-installed and I informed Chuck that the sink was still leaking. He checked it and said it was because our faucet was broken and he was not responsible for that. He installed the faucet. It was not broken before installation. As soon as he left, I noticed that the dust and swirl marks on the granite countertop did not disappear, they are sealed into the granite. My husband went straight to the bank to stop payment on his check, but he beat us to the bank and the check cleared.
I had to call a plumber who thankfully was able to come the next day. The plumbing for the sink is not to code, the faucet has to be replaced and the pipes are leaking in three places. The faucet was missing parts. The dishwasher backed up into the sink and the disposal backed up into the other side of the sink. The plumber told me not to use the dishwasher until he could get back to fix it because of the danger of contamination due to the improper installation of the drains.
"We anticipated our relationship with the Horton’s to be very pleasant. We made it no secret that we have many jobs scheduled and that the jobs are handled in the order of the sign date. In addition, we have a sign posted that cancellation of a contract forfeits the deposit. This is because, especially for granite jobs, we are out money when the granite has been delivered to our granite shop and, especially, if we have already begun fabrication. When Mrs. [Member Name Removed] decided that she wanted to cancel contract because she did not want to wait I told her that we already had started work on the granite and could not refund her. I subsequently offered to expedite her job and she agreed to follow through with the contract. After we fit her in between working two large jobs, we started installation of the tile that she purchased. The labor was not the problem. The tile that Mrs. [Member Name Removed] purchased for backsplash was hand-made glass. The pieces were not the same size and were not perfectly square, as it is with most hand-made tiles. We used double the number of spacers to ensure uniformity and straight lines, and informed her that the glass tiles were irregular. She did not disapprove at that time. The backsplash design over the stove was first laid out by the tile supplier but Mrs. [Member Name Removed] did not like the layout because it was “too large.” She then laid out a design she liked better and asked me to install that instead. We discussed the potential difficulties with fitting it properly before I continued with installation. After all the tile was installed, Mrs. [Member Name Removed] decided she did not like the design over the stove and would like to go with something else. She asked me to remove that entire section so I cut that section out per her instructions. Every sink comes with a template for granite fabricators to use as a guide for cutting the opening in countertop (in this case, granite). The Horton’s were not happy with the way it fit or looked so they asked us to take the sink out and make a custom cut to their liking. We therefore removed the sink, made the cut on the job site, and reinstalled. After installing the faucet, it leaked at one location so I repaired it. As for sealing the granite, the tops were washed three times before sealing. After application of sealant, if someone wipes it down before it cures, this may ruin the finish. We have sealed granite many, many times in twenty years and have never had an issue with this. We have pleased many, many customers over the years, but we know we can’t please everybody. It is disheartening to have someone unhappy like this!"

"First of all the job was $10,307.74 not $19,000 like the customer stated. First of all as the customer stated it took a few days to get the payment posted due to a fraud alert on the customers credit card. When the payment posted we ordered the stone it took a few days for the stone to come in. The reason we dont order the stone til the customer pays for it because we have to pay for it when it is delievered. Also once the stone is cut there is no returning it!! For example after the stone was delievered and we started cutting it the customer called and asked if it's to late to change the stone. Once the stone was delievered we started to cut the stone but couldn't finish all the cutting due to the customers appilances was not in yet and we needed the measurements. Which the customer ordered their own appilances that was another delay. As for the cost of the stone we charged the same price that we was charged for the stone and delievery. We sent the customer to the same place we send all of our customers they were free to go any place they wanted it was mearly a suggestion. But due to them ordering the tile from a different company it took long for the tile to come in which was no fault of our own. Which also prelonged the job. In no way did Chuck or If It's wood LLC.. try to milk anyone out of money!!They were interested in using the left over stone for the bathroom counters. It would have been easier to leave the stone with us til they was ready to do the bathrooms that way the stone only had to be moved once. As for the 30 days and it's ours we could have worked around that we have a customer stone now that we have had since June waiting on him to use it for his bathroom. So that statement is false!!! There was no mess left in the carport the last day our employees were there they even sprayed the carport off!!! For the comment our first thing in the morning is noon the customer was aware our employees don't come in til 8am we still had to load the truck and drive an hour to get there. For the comment about measuring other rooms not asked to do the customer had stated they wanted to use the remainer of the stone to redo the bathroom vanities. So we measured them so we would have the measurement when they were ready to do the job. The we get a e-mail saying DO NOT COME BACK TO OUR HOME!!! How do you respond to that. We are sorry that the customer was unhappy but the delays they continue to complain about was due to several things on the customers behalf. Waiting on the credit card to go thru, waiting on the appliances to come in, and also waiting on the tile."
