Working with them to install ductwork in my 700 square foot addition was a nightmare. I worked with them for years and they were fine until the job got complicated. At one point, they ran ductwork right over a light fixture without talking to me. They asked the other contractor employed by me if it was okay and, apparently, he was fine with it, so AFMI went ahead and did it. When I talked with them afterward, they said that they probably should've asked me but? Oh well. I had to pay an electrician hundred dollars to put in a new light fixture? Otherwise I just wouldn't have had a light in the closet. At another point in the process, one of their employees put his foot through the floor (there were open joists at that point). They took responsibility for it verbally, but then billed me in full for what they'd done...as though I hadn't had to pay another contractor $800 to fix the floor they'd put a hole through. Awful!! I had to threaten to call my lawyer before they quit billing me! 9/4/14 UPDATE: Reader please remember who has a motivation to do something. I have no incentive to write a bad review where as the Company has a financial incentive to try to diminish the credibility of my review.

That is not true, [member name removed] told me personally to work with her General Contractor because she had to work and was not on the job site during the day. [member name removed] general had us run the ducting in the closet ceiling so as not to be exposed in the home, it really was the only way to get heat up stairs from the basement, He also told me he was dropping the ceiling and was to install a new light in the new ceiling. The general was the one who took out the electrical from the closet up front for us. [member name removed] fired this contractor and came back to the other subs and wanted them to change what was done with no change orders or compensation and we would not do that. The ceiling incident was one of our guys fault and we deducted the repair bill in full up front from the original contract and [member name removed] wanted to deduct it again at the closing settlement. She did pay all but the repair and i showed her several times where it was deducted up front. After several months of statements going out, I finally wrote it off as a loss to my business.

I heard that Advanced Filter and Mechanical did installations for one of the big box stores in the area, so contacted them directly to see if they could beat the Costco price I had. I talked to Dave Ross (Sr) who gave me a tentative price below Costco?s, and offered to come out to confirm his price. I accepted and he came to the house to look thing over. He not only confirmed his price but said if he used a system that was more efficient than I had asked for I would qualify for a $1200 rebate from Tacoma Power resulting in an even lower overall cost. Also, he said the more efficient system would qualify me for a $300 credit on my federal income tax. In addition, their coupon on Angies list would give me another $350 savings. I asked for a written proposal and it showed a starting price that was about the same as others I had, but with $1550 in discounts ($1200 from Tacoma Power and $350 from the Angies List coupon) that would be credited to me at the start (I would not have to wait for processing time at Tacoma Power) I could not turn the proposal down. There were a number of aspects of the boiler plate in the proposal that I did not like, but Dave made all the changes I asked for. I felt I had to watch everything they did during installation because low price often means low quality, but the installation team did an excellent job all the way with only minor exceptions which they corrected as soon as I commented on them. Juan, the installation team leader, was very gracious and answered all my questions cheerfully (as a retired Boeing engineer, I think I probably asked more questions than he normally had to deal with). He even did a nice job in widening the pathway around the house which the outside unit partially blocked (not a usual part of HVAC installation). They did two more things that were not included in the original proposal: they gave me a better quality thermostat than specified, and they installed a much bigger and more efficient heat exchanger coil which it turned out was required to qualify for the federal tax rebate. Installation of this coil significantly complicated the project. As detractors I can site that, as expected, two full days were needed to complete the job. But the scheduler did not schedule the installation crew for two consecutive days. So Juan and his helper Tim came back unscheduled on Saturday to complete the job. Also, I was supposed to get some paperwork that would justify and qualify me for the $300 federal tax credit; but it took 4 emails and three telephone calls after the job was completed to get the documents required. I?ll have to wait until income tax time to see if I actually am able to get the tax credit. Overall, I am very pleased with the results.

First of all, the technician came out on the wrong day and the person who was in charge of scheduling SARA ignored the calls for the rest of week. i had an appointment to service my heat pump the following monday originally at the same for my generator as well. Guess what? no one showed up!!! Sooo upset!!! I wasn't even home when my generator was serviced, fine, human error, it can happen. But the following appointment??? and when I called to rectify the issue, SARA basically flat out said "so are you going to make another appointment or not? simple as that, i said sorry, what more do you want?" the technicians never friendly or knowledgeable. I will never use this company again or recommend to anyone I know!

First of all (Member name removed), called in several times and kept changing the date & times of the service request based on her work schedule. This happens,Fine but it was made so confusing because of the 2 services requested and the time frames given by the home owner for us to perform the service. It was explained several times that this work could not be done in an hour time frame. We thought that (Member name removed) understood this, and after checking into this further am sorry to say that the information was so confusing and it was was not straightened out prior to dispatching the service tech, we take blame on this. (Member name removed) was offered a discounted on our end for the misunderstanding of the correct service time. But it was not taken and a new service time was not set up. Facts. On Oct 3rd we did go out to the home and service the Generator and (Member name removed) son was their, our time frame was between 11 AM to Noon with not enough time to service the heat pump due to prior scheduling with other customers, Randy could not stay and do the heat pump that day due again to the scheduling changes made. WE TRY very hard to accommodate our customers schedules but some times when a language barrier and not listing is involved it creates problems. We have apologized on our part for any mis understanding we may have caused and offered to re schedule for the heat pump PM service. I am sorry to say as an owner we were not able to rectify this issue up front.

I loved everything about them. Their salesperson, Nar, was excellent. The installer, Jose was absolutely wonderful. He took his time and explained everything to us. He went out of his way. The other point with Nar, I explained that I had a Rotator Cuff Surgery and not having a furnace would be a problem. And one of the deal maker with Nar was he could get the furnace installed. He had the discussion on Friday and I told him that I needed the furnace installed on the 30th or the 1st of May because I'm having surgery. He looked at his book and said "I can't do it right now." He got home and called me up. He said "We cancelled, one of our guys in the shop was going to do a friend of his a favor. We cancelled that and we're going to come up and do the job that you want if you want to do the business with us." I said "Yes, I do." That was something else they went out of their way for. They came in $800 less in advance. I would recommend them.

I called three contractors which were all Mitsubishi Diamond Contractors. I was interested in the Ductless Mini Split System. Advanced Filter and Mechanical located in Puyallup, WA was an Angie?s list member and selected them for the job. They were very responsive to my calls and emails until the job was completed. They did not install the outdoor unit (heat pump) I requested. I sent my Rep an email expressing my concerns. Over the next two weeks I called, text and sent mails and was never called back or any response to my texts or emails. I sent the owner of the company and email expressing my concerns and dates and copies of my calls, texts, and emails. An hour later my Rep finally called me back and said they would get this fixed. We schedule a meeting the following week. I was assured it would get resolved and they had a meeting with the Mitsubishi Rep in three days. Again my Rep never called me back over the next two weeks. I called the owner again and he informed me of his commitment to get this resolved to my satisfaction and the Mitsubishi Rep was trying to find the unit I had requested and it would take about a week. I waited two weeks and no call or email. I sent the owner and my Rep an email inquiring the status of getting this job completed and there has been no response. So now it is fifteen weeks since the installation and the job is not complete and the owner of the company and my Rep will no longer answerer my communications?.

That is Simply not true, (deleted member name) requested a Mitsubishi Model Number that is no longer in production, and it was replaced by the one installed, (deleted member name) was informed of this at time of the install. I have talked to (deleted member name) several time on this issue, and Mitsubishi does not make or will not make that model number, I asked (deleted member name) if the equipment installed is working correctly and the home is comfortable and was told yes. The model numbers installed matched the ARHI listing in order to get all the rebates and utility rebates requested by (deleted member name). I now am being asked to change out the indoor unit to a higher BTU rating only because he wants a model number that is no longer being produced. (deleted member name) has received the utility dollars and now wants to change the equipment out and i can not falsify the models installed after the rebates have been paid, I would be in big trouble for that. I have been told no from the manufacture and now i am being asked for free extended warranty for the same reason and was told no from the manufacture on that also THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with the installed units and all of our paper work has the correct information and models numbers listed. SOME TIMES the customer get information from the internet and does not research the product line further to see if that equipment is still manufactured. That seams to be the case here. I will bend over backward if the equipment installed has any issues, or does not keep up with the home. BUT i can not be responsible for model number changes or equipment that is out dated that is researched on the internet. David Ross

This installation was great. The work was done quickly and efficiently. All of the people were very professional and good at their jobs. The work was done with minimum disruption to the household and looks wonderful. We are impressed with the level of care to make sure the job looked good when done and not like an add-on to the house. There was a minor hiccup, and I want to mention this because it is also good to know that when something needs to be addressed then it is done promptly. When we contacted them about the issue there was an immediate response and appointment to address the issue. Everything was fully resolved and we were happy not to be told something like "well our schedule is busy and we'll get back to you as soon as we can", or other excuses we've heard from other companies. We look forward to staying cool this summer.

Yes we did go out and the Light company will rebate up to $3,300.00 on these systems but i thing the home owner thought the power company would pay 100% of the cost. That was the issue. We gave [member name removed] a bid and she would have had to pay the difference of about $1,500.00 for her system and they were not prepared for that. our note state once they are ready they will call us back. Very positive experience from start to finish. Company representative gave a very comphrehensive quote; explaining the whole process.Went over my requirements and gave me options that would satisfy those requirements. Time estimate from ordering the generator to job completion was on target. Workers were very professional. I had no clean up after job completion & they gave me a very good explanation of the generators operation & maintenance requirements.

The crew showed up on time and ready to work, introduced themselves, went over the project and asked if I had any concerns. The gernerator is not shipped with a battery for the internal power and suggested if I had not purchased one that the had brought one for purchase, which I took them up on. Everything went smoothly, exactly as planned, from start to finish. The even registered the generator with Honeywell so the system would be ready for operation with the weekly self test and run mode. The job site was always clean and the operational check with me and the end of installation went with no problems or corrections. They made sure I understood the operation when the generator came on line and showed how it would react after power is restored and generator shuts down. Very impressed and very pleased for a job well done! Thank You....This is the second gernerator install that Advanced Filter and Mechanical Inc. has been involved in with us.
Description of Work: We had a Honeywell back-up generator to installed which included natural gas connections from generator to gas meter to include conduit pipe, electrical wiring and cables from generator to transfer switch and main power panel. Ensured that all items are properly grounded, all permits are applied for and on site. Scheduled for L & I to come out for final inspection of installatioin and that all codes have been followed.

On Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, I had Expert Air Control perform what was advertised as a Maintenance Service on my heat pump and indoor heating unit. I learned of the company at the Puyallup Home Show the week before. After booking a date, I did an Angie Search and found the company had no reviews on file. Subscribers to Angie's List should be careful when hiring such companies. The young man who did the service arrived on time. I told him I had already had cleaned the electronic air cleaners so he would not have to. His expression clearly indicated he had not planned on cleaning the reusable filters. I listed some concerns I had. He took his tools into the house and began work on the indoor unit. The whistling sound which sounded like a bad fan bearing was reported to be the cabinet assembled improperly. NOTE: The whistling sound remains with the indoor unit. I asked him to check the sequencer and contactors as the unit's noise level has increased with age. The tech said he couldn't find any problems with the sequencer nor the startup contacts. NOTE:The increased noise level remains. I asked him how he was going to clean the indoor heat exchanger and he told me the only way to clean it is to remove it and that's not included in the service. I sure hope he never tells the other three technicians who have serviced the unit as each of them has cleaned the lint while still in the cabinet and dust off the indoor unit without any problems. Finally, after disassembling the cabinet the tech advised me the reversing valve was fine and never appeared to have been replaced. Since this is the third valve in the unit (the other work was done by companies certified by American Standard) I'm guessing it was replaced with a factory part. After he left the cabinet rattled and I had to re-tighten all the screws it appeared he had removed in order to stop the rattling. So, for $99 I did not get my outdoor unit cleaned, my indoor unit cleaned, and essentially what worked with noise still does. The only positive factor to this experience is the young man was honest, as he could have changed parts which were working and stacked the bill, but he did not. Again this is the third company I've used for maintenance and this was the quickest and in my opinion most poorly done job I've had.

I'm sorry you had this experience with our company, I will use this as a teaching opportunity for all my service technicians. I can tell you this is not the normal response we get from our MANY maintenance contract holders. We have hundreds of extremely happy customers who have given us many referrals to their friends and families which is the highest compliment a company can receive. Our reputation is SOLID as being a top notch company. The technician who performed this particular service is no longer with our company. In fact, we released him after less than four weeks. We hold our employees to very high standards and quickly learned this technician was not able to uphold those standards and was let go. I know we cant make everyone happy but we do strive to live up to our motto of "Expect Excellence" every day. I wish you would have called to let us know there was a problem and we would have sent a new technician out to your house to make things right at no expense to you. I can tell you from my 22 years of service experience and owning a business for 10 years, you should NEVER have to install three reversing valves in an outdoor unit I'm assuming that's why you were looking for a new service company to do your work for you rather than relying on previous companies that had done the original work. My hope is that you were able to find a company you are comfortable with to service your heating and air conditioning needs. Best of luck to you in the future!

I'm pretty leary about technicians so I asked A LOT of questions. He was happy to answer and put up with my watching. The TVX valve in the heatpump had quit working. He was here for 1 1/2 hours testing which cost just over 100.00. After verifying it didn't work, it took a week to order (this was during Christmas eve and day). It took 3 1/2 hours to install (due to disconnection and reconnecting copper coils), which was less then he had quoted previously. He did several tests to confirm it worked properly before leaving. I felt very comfortable using them and will be calling them for any furnace/heatpump service I need in the future.

The heating oil bills were sky rocketing so we decided to replace our old furnace (we affectionately called Mr Burns) with a heat pump. We contacted several companies for on-site consultation and bids. Advanced Filter and Mechanical, Inc. won the show down with a combination of the company representative, product, brand and price. The installation included a need to replace an inadequate electric service panel to supply the new system. The service panel was replaced a couple of days in advance so the furnace replacement could be accomplished in one day. After the system was installed, a tryout found a faulty component in the thermostat that prevented operation of the system. It was late in the day and we live an hour from any major metropolitan area. How a business handles adversities is important to us. The crew found a way to provide us with heat for the night in spite of the bad component. They came back the next day and worked within our schedule to get the system working properly. It has been over a month now and all is working fine. We really enjoy the Trane system. All of the company staff that worked with us through the entire project, from start to finish, were very professional, knowledgeable, pleasant and polite. The installation of the heating and air conditioning system and electrical was done with good workmanship. They always delivered what was promised and within the promised time frame. We would recommend this company to family and friends.

Just before Christmas our furnace failed and we were literally left in the cold. This was compounded with the fact I had a 6-year-old daughter with asthma and we were in the middle of a nasty cold winter. Our local hardware store had a TRANE kiosk set up with a rep from TRANE and Advanced Filter. Since I was already familiar with the TRANE brand from coworkers I scheduled an installation. Between scheduling the installation and our installation date winter snowstorms pretty much halted traffic. Advanced Filter was having trouble getting people to the office to get the installation done. So, what did they do? The only thing they could do. The company *owner* and the installation foreman (who were able to get in) came up to the house and handled the installation. They get all of my business now.. even for filters. Their service and professionalism are beyond reproach.

Our furnace went out, and we were told by another company we had high levels of cabon monoxide, and it needed to be replaced. The first company gave us a quote, and told us they would be about 2 weeks before they could come out. I have Fibromyalgia, and that just wasn't acceptable, any dip in temperature causes me lots of pain. So I said lets us Angies List get a second opininon. We found this company, good ratings, they were on the dot prompt, very nice men, we got a better furnance for the same price as quoted. 90 percent efficent, compared to the other company I believe said 80 percent effecient, and probably 2 weeks before installation! We got a nice discount thanks to Angies

I investigated different furnace brands on-line, then called the local Carrier dealer who had originally installed our furnace for replacement price. Found another dealer via Angie's list who sold Lennox and got a quote for a Yorx from yet another dealer. Home Depot offered Trane and the installation was via Advanced Filter. Not knowing who Advanced was, I jumped back on Angie's list and found that they had stellar ratings. I called Advanced and they came by to look at the house and suggested a couple of options. Finalized the deal and they installed a few days later. Perfect job.
Description of Work: Replaced our 12 year old furnace with a new Trane gas furnace. They were very prompt in getting a quote for a replacement furnace. Had to modify duct work for the new furnace and did an extremely professional looking job.

Arrived on time he went right to work on the check up I was told the furnace was in good running order, he then operated the thermostate found it faulty and offered to replace it with an upgraded version which I had him do. The work was done in about an hour and he was done. He like the kitties too and they entertained him while he as here...
Description of Work: I had the furnace checked out for winter. Last winter I had an issue with the thermostate communicting with the furnace and the emergency off switch. The furnace itself was in good condition, the emergency switch is old and needs an electrician, and the thermostate was upgraded the one I had was no longer working properly. We are reaady fro winter now.

The salesman's expierence was very good. Overall, paperwork was all explained to us (discounts, warranties and operation of the system). System seems to be working as described.
Description of Work: Repair man diagnosed problem with heat exchanger and heat pump. He determined that we needed to replace the system as a whole. Salesman presented several options and when we decided, we scheduled for installation. Installation was completed of the new system.

I have used Nar Lopez and Advanced Filter and Mechanical (AF&M) before so when my system went out at my other house I immediately gave them a call. After getting him out there the next day to provide a quote we decided to go with the high efficiency system listed above. They are always professional and do incredible work. Everything passed inspections with flying colors. I even qualified for a $2000 rebate from the local power company that was paid out to me in less than 30 days. The power company had to conduct tests and do inspections of the vents and system which all came back perfect. They were actually really impressed with the quality of work and the efficency of the install. My monthly electric bill has been cut in half and my house stays comfortable year round.

Our furnace started blowing cold air on a Friday evening. We had to call for repairs on Saturday and Advanced Filter came out on Saturday. Of course the furnace started heating once they showed up and the tech had some suggestions for what was going on. He stayed for awhile and, since the issue would not repeat, he left. Literally half an hour after he left it started blowing cold air again. My husband used some of the suggestions that the tech gave us and the heat started up again. It worked fine all week and then on the weekend it acted up again. Since they had already come out to the house once after hours the tech was not going to charge us extra for the call. Once again it worked while he was here. He made more suggestions as to what the problem was and left. We had heat, but it was intermittent. One more phone call and we reached an after hours tech who diagnosed the problem over the phone. We took his advice, and made the repairs ourselves for a fraction of what they were going to charge us. The technicians were very nice and professional - even though the first two had the problem all wrong. Problem solved, finally.
Description of Work: Two after hours calls to fix gas furnace, both with the wrong diagnosis. They both thought that the internal thermometer was tripping and stopping the furnace from overheating. But, the techs did give us a manual way to jump start the heat. One after hours phone consultation with the right diagnosis (bad board) and information guiding us in how to fix it ourselves = Problem solved!
