About us

Spokane Home Design is a small, one man drafting firm that specializes in working with customers to develope ideas, dreams and visions into a working set of plans. With more than 33 years experience as a carpenter, home builder and draftsman, I am in a unique position to understand what works in a home and what won't. I have cut and built hundreds of stairs and so I know how much room they actually require. I have hung and trimmed thousands of doors and so I know which types should go where. Having worked with many couples in designing their last home, I have listened to literally centuries of experience in home living and cleaning and maintenance. Folks who have spent their adult lives restaining wood decks or cleaning the tracks of glass sliding glass doors don't want them any more. They want homes with simple features like wide doors and hallways to move furniture easily or perhaps one day accomodate a walker or wheel chair. Nearly everyone has the same list of things they want in a home, but the order of importance is always different. Coming up with the right order and proportions and spacings and lighting and sizing and all the rest involved with designing a new home plan is not work to me. It is fun and exciting and very rewarding. Many times clients will bring a copy of a floor plan they found on the internet or an open house and ask for me to draw a full set of plans with a few modifications. That saves a lot of time and that works fine. Other times I have people who have learned a plan-drawing software program and come to me with all the details worked out and just need a working set of plans drawn up and that saves a lot of time too. Other times I have had customers come with a bulging file full of clippings of ideas they like and want to incorporate in their new home. Other times I have had people come in with nothing at all but a few ideas in their head and we go from there to a full set of unique plans they take to their builder and build a home. I also have gone into several homes and cabins in Spokane and helped the owners draw up plans for an addition. Sometimes they know exactly what they want, some times they don't. It doesn't matter, we always come up with a plan and it is always fun.
