Description of Work: |We had two light fixtures that were burning out bulbs within a week of replacing them. Murphy Electric replaced 3 outdoor light fixtures with ones we ordered ahead of time on Amazon (we replaced all three fixtures so they would match). They gave us a two hour service window of 8-10 am, and the workman called at 8:20 to let me know he would be there about 9:30. I really appreciated this, so that I didn't sit looking out the window for an hour plus. He called again when he was 15 minutes away. | |It's been 3 weeks and the lights are still working great with no burned out bulbs. | |The total was $170 (after the Angie's List discount, which paid for the $165 fixed truck roll fee and the first half-hour of labor). | |All in all a positive experience, and I would definitely use them again.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal that gave me $200 worth of electrical services for $99. I needed to replace a light switch in my laundry room. They were very responsive and were able to send someone out pretty quickly. It was a quick and easy fix, guy was finished in 10 minutes. I just think their rates and service call prices are too high.

Description of Work: Installed 2 sets of recessed lights. One set in the kitchen and one set in basement gym and a dimmer switch for each set. Lights work great. We're very happy with how they turned out.

Description of Work: I called them because we were having a problem with the mainbreaker in the breaker box. I used a coupon from Angies List that provided two hours for a flat fee. Well, first of all Murphy's explained how the pricing worked and it was not as was advertised but it seemed that in the long run it would work out. Then they sent one electrician who removed the breaker and tried only one source to get the mainbreaker. This was the original breaker but I would expect that a large company would have many sources for parts. The electrician then came in and said I had to have a entirely new breaker box and that would start at $1500 just for the parts. At that time I asked him to give me the specs for the part to see if I could find the part on line. I found it, it only cost $100 but it cost $100 to be shipped. He then returned the old breaker to the box so that we had electricity. I ordered the part and the electrician said he would be back just to call Murphys and he would come back. | |When the part came in I called Murphy's and was told the electrician that was at my home was no longer employed by Murphys. They sent another electrician who said immediately he could not just change the mainbreaker and had a myriad of excuses such as he had to call BGE to turn off the electricity, it was an old box, he refused to use the part I had bought. At that time I asked him to leave. | |I feel like I was being upsold and that Murphy's was trying to take advantage. | |I called Murphy's because they were the highest rate company listed. I'm not sure why I didn't experience their best!

Description of Work: The two electricians caused damage to my home. Most notably 4 holes in my wall and a huge dent in my hardwood floors as well as two black marks on a newly painted ceiling. The company stonewalled my complaints and did nothing to address my concerns. While I am happy with the electrical work, why would I have people in my home again who caused damage and would not take responsibility for their damage? Most unpleasant experience. Would not recommend any company that does this!

Description of Work: They installed 7 recessed lights and two ceiling fans. All lights were installed in 22 ft ceiling which has a slope. They did a fantastic job and they didnt even make a single hole extra other than that needed for the lights itself. It was a tough job but they did it with a good attitude.

Description of Work: Hired Murphy to install an electric baseboard heater, install an outlet in our laundry closet, and replace a few switches around the house. We had an 8-11 am arrival window and the electrician showed up a little before 8:30 am, so that was great. The job overall took about 2.5 hours with the baseboard installation being complicated for a few reasons, which drove the price much higher than I thought it would be (even higher than the quote). It's an old house (1929) and running a dedicated electrical line to the heater took more than a standard approach would've required. The electrician saw it as a challenge to conquer, which I appreciated and he found a good way to get it to work without ripping up a whole lot of recent renovation work that was done. Installing the outlet was no problem as was replacing the switches, except that he couldn't replace one of them because it needed two three-way switches and he didn't have enough on hand. So it was disappointing that everything couldn't get done after having paid about $800. | |Not that this is Murphy's problem, but I hate having to find drywallers after doing electric work that requires cutting into the walls, since it means more money and time to get that done on top of the electrical work). But that comes with the territory (as it does with a lot of plumbing work too). An electrician that also has skills and materials for basic drywall repair would be highly sought after (i guess I could learn it myself, too)!!

Description of Work: Nothing once the deal was explained over the phone. You pay $99 and after expenses the balance goes towards labor which includes travel charges, electrical supplies not products just supplies like screws, tape, wire etc.. When they arrive at your home the charges begin and you are charge by the quarter hour so every 15 minutes the meter is running. The "promo" is eaten up in fees and charges and no labor.

Description of Work: The job turned out to be a bigger and more complicated one than I'd thought. The person who provided the estimate from Murhpy Family Electric did so without coming in person to see the layout, which didn't really inspire confidence - particularly because the estimate they provided seemed fairy low. I was a bit concerned they would either want to amend it upwards later, or they would stay within the estimate and not do a thorough job. Maybe they would have done a great job, but I decided to go with a company I'd worked with before and have a lot of confidence in.

Description of Work: A GENTLEMAN NAMED CHUCK FROM MURPHY FAMILY ELECTRIC COMPANY CAME TO DO THE WORK. HE WAS EARLY WHICH WAS HIGHLY APPRECIATED. HE CAME PREPARED TO WORK. HE REMOVED 1 CHANDELIER AND INSTALLED 2. HE WAS PROFESSIONAL AND HAS A FRIENDLY PERSONALITY. I WISH I HAD MORE WORK FOR HIM. WHEN I DO,I WILL CALL MURPHY FAMILY ELECTRIC CO. AGAIN.
