Response from Shoreline Concrete
I try to use every review as a tool to either learn from or praise my crew for the great work that they have accomplished. In your case your rated me as a "D" without any explanation. I was out on the date and time that was requested. I was there earlier then you were. You discussed the project with me, I took measurements and calculated the cost of the project, discussed the cost of the project and then went back to the office and wrote up an estimate and emailed it to you. A few days later you emailed me a question and I promptly answered. Approx. a week later you emailed me and stated that you had selected a different company. Which by the way doesn't bother me at all.

Description of Work: The company replaced our front porch & the first segment of our driveway with exposed aggregate concrete. They came out quickly to give an initial estimate for a larger job, but when we decided to scale back, we had trouble connecting to get a revised estimate for a smaller job. Once we had agreed on the job, scheduling it proved difficult. Eventually they showed up without having notified us in advance, on a day no one was home. The actual work is high quality, but the workmen left a mess. The next day another crew cleaned everything up nicely. So I might try them again, but would be clear on expectations for better communication and job site management.

Thank you for the review. I use every review to try and improve my company. I am sorry that you didn't receive the customer service at the level that my company normally gives. I made a major mistake in the months of May and June. I was roped in to taking part in the "Big Deal" by Angie's List and I couldn't handle the amount of calls and inquires that came in. I learned that I would rather have less work then give poor customer service. I hope that you would give us another try. I can guarantee that the customer service then you received this time. Excellent.
Description of Work: He patched a small place (about 3' x 3') in an old concrete driveway and matched the color and texture of the old concrete exactly. It blends in almost seamlessly. He really knows what he's doing, and he was on time and reasonably inexpensive.

Description of Work: I requested a bid for mudjacking my front walk. Estimator showed up as scheduled, quickly assessed and advised that mudjacking would not work well in my situation due to the thinness of the concrete, being old work from 1925 or so. Once the concrete lifts out of the pocket it sits in in the dirt, the pressure of the jacking fluid leaks out the side, so the amount of lift possible is limited to the depth of the pocket. I appreciated the honesty and not trying to get me to pursue a project that was likely to not be satisfactory.

good. Vern has a capable crew and was able to get the job done correctly and promptly. He basically came in and repaired a prior unsuccessful job that resulted in water leaking into the basement. They removed the old mortor and hole sawed a perfectly smooth hole in the foundation, then built a form and used the correct mix of mortor to reseal the hole and four conduits. They also patched the exterior of the foundation wall with black tar. For good measure, we dug a french drain to keep the water away from the foundation. It does not leak and the repair looks good. They did the work from start to finish in 4 days, and finished it on a Saturday too, so we could backfill the next monday.
Description of Work: hole saw 1' diameter through foundation for new conduit connection; build form and mix and install mortor around the 4 conduits to repair and seal the hole.

Great experience! They estimated the project would take a week and they were done in 3 days. Very professional, great quality work and they cleaned everything up when they were finished. They always came on time and worked diligently the entire time they were here. I would recommend them to anyone, and we would definitely use them again!

Overall we had a very positive experience with the guys from Shoreline Concrete. The bid was provided quickly and accurately and work began almost immediately. The jobsite was kept clean and tidy during the entire process, and I was well informed of the progress at each step of the way. The yard was excavated to and concrete retaining walls poured quickly, before my schedule got in the way of allowing the opening to be cut in the foundation wall for the doorway. Once this was worked around however, they crew was quickly back on task pouring the stairs, etc. The original bid was stuck to with the only cost overruns coing as a direct result of additional purchases requested by me. If I'm really searching, the only negative thing I could come up with is that the excavator was left on site (in our back yard) for longer than I would have liked. It would have been great if they could have picked it up right after completing excavation, but it wasn't a big problem to have it there for an extra week or so. I will absolutely hire Shoreline Concrete again for any future concrete work.
Description of Work: Installed exterior stairs leading to below grade basement. Excavated soil, poured retaining walls, facilitated foundation cutting for doorway, poured concrete landing and stairs, installed sump basin and piping for water evacuation and electrical.

"You get what you pay for..." Vance, the estimator, was an hour late for our first meeting to outline the project, and as I had an appointment, there was no time to ask all the questions or give all the dimensions to the project I needed to. I wrote an email upon receiving his estimate the next day, adding the kind of details other bids had provided, to make us feel better, all of which he agreed to. The bid was by far the lowest of four bids received. He gave us a date to start, and didn't show up. No call to reschedule. The workers showed up a week later, with an email notice in the morning, warning me that they were on their way. In spite of being shown where the sprinkler heads were, one was broken. The worker was able to fix it, but I had to make an emergency run to get parts (not what I had planned that moment). The workers were polite (smokers) and worked hard removing soil the first day. Some days later, they were back to build the forms. Several nice days passed, with no word from the company as to when they would pour the concrete, they finally came. As far as I can tell the pouring and washing was fine. I had to meet Vance at Mutual Materials to choose the brick. We wandered separately around Lynnwood/Edmonds for an hour before I finally called Mutual to find out what happened to their Lynnwood store-it was moved to Mukilteo. Once we met, and the brick was chosen, Vance tried to get me to pay for the bricks. I said no, I would pay for them as part of the overall payment. He said he would subtract it from the estimate, but I said "No, that's a hassle to keep track of, and it's part of your estimate, let's just keep it simple". No one showed to do the brickwork, so I called and said Vance had promised the job would be done by 5/11, after which they immediately showed up to lay the brick. Someone came to "clean up" the day I left town, and when I returned, I found lots of cruddy washed, dried concrete, some of it entangling the plants in my garden. That really burned my cookies, so I emailed and said I would pay the remainder when they came and picked up the bucket of concrete I had picked out of my landscaping. No one apologized, but someone showed up right away!
Description of Work: Soil removed, walkway formed, rock and mesh screen laid down, and concrete poured and washed, with brick inlay as spacers, for a walkway from the driveway in front of home to the fenced back yard.

Vance called me back immediately (within 1 minute), and after I explained the job to him, he advised me to call a handyman to do the work because it was so small. Because of the minimum his company charges, he knew it would be "ridiculous" to charge me their minimum. He also advised me on how much my job should cost. Vance definitely earned at least a bid on a future large project because of his responsiveness and honesty.

They were easy to work with. Offered a good price. They are poorly organized and often confused over billing, nature of the product and other things. Mistakes were made, but they were always dealt with in a timely and fair manner. A lot more organization would go a long way to making this a great local company.

They did a FABULOUS job. They arrived when they said they would, were very professional, and put more wood under my house than I ever thought possible. They made sure the room is absolutely level. I call the room my "earthquake room" because if there is ever an earthquake this is where I want to be. The room is rock solid. Every man on the crew seemed very knowledgeable and one of the men has been working for the company for 20 years. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: A room that had been added on to my house by a previous owner was tilting away from the house. The room needed to be raised up, leveled and fastened to a more secure foundation. I obtained 3 different estimates for the work; (1) $23,000 from a company who gave me an estimate on the phone (2) a very complete bid at $13,000: and (3) Shoreline Concrete a bid of $4,000! I was suspicious of the difference in price, however, Vance Bartleson, the owner of the company who has been in the business for 35 years and is quite a like able character, assured me that he would be doing just about the same work for $4000. In addition, I checked references before proceeding.

Generally OK, but there were weeks with no activity. It was 11+ weeks from when I signed the order until the first concrete was poured. There was little or no communication during this period and I was left not knowing whether they were expecting me to do something before they could continue or were just delayed by other work. All concrete was poured within a week in two separate pours. Quality of the finished work is satisfactory, but not exceptional. I would call myself satisfied, but not impressed. I would use Shoreline Concrete again, but would establish expectations up front as part of the project discussions.

Very competent and knowledgeable. They know concrete and how to properly install it. Also, they are nice people and they did cleanup well after themselves. Unfortunately, they don't really know how to run a business. They obviously overbook and job hop based on who complains most. They would show up for a few days and then disappear for a week. If you called to complain, they would say they would be out in a day or two, but not show up. If you complained a lot, they would show up again for a day and then disappear for a week. The problem with this is that we had a big 10 foot long hole in the side of the house. Somebody could have easily walked into the hole, pried off the boards I installed over the interior doors, and gotten into the house. The job should have taken 1.5 weeks, but took 1.5 months because they only worked a day or two a week (if we were lucky). There were several weeks where they didn't show up at all.
Description of Work: The basement in the front 1/3 of our house had short support walls and no floor. Shoreline put cribs in, took off the side of the house, managed to get a mini-cat under the house to dig out the area. After excavating everything, they installed the concrete walls and floor, and reinstalled the house supports. They then installed the shear walls per code. Easily passed inspection.
