We haven't checked Angie's List in awhile so I regret that we could not address this sooner, but I did want to offer a few explanations, and you are welcome to get in touch with us if you feel like there is something we can do for you. Of course, it's our mistake that we did not end up getting in touch with you that final time, and I am so sorry about that. I'm sure it was an oversight in our scheduling since we are a small office operation, but it's absolutely our fault. Please know that we would not have minded if you had given us another call, but I know you don't just have the time to continually pursue us. As far as our workers not coming on time, I hope you understand that we go to many jobs throughout the day, and that the best we can do is have an approximate time that we will be at your house. Still, I know it can be frustrating. For any excessive mess that our workers made, that is unacceptable and we always hope to hear about it so that we can correct it. We do use subcontractors, and that is simply because many people prefer to work that way. A lot of our subcontractors are former, long-time hourly employees of ours, and have since wanted some more freedom in their scheduling. I guess the main thing I want to address is the stain and mess left. On the proposal we provide to each potential customer, prior to agreeing to do the work, we always include a disclaimer about touch-up painting and cleaning after our work is performed. It says that there may be touch-up painting and cleaning necessary after the job, but that we do not include that in our proposals or price, so if any painting done after we left, you did not pay for it but not receive it. The logic there is that we simply cannot do our jobs without making some mess, which we try to keep to a minimum. It's just a hazard of the job and the fact that at its root, it's just messy work! We aren't cleaners or painters, so we'd rather keep the cost of those things out of the work that we do and leave it up to you. That way, if it is necessary, you can choose to do it yourself or get a professional, but if it's not necessary (i.e. we didn't make any mess whatsoever), it won't have been included in our price as potential overhead. I hope that explains why what may have happened with the stain on your baseboards, etc. but it certainly does not excuse our lack of communication about it. We absolutely apologize that you had a frustrating time with the scheduling of our work. If there is something we need to rectify further, please let us know. Thanks for your review, Katherine"

The contract started off with an estimate which was provided in a neatly typed letter that was scanned and sent by e-mail. All the clauses of the contracts were visible upfront including the separate charges for the cleanup.
Once I agreed on the price and terms, the material was delivered for and quot;curingand quot; and lay in the house for a couple of days to acclimatize. The work was started soon after by two contractors who were well-spoken and mild-mannered. The only negative was the smoking. They provided a lot of information about the leveling of the floor they had to do and the way they would have to fix some creaking noises in the loft area etc.
The job took a little longer (1/2 day) than expected, but that also meant the job was being done very meticulously. Did have some marks on the newly painted walls that were made during the service being rendered.
After the final inspection when the work was accepted by us, we discussed the payment which they wanted us to do as a check. I was not aware that they would not take a credit card payment and I mentioned this to them.
Highlights:

Very experienced and detail oriented.
Installation staff were monitored for the work being performed.
They recommended that I get professional cleaning done by someone else while offering some basic cleaning by the installation crew.
Overall it was a very positive experience and I will recommend this business to everyone.

First, the owner came out and gave us an estimate. He came after work on his way home and was very professional. He explained what would need to be done and why. I was impressed. It took him awhile to write up the quote and provide it to me, but, they have been extremely busy. Due to the latter, they were also not sure of when they could get to the job. Thankfully, a spot opened up. They called and asked for permission to do the job and started it. Prior to coming over at any time, they always called, which I found very helpful and professional. Then, over the span of a week, they sanded (2 days) and replaced boards, stained (1 day), and polyurathaned the floor twice (3 days with 1 day of dry inbetween). They vaccummed/swept up their mess when the job was complete. . They moved furniture out of the room prior to starting the job, and moved it back in afterwards. They were careful to cover items in the den with plastic before starting the sanding. The one thing that I wish had been more clear is how long the process would take, and some of the other details, such as not being able to put the carpet/rug back down on the polyurathane for 48 hours to a week instead of 24 hours later like the other furniture. There seemed to be some breakdown in communication there. But otherwise, I was happy with all that was done.

They did a great job. I was hoping that they floors would have a little more shine than what they have but the stain looks great. I had them lay hardwoods in the entry way and it matched great to the existing hardwoods.

The floors looked beautiful. They do have older equipment and there were some areas that were rough. When I asked them to redo those areas, they were happy to do that. I had a good experience with them as they were anxious to please. Although I had to have them redo some areas, I was happy with the end result. That part was excellent.

I spoke to them over the phone. They came out to give me a quote. They were expensive. They quoted $14,000 for everything I thought needed to be done. I found someone else who did it for $9000. I will probably not use them in the future.

The floors turned out absolutely beautiful with a lovely satin finish. Care of floors immediately following the refinish and installation was clearly detailed. The new floor placed in the MBR was done by a contractor in advance of the refinish work but the hard part was performed by employees who appeared very knowledgeable and tireless workers. They did lots of work by hand and the larger expanses with multiple machines. Dustless in not really "dustless" so be prepared. There was some accidental damage to my refrigerator when attempting to move it (the freezer drawer lost some ball bearings from the slide..it could've happened to anyone including myself). This was corrected as quickly as possible. The new flooring installed in the MBR and stair landing and new steps PERFECTLY matched the existing flooring that was 10 years old. Repair to a water damaged area is undetectable. Charles Ross and his employees are professional and hard working. His wife was also a very nice person to deal with. I would use them again and would recommend them. I picked them because of the high reliance on their own employees work, reference checks with honest feedback, response to my questions exhibited sound experience and knowledge, price, and professionalism. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I solicited quotes from 4 companies, with 3 ultimately quoting.

I would consider Acme to be very busy when I needed them to come out. Our communication wasn't all that great. I wound up having to call them multiple times before getting a call back. They were very professional when they were here and their price was very good. My house is 100 years old, so custom work had to be done. They did an excellent job under those circumstances. I recommended them to my friends.

When I needed the hardwood flooring refinished, I called Acme because I heard from a few people that they did very good work.
