We used the Angie's Service for a furnace checkup. The representitive checked over the old furnace, which we've been careful to have serviced once a year, and found a crack that was letting carbon monoxide into the air. He presented options and we picked out the furnace we wanted, whch is 97% effective. We also choose two extra options, one that would shut off the furnace in the event of a fire and one that would also shut off the furnace in the event of an earthquake. Universal Mechanical Service arranged for the permits and set up dates for the electrical and mechanical inspection dates. The installation went smoothly and everything was done with minimum interuption. We were very satisfied with everything and would definitly do business with them again, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Arrived on time. Was courteous and professional. Performed service. Gave some advice on life expectancy of furnace and water header.

The technician who came was very prompt, professional and knowledgeable. We just should have asked more questions about the cost breakdown of the repairs.

Service was great. On time, professional, and to the point. The details of the service were well explained both before and after.

Rhett did a good job and did not try to sell me unnecessary repairs, like replacement of the blower motor, as a previous company had suggested. He told me my furnace was older and probably not worth spending a lot of money to repair. Rhett was courteous, professional and competent.

I have an intermittent problem with the furnace not running properly and they didn’t really address or fix it. I continue to have the problem. I had no issues with having them out for the appointment but I would most likely not use them in the future because they did not address the issue I brought up.

They came on time and told me that the fan and its control board needed to be replaced and it would cost about $1,200. They charged me $130 for the inspection plus tax (about $142 in total) for less than half hour work. I didn't hire them as I found another company which only charged me for $800 for the same work. The service fee is too much and they charge 50% more than the company I hired.

It went well. I was informed that I need to replace the motor and water pump. This will be fixed later this week.

I can't believe it. I wanted was an estimate to replace a ventilation fan in the master bath. A week after they came out I got a canned follow-up e-mail saying "thanks for using us" when they hadn't yet provided any service but at least I knew they had my e-mail correctly recorded. I responded and asked about the estimate. Nothing. Then I called and left a message. I finally decided that I wouldn't want to use a company that was so lackadasical that they wouldn't even provide an estimate 10 days later. I called Bel-Red Electric and they came out, provided an estimate on the spot, and completed the work in less than an hour. With the Angie's List coupon, they charged a fixed price of about $151. As I was writing this review I finally got an e-mail with the estimate for the same work from Universal. They estimated just over ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS! The bottom line is that I would not use them.

It turned out great; he came out when he was supposed to and did what he was supposed to do; I think he went a little bit extra. We had a little problem and he found it and could fix it, he did not charge extra. He told us the temperatures were not good to do the air conditioner so we decided to wait on that. He was friendly. Once I got a hold of him, it was done as agreed to.

This went well. I had them check my furnace. The technician did a very thorough and straight forward job. My furnace was fairly new and I just wanted to make sure it was still running well. I had no hassles with scheduling or the experience.

They didn't need to do anything else, the guy was great, no problems, gave me some information that was very helpful so that was great. They were very good on quality, price, thoroughness and very pleasant.

I was very impressed with his thorough examination and cleaning of my furnace. He made some minor repairs without additional charge and gave me some advice on how to diagnose future problems.

I had to call the company to get the results of their inspection, after expecting them to send me some kind of evaluation. It had not come to me even two weeks after the inspection. I spoke to the tech that did the inspection, and he was very polite and seemed to know what he was talking about. I asked the company for an estimate to have the furnace brought up to their standards, and I did not receive one, even after another two weeks of waiting. Too much waiting and wondering.

Person showed up 45 minutes late. I was expecting more service, they did not do any cleaning of the filters or any other general cleaning of furnace, or cleaning out the debri inside the heat pump.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it turned out great. I did not have to pay anything extra and everything was ship shape on my end. That was the best purchase I have made so far. Everything was 10 out of 10 as far as I can tell. My furnace was in working order. I thought they might try to get me for more money, but they didn't. I think the price was a fair deal.

It went well and they performed exactly what we expected them to perform.

It was very good. They seem to be very professional and seem to know what they were doing. As far as I can tell, they did a good job. They made some recommendation about the life of our furnace and so on. I think I would use them again. The price was good.

Furnace service is, well, furnace service. But! Rhett, my service technician, arrived promptly, serviced both my furnace and air conditioner ad e-mailed a copy of his report to me.

Qwenton arrived on time, and was neat in appearance, polite and well spoken. He did our desired service in a timely manner with no additional charges to the agreed upon charge. I will call them again next time.

I bought 2 Big Deals for this service - 1 for our furnace and 1 for our a/c -the Angie's list site wouldn't let me purchase 2 despite the rules saying that two were allowed for this purpose so I called Universal directly and they were great. They didn't know what was wrong with the Angie's List site but she said I could just schedule the two services and pay for the second one directly to the service guy when he came. Excellent. The service guy arrived promptly and was very professional. It turned out that the a/c unit was not actually working properly and he discovered a part needed to be replaced. He decided it didn't make sense to tune the a/c until this part was fixed so he didn't charge me for the service and said they would just tune it when they came back to replace the part which was great. He said someone would contact me within 24 hrs with a quote on the new part. He tuned the furnace and also randomly helped with an issue with my hot water tank by showing me something I needed to do. I was super impressed with the service and would rate them an A++. However, the quote for fixing the a/c came a few days later and was $1000. I wanted to understand the cost breakdown for such an expensive repair but it was difficult getting answers and there was little follow-up. I had to keep phoning them and eventually got it scheduled a month later. Again, the service guy who came out was really great and professional and repaired the problem. It just seems the office is not so on the ball with follow up but the repair guys were very good. I guess perhaps $1000 repair may not be a big deal for some to question before moving forward but it was for me.

I requested an electric FA furnace tune-up July 25, 2013, from Universal, over 2 months ago. I paid Angie $50 referral fee. ( ps: Why is Angie charging fees for referring to contractors that they re supposed to be evaluating? Sounds like a conflict). Anyway, no work has been scheduled yet, or done. Please cancel this proposed work from a woefully inadequate responder. Angie, please remit my $50 fee, ASAP, thank you. K. Kerl, klauskerl@gmail.com

They were great. Very professional and thorough. Helpful about educating me about the furnace, which will eventually need to be replaced. They were not pushy about sales whatsoever. Really great experience. They will be my go-to company for future furnace services.

It worked out well from the get-go. Very easy to schedule. The technician Rhett came as scheduled. He was very courteous and seemed very knowledgable about my furnace, told me things that were very helpful. He had to go into the crawl space to get to the furnace but remained as positive and professional as ever. It was a very good experience, gave me a peace of mind and I would use this company and Rhett's services in the furture, definitely.
