Awful just awful, these people need to be turned in to the BBB. Told my tenant we needed a new garbage disposal with a quote of $600.00 - $800.00. They called me and I said no I would send my own people. They went into the house and told the tenant I authorized them to fix the drain, I DIDN'T. They tried to strong arm her into a bill for $560.00. They actually scared her. I have been in property management for over 25 years, the tenant is new and didn't realize she needed to call me first. These guys need to be fired. I heard later My Plumber fines their guys if they don't sell $2000.00 a day. If that is true this business has serious problems. To make it clear as there are many companies out there, this particular company is owned by Wendal Presgrove. Shame shame shame.
Description of Work: Called for clogged kitchen sink. Made them leave.

Response from My Plumber Heating Cooling & Electrical
Dear Member: We take great exception to the comments you have made. My Plumber Heating & Cooling, a family owned and operated company, has been in business for 30 years in the Northern VA area. We have an outstanding reputation, as evidenced by the numerous Ethics and Community Awards that we have received. As such, our reputation is very important to us- much more important than any dollar. We would like to point out that we did not collect ANY money from either you or your tenant. All of our work is 100% guaranteed. Our goal is and always has been to provide 100% customer satisfaction. Following is our account of what actually transpired. Morgan P. called us on July 30 at 10:54am to report that a kitchen sink garbage disposal was leaking and not working. Our customer service representative advised her of the $79.50 dispatch fee and offered a 10% military/senior citizens discount. At that point, Morgan verbally agreed and made the appointment. At 11:58am, we dispatched a technician to the home. Upon arrival, John D., a Master Plumber with 30 years of experience, knocked on the door and was permitted entry. After diagnosing that the issue was indeed a garbage disposal, which was also clogged with potato peels, John D. offered his estimate of $576.39 to fix the problem. At that point, he learned that Morgan was a tenant and not the landlord. He advised her that he needed to speak directly with the landlord. However, he was given your information and tried to contact the ‘landlord’ for verbal approval. He was under the assumption that you were the landlord, not a property manager. After being told by you that the work on the disposal would be handled by another company and that the clogged kitchen sink was the responsibility of the tenant, he requested the $79.50 dispatch fee from Morgan. She did not want the kitchen sink to be fixed and would not pay the dispatch fee, so he left. There was NO intimidation from him at all. In short, we feel that you and Morgan have treated our company unfairly and unethically. Morgan requested our service, and as per the verbal contract, should have paid the dispatch fee for the time it took our technician to drive there, diagnose the problem, call you, await a response, and then drive back. To date, we have not pursued monetary remuneration from Morgan. However, we are very concerned with your comments about scaring her and fining our guys if they fail to reach a quota. Both statements are utterly false. In fact, we perform extensive background/criminal checks and drug-test each of our employees. We don’t fine our guys for quotas. In fact, we just won the 2011 Contractor of the Year because of our excellent employee relations. As per your own statement, we believe that this situation would never have occurred if you had advised the tenant of her responsibilities ahead of time. Consequently, we would appreciate your retraction of your comment posted on Angie’s List. If you have the time and would like to discuss this further, please contact me at 703-367-7936. Regards, Gette Smith

frustrating and felt like they didn't even know what was going on since a month later the technician seemed to see "the easy fix" the earlier technician missed...
Description of Work: I was very disappointed because I paid for a coupon and my AC quit the morning they were scheduled to come out. They did apply the coupon after some discussion, but they came out 4/17 originally and didn't find the problem they came back out on 5/21 to fix so I paid another $300 to get it fixed finally....

They were expensive but they did a good quality job. They were professional. They were here for a very, very long time so I got a good deal considering the amount of time that they were here. They were really expensive. We would only use them as a last result but they have a 24 hour service. I wouldn't use them for a small job. They are a good company for big things or an emergency.
Description of Work: We used My Plumber to fix a sink. They had to fix a leak in a bathroom that went all the way down two floors. They found the leak. They had to put in a new spigot for the bathtub. They fixed a toilet. They also did something else.

We called My Plumber and were sent someone from Acclaimed Plumbing, Inc., which works with My Plumber. Metal from Acclaimed was *fantastic* to work with. Their prices were steep, but Metal told me that they found and fixed way more problems than I was actually charged for, so I think I got a good deal in the end. Our gas line and plumbing is all original to the house, 50 yrs old, and in bad shape. When the (somewhat bigger, better quality) new hot water heater that they brought didn't fit with the line we had, they installed all new line to house it. Metal and his crew were thoroughly professional throughout the entire project, were incredibly thorough in their inspection of our lines, explained every problem they found and what needed to be done to fix it, and did everything possible to keep the costs down. At the end, we called Washington Gas to turn the power on (this was on a Saturday) and they refused, saying they couldn't send someone until Monday afternoon. Metal got on the phone with them, explained exactly the work he did, and convinced them to send someone immediately so that we could cook and heat our house. Metal and Acclaimed were easily some of the best service professionals I've dealt with in the 12 years I've owned my home, and I can't recommend them strongly enough. UPDATE: I hate to blunt my original great review, but on inspection of our house's plumbing, another plumber found a minor but unsafe mistake made in the piping installed with our hot water heater. The angle at which it joined the main pipe stack was wrong, causing small amounts of carbon monoxide to vent into our house every time the heater went on. I called Acclaimed/My Plumber and attempted to explain this, and was asked to provide pictures before they would dispatch anyone. This bothers me a little, as it assumes that everyone owns a smartphone or photo software/usb capable camera and can easily do this. Thankfully I do, and they were quick to send Metal back out as soon as they got the photos. Credit to Metal, he understood the problem right away and fixed it quickly (and did not charge us). I appreciate how quickly the problem was found once detected, but I'm not happy that the error was made in the first place-- the other plumber told us that this is not only unsafe, but would have derailed the sale of our house during the buyer's inspection (we're getting ready to list our house), and it seems like an odd mistake for someone so experienced to have made.
Description of Work: We started with a gas leak and the need for a pressure test to find the leak. The plumber found several leaks, necessitating all new gas-line plumbing all through my furnace closet. They also found a crack in my hot water heater. They replaced all of this line/pipe work, new gauges, and new hot water heater.

I made an appointment with My Plumber to come out and fix a leaking faucet. The dispatch fee of $80.00 would be waved if I accepted the estimate, which I thought was reasonable, and better than other plumbers I have hired. They called me one hour after the start of the 4 hour arrival window to say they were behind schedule but should be on their way in an hour. I never heard back from them again and 15 minutes after the arrival window had ended, I called them to cancel. They tried to talk me out of canceling by putting me through to dispatch. While I was on hold for over 5 minutes, a recording kept telling me "your estimated wait time is less than 1 minute." I eventually hung up and called back to cancel. I will never call them again.

Very pleased overall, especially with the reasonable repair price.
Description of Work: We had a pipe burst in the wall late one evening. My plumber answered the phone right away but was unable to send anyone until the next morning (hence the poor grade for responsiveness). My husband was able to turn off the water to minimize the damage, and the plumber came right on time the next day. He made the repair, showing me what had gone wrong, and cleaned up his mess afterwards. Very professional and very pleasant. And I was not shocked by the price for the repair, either.

See above Also, when I was out of town and had my daughter meet MyPlumber for a repair, they wouldn't give my Priority Club discount because 'the discount is for the member, not the address'. How stupid is that?
Description of Work: I joined MyPlumber priority club and have had several plumbing jobs and recently had a water softening system put in as part of an emergency well repair. They came immediately and installed the system in a timely and professional manner. I wish I had gotten another estimate because after the fact I felt like they may have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge of the situation. They also never told me the system was going to require several hundreds of dollars of maintenance each year. However, for the inspection services that are included in the priority club, they have never come when scheduled and it took four reschedules for someone to show up on time - that was four wasted days for me. The technician could barely walk up the stairs, did not bring a ladder (which I had to provide), only changed 2 of 10 filters (included in the 'club' and the reason I purchased the program) and I later found out he took the filter assembly out of the electronic air cleaner and left it on the floor uncleaned! It has been my experience that the services included in the club are only provided if they do not have another paying job to perform. For an actual repair, they show up immediately. But I feel the prices are high and they always come up with other services I 'need'. Most of the plumbers that have come we're in poor physical condition and I seriously worried when they had to climb stairs or get on the floor. I feel I have to stay with them until the warranty is up on my expensive water softening system. After that I will change providers and will definately research plumbers on Angie's List first!

Both times I was very pleased. He wrote the estimates on the receipt for future reference whenever I decided to get the work done.

My garbage disposal gave out on Thursday afternoon, 31 May. I called My Plumber and asked for someone to come the following day. They gave me a timeframe of 7:00 - 11:00 A.M. and I was called o/a 7:00 A.M. and told that the plumber would arrive within 45 minutes. He arrived on time and he determined that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced. He replaced the garbage disposal in about 30-40 minutes. I was charged $588.55 (which included a 10% senior discount, so the actual cost would have been a whopping $653.95). I was called by My Plumber later in the day and asked whether I would call them again in the future and I said "sure" but that was before I talked with some friends who believe I was ripped off big time. They told me that there is no way on earth I should have been charged $588.55 to have a garbage disposal replaced and that I was probably charged such a high rate because I'm a senior and a woman! The price did seem high to me but I haven't needed a new garbage disposal in many years. In the future I plan to hire a handyman instead of My Plumber.

I had 3 estimates and My Plumber was in the middle and since they could actually do the work that day I decided to use them. Actually they are the ones who installed my old water heater and it lasted 15 years with no problems! The great thing was that the technician found out that I didn't have to have the more expensive job done that the other 2 companies told me. Since I have an older house it was initially thought that I needed to have all the piping replaced since it was too small to accommodate the new bigger water heater according to the new "code" regulations. It ended up costing me half of what I thought it was going to, and also they gave me my military discount on top of the new price. I REALLY appreciated that they were honest with me and told me I didn't need the piping replaced; they didn't need to do that ; I would have never known. The Technician was very nice and accommodating , as well as the folks in the office. He also checked out my dryer vent and told me it was really bad and needed to be replaced and was a fire hazard. So why do I rate them a "B" with all these positives? It is because they told me I would get a letter about a mandatory inspector coming out to check out the job and I have never received that, and I am not sure what that means. They also were willing to do the dryer vent cleaning , but at a cost of over $300! I was able to get the job done by a great company for $89! I called My Plumber office and told them that was a ridiculous price , even another plumbing company would have done it for $100 less. So I don'[t know what that means , perhaps a dryer vent cleaning isn't cost effective for them. But I will definately use My Plumber again.

My gas hot water heater sprung a leak and need to be replaced. I bought a water heater from home depot and had My Plumber come out to see how much it would cost to install it. They said that they could not install the water heater that I had bought and that it had to be a special water heater. I did not have hot water or heating at the time so I had no choice. They quoted me for about 3000 dollars to install the special water heater the next day. They arrived on time the next day but with the wrong sized water heater. And just like that, half my day was wasted. They were able to get the correct water heater and install it in the same day. The guy left a mess and left me to install the electrical receptor for this new special water heater that they said I needed. I was already upset at the price, the mess, and that I had to install the electrical socket, to make things worse, I found my carpet soaking wet the next morning. Low and behold, the new water heater connection was leaking. I had to get ServPro to tear up my carpet and install three dehumidifiers and heaters to prevent any mold from forming. My Plumber came and fixed the connection but my home was 90 degrees now because of the water drying equipment. I had to vacate my home for three days and even though they replaced the carpet two weeks later, it does not look as good as the one I had previously installed six months prior and you can see the carpet connections between rooms. It looks really lousy. After all this, My Plumber was only willing to give back 300 dollars. After I did some research, the water heater costed about 800 dollars which means I have paid about 1900 dollars for this terrible and awful service that should have only taken about four hours and ended up taking about two weeks. My pregnant wife was extremely uncomfortable and so was I because of my full time job and graduate courses that I was trying to complete at the time. My advice, DO NOT HIGHER MY PLUMBER, GET SOMEONE ELSE.

We had a stopped up drain in our shower and I was calling around A-listed plumbers to see if someone could come out for same-day service. Unfortunately, My Plumber was the only company that could get someone to our house. On some of the calls with other plumbers, I was told to expect a cost to "snake" the drain of $150-$175. When My Plumber arrived, the guy was very courteous and professional. The problem was that he quoted me a cost of $330 to do the work. I declined to use them due to the high cost and ended up buying a "snake" from lowes myself and doing the work to fix the drain. I'm sure they do great work, but the cost was way too high for my taste.

It went OK only because we got 2nd and 3rd opinions... and discovered My Plumbers Heating and Air inflates their costs!
Description of Work: I bought the Angie's List Big Deal for the plumbing and HVAC check. Both the HVAC person and plumber did a thorough job... but (thankfully) we got second and third opinions! My Plumber Heating and Air charges way too much!! For example, the HVAC guy wanted to charge us $250 to clean our AC fan... whereas the other company did it for $45!?

Response from My Plumber Heating Cooling & Electrical
Thank you for your feedback Member. My Plumber Heating & Air is a flat-rate company. We quote our customers our prices upfront before we began any service(s). We are not a time and material company. We don't charge customers more if a job runs into a problem. Regarding our quote to clean your AC coil, we use chemicals which take time to react. We don't use water which the other company probably used at the $45 price. Water makes the AC coils brittle, thus decreasing the life of the unit. We back up all of our work with a 100% Guarantee and the BEST warranties in the industry. We hope you will give us a call should you need quality AC services in the future.

A My Plumber plumber came out to give me an estimate on replacing a shower P-trap for my shower renovation project. I figured I'd let the much faster pros do it rather than tackling it myself. The guy who came out was professional, and spent a good 10 minutes giving me suggestions and providing me with a good solution to my problem. The price they quoted was quite high, but I very much appreciated the free estimate (they waived the service response fee) and the insight he gave. No hard sell, no pressure tactics, just good advice.

Good job done but way way way too expensive. a Royal rip off.
Description of Work: Due to a sewage backup, a 5 foot ditch was dug and 3 sq feet of concrete in a far corner of the garage jackhammered up to replace an old pvc sewer line with a new 10 foot length of pvc pipe. Then the holes were filled in. A reasonable cost for this work, 2 men 2 days would be around 1500. Instead they billed me $5740. even before the work commenced and provided no breakdown of how they arose at that ridiculous price. Later I heard that they were the most expensive plumbers in Northern Va. I should have check here first.

Recently had a water leak in my home. Associate from My Plumber responded very timely. He was very professional and thorough, indicated that I had a leaky toilet and valve. He took pictures even contacted Serv Pro to have them come to my home. This is the least I would have expected for a $175 diagnostic fee, before the 10% discount. This amount was not even deducted from the final bill since they did the work. What added insult to my already bad day was they charged me $730, before the nice 10% discount to replace the toilet and valve. They only offered two toilet models and would have charged over $400 just to install a toilet if I bought it elsewhere; which should have been my RED flag. Would never call this company again, their pricing is outrageous. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay $80, service call fee, just to find that out. Now knowing that I could have purchased this same toilet for About $160 - I feel like I've just been raped. The technician spent about 30-40 minutes installing the new toilet.
Description of Work: My Plumber was contacted to diagnose I leak in my home. The leak ended up being caused by a toilet and primarily valve on the third floor of my home. In addition to identifying the cause of the leak, My Plumber replaced my toilet, their suggestion, and cutoff valve.
