We received bid estimates from several contractors to refinish the red oak floors in our living room and dining room (approx. 400 sq ft). Craig responded to our bid request promptly, stopped by the house a few days later, and sent us the bid shortly thereafter. Of all the contractors we met with, Craig impressed us the most with his professionalism and attention to detail. He explained the scope of the work needed and made sure we understood all the steps involved as well as how long each phase would take (important as we were simultaneously preparing to move into the home). Craig actually worked with us to make the project affordable and we felt comfortable selecting him to do the work.The sanding, staining, and refinishing began on the date we requested. Craig carefully sanded away decades worth of "gunk" that had built up on the floors. He even sanded the coat closet (not included in the original measurements/estimate) just so that it wouldn't look dingy in comparison to the newly refinished floor. He takes great pride in his work and doesn't skimp or cut corners. His attention to detail is meticulous and we were very impressed with the manner in which he worked. He cleaned up after each phase of the project and all dust was carefully contained and/or removed. Best of all, after the work was done, the floors looked absolutely gorgeous. We immediately asked Craig if he would take on the job of refinishing the bedroom floors as well. I would recommend Craig without reservations to anyone who is looking to have someone take care of their wood floors.

Since we were replacing virtually all of the hardwood on the main floor of our Prairie Bungalow, we elected to do the job in two segments. We moved all of our furniture to the back half of the house while the front was re-floored, then repeated the process for the back half. This was a significant undertaking and added time and energy to the project! The amount of 90 year old dirt and grime that came up with the old flooring was significant! We believe that some of it as probably old coal dust and soot. Overall, Craig did an excellent job. He started and completed the project on time, was personable, reliable and enjoyable to work with. The project was a significant undertaking and a major disruption of our home, but the end result was well worth it! The new floor not only looks beautiful, but has transformed how our old home feels and sounds. I would certainly use Craig Barber again and recommend this services.

Craig responded very quickly to an estimate request. We were very impressed with his honesty and knowledge (our hardwood floors are 101 years old and we weren't sure if they had another sanding left in them). He discussed all of our options, and was forthright about what we could expect with respect to smell and time out of the house (this was of particular concern as I was pregnant at the time). But then we didn't receive a bid from him for several days--nearly a week. I had to call him to follow up. This was concerning and disappointing after a great first impression. In the end, his bid wasn't the lowest we received, but reading reviews about his attention to detail and our initial in-person impression was enough. Once we signed the deal, they acted quickly and did an EXCELLENT job. Way beyond our expectations. I definitely recommend this company.

I thought he was very professional. In some way, I wish I would have gone with him. He was very professional and timely. He told me what to be aware of. Even if we didn't end up going with him, he spoke to me about what to look out for with anyone. He was definitely very knowledgeable and spent the time to explain everything in detail. I would use his services again in the future.

Work was completed on time, and cost was as estimated. Dust was contained, and sanding was carefully and thoroughly done. Several coats of finish were applied, and Craig had very high standards to assure that the floors looked great.

Craig came initially for an estimate on a VERY tight time window and was right on time. He was the cheaper of the two estimates and seemed knowledgeable and so I went with him. We talked numerous times on the phone about the choice of wood for the floor, and he was always helpful without being pushy. He told me the supplier of the wood so I could go and see it for myself before it was installed. ON installation, everything went according to schedule except for the final finishing (done by an employee), which ran a day late. Craig also was very good about going over any price changes due to my choice of wood and finish options. Most importantly, the floors look GREAT. Would definitely use again.

We had gotten bids from 3 other flooring companies, Craig's bid was about in the middle of the others, however when we met with Craig we knew right then that he would be the one we would go with. We really liked him right from the start , he is very personable and seemed to be genuine. Initially we were unsure of the type of wood we wanted to put in our house, Craig had suggested that we should meet with him at one of his distributers showroom so that we could get a better idea of what would look good with our decor. This turned out to be the right call . Even though one other floor company had brought us wood samples it is hard to get an accurate idea of what it is going to look like throughout the entire house. Once the work got started Craig and his guys came in and pulled up our old carpet and removed the existing baseboards and hauled them away. Before they started installing the hardwood, the guys scraped any dirt or sheetrock mud off the plywood floor and vacuumed the entire work area . I was really impressed that they cared enough to take the time to clean things so well before they put the floor down. During the 3 days of the installation they would show up just as we were heading off to work , and by the time we would get home they would be finishing up for the day. Craig runs a tight ship , all the saw dust was swept up and tools put away and a large section of the floor would be down. Again I was very impressed with the professional attitude and the quality of workmanship! Once they started the sanding process, my family and I had made plans to go out of town for a few days. But before doing so Craig had shown us some samples of what the stain and finish would look like. When we arrived back home I was so excited to see our new floors and stairs. I have to say that the house looked even better then I imagined it would. Not only did the floors look great but the they had cleaned the window seals and counter tops. It was as though magic elves had come and made my dreams come true ! Our stone tile looks new again and my house is so much nicer then it was before we started. One of the many things I like about Craig is that he seems to care about the quality of finished product he and his crew leaves the customer with, and where the wood comes from , how its harvested and the type of floor finishes he uses. He used a non toxic water based floor finish with a low VOC count. I did some research on the finish and found nothing but good reviews. We absolutely love the work Craig and the guys did and would STRONGLY RECOMMEND THEM !!!!

Two things make Craig excellent. The first is that he refinished a small hallway closet. He could have easily gotten away with not refinishing the wood, but he did it. All other guys wanted to charge us extra - Craig just did it because he wanted the floors to look good. Then, my husband and I miss communicated and ending up overpaying our bill. Craig came by and gave us the difference of the over paid amount right away. His price was comparable to the other bids I got, but his work was exceptional. I would use him again and would recommend him to any friend.

the job went very well. after some initial trouble finding a date and time, craig was prompt and finished the job within the short time frame he committed to. he cleaned up after working. his assistant came back and painted the risers and sides--also a very nice job. after the painting was done, craig dropped by to be sure we were satisfied with the work--which we were.

I was not overly thrilled with their results. I was kind of disappointed with their work.

Initially Craig and his crew were very punctual but this changed as the week went on. One day he was over an hour late but mostly it was 30 or so minutes. The installation of the floor was great. Craig had another guy do it and he worked fast and did an incredible job. He did run out of wood towards the end which delayed the project. When it came time to sand and finish, we realized my home didn't have the 220 volt outlet needed to plug the machine. After a lot of brainstorming on how to make it work, Craig called an electrician friend and was able to figure out a way to make it work by accessing my breaker box. This lead to another delay but I saved money by not needing to call an electrician or renting a generator. For reasons I don't know, he was unable to finish the sanding the day he came by so application of the sealant was delayed. This meant that instead of finishing on a Thursday as previously discussed we were still working on the floor into the weekend. Craig came over on Saturday to apply the stain and was an hour late. I had somewhere to be (and had told him the day prior) and he had assured me the 1st coat would only take 20 minutes. In reality it took about 45 minutes so I was late to my appointment. We placed 1/4 round moulding around the base boards the following monday. The man who installled this did a great job but was very slow. I was told it would take an hour and it took 4. Despite the delays the floors look fantastic! One small complaint I do have is regarding the price, initially when he did the estimate he offered to coat my kitchen floor for free. When I reminded him of this, he said he would do it for $20. Also, I did flush wooden vents and needed a long one for the return which the place he used for wood didn't carry. He brought a vent over which worked perfeclty but initially told me he wouldn't charge me for it b/c it was left over from a different job but then charged me $35 (I paid $30 each for the other vents). Aside from that, the estimate was fairly close to the actual price I paid.

The wood floors in my recently-purchased 1930's home needed refinishing. Craig and Terry were very easy to work with, friendly but professional. I was kept informed of the work they were doing, and they were able to thoroughly answer my questions. I was originally somewhat concerned about refinishing the fir, as I'd read it was easy to gouge such a soft wood, but it turned out flat and smooth. When finished, they replaced 4 thresholds, put the doors and vent covers back, and took out the trash. It's like they were never there - except now my floors are beautiful!

He met a very tight time dead line. He was very responsive regarding timing issues. He was very knowledgeable.

t has been 8 months and I have seen no sign of any floor shrinkage, settling or shifting. Craig agreed to repair any such condition for the following 18 months after installation. I am picky about my wood floors and Craig did a fantastic job. Craig was great to work with and the floor looks absolutely incredible.

The service went very well. The price was very competitive.

The quality of the work was excellent. Craig and his assistant, Mike, restored the floors to original condition. They didn't cut corners and handled hidden problems in damaged areas with great skill. When choices were to be made, Craig described the alternatives and made knowledgeable recommendations, considering cost as well as quality. The work was done within the original estimate, with no up charge to fix the hidden damage. We had a specific time frame in which the work needed to be completed, and Craig worked with us to meet our needs. We would highly recommend him!

I liked Craig - he seemed very knowledgeable about the work and pointed me in the direction of a good antique/junk shop I used to buy a door. But he was absolutely horrible about returning phone calls - never gave me a written estimate - and I finally gave up. If he had ever called back and/or given me the estimate, I probably would have hired him. Maybe I was "too small" of a job - but he should have just told me that.

We have used Craig in the past so he was our first choice. He is very busy so we needed to get him scheduled ahead of time, but this was not a problem. He installed a engineered floor over our existing concrete. As usual, Craig did a great job, fast and on budget. We will use him on any flooring projects.

Craig does a great job. On budget and on time. He did a excellent job of matching the finish to the existing finish. He has performed similar jobs for a number of friends and has always had great results.

He is hard to get hold of, but he returns calls. He does high-quality work, but he's always extremely busy and it was hard to find a time to schedule him. We are really pleased with our floors, though, and the new stair tread he made for the stairway matches the old ones almost precisely - pretty good for 1939 oak! We plan to hire him again for flooring installation.
