Murphy Family Electric

A bunch of different, seemingly unrelated, outlets and switches blew out in my house but tripped no circuit breakers. The contractor who had remodeled my house two years ago had come over and checked all the suspect outlets and couldn't find the problem. The places were strange--outdoor lights, m/w, kitchen ceiling lights (rest of kitchen was okay), dining room chandalier, foyer and a basement light and one socket. Most important was my garage door opener. Go figure. Murphy's sent out one electrician who spent hours and was as mystified as my contractor. Although he got everything up and running the same things blew again that night which suddenly became a bigger problem since my car was trapped in the garage. A master electrician, Dan, came out immediately the next morning and fixed everything in two hours. I had gotten a $99 Big Deal (worth $200 in electrical work) plus paid an additional $210. I'm not sure exactly what $200 worth of electrical work means but I was happy to pay the money and know that my house was safe and that I didn't have to worry about any overloaded circuits. I was not charged for the first visit. I told Dan in passing that my Internet had stopped working even though my router was blinking green and my laptop showed that I was connected. This, however, didn't relate to what he was doing nor was the router outlet part of the chain of ones that tripped off. But he couldn't help himself! He messed with it a little bit (have no idea what he did) and suddenly I was up and running. This would have taken forever on the phone with Verizon, they couldn't have fixed it and I would have had to make an appt with them. He's a genius. He knows "stuff". When you use Murphy's be sure to ask for him. If you're lucky you live in his territory.

This was a very deceptive deal. There is an up front service fee of $169.00 that is charged for travel. So what you get is .5 hours of service. I actually paid $363.00 for two hours of service. Just checked for electrical deals and other companies are offering 2 hours of labor for $130.00. While I was very upset with the cost of this deal, the technician was great! Jeremy was knowledge, professional and a quite pleasant young man. He explained what the project entailed and answered my questions.

Everything went great. I bought a great coupon on Angie's List for $100 that gave me $200 worth of services. I scheduled a time for the work to be performed and the electrician arrived within the given window of time, calling half an hour before his arrival to confirm. The electrician was very friendly, competent, and did a fantastic job. Payment was easy--he was able to swipe my card to his work phone. The cost on top of the $100 coupon was $95 (I put the usual full price cost of the service without coupon above). I will definitely use their services again if I am in need of electrical work. Note that they don't offer appointments on weekends, just Monday through Friday.

It worked out fine. They did a good job and took care of it in an expedited manner.

It was done fast and professionally. The individual who came to the house was polite and very insightful.

I asked that they call me 30 minutes prior to them arriving because I needed to drop my daughter off at school. They showed up at 8:10 and never called me as I had asked. They called me when they got there and I let them know I was on my way back home and there was traffic, but they left before I got there. When they came back out they did not bring any materials. Instead of a motion sensing light they said the deal came with a regular security light. I spoke with them and showed them that the deal was for a motion sensing light. They agreed that it was for a motion sensing but they didn't know the deal was being offered that way. They knew of the coupon a week before the appointment though and didn't bring the appropriate materials to the job site. I've decided to have the deal refunded.

It went fine. He was on time and checked everything. He discussed things nicely with me. I’ll use them again.

It turned out okay. At first, I was not aware that the deal was for a set amount of time. There did end up being some additional costs, but they were very helpful and explained my options. It was very quick. He was there when he said he would be there, and was very professional. He gave me his card so that I can contact them in the future.

I used an Angie's List deal. I'm pretty handy but I was having trouble wiring a ceiling fan that I was installing. Murphy Family Electric solved the problem. They were very proficient and professional. And they arrived on time. Well done!

I did receive a courtesy phone call early on the appointment day about the technician car was in the shop and he wouldn?t make it to my location because it wouldn?t be picking up the car until 2pm. I appreciated that. But, I have already taken time off work in order to be at my residence. 4pm and the technician still haven?t arrived at my location and I called the office to try and get an ETA. I was told I would receive a phone call back once she has received information. 40 min pass by, and I receive a call from the technician at 4:40 stating he will be at my location no more than an hr. He arrived at my residence at 6:35pm at night. Jeremy was extremely polite and professional while he was at my location. He had to cut some drywall out in order to wire, but he cleaned up afterwards. I was quoted for exterior light and a new outlet (directly behind an existing outlet) to be created, that for $495. With angieslist coupon of $200 of service for $99, that total came out to be $195. But only the exterior light was completed and I was told it would cost additional to get the outlet done. In total, I paid $299 in total. I don?t feel like the price I paid in total equated to the hr and half service provided.

Company worked to resolve a hiccup in our service, resulting in a good customer service experience. Our initial over the phone quote ended up to be different from the prices quoted by the service person who came to the house to do the repairs. I discussed the discrepancy in quotes with Sean Murphy. He explained the cause for the discrepancy and worked to assure my husband and I would not be overcharged for the service. The work completed was quality and done more quickly than initially anticipated. We appreciate that the company addressed our concerns, worked to resolve any issues, and bolstered our trust in their business through follow up communication.

We had called on Friday and Eric arrived on time on Monday and performed all work quickly and courteously. One of the parts we had bought turned out to the wrong thing (someone had replaced a different item in the box at Home Depot; I should have checked that before we bought it). But, no problem, Eric had a part on the truck and all went well.

I scheduled an appointment for an electrician to install an electrical outlet. He called my cell phone at 830am and left a voicemail (I wasnt able to answer) saying he was on his way from Woodbridge and would be at my house soon. I tried calling him back at 856am and did not get an answer (nor did I leave a voicemail...since I assumed he would be arriving at any moment). At 1145am I called to get a more precise ETA , since I had to leave for a meeting and, again, did not get an answer. I left a voicemail and also provided an alternative phone number for him to reach my partner who would be staying to let him in. At 1214pm I also sent a text msg as a backup, asking for a status/ETA. (Admittedly, this is not a traditional contact method for businesses, but I felt comfortable doing it since it was a secondary attempt the reach the electrician.) At 115pm I called the office to see what was happening and was told the electrician had made "multiple phone calls, left messages and couldn't find my building...so cancelled the appointment." Everyone I talked with personally was very professional, but I do have to admit that I was surprised nobody from the office would have tried calling me when the electrician had been unable to find me or had finally given up trying.

No issues found. Suggested having the furnace checked to see if it was pulling more amps than it's supposed to.

Electrician could not repair problem the first time. We bought parts and coupon was applied on follow-up visit.

We had an expensive halogen ceiling light fixture that appeared to have burned out, as the wires were all black, and any new bulb replacements did not work. The electrician from Murphy arrived and was courteous and professional. He looked at the ceiling light fixture and immediately identified the issue. He replaced a few old wires and got it working within 10 minutes. He explained the issue was due to a previous installation. Would definitely use them again.
