I had a great experience with Oak Creek Heating & Cooling. First, Jay was the only contractor - and I got eight bids - who did NOT try to upsell me. He was very honest about what size furnace and A/C my small, Cape Cod house needed. In fact, after getting other quotes that were really selling me **** ** fancier A/C models, I called him to see if he could re-quote with these models. He said that he was happy to but that I really didn't need anything that big/fancy/powerful. He basically talked himself out of money in order to provide me with what I actually needed for my house. Furthermore, as a single female homeowner, I never felt like he was glossing over things - he answered all of my questions and talked to me like I could understand the technicalities of what he was saying (folks can feel free to have opinions on my including this, but I think it is relevant information and I hope that it is helpful). This is after other contractors asked me where was my husband was, was I the only one making this decision, or even tried to give me a quote without even seeing my basement. So, personally, it just felt right to go with Jay and Oak Creek Heating & Cooling. Now, on to the work. His quote was incredibly detailed and precise, which I appreciated - I knew exactly what I was walking into. They were booking about two weeks out, so I didn't have to wait too long. He arrived with two other guys on time, as scheduled. I have pets and they were incredibly respectful of my specific requirements about going in and out of the home, leaving the basement door closed, etc. I went downstairs every now and again to check in and his team was always polite and professional. Again, as a single woman, I never felt unsafe with three strange men in my house. The job took all day - from about 8am until about 4:30pm. This included installing a new gas furnace and gas A/C - with new gas service to my home so there was a lot of work running lines outside and through the back of the house. They also brought a gas line up to the kitchen so that I can install a gas stove. There was one possible snafu when they thought they might not be able to put the thermostat where I wanted it, but they tried hard - and ultimately were successful - to make it work. I was kept up to date on the situation as it was ongoing and was talking back and forth with Jay about it. When they finished (30 minutes early), they cleaned up after themselves. When Jay came to settle up, he actually took money OFF of the bill because he said installing the gas line for the stove was easier than he thought and so he had quoted too high. Again, it was a great quote (I think he quoted me $125 for that particular add-on) and I would have had no way to know it was easier. For a point of reference, my quotes ran the gamut from about $6,000 to $10,000, with most falling in the $6,500 to $8,000 range. Overall, I paid just shy of $6,000 for the work - but it was good to see that Oak Creek Heating & Cooling wasn't *so* far under bid that I was worried about getting shoddy work. Overall, I highly recommend them. If they did other work, I would have them do that for me, too!
