The repair was successful and not as bad as I feared. I have called CET several times in recent years through AngiesList to do repairs. The electrician Tim arrived on time and carefully ran a few tests to determine the problem while describing to me what he was doing. It turned out to be a bad wall switch which he replaced with a new switch I had on hand. I will call CET again the next time I have an electrical problem.

Great service; CET confirmed appointment by text and technician called before arriving. Ceiling fan needed additional wiring run through attic for single dimmer and fan control that I could not have done myself. Everything is working great; will use CET again.

I called CET because of three previous well-done jobs at my house between 2012 and 2019 sourced through Angieslist.com. This visit was not through Angie's. I had to wait a week to get them. The electrician arrived on time and was professional in appearance and manner. He explained what he was doing and was thorough in tracing the problems to shorted wiring at a metal box in the attic, a damaged LED fixture, and faulty breaker. One line went to a three-way switch the other to a two-way switch. The electrician uncovered the box in insulation under the attic wood floor and neatly replaced the damaged wires and fixture. The repair took over two hours but I am glad for the electrician's thorough work to uncover the problems. I'm called a professional who did not leave to work another job; did not create collateral damage around the repair; and did not need to borrow my tools.

Great experience all around! I called them to have whole house surge protection installed on my house. Spoke to Gary who was very patient in explaining all the options and how things work. Even took time to chit chat with me. I asked for a surge protector model they don't typically use, no problem at all. The tech came right on time and installed the protectors quickly and professionally. He knew what he was doing and did the work while answering all my questions. Only after the tech had charged me and left my house did I realize that I had a coupon that I forgot to use. I called their office and Gary gave me the discount without hesitation. Thanks for a great job and great experience. I will definitely hire CET again!

This device protects everything in a home from sensitive electronics, to appliances, to the HVAC equipment from lightning and utility surges. They come with a lifetime replacement warranty and manufacturer's connected equipment warranty. They are quite simply the cheapest insurance a homeowner can purchase. They work and we highly recommend !"

The work performed by Certified Electrical was superb, but the logistics of scheduling and obtaining the correct parts were frustrating. When we first reached out for a quote, we had an extensive email exchange with Certified Electrical to make sure we had the correct parts for the electrician to replace the trim on our recess lights. We sent Certified Electrical pictures of the lights we wanted replaced and our contact at Certified Electrical even sent us a hyperlink to the exact trim that we needed to buy. However, when the electrician came to our house, he informed us that we did not have the correct trim and that we needed to buy new cans, as well. As a result, we had to pay for the electrician to come to our house twice. The second time the electrician came to our house, although he did not arrive in the designated arrival window, he did an exceptional job installing the cans, trim, and electrical outlets, as well as rewiring our outdoor lighting to bypass a motion sensor. Despite the logistical issues, we were very happy with the work performed and would consider using Certified Electrical again in the future.
Response from Certified Electrical Technologies
"Thank you for taking time to share your review. We are pleased to hear that you are satisfied with the outcome of the project. Prior to the project we tend to ask a lot of questions and answer all questions from our clients to ensure that we meet expectations and to ensure that when our tech shows up he is prepared as possible. Unfortunately until we actually arrive onsite sometimes not all info is known. Lighting parts are not generic and the recessed trims for one manufacturer generally do not fit on the housings for another manufacturer. Photos can be very helpful, but they cannot proved all of the info. 40 years of experience allows us to be correct the overwhelming majority of time, but not 100% and we adapt and adjust accordingly. Few other firms take the time to be as prepared as CET and typically show up completely unprepared for a project with the strategy that the less prepared they are, the more they can bill for the job. Our strategy is to be as prepared and efficient as possible to keep costs low. We look forward to your next project !"

Initially, it went fine. The technician arrived within the timeframe, and installed all products within a reasonable timeframe. The technician said the total time spent was 1 hour and 10 minutes. Since the company charges on a half hour basis, I was billed for 1.5 hours. That was fine. Unfortunately, the technician was not thorough. He did not ensure all smoke detectors were working properly with the wired connections. Only one of three was working properly (i.e. receiving power via the wired connection). A small green light was lit on the working wired smoke detector. This is something I missed when the technician was here, but I did hire an expert. When the technician came back, he connected a device to a non-powered smoke detector and confirmed that it was not receiving power. He went to the powered smoke detector and noticed a wire had been cut, probably when the original detector was installed. He re-wired the connection and all detectors are now running on power, He said he would charge based on a continuation from the previous job. The re-wiring and confirmation that all detectors were working properly took less than 20 minutes. The technician said I would be charged $65 plus parts. Needless to say, I was disappointed. If the technician was thorough during his initial visit, my only additional cost would have been parts.

"Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the delay in responding. It is obvious that your review is sincere, but factually incorrect likely due to a misunderstanding of the failure. We have reviewed the billing and found that the billing is correct and appropriate. The 2nd visit was billed as a continuation of the first visit which is a savings and it appears that an AL discount was applied as well. The failure was due to a nicked wire that likely happened during construction of the home and due to the operation of the Nest units (which all tested fine) was not apparent until after the Nest prescribed 24 hour break-in."

"Thanks for the great review and glad we found that you did not need a new service panel. Many other firms would have used the opportunity to sell a new panel, but we are hopelessly honest and would never use scare or sales tactics to try to "upsell" a project. Just fine. The technician arrived early within the agreed time frame and was courteous, professional and friendly. He took very little time to correct the problem and made sure everything worked. We have a very old house with an outdated original electrical system, and we will definitely have CET back for other problems as they arise, as they are familiar with old homes like ours (ca. 1911). Some of our problems cannot be solved without tearing out walls, apparently, but this one was quickly fixed!

What's the difference between a Hunter Fan and a chandelier? If you don't know then CET might be a good match. When I looked up Ceiling Fan Installation and saw the Deal for 10% off from Certified Electrical Technologies for a fan installation, I thought I would give them a try. When I called, I told them that I had a Hunter fan that needed to be re-installed and that it was a Hotel Original that had an oil bath lubrication system. When they said that they weren't familiar with oil bath fans, I should have said thank you and hung up the phone. If they are 'A' rated Ceiling Fan Installation experts on Angie's list, you shouldn't have to worry. Instead, it was a waste of $350 and the job still isn't done. A Hunter Hotel Original isn't something exotic. You can order them from Home Depot. After building a house with six Hunter Hotel Original fans (which I think are beautiful fans), I learned the hard way that you need to check the oil level every five years or so or else the motor will burn out (just like a car). I had to send one back to Texas to have it repaired and signed up for this Deal to have it re-installed. Having learned my lesson with the first fan, I also wanted them to check the lubrication on the other fans, replace the rotary control switches (some would only run the fans at high speed) and balance one of the fans. Although CET is advertised as a 'ceiling fan' expert, these other three tasks that you'd expect any ceiling fan installation expert to be familiar with. If CET only considers themselves to be an "electrical contractor" and shouldn't be expected to perform these tasks, then don't advertise in the "Ceiling Fan" category. Because I read that you can burn up a fan that requires a 2.0 amp switch if you install a 1.6 amp switch, I purchased 'Original Three-Speed Stepped Wall Controls' from Hunter so that they would be available. I asked if these were what was needed and he seemed to think they were all the same. When he was done, two of the three fans would only run at relatively high speeds (neither at a low speed of less than 2 rpm). Somehow they are less responsible because they are working with switches that I furnished. That would make sense if I was providing something from third party. But if Hunter only makes two versions of a stepped wall control (that isn't remote control or doesn't also control lights), it shouldn't seem like something exotic, especially if Hunter is telling you that those fans should only be connected to their brand of wall controls. The contractor (who was very polite) attempted to balance one fan and was forthcoming about his lack of specific expertise with the task. As for the oil, they wouldn't do that except on the fan that he installed (and wasn't certain if he did it correctly). So whom you should go to if you can't get someone who advertises on Angie's List as a ceiling fan installation expert to do it?
Response from Certified Electrical Technologies
"As we informed the subscriber before, at the time of service, and after the service, we are an electrical contracting firm that is highly experienced in the installation of ceiling fans. We are not, however, a factory-authorized ceiling fan repair firm. We also made it clear that anyone other than a factory-authorized tech who repairs a Hunter fan would void the fan's warranty. After informing the subscriber that we could not repair or lubricate his fans, he asked us to replace a fan and swap the wall speed control (that he provided) on two others. The fan installation went perfectly and the 2 customer supplied speed controls did not resolve the speed issues with the associated fans. The worked, but the speeds could not be fully controlled. From our perspective we did exactly what we represented that we could do prior to making the appointment. Unfortunately the subscriber, by his own admission after the appointment, had unrealistic expectations of our ability to repair his fans even though we informed him we could not repair them. We are disappointed at the poor review given that we did exactly what we said we would do, when we said we would do it, and for the price quoted. We do our best to manage expectations but when someone ignores what we tell them in terms of what to expect, unfortunately misunderstandings can occur. We knew the subscriber was not satisfied with the outcome of the service and we contacted him afterward to see if there was anything that we could do. It was agreed that given we are not factory-authorized to repair his fan we could not further resolve his issues. We did again recommend that he contact the local Hunter Fan factory-authorized firm to address the specific issues with his fans."

I called Certified Electrical Technologies on 5/23/18 and spoke to "Leia," who was helpful in setting up an appointment for the following week on Wed, May 30th between 9 AM - 1:00 PM. On the day of my service, I received a call from "Eric," their technician, to let me know he was on his way to my home; he arrived 10 minutes later. When Eric arrived, he quickly began removing the old ceiling fan in my dining-room, he answered all my questions and he replaced the new fan within an hour's time. He was professional and skilled in getting the job done. Good to have a reliable and reasonably priced electrician again. Stay with a winner and make them your electrician too!
