Murphy Family Electric

The contractor did connect a smoke detector to electricity to meet the DC code. He also opened a hole in basement to install a second smoke detector. Since it is unnecessary to have a smoke detector in basement he didn't install the smoke detector and he didn't patch the hole on the ceiling either. I had to hire another contractor to patch the hole.

The electrician (I forget his name) called prior to arrival and showed up on time. We had a brief conversation about the work to be completed and then he got right to work. He removed the existing chandelier with no issues but in order to install the three pendant lights he had to run new wiring in the ceiling which required cutting into the drywall. He explained the situation before making any cuts and kept debris on the drop cloth that was laid over the dining room carpet. In total the work took two hours. One thing I'd like to note, the electrician earned major bonus points for his attention to detail. One of the pendant lights was initially installed in a different orientation than the other two, but during our final review of the work he noticed it and corrected it before I said anything (I'm very particular about small details). A++!

The 20 amp circuit had several GFCI's on it, two outside and one inside. These receptacles are on all three floors making forensics fun. Erik was able to go through and check the power panel, some of the receptacles and set and reset the GFCIs. It is all in the order of resets that gets it right.

The providers were great. They arrived early and finished the work within the predicted time. One of the wires wasn't tightly secured and our water heater lost power. They came back the next day and fixed it right away at no extra cost.

I decided to replace the previous ceiling fan because the chain had broken off inside the unit and I did not like the level of light the fan provided. Murphy Family Electric (MFE) contacted me promptly after I purchased an Angielist Big Deal for $129. The service reresentative explained how the pricing worked and emailed a payment agreement form for me to sign electronically before the date of the service. The MFE serviceman arrived within the designated time frame, removed the old fan, installed the new fan, and provided me with a brief tutorial for operating the remote control. I was obligated to pay an additional $70 because the service appointment ran over the 30 minutes allotted in my Big Deal. I compared the price of this fan installation to a previous fan installation along with additional electric service in one appointment 3 years ago from another Angie List provider. The MFE service was a big more pricey. Overall, the MFE experience was beneficial.

The tech who did the work was on time and did the job without a problem. Simple projects - I didn't expect any issues. In hindsight, the coupon didn't offer any savings. I could have had this work done for less, without the coupon, by going elsewhere.

I purchased a discount coupon for electrical service on Angie's list. Received an email from the company for scheduling. After I purchased the new motor I scheduled an appointment to have new motor installed. Motor installed as promised. No problems!

All the outlets work and we don’t have any problems with them. They were great. They mounted them to the walls very well. They did a nice job.

Working with Murphy Family Electric was great and I'll definitely work with them again. Seth was easy to work with and accommodating in scheduling, and Jeff was incredibly thorough, knowledgable and professional. I feel like my house is safer than it was last week. I'd recommend them completely and will definitely call again for future electrical needs - there is definitely a difference in working with true professionals.

The service was fine. They were very responsible. He did his job and was friendly. He discussed everything. It was a strange thing that happened, it happened inside the wall and I had no idea until I saw a big scorch mark next to the switch. It had already broken the circuit. It was a kind of a dangerous situation. It could have burnt down the house. He knew what he was doing and went about it and did the job. He provided the parts.

This was the third time we have used Murphy for electrical work in our home. Could not have gone better. After negotiating a great price with Seth and Sean (with Angie's List discount) to run two dedicated electrical lines from one side of our house (where the main circuit box is located) all the way to the other side where the garage is, Jeff, the master technician, executed flawlessly. He cut a minimum number of small holes in the downstairs ceiling, located adequate space to run the wires next to existing ducting, then managed to get both wires fished all the way through, some 50 feet, no easy task. He then expertly installed two new 20 amp circuit breakers in our main box at one end, and appropriate code tubing and new GFI outlets/plugs at the other (garage) end, one dedicated to power a new sump pump we recently had put in to remedy a leaky garage floor., and a second one for dedicated use in recharging our electric Prius plug-in. Once the electric work was fully installed, Jeff cleaned up afterward, including putting the ceiling dry-wall cutouts back in place, leaving only the plastering/priming/painting for me to do. We've been very pleased with the quality of Murphy's work all three times they've been to our house, their pricing is excellent, and we've recommended them to our neighbors, who have also used them. The family approach is refreshing, and the technical excellence of Sean's electricians is impressive. Have recommended them and will continue to recommend and use them.

The technician was very friendly and professional. He called to let me know when he would be arriving and was prompt. He talked me through everything he was doing and explained how things could go wrong with switches and delays with outdoor lighting. He even took a little extra time to discuss a home renovation project and possible estimates with me.

He did not return my call at all and my coupon that I bought online through Angies list got expired.I lost 99 $.Never will buy his services

Tech Erik called me 45 minutes prior to arriving; I knew what time to expect him. The electrical configuration of the wiring in my home was not performed according to standards. Erik was relentless and persistent in locating the source of my electrical problem; he was extremely thorough in restoring electrical power to all of my outlets and overhead lighting. Erik wasted no time in getting the job done. He was very business-like and professional; a true SME---Subject Matter Expert.

It worked out well. It was a good one. There was extra money. The sale did not cover everything we needed done. It turned out that there was a defective photo light timer. He came back the following day and fixed it for a minimal fee. I actually had to replace it with a new one. It wasn't their fault at all. The photo light just wasn't working.

This provider is always professional, on-time, and great. He actually called me and my tenant to let us know he was on his way. He took photos of what was done as I'm not in the area.

On their initial visit, the outlet was converted but the kitchen work was not completed and the electrician caused all lights to be inoperable in the room. When we reported the problem, they sent another electrician promptly and completed the job.

Very pleased with Murphy Family Electric. They are now our "go to" electrician!

I purchased an Angie's List deal for $129 for $200 worth of service to fix 3 GFCI switches that weren't working. I did everything I could to troubleshoot but was unsuccessful. Seth at Murphy Family Electric worked with me to set up a convenient appointment when the first appointment didn't work out. Eric the electrician let me know when he'd be arriving -- it was within the promised window -- and worked quickly to identify the problem. It was fairly simple so he was able to resolve it within one half hour so I didn't have to pay any additional fee. He also showed me how I could take care of the problem if it happened again.

I love them. I like them as a company. The guy who came was stuck on the previous job and he wasn?t allowed to call to say that he was coming late. I think they should allow their employees to call if they are running late and should reimburse them. They didn?t overcharge. They explained things very easily. The guy who came was very knowledgeable and very personable.
