The service went well. I had them install a light fixture. I paid an additional fee to have them also repair some electrical outlets and repair a room that was not getting any electricity to the outlets. They did a very good job and I was very pleased with their work. Two electricians came out and completed the job in a timely manner. They were prompt, courteous, helpful and proactive. I had no problem at all scheduling the deal.

While scheduling was a little difficult with phone tag, it ultimately turned out really well. We ended up scheduling via the Angie’s List messaging system. He was able to complete the work in the amount of time allocated for the Deal.

It was great. They were unable to come right away. They had a big challenge because my whole breaker had to be replaced. They did everything really well and professionally. They had trouble with coordinating the people. They dealt with the situation very well.

I called after recieving no call from the company within the time frame that they were supposed to be here. When I called them, the receptionist was unhelpful and told me that the provider was in traffic and wouldn't be there until after 6. I cancelled because they were late and the receptionist was rude. My review was based on the interaction with the receptionist because no work was done, so I can't rate them on their work. They scheduled me right away when I called and called the day before to remind me, so I'm not sure why they didn't call today, even just to tell me that they'd be late.
Description of Work: Scheduled appointment for 1-4pm after the purchase of a big deal for $99 for $200 electrical service. The provider did not arrive within the scheduled time, so I cancelled the services. No work was done.

That is an ABSOLUTE lie! We never said he would be there after 6!! When we spoke on the phone at 4:26 I informed you that he was 15 minutes away in Springfield and would be over very shortly! Your window of time was between 1-4 but sometimes other factors come into play such as previous jobs running over, traffic and weather. I tried to explain this over the phone and because he was 26 minutes outside the time window you proceeded to yell at me, and you ma'am were the one who was VERY RUDE!

It went okay but I felt that they overcharged me for a part we needed for repair. They should be cautious or at least be aware for mark-ups for replacing parts is very high. Their quality was good and they were on time.

Murphy electric came to install a new light fixture in my kitchen. I had an old fluorescent tube fixture in a wooden box on the ceiling, so the tech removed that fixture and moved the wires so that the new fixture would be centered over the kitchen island. He checked the height of the fixture with me and completed the work nicely. We bought an Angie's list deal for $99 for $200 worth of work, so all told it cost about $240 to have the fixture moved and installed ($99 deal + $140).
Description of Work: Move the wiring for a ceiling fixture and install the fixture.

He came out, looked at something and was in and out quickly. He showed up on time, and found the problem within the first 20 minutes. The electrician was smart and knowledgeable. He called me before he was coming out. He found that we had an emergency shut off that had been tripped.
Description of Work: My furnace wasn't getting any power, and a HVAC tech told me that I needed to hire an electrician.

Apparently I drew the short straw with an employee who clearly did not like working for Murphy (and said so while he was working). There are two things to consider before hiring Murphy. First, with their "$100 for $200 worth of electrician service" deal, you need to get an estimate first. If it takes an hour and a half to do work that probably take 30 minutes, then you aren't coming our ahead with this $100 for $200 worth of work. You pay the standard rate and if they are slow, you end up paying as much as if you had received a quote from an electrician. So don't fall for the $100 for $200 deal. The other thing is that you need to be careful when purchasing materiel (i.e. light switches etc) for Murphy to install. I have dealt with Michael and Son in the past and they are always trying to sell you something extra and make you pay an excessive amount of money for something that they install. If you ask Michael and Son to install a light switch, then you pay double what you would pay if you purchase that switch at Home Depot. I mention this because Murphy is the other extreme when it comes to paying for hardware. I needed to replace a bathroom ceiling exhaust fan and they said I should purchase my own and they would install it instead of having them bring a fan. It wasn't until they started their work that we saw that the fan was too small and apparently I was responsible for that. I either had to pay the cost for the additional time to remove the new fan and put in the old one (i.e. to pay for 1 1/2 hours of labor to accomplish nothing) or have them come back to install a proper fan (to pay for two visits). I now have a fan that is too small for the hole that was carved for the original fan, and ugly hole in the ceiling, and have paid about $250 (although they did a good job with installing the light switch).

This short end of the stick is no longer with us and has been replaced with two wonderful techs who are excited to work. Regarding the deal and comparing us to Michael and Son. We like to consider ourselves the most efficient electrical service company because we operate completely different from commission based companies. The commission based companies are very inefficient and drive out to your home and give you estimates and try and sell you on things you don't need or get the most they can because they are rewarded on how much they can collect from you the customer, not on providing what the customer needs. We tell you what we are going to charge over the phone saving you and us time and gas and ultimately money. It's not rocket science. In this case it was simply installing a customer supplied fixture and we have standard prices for that. You agree to our prices and take advantage of the deal saving you $100 in this case before we come out. Regarding the hole. This is normal, and all you have to do is patch and paint it.

I purchased 1/2 hour of electrician's services through and Angie's Deal. It was explained that any time spent beyond that would be charged $35 per 1/4 hour. The purchase and scheduling was very easy and straightforward, and Murphy's was very responsive and able to come out the next day if I had wanted (I actually scheduled for a week later because of my scheduling constraints). On the appointed day, I received a heads up by telephone about what time the electrician would arrive, and he came within the period expected. I had already purchased the replacement alarms (which Murphy's told me I should do when I made the appointment), and the electrician had them all installed through the three stories of my town house within 45 minutes. (so I paid for 1/4 hour additional). (Fortunately I did not have any ceilings above 10 feet -- which would have been more complicated, as they need a special ladder for that). The electrician was very competent and efficient, and was neat and did not create a mess anywhere in the house. I definitely feel that I got my money's worth with this Angie's List deal. I would not hesitate to use Murphy's again when I next need electrical services.

It was okay. I ended up not using them for the service because they wanted to take it too long but they did an initial estimate which was fine. I had to pay $400 on top of the Big Deal price. I would not recommend them to any of my friends or family. I would not use them again. We used the deal from Angie's List to have someone come out and diagnose the problem. After they diagnosed the problem, they were supposed to come back and fix the problem which was where the additional $400 came from but they did not actually end up fixing the problem. The guy just stayed too long and he wanted to charge us $400 and he did not fix the original problem. He said he misdiagnosed it the first time so we asked him to leave because they were charging us by the quarter of the hour and I ended up paying $500 for something to not be fixed. My front porch light was broken so we asked them to come out and diagnose why the porch light was broken and to fix it.

The only reason I gave a B instead of an A is because there was a miscommunication between the company and the employee who came out to install the attic fan. I bought the deal where they provide all materials including the fan, but the employee thought I had a fan when he arrived so he had to go buy one which made the process take a little longer. There was also a discrepancy initially on payment that I corrected. Again a miscommunication between the company and him. But truly overall great work, would recommend Update- I went into the attic and found that the technician spliced the wire (no problem, obviously has to be done to get power to it) however the technician only twisted the wires together and wrapped the entire thing in black electrical tape, there are no caps and the area that is spliced is laying freely on top of the blown in insulation. This is not to code and is a fire hazard, for that reason I do not recommend this company.

While the price seemed a little high, it was a completely good experience and they were on-time for the work. For scheduling it's best to know when you are needing when calling to schedule. Our property manager primarily dealt with them.

The electrician was polite and courteous. He was also in his designated time window. Before starting I showed him both projects I needed completed. First he tried to take out my old bathroom fan/light combo and was going to replace it with a new one. He made sure to lay a drop cloth over my bathroom floor so as not to leave a mess. It was very difficult to get out and took him a long time, which is somewhat understandable, but he didn't seem to be well prepared. He kept going to his car to get materials and he was parked a distance away, which made the cost of my appointment rise. He also came back smelling like smoke several times. After he finally replaced my bathroom light/fan combo he returned materials to his car. He came back and began working on my back light. Overall, this project was much faster, but he still had to go back out to his car to get materials. When this project was finished he went to return materials to his car again and got paperwork for the bill for me. At this point he calculated how long he had been at my house (a long while considering how many trips he had made to his car and the trouble he had with the bathroom fan) and said a large total of money, much greater than I had anticipated for two jobs. He proceeded to offer me a negligible (30$) discount if I paid him in cash. I told him I had no cash on me and he continued to ask for cash. He finally agreed to a personal check. I would not choose to use this company for my electrical services again.
Description of Work: The electrician replaced my fan/light in the bathroom and put a new back door light outside.

It worked out fairly well. They showed up promptly, and called me soon after I bought the deal. I had them fix some GFCI outlets, and checked out some circuits.

They didn’t hook our fan up right. Whenever someone turns on the TV, the fan goes on. We are unable to use the fan and we’d like to have them back to fix the fan correctly. They didn't call us to follow up, and we didn't call them however.

First, he was able to make it earlier than scheduled. He called and I was home so he came over. He had to check many outlets to find the one that was the issue. He was courteous and friendly. It was a great experience.
