Description of Work: We had sections of our gutters where water overflowed and leaked. We thought maybe the gutters were clogged or sagging, so we asked to have them thoroughly cleaned out, checked to be sure they were properly hung and corrected. This company offered to perform this service and also offered a "gutter brightening" to clean the gutters' exterior for an additional fee. We figured, sure...clean the dirt, etc from the outside of the gutters while you are cleaning the inside as well. We were assured that it was a nonabrasive, "gentle" process by which they are brightened. We were told the crew would be at our house "in about a week and a half" to complete the work. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, I called to make sure we were still on their schedule. I was then told it would be about another week because they were behind schedule (we had gotten some rain, but it would have been nice to receive a call). Then on the day they were to show up and do the work, they showed up well past the time we were told, again without a phone call. My wife had to leave the house while they were doing the work and returned to find the guys with cans of spray paint, touching up sections of the gutter that had been stripped of paint from the brightening. In addition to removing paint from the gutters, their cleaning chemicals somehow got into our hummingbird feeder and our daughter's climbing plant was ripped down from the pole it had been growing on. I reported all this to Brett and he was very apologetic and genuinely felt bad for our daughter's plant. He offered to not charge us for any of the work performed. I thought that was very professional and the right thing to do. It left a not-so-bad taste in my mouth from this experience. But then, it rained. The original leaks, along with some new ones, are back and worse than ever. If the original problem had been corrected, I would be satisfied. But now I have more leaks than before they came, which is going to cost me more money to get corrected now.

Description of Work: Black mold and mildew streaks on several neighborhood roofs (including ours) prompted me and a neighbor to look into the problem in search of the best answer. A great many power-washing firms were willing to undertake the job using a range of chemicals applied under a range of water pressures, but with the assistance of glowing reviews on Angie's List as well as the technical recommendations of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer's Association we selected the "soft" cleaning approach used by Brett Thompson's firm: Blue Ridge Roof Cleaning of Virginia in Waynesboro. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. Brett and Brandon were extremely careful, very considerate of protecting the landscape plantings, and without charge did any number of little "extras", like caulking a leaky gutter corner while they were up on the ladder, ensuring that the windows were left clean, and even washing mold and mildew from a stone wall. It's difficult to describe in words just how fresh and new the house looks now, but I would urge any prospective customer to trust the "before" and "after" photos that Brett has posted in his website. There really can be that much difference! An interesting consideration: In our cases, Brett was able to give us firm, accurate bids without a preliminary visit by using county tax maps and their aerial photography of our roofs. And something else to consider: doing the job jointly with a neighbor who has similar roof problems might earn you both a bit of a pricing discount because of saved trips to the site.

Description of Work: Blue Ridge Roof Cleaning cleaned my badly stained roof. My roof was stained from the trees in my yard and even had moss growing in some areas. These stains detracted from the appearance of my home, and also concerned me about possibly shortening the life of my 40 year shingles. There appears to be some difference in opinions on the impact of these growths from trees on the life of your shingles.
