Description of Work: We bought an older house with an exterior-mounted tankless hot water unit. I contacted them first for a performance problem during a very cold period in the winter and a second time for maintenance. Both times they were professional, knowledgeable and competent. Recommend them for tankless hot water systems, they seem to be the "go to" firm in the area for those systems.

 + -1 moreI looked at multiple estimates and none had the "custom installation" detail at a competitive price as Fitch Specialties. This company was the only one who had a well devised plan for the use of motion sensors and circulation pumps to minimize the wait time for hot water. The attention to detail in the installation was second to none. Now that I have used the heaters for 8 months, I have to say I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend Rinnai and Fitch Specialties if you are considering tankless hot water heaters- they're worth the investment.
Description of Work: I had four Rinnai tankless hot water heaters installed in 2 locations (crawl space and attic) with my home in order to minimize hot water travel-time. Motion sensors and recirculation pumps were placed in areas most distant to the heaters.

 + -1 moreI was very happy overall with the service. Both men were pleasant and easy going and efficient with their work. The water heater they replaced was an 18 year old 40 gallon heater and they were able to get me a good deal on a 50 gallon replacement tank. While the suggestion was made to look into a tankless water heater, there was no undue sales pressure to buy into something that cost more than I was able or willing to spend. I called yesterday in the middle of the day and they were able to come by after a couple of hours to do a check and see what the problem was, and then had the heater installed completely less than 24 hours later - and I only lost hot water for a few hours while they were working on the system. They actually came earlier today than was originally expected, so there was significantly less wait time to get the repairs done. While they were here they also looked at my gas fireplace and attempted to repair the system here. Unfortunately the coupler has to be replaced, so they are going to attempt to order parts in order to save me from having to replace the whole unit. They are also getting me a referral for an HVAC technician to help deal with my furnace issue. Overall I am extremely pleased with the services and will definitely call them again if I have any other work they can do.

Description of Work: The company is VERY responsive - I was contacted immediately and the owner completed a very thorough inspection of my water heater and location (attic) and gave very comprehensive quotes for a tankless and a regular installation. I would have loved the tankless, but in my home the hot/cold water lines are between the 1st and 2nd floor so would have to tear out to see where they were to install outside (the preferred location cost wise). The attic install was possible, but very expensive and as I am retired I just couldn't afford that option at this time. I found this company very knowledgeable and the owner spent time with me explaining the options very carefully and looking at alternatives. This would have been my first choice if I had the funds available!

We checked Angie's List and found Fitch Specialties and decided to give them a call (it was 8:30pm). Tim answered right away and agreed to come out at 7:30am on Saturday to replace the water heater. He was there when he said he'd be there and he finished in a timely manner. He really saved the day and we never felt taken advantage of due to the circumstances. He gave us a quick written estimate that was detailed and there were no surprises. Very professional service.

 + -1 moreMy water heater started leaking after having it drained by another plumbing company. The other company tried to repair the leak but I think they only made it worse. I was worried that the boards would give way underneath the unit. I called on Saturday and Mr Fitch came out that morning. He was very professional and let me know exactly what I needed and what he recommended at different price ranges. Knowing basically nothing about water heaters, he was kind enough to go over all my questions and concerns. He sent me a few quotes via email that afternoon. I did some research and had a few other companies come out or give me prices over the phone. Theirs was the one I felt the most comfortable with. We had a tankless gas water heater installed Monday morning. I even needed some extra work done, because I would be renovating my garage later and they were nice enough to rip out the wall and put up drywall for me behind the unit. They were fast and cleaned up when they were finished. I had a few plumbing problems around the house that they graciously agreed to take care of for me. I would definitely recommend this company. They were great to work with.

He and his co-worker were very professional doing the install, they worked very neatly and did a great job cleaning up before they left. I would not hesitate to recommend or use them in the future.
Description of Work: Tim replaced our old hot water heater with a Rinnai tankless system. He had to repair the wall where the Rinnai was to be mounted and instead of using drywall and then using a piece of plywood to mount the Rinnai, he put a 4x8 sheet of birch plywood on the wall which made for a much neater and cleaner looking install. The Rinnai and drip pan are a much more compact system than the old tank water heater.

 + -1 moreFitch Specialties is a remarkably professional company dedicated to high standards in installing Rinnai tankless water heaters - and did an exceptional job retrofitting our home for tankless. The detail-oriented and exceptionally knowledgeable owner, Tim Fitch, took the time to fully explain natural gas tankless installation in my (attic) environment during the no-charge estimate and then followed up all my questions in the time prior to the Rinnai installation and even afterward. They kept the installation cost within the estimate, despite having to overcome some obstacles "built in" by the initial installation of the water tank in the attic when the house was initially constructed. They were on-time and worked efficiently and quickly, providing a very professional and courteous installation to meet our particular needs and then cleaned up afterward - making certain I was satisfied along the way - and even coordinated the city permit and inspection on the same day. I would recommend Fitch to anyone considering a new water heater.
Description of Work: UPDATE on 8/24/2015: Our tankless water heater continues to perform flawlessly and and receives annual scheduled maintenance from Fitch Specialties. They just finished additional work in our home - installing a gas line to the kitchen for conversion to natural gas, along with re-plumbing the sink and adding a "touch" faucet after counter tops were installed. Tim evaluated the gas needs in the house before adding the gas line, and recommended minimum specs for the new kitchen faucet (gallons per minute flow) in order for it to work well with the Rinnai tankless. Fitch Specialties has been very responsive when we needed their assistance on very short notice - most recently during the kitchen remodel when it was discovered during tear-out that the existing counter tops could not be removed without new shut off valves installed. The employees of Fitch Specialities are always courteous, cleaning up as they work, and make certain the customer is satisfied. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: Fitch Specialties installed a Rinnai RC98iN Ultra Series Condensing Tankless Water Heater in our residence. We had a 50 gallon tank in the attic and although it was not yet leaking after 13 years, we wanted it replaced for safety and peace of mind. After exploring different alternatives with a few plumbers to replace this tank, it was apparent tankless was the way to go in our situation and Fitch Specialities was the easily best option available given the professionalism of the owner. Tankless water heaters clearly are more expensive than the traditional tank water heater (a process literally invented in the late 1800's) but worth the price given their service life, warranty and energy efficiency. In my research of tankless manufacturing companies, Rinnai enjoys some of the best reviews.

Mr. Fitch had all his employees in another city doing a trade show, but he could hear the desperation in my voice; my husbandi is ill and I had absolutely no idea what to do. On the date of service we'd had a leak detection company come out to locate the major water leak that we'd been unable to find due to a strange set of circumstances. The leak was right near the water meter but draining almost directly underground into the storm water drain. After the leak was found it was obvious to me that we needed to get this repaired as soon as possible. When I called, I got his voice mail and indicated that the leak was substantial and I would really appreciate him letting me know asap if he was interested in such a small job. (Small to him, huge to us! About 500 gallons a day going down the drain!) He called me back within 10 minutes and within 2 hours of my call Mr. Fitch and his assistant had arrived and repaired the leak. They were both very professional, friendly and informative. I know who I'll call the next time we need a plumber!

The owner of the company does all of the complex work and fully explains the solution he will provide before the job starts. This has been my experience each of the three times I hired Fitch Specialties.
Description of Work: This was the third time I have hired Fitch Specialties. This last job was involved Fitch Specialties re-installing natural gas piping for a fireplace log set which had been installed by another company. Fitch Specialties corrected issues with the original work by the other company. Quick, courteous, clean and extremely professional approach to this job. Fitch Specialties had previously performed emergency repairs on the main water service pipe and valve system (entering from the street) at my house. Fitch also installed a tankless hot water heater at the same location. All work done per the proposal, on time, within budget.

 + 0 moreThese things are double the price of a regular gas water heater. Their estimate for the Rinnai was right in line with the other estimate I had. Great group to work with from start to finish. On time, professional, knowlegeable and full cleanup of all work areas. Got rid ouf my old gas water heater in the attic and put the new Rinnai on the outside wall of the house. Now I have no worry of flooding in my house from a busted heater and got rid of a gas line in my attic as well. Much safer install layout I think. Does take about a minute longer to get the iniital flow of hot water started, but it doesn't run out, .... ever!! (beware this feature if you have a wife and daughters). I also used their electrician for another job too, Premier Electrical, top notch outfit too.

He was the most knowlegable about the tankless systems and how to insure installation and future potential water leaks were mitigated. Tim recommended a sensor in the drip pan that turns off the water in the house if it becomes wet to insure that minimal opportunity for excessive water damage could occur.
Description of Work: Our existing hot water tank was located in our attic. Fitch Specialists drained and removed the hot water tank and replaced it with a tankless hot water heater that was vented to the outside via the existing venting available. They coordinated all of the city permits and inspections to insure that everything was done within code of the city of Norfolk.
