Jay and his crew are the guys for your job! They exceeded our expectations and then some. Jay was always responsive to all our communications via email, usually responding even after hours and on weekends. The guys that worked in our house were very respectful of our space and cleaned up very nicely after themselves. Not only did they do what we asked, but they also addressed an unrelated issue when working in our house. We hired them for basement remodeling, and they looked at our leaking bathroom vent. This team is amazing, no doubt about it!

Description of Work: Superior added new siding, shingles and seamless gutters in May 2013 to our then recently-purchased home. In addition Superior added a layer of weatherproofing to our outer walls and roof, and repaired/replaced areas of osb or framing as needed. Employees were prompt and professional, and the area around our home was clean at the end of the business day. The job was done within the scheduled time frame and on-budget. We recommend Superior Roofing.

Jay and his crew were amazing. He was recommended by a co-worker who does home inspections and general contracting. While inspecting the old roof, Jay pointed out problems with the prior roofing job. The Superior Roofing crews worked hard, cleaned up daily and used all required safety equipment. We had some fascia that needed to be replaced; since the home was build in 1931 the lumber was of non-standard dimensions. Jay milled the piece to our needs and the crews installed and painted it. The roof looks great and is performing well.
Description of Work: Complete tear off and reroof of multi-gabled house, replaced flashings, ridge vent and some trim.

Jay was very helpful in helping us select the shingles. He made several trips up to the porch roof so we could see the samples at a distance and against the brickwork. The job required replacing some trim. Since this is an old house the lumber needed was a non-standard size; Jay went the extra step and had the trim milled to size for us. The Superior Roofing employees were polite and hard working. I was pleased to see they used the required personal protective equipment. The site was cleaned up at the end of each day. Work started on schedule and wrapped up in 4 days. Overall, it was easy to work with Jay and his crew and we are pleased with the results.
Description of Work: We have a lovely 1930's 2 story home with multiple gables and were in need of a new roof. My co-workers manage a housing rehab loan program, so I checked with several of them for references for a roofer. Two of the contractors we called declined to bid because of the size of the job and the steep pitch of the roof. Superior Roofing was among the recommended contractors.

Working with Superior Roofing is like pulling splinters from your a** and genitals while walking on coals naked in the 9th circle of H*** while being run over repeatedly by a Ford F550. Jay, who does the work there from his scummy duplex in Plover/Point area and a PO Box, is the worst kind filthy scumbag contractor: he lies about his credentials, does horrible work, doesn't back any of it up, and evades you after he's been paid until you threaten legal action. Then, because he knows you are poor because he robbed you of all your money, he actually curses you out, dares you to get a lawyer, and tells you to and quot;have a nice day.and quot; Here are excerpts from my BBB Complaint from spring 2010: --- We spent $20,000 for work by Superior Roofing of Plover after pipes burst in our house and caused a large mold problem while we were away. Services included roofing, demo, mold remediation, and some other remodeling tasks. We live in [another state]. Jay was grossly negligent in his work, misrepresented himself as competent in mold removal of the house, and took advantage of us because we were so far away. We had to tear down the 'three-seasons' room that he applied a flat rubber roof to and remove/replace all basement insulation we paid him to put in as well as remove/replace all the studs of the entire basement, blue board and white board in the basement that we paid him to fix, but which he did not. Also, he was told to save certain furniture in the basement but it disappeared. The city of [omitted], after his work, put us on an immutable deadline of this August to complete the repairs on the house because the house is now in such disrepair. However, it’s very difficult for us to meet this deadline monetarily because $20,000 was already put into the house which, largely, was done so incorrectly that it must now be redone. On top of that, we will have to pay a mold inspection company $4000-$10,000 to perform mold testing (pre and post), remediation, and air scrubbing as well as a duct flush required by the city. His initial inspection revealed a mold count in the house of about six times what is considered acceptable for that area AFTER Jay’s ‘remediated’. All the bills and bids as well as the building permit all specifically state that Superior Roofing was to have removed any and all mold in the house; we have tried to contact Jay and SR ever since he completed his work a year ago (2009), but after receiving payment last year, he has refused to return phone calls and ignored requests for bills and assertions that work may have been done incorrectly. I have been trying to contact him since January for simple documentation in order to verify things and ask him some questions about the house; he returned none of my calls until May of 2010 when I threatened litigation after visually inspecting his work for the first time. I have been nothing but nice to this man and he consistently is condescending, vulgar, and combative. On several occasions he has lied and said he would supply me with the paperwork I have requested, but he never has to this day. And, in one profoundly unprofessional voicemai he yelled at me, and told me to and quot;Quit F*****' Buggin Me!and quot; and then hung up. I have always been very nice with him and calm and inoffensive because I wanted to avoid the courts and just get the job done. I offered to allow him to come back to the house under the supervision of an inspector and myself to redo the work just to get it done and over with, but he insists that I and quot;Quit F*****' Buggingand quot; him and has dared me to take it to court. He has no evidence to support him. I have video, pictures, report, documentation, and numerous eye-witness accounts cataloging the poor condition of the housefollowing his work. My family has sunk their small retirement and savings into this house and I, personally, am losing a lot of money by having to turn down job offers in order to remain at this house and complete this important task. We have already had to demolish the back room (three seasons room) he ‘worked on’ --- Jay responded, after ignoring and being prodded by the BBB for months, with a few lines stating that he wouldn't do anything and that everything he did wrong was my mother's fault. --- My rebuttal to Jay for the BBB (excerpts): Jay could not remember our names or find the dates or even the YEAR, of the work and quot;An exact date is unknown.and quot; is what he said. I have the exact dates on the building permits and the bills he sent. What legitimate business would not know the dates of its work less than a year afterward? “Also, as an aside, my mother's name is [omitted], not [omitted]; it says RIGHT ON HIS BILLS IN HIS HANDWRITING that her name is [omitted].” Yet, he does not know this or care. After hiring Horizon Associates mold remediators and speaking with numerous others (in this state and others) and consulting the EPA itself, what Jay did to ‘remediate’ the house was blatantly inappropriate. It is severely questionable whether Jay even used bleach on the boards given the extraordinarily high spore/mold count prior to MY remediation of the mold this summer. It is the opinion of me (and generally of Horizon Associates as well) that the mold was simply painted over with some kind of primer/sealant like Killz and left. This is NOT legitimate mold remediation or removal by any stretch of the imagination. Also, according to the energy efficiency inspector and the utilities inspector, the poly that Jay used and its placement were inappropriate for this half-basement job and presented a MOLD RISK to a basement as water would certainly get trapped by it. Furthermore, the shingles on the main house were nailed improperly. Shingles come with a white line across them that roofers are supposed to use as a guide when they nail shingles. Superior Roofing did not nail along this white line and instead nailed several inches above the white line. The white line isn't just there arbitrarily, however, but is placed in the middle of where more than one shingle sheet comes together and also ensures an even shingling job. By nailing where Jay did (far above this line), the nailing goes through only one sheet of shingles and is, therefore, not as strong. Besides this, it is a clear violation of generally accepted shingling practice and manufacturer suggestions when applying their products. My new contractor and I discovered this as I was putting the gutters back on the house--which Jay never put back up last year and which greatly contributed to the mold and rot problems with the house! In abhorrent addition, when replacing the soffit on the house, Jay left the soffit vents blocked by boards above them around the entire house. This effectively renders the new soffit vents to be useless ornamentation. Now it is necessary to remove all the soffit he put up as well in order to remove/drill those boards as they cannot be gotten to from the attic due to space limitations. According to other roofers, it is likely that much of the soffit will be unavoidably damaged during removal and will need to be replaced and not simply placed back in the same spot. These boards prevent the soffit from doing its job of venting the roof and, in doing so create numerous problems, the most glaring of which is MOLD in the attic. Just what I need more of... Nobody would pay a roofer to do this kind of a soffit job, just as nobody would pay a mechanic to install a tailpipe that was welded shut on the end of their car. Superior roofing also charged my parents for new drip edges but simply reused the old battered and bulging drip edges. This was noticed by every contractor and inspector who examined it with disbelief. These drip edges cannot now be replaced with the new roof/soffit already on. Nothing this man did was acceptable. I have paperwork stating the jobs he was supposed to do in writing. It is written right on the bills what he was to do and all my inspectors and contractors contradict his claims. He failed at his job and his evasiveness and derisiveness when being contacted is, to me, a final telling sign that he knows it. I would like to reiterate the great heartache, expense, and time required in order to completely remove all the now rotten boards in the basement, redo our entire foyer (including new subflooring, drywall, ceiling, and floor joists which had no history or signs of rot prior to Jay's work but had rotted out due in large part to bulging crummy drip edges and a lack of gutters, and studs that had mold at their tops likely due to the lack of attic ventilation in combination with the unmitigated spore count throughout the house), reinsulate, de-mold etc. In fact, even the simple cutting of the foyer's ceiling drywall (done by Jay) here was done so poorly that the city inspector insisted it be removed as a fire hazard! We had to pay Jay thousands to do things the first time, pay thousands to have much of his work removed, pay thousands to have it redone, and pay thousands in additional damages instigated by Jay's negligence. We have dearly paid monetarily, in time, and in spirit due to his negligence. End of BBB complaint --- I'd like to add here one final mistake I made: Thanking the Better Business Bureau for anything...ever. All that was ever done by them was a note on Superior Roofing's BBB profile that states simply: and quot;BBB found business made good faith effort to resolve complaint but customer not satisfied with business response (1 complaint)and quot;...followed by an A rating. Filing all the BBB paperwork put me a half a year behind begging for recompense for naught. And getting Jay on the phone took well over a year beyond that after we paid him. He is SCUM AND FILTH and the BBB is worse for supporting him portraying such a deceptive image of itself and its motives.
Description of Work: Demolition and mold removal (poorly done, as if by a mentally handicapped orangutan) Removal of mold in the attic that was moldy (none of the attic insulation looks as though it was even touched) Insulated entire basement (had to be removed because mold was not removed, as above, and ruined all of it) Installed new soffit and fascia (improperly and negligently) Total $13,448 Removed old roof (yup) Replaced 3 sheets of OSB (umm, ok, I'll give him that one I guess) Installed new roof with 30-year shingles and a new rubber roof and new drip edges (all done shoddily, as if by an orangutan, or not at all) New ridge vent (ummm...maybe true) Removed and Replaced 8 sheets of OSB and 3 rafters (sure, why not) Total: $6265 Grand Total ~$20,000 Really, though, it came out to probably $40,000 - $60,00 by the end of it.
