We just bought the house last year knowing that the HVAC system would need to be replaced in the future, we just didn't know that it would be as soon as it was. Our upstairs unit stopped heating and the outside compressor unit started making a horrible noise. I called the home warranty company and they sent out Chuck and Perry from AireForce Heating and Cooling. They did some diagnostics and found out that the whole system was void of Freon and oil which trashed the compressor outside and was the cause of the horrible noise. It was a SEER 10 system and was the original system installed when the house was built 20 years ago and they recommended replacing it. They were great about working with the home warranty company to do a cash out option for us to put toward the new upgraded SEER 16 system. They were also very great at explaining how the system would work and the efficiency that we'd get from a new system. We decided to go ahead and replace the entire system (both the upstairs heat pump and the downstairs furnace) in order to get the most efficiency and the best price. They were punctual and professional during the install process. ****UPDATE**** 9/19/2013 - I DO NOT recommend this company!! I repeat I DO NOT recommend this company in the least! We have had nothing but problems with these units after they were installed and trying to get a hold of anyone at the company to get someone out here to fix or repair them has been a headache to say the least. Not even a week after they were installed we had our first problem with the upstairs unit running non-stop and not shutting off. Not only that, but it was running on the emergency heat too. Two weeks and a $400 electric bill later - and after finally convincing them that it wasn't an issue with the way we had the thermostat set, they finally sent the tech back out (Eric) and he diagnosed the problem as having a faulty board which he'd have to order and return later to install it which took more time. THEN, summer came and we turned the A/C on for the main level and basement and it too did not work. Since I was deployed to Afghanistan at the time, my wife had to try to get a hold of them to come and see what the problem was and get them to fix it. After three months and numerous calls to the office and messages left and emails sent, the A/C still was not working. I returned from deployment at the end of July to a wife who was 9 months pregnant and a sweltering house. After threatening to contact Rheem directly and the Better Business Bureau AND leave negative feedback all over the internet, I finally got their attention enough for them to come back out and check the system again. The problem - another bad board on the opposite unit. They ordered it and we waited approximately another month for them to come out and install "the board". Once it was replaced the A/C began blowing cold air again. Keep in mind, the system was installed in February but we didn't have A/C on the main level of our house until August....nearly $15K for a system that we couldn't even get use out of during the hottest months of the year. NOW it's the end of September and we turned on the heat on in same downstairs unit to take the chill out of the air a couple of days ago, and yet again it malfunctions. Instead of it operating as a two stage heat pump as it's designed and only using the gas furnace as an auxiliary back up for when temperatures get too cold for the heat pump to function - it goes directly to auxiliary heat and burns only gas. I emailed the office and asked for them to call me back and set up a time to come out and fix it but, so far, nothing. We are in the process of obtaining legal counsel in order to sue the owner and the company for a full refund and for them to remove the whole system. I've heard Rheem makes good stuff, but we have zero confidence in our systems due to the problems and issues we've had with it. Save yourself the headache and discomfort and just pay the money to go with a company that is reputable. I found out that this company obtained its license about two months before they installed our systems. But because I assumed that since the warranty company sent them here, they automatically had a good reputation. I couldn't even find feedback on this company when I started looking for it. Also, another indicator I never thought of that is a tell tale sign = LOOK FOR AN ADDRESS! if the bids, work orders, website, etc. do not list an actual address or storefront BEWARE!! There's a reason they don't have a physical location.
