If you want lack of communication and not knowing when your fence will be installed or repaired after submitting an approved proposal, then A-1 Fence Co., Inc. is the way to go!! I however, do not recommend their services.

I had gotten multiple quotes but was not comfortable with any of the sales persons I encountered. Brent came out and gave us a quote immediately that was $400 lower than any of the others. He explained that they cut their own boards and they are actually 1" thick as opposed to the 3/4" boards most companies use. The fence is cedar (not red cedar). Our plan required 5 gates and there was no problem with them. We did have a problem, however. When Brent wrote the order, he did not have the disposition of an existing section of chainlink fence specified, and he wrote the order for dog-ear instead of the curved top I wanted. I called & we made the changes on the contract before signing & returning it. (All others wanted half down & half upon completion. A1 wanted $100 to schedule & balance on completion.) When they installed the fence, they got the chainlink portion right, but installed the dog ear. I called Brent & he immediately admitted it was his mistake. He offered for them to come out & tear it all down & re do it. However I didn't want to see all that material do to waste. I asked if we could come up with a creative solution. He came out a couple days later and showed me a sample they did of a cap they could put over the top of the fence to cover the offending dog ears. It looked really nice & they completed the work two days later. After looking at some of the negative reviews, I am astonished. We had great, responsive service all along. However, we are retired and were able to be very flexible in planning, so maybe that made a difference. In any case, we were happy with the entire process from quote through completion. My husband oversaw the work in progress and said the crews were very professional. In regards to clean-up, it is in the contract that they will remove debris, but moving the post-hole dirt is the responsibility of the owner. We would definitely recommend them and use them again!

Took over a month to get the work going and we had to call for an update as to when they would be coming. The guys eventually came and began building. Came home to find out from my neighbor that the guys enjoyed a few beers on the job over at my neighbors house! Completely inexcusable. My husband and I both work so we weren’t able to be home to monitor the work. They also left piles of dirt all over our yard from digging the holes for the posts. For the money we paid(almost $7K) we would expect some cleanup. Not impressed with them drinking on the job at all. Pretty unprofessional and most likely unproductive during their shift. I mean they should’ve done a better clean up rather than drink beers! We will not use A-1 again sadly. The construction of the fence is great but we paid a ton for it and didn’t get the best service. They might want to ensure their is a follow up done on sites-customers are paying quite a bit and derserve 100% back on their dollar. We used them for our 1st home-which was a much larger fence-and they were wonderful and way less expensive.

We've hired the company twice to install and repair a fence at our rental property and they did a wonderful job. The first time was more than 10 years ago and the second time was last year. I was very happy with them; they did quality work within the price quoted and were courteous and professional. The third time we tried to hire them, last week, we made an appointment for them to visit to give an estimate. I came home from work to meet them at the exact time of the appointment. My neighbor told me they'd come very early, left, came back again (early), and left again — all before the appointed time. I received no phone call. I called and texted them to discuss what had happened and see if they could come back. They never responded.

A1 did the job at the time they set out to do so. The three men who performed our job were VERY courteous and hard working!

Project was delayed by about a month (on their end) but received no communication from A1 that project was delayed even after I reached out several times to find out new estimated timeline. Also fence installation took longer than timeline given. They removed my old fence and set the new posts at the beginning of the week. I was told that they would return at weeks end or the beginning of the next week for install. It took about 2 weeks for them to come back for install. I understand they are subject to weather and so forth but some sort of communication instead of radio silence would have been greatly appreciated. I almost reached out to other fence companies since I wasn't sure if they were coming anymore or not. On the other hand, the fence looks great and so far it seems to be a quality product. Also the installers were very careful not to disturb the neighbors yards and were very gentle with mine. If communication was better I would have given them a glowing review.

They replaced the two posts. One had to be replaced again because it was gouged and had sharp edges that could hurt our animals. The posts and gates were installed several months later. The gates are made of white cedar. The old gates were red cedar. The two gates across the driveway do not meet in the middle. There is a gap of close to two inches. There is no latch holding them together. The only thing holding the two gates in place are rods that slide up and down on each side of the gate, and sink into holes in the driveway. This morning (December) they were frozen in the holes so we could not get out. My husband was able to free one side of the gate so we could walk out of the driveway. We have called the owner many times over the last five months to address the gap in the fence. We have left our name address and telephone number with a message. No one has returned our call. We have caller ID and are sure that the owner has not responded, even when we give some details.

A 1 Fence went out of their way for me. I was out of the country for a month and came home to find my fence destroyed by the storms. It was completely leaning over. My insurance company wanted them to just fix it and Brent came out to my house to explain to the claims adjuster as to why it needed to be replaced. Had he not done that I would not have a new beautiful fence up right now. Thank You Brent and the team for coming out and giving me a beautiful fence. They All were very professional, friendly, fast and efficient. I would highly recommend this company for All your fencing needs.

We have alot cables, as well as shrubbery, lining our backyard.   A 1  had no problems navigating through these  barriers, and installed a quality fence in a timely manner. They are a bit more expensive, but I appreciated their professionalism and lack of drama regarding our "freeway of cables".

A-1 Fence installed our backyard fence about 5 years ago before we joined Angie's List. They did a first rate job from beginning to end, including recommendations about the type and style of fence most compatible with our neighborhood. We had them back once to expand the area enclosed, again with utmost service and quality. Today I needed them to open up a section of fence so a concrete contractor can move his equipment in. I thought I had several days to accomplish this but the concrete people moved up their timetable and i had less than one day. A-1 came out and took care of it on almost no notice. They also dismantled the section in very smart and efficient way without having to cut any of the posts or rails. They really saved my bacon.

The posts started splitting days after the installation. I called and texted owner many times to no avail. I am now stuck with split posts on fence as well as gates. Very disappointed since I have given him two months to respond and he hasn't.

I wish I could recommend this company. The product and installation services were outstanding but there is problem with the sales/co-owner that is Insurmountable. The initial contact and estimate, etc., was fine. The estimate was slightly higher than other companies but I felt, at that point, that this was a more experienced and professional operation so I went with them. I was told that I would know when the installation was coming up when I noticed city workers marking my properties for utilities. This should have been my first red flag - they couldn't make a phone call when my installation was scheduled? I had to call them to find out the day. I can't say enough about the installation crew. They were, prompt, efficient, friendly, professional and organized. Unfortunately, I noticed that the fence they were installing was the wrong color. No problem, no arguments - they immediately removed it & contacted the sales person to order the correct color. It took another month and several phone calls / emails from me to get the second installation scheduled. This was my second reg flag - the salesman told me not to email him with questions as he didn't get to the office often enough to respond to emails. Is that good business practice? The installation went well. The installers consulted with the other landscaping contractors on site to be sure everything was done correctly. They walked the property with me a second time to ensure that everything was installed to my wishes. It took only a few hours to complete the job and it was perfect. For some reason, the stair railings I ordered did not come with this shipment. This is where the trouble really began. Let me just summarize the dozens of phone calls, most of them without any response, a myriad of excuses over several months and just plain being ignored to say that now, 9 months later, there are still no stair railings. Several times I left messages (there is NEVER a direct pickup to a phone call) stating that if the company did not want this job to just please let me know so I could find someone else. No response. I paid my bill the day the work was completed, did not complain when the wrong product was delivered nor when I had to wait twice as long as promised for installation so I don't think I'm an unreasonable customer. I just cannot recommend this company. I feel badly for the workers.

Everything was great. They gave us a prompt and reasonable quote. The project was done in the amount of time that was estimated and the fence looks great. I couldn't say enough good things about Brent and the staff with A1 Fence. We have other fences that need to be replaced in the next year or two and we will not waste our time getting quotes from others this time.

After checking Angie's List for fence contractors I decided to call A1 Fence Co.  I had seen their sign on a number of fences in my East Side neighborhood.  Their sales rep was very responsive and arrived for the appointment on time.  He was able to give me an exact quote as soon as we discussed my requirements.  He told me what type of permits were necessary and where to obtain them.
My estimate for the work was done near the end of Winter so the ground was frozen.  The rep told me they'd be out to dig the holes just as soon as they were able.  The rep came out once more to double check my order and if necessary make any changes.  The crew arrived the next day, dug the holes and cemented in the posts.  They came back a week later and installed the fence.  They did a wonderful job?.it looks great.  What was interesting is that the fence is built to order.  The lattice work was built by hand the day before and brought to my site.  The lower 4 feet of privacy boards were installed on site.  They cleaned up after with nothing left for me to do other than admire the fence.  
I'm totally pleased with the work A1 Fence performed at my home.

The new fence looks great and we couldn't be happier with the results.  Brent was very professional and communicative.  He called during the job when he had queestions about how we wanted something done.  They left the work site clean.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend A-1 to others.

We signed up early in the spring and they estimated 5-6 weeks before installation. I did not hear from them so after about 8 weeks I contacted them. They gave me an estimated date a week out. They followed up by phone a day or two later to confirm. In their defense we had terrible spring weather and I am sure that set them back.
The first crew to arrive laid out where the fence would run and walked me through it. They asked a lot of questions and made a point of confirming if I was comfortable with the layout. They then drilled all the holes and installed the posts in concrete. They left the site very clean and informed me that another crew would be by in several days to install the fence sections. They wanted to let the concrete cure before installing the sections.
The second crew arrived 4-5 days later and quickly installed the sections. They also left the site very clean. I was very impressed with the quality of their fence and the installation crews. I would not hesitate to use them again.

The workers were professional and pleasant. They accommodated our neighbors, pets, and existing structural challenges. They removed the old and poured the cement post areas for the new fence on day 1. They finished the process when they returned. The job was done much sooner than we expected given the rainy days. The only unhappy character is our family dog who has lost his escape route.
