It has taken me a year and half to calm down to write this review objectively.
While working, Westhill didn't use adequate protection for the entry, stairs or in work area. They tracked dirt on our brand new light carpet and used the area where new hardwood was just laid for their materials, even though there was plenty of space elsewhere. We were out but our interior designer thankfully noticed this and pointed it to Westhill.
The project lead, Steve Coster was flat out rude and insulting to her. Upon it being physically pointed out to him, he made a sideways dig at the painter having moved it (not true). Now called out on it, he said to her, and quot;My boss told me I have to apologize to you,and quot; which I'm sure you'll agree is lame.
In the course of working on the balcony, a worker dropped a wrench onto our painter's windshield. The excuse for that was, and quot;Oh, I didn't think anyone was here to move the car,and quot; even though he'd never checked. Our painter had a cracked windshield and had to fight with them for weeks and weeks to get reimbursed.
Fortunately, both the designer and the painter are lovely professionals and don't decide to run from the house. When the project is finished, I get an uncomfortable, fawning apology from Steve, to which credit should be given that I did get one, and they are gone. But, wait, there's more!
The wire to the alarm system has been left in a manner that it not longer works. At that point, rather than see a Westhill employee again, I pay someone else to come fix the alarm wire.
I'm just glad I'll never have to work with Westhill again. If you choose to use them, don't say I didn't warn you.

I hired Westhill Inc. after I had a severe house fire on 9/15/2012. They were to gut and rebuild my home. They did NOT get any city permits and or inspections. Being a general contractor and in business 38 years you would think they would know better, guess not. They also did all the structural work with out a engineer and my home is structurally unsafe. The work quality that was done is also very poor. Also during construction they tried to change design and the quality of materials with out my permission. I was lied to on many occasions by the employees and the owner. I sure hope nobody has to go through this same thing and will do my best to get the word out about this general contractor. If needed I have plenty of documentation to back up what I've said. I have a letter from the city, a engineers report and a full report from a construction defects expert.

Not so well. For example, because the ceiling wasn't taped off, there is paint drippings now in a number of places onto our maple cabinetry. There is also several splash/drips on the crown molding and chair rail in the dining room.

In the kitchen, the patch Westhill did on the ceiling was still very distinct.

Regarding the wood floor, some discolorations that we had two different flooring companies say they could get out ( including one sub that Westhill brought out to estimate the work ). So imagine our surprise when we came back and saw all these discolorations. Westhill said they could get them out by replacing the boards and refinishing the flooring. Huh? shouldn't that have been a conversation we had before the finishing was put down?

Westhill also estimated moving our furniture in their bid and then didn;t have a plan to do it! The GC mentioned he'd ask some of the painters/flooring floks to move it if it was in the way when they came out. We have some pretty expensive furniture so freaked a bit and

opted to move the stuff ourselves rather than having painters moving things. So imagine our surprise when we got our final bill and they were still charging us for moving furniture - ugh!

To his credit, the manager ( chris ) did come out and work with me to fix many of these things. But clearly when I selected Westhill it was because I didn't expect to have to do any of these things. I paid for a general contractor and paid a lot for them! I truly believe I paid a 100% premium for Westhill and sadly had to do a lot of the GC work myself.

A very good experience. After years of putting up with closet doors constantly falling off their ancient tracks we decided to hire someone to end our frustrations once and for all. I got a nearly instantaneous response to my initial email inquiry to Westhill, Inc and was contacted by Steve shortly thereafter. Steve's walk-through showed his thorough knowledge of the issues we were having and he took extra steps to try several options before we settled on the solution finally chosen. Extra security was also installed elsewhere in the house. Steve and Jeff were punctual, personable, and professional. Absolutely no complaints.

Bad: We hired them even though their bid was double compared to others because we were promised that the repaired patch of the ceiling will match perfectly to the rest of our ceiling. When workers showed up, the first thing they told us is that there was no way to create a 100% match. Also, our final bill somehow included someone else's home repairs. Good: Workers were polite, clean, on time and did a great job.

We have lived in our home for 20 years and this was our first home remodeling experience. Westhill exceeded our expectations. They were timely and very good at communicating what was happening and when. We asked them if they would please finish by Thanksgiving, and they did just that. Our bathroom is beautiful. They did quality work all the way, and we will definitely use them in the future.

Whoa! This was a complicated and tedious job but Steve was totally with the program. These people are without a doubt the best in the business. Ask for Steve if you are dealing with complex detail type wood work. It is obvious he is a master craftsman and really knows his stuff. One final note, we had to leave him in the home alone on several occasions and he is as honest as the day is long. If you are doing any woodwork around your home I would strongly recommend this company.

Estimates were very high (mostly admin fees) and when we found three more competitive bids Westhill continued (and continues) to bill us for design services (months after we have gone with another company). They are not competitive and do not respond well to call or questions about their performance. They must have a great marketing guy, but they employ bait and switch and do not compete well in the market.

Our basement flooded and Westhill was called in by the water damage company to perform the demolition work. We were so impressed with Westhill's professionalism and how quickly they completed the demo job that we hired them to do the restoration as well. Their quote came in under several other quotes we got for the same job, and was extremely detailed (down to the individual selection of materials, square footage for each room, and so forth). As soon as we signed the contract they got to work immediately and got everything done in record time. We were really impressed with how quickly they worked, and the job coordinator kept us in the loop on each stage of the job. The result was beautiful, completed on time and on budget. This was a substantial project and I would definitely trust Westhill to do a large project again - they did a great job.

Pretty terrible. A flood in our basement required the removal of 18" of drywall the circumference of our finished basement's 4 small rooms. Westhill's restoration team was chosen by our insurance agent to do the work. At first they were great but things quickly went downhill. We had three different project managers over the course of a couple of months as each one failed to do their job very well. Some members of their crews were rude and quick with off-color jokes. They were intrusive and inconsiderate at times. Although a lot of the work was well done, they would show up unannounced and at all hours, and then not for days. Our main floor was twice completely covered in dust because someone didn't seal the barrier downstairs properly. We wanted them to use primer before painting but they didn't so we can still see the old color through the new color in spots. We complained but nothing was done. Then the worst part began - billing and accounting. They were off every step of the way. They tried to charge us for a vanity we purchased and had delivered. They would have overcharged us by nearly double on the whole project if we hadn't stuck to our guns and demanded proof in writing for what we owed against what we had already paid, for work done and work not done. Accounting is not their strong suit and their customer service left a lot to be desired. It was crazy but we finally got it all straightened out several weeks later, thanks to our insurance agent's efforts along with ours. Their apology was to send us a $15 Starbucks gift card. Seriously.

Westhill is a very good construction company. I liked their professionalism. They seemed to have a lot of integrity and honesty in the quality of their work. I told them upfront about my feelings and they didn't turn them off at all. They were very understanding and told me that they were there to get the work done for me. Something that I liked about them was that, we had one man assigned to us. We could tell our problems and issues to him and he would take care of it even if it was a weekend. He was available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. I could even call him at 3 in the morning. We could call him with any concerns and questions. He listened to my opinions as well. He was present to supervise the work when the crew came out to get the work done. He made sure that everything was okay and he worked on top of that. He coordinated well on things that he could do especially when the other people weren't available. He went on the roof and was working on the roof when the people weren't there to fix a garage door. He didn't stay around doing nothing. He was also working when his crew arrived. He made all the appointments when I had any questions. He made sure that everybody was present and kept us informed as to when people were going to come. I would use their services in the future as well.

Tim the estimator was prompt, courteous and professional. He delivered the bid on time. Jeff the superintendant was also wonderful. The only component that did not meet expectations was their choice in tile subcontractors. (Reliable Floor Coverings in Edmonds) THEY needed constant "babysitting". Ex. Their installer placed chipped slate smack dab in the middle of the floor (instead of not using it at all, or at least hiding it where the washer or dryer would cover it anyway. His choice of travertine pieces was similarly bad, and I had to INSIST they re-do it with better quality pieces. In spite of this, Westhill bends over backwards to make their customers happy and I would still use them for future jobs. I would just make sure they used a different tile sub.

They did a great job. They really demanded a high level in quality for what they did. They came back several times for touch ups. They are friendly and easy to work with. We did have an issue with the cost. It was a short project for them and the cost overrun was 25% over their estimate. We ended up paying them 5% over their estimate. They didn't warn us at any time during the process that it was going to be over estimate. They handed us the bill and walked off. I was in sticker shock when I actually had a chance to look at the bill. They knew that when they handed it to me, but nobody said here's what's wrong and we are going to work with you. They could have handled the invoicing much more professionally then they did. That said, we sat down, negotiated and were able to get to a price we both agreed on. Based on the quality of the job, I would definitely consider hiring them again, but based on the overrun we experienced I would be cautious about hiring them.
