Description of Work: They refurbished my beloved 1940s portable Singer, a gift from my grandmother, who always said it was her favorite machine. They replaced the cord which was fraying and all the belts, and did a maintenance. They were done the same day even though I was prepared to leave it. I had put off taking it for service because I didn't want anyone to ruin it. They treated it with the care and respect I was hoping for and were also so quick. I would definitely use them again.

Description of Work: They were friendly and responsive. My 46-year-old machine needed a thorough cleaning/oiling and had some broken parts needing repair. He explained all the work in detail, explaining why parts had failed and ways to help avoid future problems. The work was completed before I needed my machine again, so I was thrilled. It feels like new again.

Description of Work: Cleaned and serviced an old sewing machine. Very informative. Machine runs like new!!!!! Friday afternoon, estimated it would be ready the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Called less than 24 hours later and it was ready!!!!!!!!! We will be bringing sewing machine here for regular care and would recommend this business highly.

Description of Work: Replaced electronic board on sewing machine. Touch screen works now! Only bad parts of the experience had to do with Pfaltzgraff, as it took about one month for them to get the part to Sun Sew Vac and it was very expensive.

Description of Work: I brought in my sewing machine for repairs. Despite the fact that they sell sewing machines, they did not try to pressure me to purchase a new machine. They were responsive to my needs. As a result, I felt comfortable asking for a demonstration of a Miele vacuum cleaner and ended up purchasing it when I returned to retrieve my sewing machine. The owner threw in a complimentary box of vacuum bags, assembled the the vacuum for me, and brought to my car for mr. That is old fashioned, top notch customer service. I will return when I am ready to upgrade my sewing machine! I highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Completely serviced my Melee vacuum cleaner. I bought it used from a co-worker, did not know how old it was, and used it for almost the past two years, when I noticed that it was not working as well as when I bought it (even though I cleared out all hair and debris after each use, replaced the filters and bag when appropriate). When the vendor returned the vacuum to me it was like new. Worked better than when I bought it. Excellent work. They oftentimes post coupons on their website and I used one.

But he looked it over and said it just needed a 'tune-up'/ Came back a few days later to a vacuum I didn't recognize at first; it was cleaned and shiny and looking new! For a small fee for the tune up my vacuum is working great. He saved me hundreds of dollars buying a new one I didn't need.
Description of Work: they repaired my Riccar vacuum.

 + -1 moreI had a singer sewing machine that I broke pretty good. Sun Sew Vac was able to fix it, even though it took longer than expected the machine is fixed and I felt the business was trustworthy. Overall a good experience.
Description of Work: I messes up my Singer sewing machine and wasn't sure what was wrong with it. Sun Sew Vac took a $30 deposit to investigate and they figured out what was wrong pretty quickly.

 + -1 moreMy sewing machine was in need of some routine service and also the reverse stitch button had stopped working. I called a place closer to my house, but they did not feel like they could address the reverse button. So based on all the rave reviews on Angie's List, I called Sun Sew Vac. All the folks there that I dealt were very personable and knowledgeable. They were clear on the cost of the tune-up and said they would call me about the reverse button before doing any work. When the tech (Robert?) did call, he said the button had just been knocked out of place and the repair would be about $15. I am very pleased by my interactions with them and will gladly take my grandmother's Hoover vacuum into them when it needs repair. They had the right attitude about fixing things that work, instead of throwing them away just because they are old. My only complaint about Sun Sew Vac is that they are so far from my house--and don't have the best hours for someone who works in the District. I can only get there on Saturdays, but it was still worth it.

Description of Work: I have purchased 4 vacuums, 2 sewing machines, and a serger machine from Sun Sew Vac over the years. I have also purchased a cutting table, sewing machine cabinet, and numerous accessories, and attended many sewing/embroidery classes at Sun Sew Vac. I felt compelled to write Angies List to share my experiences with this incredible establishment. The owner and his staff have always been accommodating, professional, and will bend over backwards to make sure that you are 100% satisfied. When I have experienced any sort of problem with any piece of equipment that I have purchased over the years, it was repaired or replaced without question.

After discounts for American Sewig Guild and for paying cash, the final bill ended up being about $40 less than was originally quoted.
