I stopped by their booth at a home show. I agreed to have them come do an estimate for the windows we need replaced. I was immediately put on guard by their insistence that my wife also be home during the estimate. I decided to follow through because more estimates are always good, but boy do I regret letting their sales person in my door. He was unfailingly polite, I will give him that, but he was constantly bashing the competition (in the most general of terms) and he took forever to get through his extensive sales pitch. If it had just been a waste of my time, that would be bad enough, but at the end he piled on the hard sell. He kept implying that I must think something is wrong with the quality if I didn't want to commit to buying windows from him RIGHT THAT SECOND. I was so angry by the time I got him out the door. I hate these sorts of sales tactics. If your proposal can't stand on its own next to competing bids, you don't deserve my business. I will not reward these sorts of underhanded, slimy tactics.

The salesperson insisted on my wife's presence for the quote. She'd delegated this to me because of a busy work schedule and, as the property is duplex, it doesn't really make sense to get sentimental about the windows. When I asked the woman on the phone to respect this choice, she got aggressive and insisted on my wife's presence. I said that we'd be taking our business to another company, because if their company couldn't respect a choice as simple as this one we had no desire to see what other choices they would choose not to respect. The woman on the phone then spent an inordinate amount of time bashing other companies, attempting to divine my motivations, telling me how special their windows were because they were custom built (just like the window of every one of their competitors), and then circled back to bashing their competitors. A very distasteful interaction all-round, and an extremely unprofessional company.
Description of Work: I needed each of the 32 single pane windows in my 47 year old duplex replaced.

This is probably the worst company I've ever dealt with, so I felt compelled to write this review. The windows are overpriced, and the caulking on the windows I bought from them looks shoddy at best, but I could deal with that. The WORST thing about this company was the unethical salesperson AND terrible customer service. Originally the salesperson called my friend trying to sell her windows. She didn't need any, but they said they would give her $100 gift cert for anyone that she referred that bought windows. The salesperson came out and sold me 2 big replacement windows for about $3,000. When I called weeks later to ask why my friend hadn't gotten her $100 gift cert, someone named Leana answered the phone and said that since my friend wasn't a previous customer, she would not get her gift certificate. I asked to talk to the owner (Corey Sturman) so I could tell him about the unethical sales practice, and she wouldn't transfer me. She continued to argue and mock me on the phone. When I said I didn't want to argue with her and asked again to talk to Corey, she said "I can leave a message, but I can't guarantee he will call you. IN FACT, HE PROBABLY WON'T CALL YOU." I left a message, and he never called me. Then I called another employee named Trevor. He told me that Leana has superior service skills and he couldn't believe she would do say those things. He also promised to get me the gift certificate for my friend. He never sent it. I had his mobile number so I texted him a few times, and he just started ignoring me. My understanding is that Corey is in Vegas and not around very much. I have tried several times to get a hold of the owner (phone, email, facebook), but to no avail. This is NOT a company that cares about its customers! Also, their sponsored Facebook Page currently has 5 "likes" and 1 "angry" emoticon, but 2 of those "likes" come from their own employees. What does that tell you? There were more "dislikes" and negative comments previously, but I know from experience they just delete them and block the people that write them. What a joke.

Not well, the company refuses to provide me with a copy of the contract I signed without sending a 'manager' to my home
Description of Work: Two weeks ago we had a salesman come to our home we agreed upon 8 windows for our home, we were told we had 3 days to cancel. Unfortunately on day 3 my wife was admitted into the hospital for several days and we are now looking at a long road of hospital bills. I called to cancel the order and appointment for the final measurements on Wednesday October 12, I was told I cannot cancel because I signed a contract, I said ok I will look at the contract and figure out what I need to do. I went home looked at the folder I was left by the salesman, no signed contract, only thing I had that I had signed was the statement saying I had 3 days to cancel without penalty, which is law, not their generosity. I on Thursday October 13 and after talking to multiple people got to Maggie. When I asked for them to mail me a copy of the contract I signed I was told they can't because they send a manager out to our home, I said fine and made an appointment for Friday October 14th at 6:30. I then called back several minutes later and talked to Anna after 2 other people passed me along and was informed that on the contract I was referring to that it was marked, 'left copy with customer'. I indicated if that were true I wouldn't be calling because all I want to see is the contract. She said the manager will bring me the contract, I asked if he would be bringing my down payment check as well (knowing it has already been cashed) she said no because I forfeited that after passing the 3 day grace period. So I asked Anna, ok you have the contract in front of you correct? She said yes, I asked her what are the terms of cancellation, she said she did not have that in front of her. Yes let that settle in she has the contract but cannot tell me what is in it? They want to get a manager to your house and do the what I like to call "kirby vacuum' treatment. I told Anna to not send anyone to my home if he is not bringing my down payment. So since Mad City is being so difficult I will not be using them for any future projects.

They were expensive. We had a lot of windows because we have a big house. I 1500 square feet house. The guy had a good sales pitch but it ended up more than we expected. We did get out two big windows done in every single bedroom and the kitchen. They were supposed to be here earlier than they came. I had to go over it.

I liked the product itself. But, we found out, two weeks later, that their work has a leak. It's not perfect. They came and fixed it and it's okay now. The base that they ordered was not the correct base. So they had to reorder another base. So, we had to reschedule the installation for another week. They did it the whole day and finished. But then, two weeks after that, there was a leak. It got wet all over my floor. They should make sure that everything is perfect as they promise.

After the experience we had with Mad City and talking to number of other home owners who have worked with or received a bid from Mad City, I am BAFFLED by all the positive reviews they have on Google, Facebook, and other sites: I will call BS and speculate they are cooking up their own ratings. Here is what you will get: 1. Aggressive sales tactics. Numerous friends have said they couldn't get the sales person out of their house. I guess we caved somewhat early (only after an hour and half), so we were spared the extended stay. We have a 764 square foot rectangle home and our initial bid was over $17,000 for gutters and siding. I pity the person who accepts this initial bid, as I am confident they have taken advantage of vulnerable home owners with these astronomically high bids. I know it's all part of the dance, but they will shame you the entire way down with comments like, "We are already losing money on your house, but we want to get business in your neighborhood." "Let me call my manager (proceeds to call/text no one)....yeah it looks like we can come down a couple thousand, but this is the absolute lowest we can go, we are losing money." One week later when we found out we were getting hosed, but were under contract, we called them back to the house and they knocked off $2000 without batting an eye, so go figure. Interestingly; however, the sales person said, "Listen, your garage is 16ft long - Save yourself some cash and go to Menards who has 16ft gutters." Wouldn't you know when I attempted to do this our garage is 18ft long. Finally, we were promised two things: 1. Mad City employees do the job, so you will paid more so installers are fairly compensated and receive benefits. 2. "Juan and the gang won't show up to your house and do your install; all our installers speak English." Let me go on the record and say, I do not care what language our installers speak - If they know what they are doing and take a little pride in their work, we are happy to pay them fairly. (Next time the racist sales person will be asked to leave and we will do business elsewhere. Instead, when we had him (Trevor) back the second time (under contract, unfortunately) he reiterated the point that "Juan and the gang..." two more times.) I'll be damned if the day of our install a very nice and capable man named Juan showed up overseeing a non-Mad City crew who predominately spoke spanish. Which leads to point number two... 2. When, not if, you call Mad City with a problem you will not talk to anyone in management. Our install went Monday - Wednesday and I called everyday (even Thursday and Friday), sometimes multiple times per day with questions for a site manager, such as, "I thought this was going to be a Mad City crew getting paid well w/benefits?" No call back. "Let's talk about getting gutters on our garage before the gutter people come." No call back. "I have concerns that the sales person is racists and says derogatory comments about the leader of the crew currently working at our house, who is his boss?" "He technically doesn't have a boss." How about the field manager that I've left five messages for throughout the week and I never heard back from, who is his boss? "He doesn't really have a boss, is there a problem that I can help with? I can send him another email and have him call you back." You will be told how great Mad City's customer service is and that they have a transferable warranty, but when you can't get someone - anyone - to call you back, I have zero confidence in their warranty. We did get a field manager to come out and check the job...two days after it was done and a payment was due. Also, when I told the office personnel that I had some concerns I needed to discuss before submitting a payment, I was informed that nothing could be fixed until they received a payment. Awesome. Along these lines, leftover scraps were nicely piled in our yard for over 3 weeks, which was after one face to face conversation and four messages/calls to Mad City. Let's just say by this point I had zero confidence in the whole operation and pulled the leftovers into our garage, because we will be on our own if something goes wrong. 3. The only reason I did not give Mad City an "F" is because the siding and gutters do look pretty good, so kudos to the subcontractors (Juan and ABC Seamless Gutters). We feel used and defeated, so spare yourself the experience and go with someone else.

Appointment was confirmed via phone. I even got a voice mail saying "we will see you tomorrow". I waited, nobody came. When I called, they told me the appointment was cancelled because they couldn't confirm my address via some web search. Well, I just moved. That's how the sales guy walking from door to door got ahold of me. I had noticed many missed calls the day of from the company, but no voice mail was ever left cancelling the appointment.

We ordered the doors in April of 2014. It took 8 months, 9 visits, and 6 doors to finish the install. There was snow on the ground when our exterior doors, which were supposed to be finished and installed by June, to actually be complete. On the initial install, they sent the wrong doors. They were both for the left side and different colors. After waiting nearly the entire day, they quickly installed the doors only to damage our frame and the doors themselves. When called back out to do service on the doors, the technician wasn't even aware of why he was there. He proceeded to scream at my wife while I was at work to the point where the neighbors came out to see what was going on. The metal wrapping frame installed on both doors was bent, scratched, and paint chipped off. The french door was actually cracked from nearly the bottom through the whole top. The first, second, and third replacement door was the wrong base door and had the fittings drilled in incorrect places. The forth came broken, the fifth was the wrong color, sixth once again had the hardware in the wrong place, we never saw the 7th or 8th for quality reasons, and finally the 9th was correct. However by now it was already December. We had to work with no less than 3 managers to finish the install, all of which never talked to one another. Technicians never knew why they were at our house and what needed to be fixed. In order to get Mad City to agree to a timeline, I had to have my lawyer write a letter requesting purchasing and scheduling information in order to begin the litigation process to have another company come fix their mistakes. Thankfully it didn't have to go that far. Post install 7 months later, both door frames are beginning to rust and our top sliding door is already malfunctioning. Even though they come with a lifetime warranty, I would prefer to pay a different company to come out and service these doors, which speaks volumes to how well I would trust this company to do any work on my house again. We may just have them ripped out and replaced at this point, eating the $8300 investment.

The salesman was prompt and courteous, until we got toward the end of the interaction. We were presented with a "huge discount" if we "signed right away". If the salesman left, we would no longer be eligible for this discount, which given our desired work, was about $500. Feeling the pressure, we decided to sign, and immediately had second thoughts. When I called to cancel our contract (and eat the $100 deposit), the receptionist was brusque and couldn't find our contract to cancel it. I had to call several times over the next three or four days to confirm the contract was canceled and I wasn't going to get any unpleasant litigation in return. Never again.

The initial sales pitch and call was extensive and lengthy. They promised the moon. No subcontractors, they claimed. Best windows on the market and a quick turn around. I had approximately 17 windows to replace. After the THREE hour sales pitch, they put on the hard push saying that if that I didn't sign that day, the price would be much higher as it costs so much to come back again. I was so tired and worn down, I caved. I agreed and they scheduled the measurement time. They did measure and came back on schedule. Several weeks later they arrived with the windows and said that they would all be installed in three days. They installed about 5 on the first day. Then they found that the kitchen window was too small. I was OK with that as mistakes happen. However, after the second day, I was dubious that the guys installing were actual employees. I started asking they confirmed they were sub-contractors. This was a major point in their sales pitch that they DID NOT use subcontractors. I started looking at the work and id was NOT adequate. Flashing was not installed correctly and two windows had only caulk on half of the window. Fortunately I pointed this out and it was fixed. It actually took about 4 weeks to finish the project. I requested an owner come out and he did. When I pointed out the flaws he agreed. He didn't agree that a person paid for a one time job with no taxes or benefits was not a sub-contractor. I challenged him to defend his view and he couldn't. The kitchen window was finally installed several weeks later and I did ask them to add a few wraps for windows that were NOT being replaced. They didn't agree to do any of this in the original fee. They gave me no discount for the extensive time to install and charged more for the minimal wrap I requested. They did not clean the windows after installation and did NOT take lead precautions that they claimed they would during the sales pitch. This is a major company but I will not use them again. I do like the windows now that they have been installed but I am awaiting another company to give me an evaluation on whether they have actually been installed correctly. I will not recommend this company to anyone and have already steered 4 friends away from them.

We wanted a new tub/shower enclosure so called Mad City. The "new guy" came out and gave us a long (very very very long) sales pitch which finally ended with a "decide now and I can give you a 3000 dollar discount" pitch after which we had 30 days to decide if we wanted a lesser discount since we opted to not fall for his high pressure techniques. It might be that Mad City has a quality product, but even if that is true it isn't worth the 13K and no one should have to endure a sales pitch like that. Reading other reviews of other Mad City products it seems this is their way of doing business, stay clear.
Description of Work: Mad City came out to give us an estimate on a new bathtub (same company), proceeded to engage us in a painfully long three-hour high pressure sales pitch worthy of the best used car salesman, complete with the "I have to call my manager to see if I can work out a deal for you" routine.

The salesman was well trained in high pressure sales tactics. They take you through a 2-3 hour dog and pony show about why their vinyl pellets are better than everyone else vinyl pellets, how the heat doesn't penetrate their windows (with a fancy thermometer) all the while gauging your and quot;ballparkand quot; for what you and quot;think you should pay to have these windowsand quot;. The salesman we had was a slimeball, but we respected his time and told him we were interested. He asked us how much we thought it would cost, and seeing as they were our first contractor quote we guessed 10k. Our windows are rotting through the sills and after last winter we were desperate. He gave us a quote of $14,500 for a whole home replacement of 10 windows (that's 1450 per window), all double hung normal (I realize that's subjective, so roughly 2ft wide by 4ft tall) sized windows. No giant custom picture windows or anything fancy at all, just regular sized windows you could pay 150 for at Menards. They wanted 1450 per window. Well that was just the beginning. After we told him we thought it seemed high, he then went on a diatribe about how we were getting the finest quality vinyl windows out and it costs more to have better. But there was a caveat... he'd knock some off the price to get us to our and quot;target price of 10kand quot; if they could use us for their marketing strategy (they wanted to make a video with our testimonials, talk to our neighbors, put signs in our yard, etc. etc.). Obviously this was another slimeball move. We never once stated we had a target price of 10k. We only stated we thought thats what they were going to cost when he asked us. Honestly I believe they make up a number on the spot after asking you what you think they're going to cost. We could have said 5k and he would have quoted us 8k or something to that effect. It's all a game to these people... the game of maximizing profits off people that don't do their homework. Anyhow, the price eventually got knocked down to 10k where he began pushing us to sign the contract TODAY. He kept saying and quot;what can I do to earn your business TODAYand quot;, as if these ludicrous deals were going to expire tomorrow. In the end we did not take the services provided from Mad City Windows and have since taken quotes from contractors that are almost a third of what MCW originally quoted (5400 vs 14500). This is a garbage company with garbage sales tactics and shady employees. Stay far, far away from these clowns.

We converted 90% of out double hung windows over to their Enviroview 2 wide sliders. We also replaced the 3 double hung windows in our living room with a three point slider, and had a few single double hungs replaced. Our sales guy Joe Jacobson was great, although, I do agree that their sales pitch could be faster, but Joe was pleasant enough and quite professional. We ordered our windows and they were made and installed within 5 weeks. The install took just one day. We had three professional guys who worked perfectly together! They cleaned up their mess and answered any questions that we had quickly and professionally. The price seemed a little high, but the window quality is amazing! You get what you pay for people!! We'd use them again.

That was financed 0% interest for 5 years. At first when they sat down and tried to give me how much it would cost, I really was not able to compare but I told them that I did not want to do it for that cost. We were able to negotiate a better price so that worked out towards that way. There were 2 people that came to work on it, and they were very neat and clean. They put down sheet to walk in through the house so they won't track in on the carpet so their workmanship was very good. The guy that did most of the work took a lot of pride in his work and he did a really good job. They were very good with regards to responsiveness about questions before, during, and after. Their punctuality was very good. If I use them again, I'll get a 30% on whatever work on another bathroom.

My boyfriend and I were approached at our home as we were driving up 6/4/2014 by a representative of Mad City Roofing Siding Windows. As I have been interested in bathroom remodeling and knew they also did that, I scheduled an appointment for 6/5/2014. I did not receive a call canceling the appointment. When I called to confirm, I was told I had been taken off the list because I hadn't confirmed earlier. Disappointing, but fair enough. I must have missed their confirmation call before their time window closed. As I tried to reschedule. I was told they would not schedule an appointment unless my boyfriend would be there. I told them I own my home, pay my mortgage, will pay for the work, and will make my own decision on what repairs are done in my own house. They would not budge. I'm sure somebody else would be happy to take a homeowner's money.

Overall they did a good job and we would recommend them for other similar tub removal to walk in shower conversions. Pro's They provided explanation for all work done and asked if we had questions through the project. Travis, plumber, and Brandon did a good job removing the old materials and installation of the new materials. Good attention to details. Travis and Brandon demonstrated above average Customer Service skills. They were polite and did necessary steps to reduce dust. Cleaned up at the end of each day. Their certified carpenter was excellent. Lost his name. Tim, the carpenter, painter, drywall repair man was excellent. Finished product looks great and we love it. Their price was sky high, then after discounts it was still high. However, they did price match a competitors bid. I give them credit for price matching. Con's. It's very apparent that Joe in sales does not talk to the Production Manager or respond "quickly" to customer phone calls We called and left a message that we wanted to change the trim kit from their standard to another Moen trim kit and would provide it and wanted to know how much the cost would be lowered. Talked to secretary and Cory the Production Manager. It took 3 phone calls by me and 4 weeks before the salesman called me and we agreed to the price reduction. That happened a few days before the demo started. Therefore, the low rating for responsiveness. When the drain alignment and I-beam interference was encountered, they dropped us out of the schedule while they investigated how to move the I-beam. So we lost two days for the research and movement of the drain but we lost almost 4 more days before they could get back to us to finish the job. We should have been back next day after the I-beam was moved. Our master bathroom was down too long. They should have kept us in the schedule to come back immediately after the carpenters were done moving the I-beam. We were given the option to have another crew finish the job, which would save two days but we wanted the same crew who did the demo and basic work. They do a good job cleaning up and did use a vacuum and cloth to clean floor and counter top surface. But understand they had to cut up a jacuzzi tub and fiberglass surround and it's messy. I spent 3 hours cleaning the next day. Their was dust on every ledge on the doors and window sill and the top edge of the mirror. We are not fanatics about dust but just wanted everything to be clean. During the demo they had to trim the back edge of the access panel surround and put a whole in the wall into the bedroom wall about 2 inches long. Of course they repaired this damage, applied texture to the wall, and used by left over paint from 11 months earlier and repainted the damaged area. No up charge since it was their issue. They did a great job with the repair and you cannot see where it was patched. Workmanship was excellent. During the demo they damaged the access panel from our master bedroom closet to under the jacuzzi tub. They responded quickly that they would repair the damage. Then it was determined that they would rebuild the oak access panel. Problem reported on Feb 11th and as of April 21, we are still waiting on the replacement access panel. Another reason for the low rating for responsiveness. The trim kit and bars and shower curtain are Moen brushed nickel. Finish quality is excellent. They installed a chrome sink drain and we are still waiting on the brushed nickel drain. They really did a great install. Accidents do happen but their response to fixing the issues leaves much to be desired. Trying to get back to the salesman is almost impossible for the customer and I heard the same thing from the employees. This may be signs of growing pains. If we have another bathroom conversion and their price was competitive, we would reuse them. Recommend based upon the overall performance. .
Description of Work: Scope: Tub to walk-in-shower conversion. Provided Sun Prairie Permit to perform work. Removed jacuzzi tub disconnecting water and electrical. Installed new floor pan. Installed green/blue board. Installed new Moen Moentrol water value (much better than Moen Posi-Temp value), connected water feed lines. Installed acrylic walls, shower acrylic seat, shower trim kit, two handicap bars, bowed shower curtain rod, and all caulking as required. The new drain position from shower pan was right over a beam in the floor. Learned this happen 25% of the time. They cut two access panels in the basement and brought in a Certified Carpenter who then did his code check to see how far they could bend/move the I beam to clear the drain. All work explained prior to moving the beam and it was very clear they did their home work and it made sense. They even cleared it with the SP Building Department. Professional certified Plumber did the work. They removed all the 1.5" pipe back to the "Y" and ran a 2" drain from the "Y" to the drain pan to meet SP Code requirements. Installed new drywall in basement ceiling and did the tape and appropriate muddying, and knock down texture to match ceiling. Repainted the entire section of the ceiling, not just the area repaired.

It was excellent. The price included everything, removing the existing windows, hauling it away and putting in new ones. There are probably other cheaper window places out there. We had a big storm brewing and they were out here in the rain.
Description of Work: We had all new windows installed by them. They put in eleven complete windows and a bay window.
