+ -1 moreWe took our four year old car and ten year old truck for an oil change and checkup within about two weeks of one another. This was the first time we had been to Dulles Auto Clinic. Robert, the Manager, told us that our vehicles were in very good condition and other than the oil change needed only such minor items as air filters and/or wiper blades. It was refreshing to receive scheduled maintenance without being told that we needed hundreds of dollars of additional repairs. When we asked about repairs recommended by a previous auto center that we had not had done, Robert explained that they were not necessary at this time. Indeed, he showed us the parts in question and otherwise explained their condition and when they might need future service. Although we ended up having very little work done by Dulles Auto Clinic, they sufficiently demonstrated their integrity, professionalism, and attentiveness to their customers? needs. Another indicator was the fact that several of the other patrons waiting for their vehicles appeared to be long-time customers. We very much appreciated the friendly, courteous service that Robert, Debbie and their mechanics provided. We will definitely be back.
Description of Work: Oil changes, air filters, wiper blades, courtesy checks on two vehicles. Cost noted above is total for both vehicles.

+ -1 moreThe mechanic made a suggestion because he said it would be more costly to spread the repairs out, and we decided to do them all upfront. That part upset us a little bit, because we didn't expect to have anything extra added in. The original estimate was lower, but already a little high. I felt they were honest, but it was not as smooth as it could've been. Depending on who helped me out, I'd use them again and might even ask for someone specific.
Description of Work: My mother-in-law's car had something leaking on her spark plugs. They did a 32 point check for free, and found out that it was a leaking gasket.

+ -1 moreI had to jump my car to get it started on Monday morning, and I was super frustrated because I've put out about $1,000 at other shops for repairs in the past 3 months. I jumped on Angie's List to find a better shop, and I found Dulles Auto Clinic pretty quickly. I called them, and they were able to fit me in right away. I drove right over and was helped immediately. They shuttled me back to my office in my own car and, during the drive, the technician pointed out that my State Inspection was due this month (I had totally forgotten!). I asked them to go ahead and do both the State Inspection and Emissions Test while the car was with them. A couple of hours later, the same technician called me to tell me that my start-up problem was caused by my old car battery (4 years old) and said that he had one for $103 (before labor, etc.). He also told me that my car had needed just a light bulb replacement to pass State Inspection. I authorized them to go ahead and replace the battery, replace the light bulb, etc. An hour later, the same technician called me back to tell me that my car was ready to go. I caught a ride over to the shop, paid the total bill ($226), and was on my way. I felt the price was reasonable, and I appreciated their good customer service. I will absolutely use them again in the future! I even suggested that my fiancee consider using them for our employer's auto repair needs.

+ 0 moreDropped my car off Sunday night via the convenient night drop off. They called first thing Monday morning to let me know the car required 2 new tires, and a serpentine belt. Plus the existing tires showed odd wear so they recommended a wheel alignment. I authorized the replacement of all 4 tires because the technician noted two of the tires passed by 1/32nd of an inch. Also had them proceed with replacing the belt, and the alignment. All work was completed by 4PM that afternoon. When I mentioned I did not like the quality of the existing tires. they were quick to recommend several good alternatives. I really like that they're brand neutral and available to install everything.

+ -1 moreI don't believe they even looked at my car. I think they charged me $32 to start it up, listen to it, and say "I think it's the water pump." But hey, at least they guessed right.
Description of Work: I had a bearing noise coming from the belt side of my engine, so I took my car to Dulles Auto Clinic for diagnosis and hopefully repair. Their website, which was the cleanest and most professional part of the experience, indicated that they offered shuttle service so that I could get to work after dropping off my car in the morning. Well, they don't actually have a shuttle at all, and made it seem like they were going out of their way to ride with me in my car, which obviously had a problem, to my work and then drive my car back to the shop. On the way to work, I asked about the Angie's List discount, and the guy, who worked the front desk, confided that they often don't know what their own website says because their "IT guy" puts whatever he wants on there (and Angie's List) without telling anyone else, so they don't know they even have coupons or specials until someone brings in a print-out! Anyway, they were supposed to call me in a couple of hours to let me know what they found and provide an estimate, but I had to call back around 2PM after not hearing from them all day. They finally called me back after 3:00 to tell me that they think it is the water pump. I say "think" because they told me that there was no play in the bearing and no sign of coolant leaking, but it was the only pully that didn't seem to spin smoothly. Oh, and they wanted $512 to replace the part that might have been causing the noise. Shocked at $512 for a water pump, I told them I'd have to pick it back up until my tax refund came a week or two later. They charged me $32 for the diagnostic, which seemed reasonable. I had my brother pick me up at work and drive me back to Dulles Auto Clinic because I wasn't comfortable relying on their "shuttle service". That week, I got the mid-grade water pump at Advance for $55 and $25 for other supplies, and spent 6 hours changing the pump myself in my parking lot. Surely, a fully equipped garage with trained technicians could have done it in 2. As soon as I took off the accessory belt, I could see a large ball of crusted coolant hanging from the end of the pump, the pully had about 1/4" of play in it, and it actually spun more freely than the brand new one since the seals were shot. I'm not convinced they even looked at it in the whole day it was there! When all was said and done, I saved over $400 doing the job myself with some instructions I found online. I also took the opportunity to preventively change the thermostat and do my own coolant flush for a fraction of the cost.

+ -1 moreI Dropped of my mustang as it needed a state inspection and I thought the brakes felt like there was something wrong. The inspection revealed a laking axle seal, which was replaced at a reasonable price. (lots of labor to replace a inexpensive part). Wayne called me later and took the time to explain exactly why the brakes were fine, and how he went about checking the car. He took the time to answer my questions. I only wish I found them earlier.
Description of Work: I had a State inspection, which revealed a bad axle seal and I had them diagnose a perceived brake issue.

+ -1 moreI found this shop after making a disaster out of an oil change. Basically, the car slipped off a jack which ended up smashing the radiator, air conditioning condenser, and a few other parts. Once I realized I was in over my head the car was towed to Dulles Auto Clinic and they quickly put everything back together. After seeing their professionalism, speed, and quality of work I have never considered using anybody else. The “jack incident” was $1200, rack & pinion was $800, quality of work = priceless.
Description of Work: This shop has done everything from troubleshooting “low tire pressure” warning lights to replacing the rack & pinion in my car. They do the yearly Virginia state inspection for my vehicles, brakes, locating annoying squeaks, and overall maintenance.

They had mixed the antifreeze in New York and it went bad. The car wasn’t doing good at all. I had to get it cleaned up before it broke down on me while on the road. They had to clean it out 4 times. They had to clean the entire engine. The liquid in side is clean as ever. They did a fantastic job. They were professionals. The clients were all happy and talked to me for some time. The clients had been going there for quite some time.

We have six cars and they have done a lot of work for us. If I take another car there, I just go, they know me by name, I drop it off, wait, and drive it home. Everyone over there is great, friendly, and honest. If you have something that didn't suit you, they will work with you to make it right.
Description of Work: They have one of ours cars right now. It is a 1964 Daytona Coupe and it has something wrong with the electrical system. He has been working on it when he has time and no one, not even the person who built this car, can figure out why it has this electrical problem. We had our Tahoe in there for an oil change and inspection. They replaced the brakes, flushed the transmission, and did body work.

+ -1 moreWhen they inspected my a/c, they realized that they were unable to apply the coupon. I need a more serious repair on my system that the Big Deal doesn't cover it. It’s such a specific deal that they can’t apply it so they suggested calling about getting a refund. They changed some bulbs and did their complimentary 30-point check. They really gave me great service. I’ll give them a high rating. I also like that they were very honest. I know that mechanical garages are sometimes dishonest, but I would recommend that people use Dulles. It’s a bit of a drive outside D.C., but it’s worth the drive because of their honestly alone.
Description of Work: I took my car in to use a Big Deal that I purchased, but ended up replacing 3 bulbs and doing a complimentary 30-point check on my car.

+ -1 moreTheir service was fine. The gentleman I was having service my vehicle no longer works there. I follow him wherever he goes. They could replace the lady at the front desk because she never smiles. Her people and personable stores are very bad. When you go into a business and someone smiles and invite you to be there, which she never does, it helps. The positive side is because the gentleman who worked on my vehicle was incredible.
Description of Work: They did a lot of auto service on my vehicle. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. They were able to keep it up. They told you what needed to be done. Then you could decide if you wanted to do it or not. They would let you know if something needed to be done right away or if it could wait.
