Randy, our electrician, was excellent. He was professional, polite, and efficient. He explained what he was doing and was very ingenious when we discovered that the screws to hang the fixture were not long enough. He problem-solved the situation on the spot and was able to hang the fixture with a few minor adjustments. It looks great. When he replaced the basement light switch, he explained why it went bad. I was concerned that there was a wiring problem in our basement and he assured me that the rest of the wiring was done very well.

When I looked for an electrician in Angie’s List, I found Murphy Family Services and was referred to their website. The website was very attractive, easy to navigate, and made it very simple to book a service, technician, and a time for the service. Mike called in advance, arrived on time, was courteous, finished in record time, collected payment, and left. Thoroughly satisfied by the service, I was confused about the billing. Besides the service fee, there was a gas fee and a parts fee. When I called Sean the owner and left a message, he called back very quickly, and since I had supplied my own parts, was very flexible and refunded the parts fee. Overall, I was completely satisfied by my experience.

The service was down and dirty. We needed cable to be wired for tv and internet in our new home - BRAND new home. He refused to crimp and finish the ends of the wires or put on cable covers to make the job complete. They told me in advance they would not repair the drywall and it was evident that he didnt care what he left our new home and it's new walls like. The holes were not cleanly cut, he scraped paint off of areas that he was not even working on. The electrician was messy, didn't clean up after himself and not the type of professional I want in my home. I would highly recommend someone to complete the job start to finish. There was lack of accountability here and made for a poor experience. Lesson learned for us..... We are thankful that since the job could not be finished in one day, he was able to come back that weekend and finish in a small time-period.

Jake came and took apart the entire electrical system on the top two floors of the house to find where a short was that had knocked out power to some of a circuit. He then bypassed the problem and got everything working exactly as before. Excellent service.

update to previous review. tech was very nice and personable but either rushed and made many mistakes or not trained. it appears , after owner , refused to make me whole, fired the tech. furthermore, it appears that now owner lies about offering to come back and do work correctly, which I do not recall. he offered refund after I filed court papers, but I refused refund , but wanted to be made whole for expenses incurred as result of his company's work. My appointment was at 8 am and the electrician arrived around 9 am. I had no idea he was coming to me from an hour and a half away. He did call to tell me he would be late and asked about the services I needed. I was able to answer to the best of my ability. He arrived and got right to work and eventually realized he didn't have the correct parts, though he thought he did. He went to Home Depot and got the parts and came back and fixed the issues. All of this caused him to charge me a full extra hour of labor that shouldn't have been necessary. If I had been asked to provide pictures of the parts or a more in depth description of the parts/issue then I wouldn't have had to pay for an extra hour ($140) as well as be even later to work than anticipated.

On the front page of our website when you book, or if you book over the phone, you get an email stating: "The time you select is NOT AN EXACT TIME BUT A BLOCK OF TIME contingent on prior service calls, weather and traffic. It is not an exact time though you may select an exact time. You will receive a call from the tech when he is on his way." Further it states: "If an item is not a standard part and we have to go to the supply store to get you may be charged for this time." There was an accident on his way there. The technician also says you told him the incorrect part so he had to go get the correct part. If you believe this is incorrect, please give us a call.

I scheduled an appointment on Wednesday for Thursday afternoon. I was given a window when the electrician would come via email and text. I received a text and email that the window moved by 15 minutes in the mornimh which is no big deal. An hour and a half after the scheduled time passed by I called and was told that I should have received a text that they cancelled. I didn't receive a text, email, or even apology when I called for wasting my day. I was only asked if I wanted to reschedule for another time. It took multiple phone calls to reach somebody in the first place with this company and I wasted a day waiting for this company to never show up in the end. Immediately AFTER calling thrm and being told that nobody was coming I received a text and email that they cancelled. Terrible customer service for what could have been a quick and easy job. I don't normally review things but I wasted a full day off. This company seems to rely on text / booking on their website and as a result lacks the ability to maintain customer service on a human level. I wish I could add an attachment to show the text an email correspondences that show I never received any messages about a cancellation. I don't know about the quality of their work but they're not easy to schedule or communicate with.

I set the appointment on Murphy Family Services' website for 2 pm. The notice I got from them confirmed the 2 o'clock time with a window of 2 to 5 pm. I left work and saw that their tech had left a message at 1130 saying he was on the way to my home and would be there around 1230. If I couldn't make that time, he suggested, I would need to reschedule. I got the message at 1 pm and called right back - only to get voicemail. Left a msg and got no call back. I then called Murphy's business line and left a msg. Sean called back and said that the 2 pm appointment time was not a firm time and it depended on when they got to my job. I can understand that it might be later than 2 - but, c'mon, an hour and half earlier. I did not reschedule.

Please note that when you schedule it is a block of time morning, midday, or afternoon, depending on the prior service calls, traffic and weather, you will receive a call from the tech when in route. Please it is not an EXACT time, though square appointments, will send an automated message reminding for a specific time. We cannot stress this enough. Customers think that it is an exact time when it is impossible for us to offer exact times.

On Fri after 5 pm. received call from Sean advising they had a conflict and needed to change my Monday appt from full day to half-day service at a reduced rate which was frustrating, but ok, as I would get as much done and have remaining work done at another time. However, around 10 a.m. on day of appt, Sean called again to notify me the reason for the change in sked was due to him having to fire an electrician on Fri (not the one I scheduled work to be done by - Erik), and that Erik was running late on his other 1/2 day appt, and recommended for the amt of work requested I resked for a full-day of service which is about the time I lost my patience since that is what I originally did at their request and they canx my appt. But being reasonable I advised I understood and that if they had any other partial days avail aside from Thur (since I already gave up a day of work for today's appt), we could start the work today and whatever was remaining could be finished during a partial day's appt. Sean booked me for additional 3 hrs on Wed. Later Sean called back to advise that today wasn't good at all for the electrician, Erik, and unless we could resked full-day work on Thur would not be able to support request. I replied I had already advised Thur would not work and then gave up on their dependability to get work done on any date. I am very dissatisfied with the way this entire event was handled - too many excuses made for not accommodating a pre-reserved appt with a customer. Reason I went with this company is because they had done prior work with us in 2016 which we were happy with plus all the A rated reviews on Angie's list. This turned out to be huge disappointment.

very bad. appt was scheduled for 8 AM. by 8:25 no show, I called company. less than helpful person answered phone, said he would have drive call me. Driver called, said he was stuck in traffic, no " sorry I'm running late" nothing. I asked why no call to tell me he was running late, drive hung up on me. Few minutes later, someone claiming to be the owner called me. wanted to know what happened, but again no apology, basically said I was rude to drive. They policy is that they can run late because of traffic or other jobs. Told owner person I understand but a professional organization would call and advise customer of delay. Owner did not seem to understand this. Would never use this company again

We have used Erik, the electrician, about 6 times. He does a terrific job each time. He is a hard worker and wants customer to be please and satisfied. Also, he is kind and friendly. Erik has installed for us 5 exterior security lights, a dedicated exterior 15-amp line with plug, a new interior electrical plug, a new attic light and plug, and a new kitchen ceiling fan. I found receipts for the last 4 of the 6 Murphy Family Services electrical jobs and they totaled $1,059.50

I called the company directly to explain my problem and mentioned I had a $99 coupon offer that would pay for them to come out and give me 30 mins of time. Tech arrived on time, suggested the suspect wall receptacle / plug be replaced and I agreed. I did not see the old receptacle parts so am suspect a replacement was actually done. He then plugged in a replacement fan (that I had purchased) and took down the old one from a bathroom fan-good. What I did not expect was to get hit with a "van parts and gas fee" to the tune of $64 in addition to the coupon fee. Most vendors charge a flat fee to come out to you and that "gas fee" is bundled into that. To their credit, they did state that fee would be added AFTER I had scheduled the appointment (it was stated in their email to me confirming the appointment, I just had not read far enough into the email). Also, when presented with the bill from the tech, it had NOT taken into account their $99 Angies list coupon rate. They wanted to charge me a full $100 more. The original total WAS something on the order of $199 (initial 30 minutes of time)+ $64 (gas and parts fee) + $35 (wall outlet) for two very simple bits of work. Effectively $300 for 30 mins work. That's ~ $600/hour. Even divorce lawyers (partners) don't charge that much. Fortunately they honored the coupon, dropped the new outlet fee and waived the gas and parts fee and I survived with just a $129 cost. I dinged them on price because: Company did not communicate to tech the $99 coupon rate (bad), and, more importantly, the owner, who I spoke to on the phone, COULD HAVE MENTIONED the "gas and parts" fee, upfront, but chose to slip it into a confirming email. Both owner and tech were nice enough, but it was the process that felt a bit underhanded. Did the tech REALLY not get told about the coupon or did they hope I would not pay attention? Best bet is to buy a package deal from them for a flat rate and GET IN WRITING all costs--up front. And finally, I've spent 20 minutes of precious time writing this review when all I should have to do is click "A" across the categories had everything been up-front and above-board. sigh...
