The mail response from Doug to my inquiry, "I am sure sorry you feel like we owe you something. We can t and don t do high voltage electrical. Please call the person you purchased the equipment from or your electrician. They are the people that will/should help." The technician, Chris Gamble and associate were nice and seemed to be proficient at what they were doing but the job was left with a couple of items for me to do. They said that they did not have the electrical license to connect the high voltage leads and run the ground wire to the furnace, but that was all that was left to be done. Here it is September and I ve finally gotten back to this project (cold weather on the horizon and all). I connected the high voltage to the furnace and ran the ground, but the furnace will not activate. I have voltage at the power block on the furnace and the thermostat is confirmed working. There are a few issues with the service that was provided in June that I would like to take some issue with. 1. The furnace obviously needs some additional wiring connections made to make it functional other then just the power leads and ground wire. 2. The bill came to $286.73. a. Misc. supplies $20, o.k., not problem there b. 2 hours service $170, well, they were there for just about 65 minutes and at least 10 minutes of that was spent shooting the shit., so being billed for 2 hours seemed a little much. c. Service Master Referral fee for the lead from Quality Smith, $75, This seems to be just plain wrong that this cost is passed on to the customer directly like this. Nowhere in the website did I find any mention of the customer having to pay a referral fee. At the time I thought, well at least the job s done (except the final power connection) and I can move on. But in light of the fact that it appears that their was more to be done then just the power leads and ground wire it irritates me that I now have to write this email and continue to deal with this project. I would really appreciate a response to the concerns raised above and how your company would propose to address them. Thanks
Description of Work: I asking them to come out and complete the installation of an electric furnace in one of my rentals. This required making the electrical connections and adapting the existing duct work to the new furnace. To be fair, this all started back in April, but since we were into the warmer months, I didn't press the project vary hard. I used Angie's List to get some bids and I also made the mistake of using an online service to acquire 3 more bids. I had seven bids in all, including the low bid from Doug Hobb. He was quite pleasant during the bid and seemed very flexible in what options he would support in accomplishing the job. I went on to purchase a furnace myself directly from the manufacturer and proceeded to attempt the installation myself. I ran into a few snags I didn't feel confident in tackling myself, the electrical connections and the duct work adjustments required to transition from the existing duct work to the new furnace which was 4 inches shorter then the old furnace. I contacted Doug to see if he would come out to finish the job in late June. He sent out Chris Gamble and friend and while they did a half way reasonable job of dealing with the duct work, they said the were not electrically certified to deal with the high voltage. They made what they thought were the thermostat connections required inside the furnace and said I just needed to run the ground and connect the 220 power leads. I think I was overcharged by them on 2 fronts, one, they charged me a "finders fee" since I originally got them thru the web site and two, they charged be for 2 hours labor, why were *expletive* for 65 minutes and at least 10 of that was them bullshitting with me. Well I finally got around to that on 9/1 and low and behold the furnace doesn't work. Now looking back on it all I realize what a crappy job and overcharge the whole thing was. I contacted Doug to see if they would do anything about the overcharge or the fact that the furnace still doesn't work and his only response was "We can't do high voltage". Below is the rather long dissertation of what happened including the original email that I sent Doug asking for a response to the over charge and the fact that the furnace doesn't work. And this was his response to that letter. "I am sure sorry you feel like we owe you something. We can t and don t do high voltage electrical. Please call the person you purchased the equipment from or your electrician. They are the people that will/should help."
