Friday morning, the heat pump had died. Gerald called to discuss our options. I impressed on him that the situation was somewhat urgent because I was scheduled to be out of state from Wed 1/23 thru Mon 1/28. That afternoon he came to the house with 4 quotes, one repair at almost $4000, and 3 levels of replacement. 1 Broan and 2 levels of Trane. I elected for the top level Trane, which would include replacing the attic evaporator unit as well, running new Freon lines, and sealing the ductwork. They were already fully scheduled for Saturday and Monday, but could do the job on Tuesday 1/22. He provided a space heater to get me through until Tuesday.
Monday Gerald called to confirm that the job would, in fact, be done on Tuesday.
Tuesday 1/22 the crew arrived at 8:45 and were gone by 4:15. They were exceptionally efficient and pleasant, and left the place spotless. Cost: $7820.00, as quoted. Gerald called again after 5 to find out how everything went.
The new system is a major improvement over the old, which was very efficient but always pretty noisy. With the new system I barely notice when the heat cycles on and off and have to listen closely to even tell if it is running or not! Time will tell if it is any more energy efficient than the old one.

"We at Valley are sorry that you had an unpleasant experience using our company. We strive to take care of all our clients. We reviewed the file and found we replaced a motor in 12/20/10 for your American Standard System. It took two months for the part to arrive. We were called again in 7/20/11 for the control board malfunction. This problem was a seperate component. It is true that the parts did take an exessive amount of time but price and availability of parts are beyond our control. Valley Heating and Cooling does not charge for work until it is completed. We have intentions of completing tasks/jobs as soon as possible. Again, I am sorry; we should have done a better job of addressing this issue, and we will use this experience to promote better communication between our techs and our customers."
