stated there is a $69.00 service Fee. After reading the first sentence "check the coil system", he stated there is a $262.00 coil check charge. Then he stated if the coil needs replacing, it will cost me over $2,000.00 to fix. Then he told me if there is anything else wrong it will cost me more money. I told him the operator the day before did not tell me there was a service charge. He called the office to verify this. He told me 'no"the operator forgot to tell me. I did have two other companies come out for a quote. 1. The first company came out and checked my Coil, Duck, and many other items, and I was not charged. He gave me a quote just above $1,200.00 for new coil and duct adjustments. 2. The second company came out after Church, and quoted me $1359.00 for what was needed to be replaced, and adjustments. I again was not charged for coming out to check my Air Condition system. I live in Martindale, a small town 5 miles from San Marcos. Two companies did not charge me to come out, but Church did. Two other companies found the same problems for free, and Church Service didn't. 1. Ask if they Church Systems have a service charge. 2. If you know what you want looked at, and it's more than one item, ask them for the pricing of each item you want them to look at. 3. ALWAYS Have different companies come out to look at your A/C. There are plenty of other good rated companies, to come out and check for free. Don't forget, I was charged $69.00 to just come out, and $262.00 to check one specific item, and quoted almost two times as much, as other two companies. Beware
Description of Work: I called 09/26/2013. The operator stated that a person will be at my house between 1-4. That was fine. I was not told that there will be a service charge of $69.00. Contrary to what was written in this review, this customer was not charged a $69 service fee. In fact, the customer was not charged at all. This was an estimate only call, the customer was provided with estimated charges, and elected not to have repairs performed. There was no service charge fee as we are currently waiving the service charge on ALL calls. We realize that we may not always be the cheapest provider, and we realize that our customers have a choice. That's why we are committed to proving we care with every repair and with empowering our customers with the knowledge they need to make the best choices for their homes and their families.

Junior came out and said that the overflow line was clogged and that's why the outside compressor was shut off. He quickly cleared out the line and everything was working within 45 minutes. Junior was our tech on our yearly A/C maintenance so when I saw that he was dispatched for this problem, I knew we were in good hands. He's professional, smart and competent.

We have used Church services a few times. After using different plumbing companies, and also getting quotes from different companies, they seem to have the best prices and quality work and quality plumbers. They clean up after themselves, too. On two different occasions, Church was able to provide us the service for less money. For example, another company said we needed to pay $6000 to fix a plumbing/sewer line, and Church was able to give us a quote for half of that, citing that not all the work was necessary.

I just remembered this incident after writing my review about my experience on September 4, 2013. We had some other work done by them in March of 2012 (they still called themselves Christian Brothers back then, now it's Church Services). My mother-in-law got the idea, since they were already here, that she wanted a new kitchen faucet. I asked if they could do it and the service tech said yes, he had new faucets in his truck. So he went ahead, took out the old faucet, installed the new one and worked a bit on the PVC water pipes. When all was said and done, we were charged the insane amount of $642.21. The new faucet was from Delta and looked like one of the cheapest I've ever seen. I looked the same product up on Delta's website and it was not even $100. For the faucet alone we were charged $422.80 (this included the installation). For the work on the pipe we were charged $219.41. I should have gotten an estimate, but I thought "how expensive can it be" and just told him to go ahead and do the job. 45 minutes or so later I was out of over $640. Later that day I called their manager (don't remember the name) and complained about the cost of the service, which seemed very high to me. He would not cave. When I confronted him with the fact, that the newly installed faucet was pretty much the cheapest on the market, yet we were charged $422 for it, he told me a long story about how much work it involved to install the faucet and explained the price difference with the cost of installation. So for taking out a faucet, putting in a new one (which was not even worth $100) I paid $422, in addition to $219 for some minor pipe work. Wow, what a deal! Unfortunately I hired them again just recently (see my review dating September 5, 2013). Since I hadn't had any negative experiences with them in several years- except the one with the faucet - I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake.
Description of Work: Installed new kitchen faucet with new emergency valve and repaired PVC waterline underneath sink.

Our Austin general manager spoke to the homeowner who indicated that she wanted a Delta-quality faucet for less than $200. The total for all faucet repairs was $642.21, This included the new faucet, new supply lines and new emergency shut off valves. Our Austin general manager reviewed the flat rate pricing for the above repairs and found: Faucet with installation $420.62, 2 Stops and supply lines $222.32, Total for repairs $642.21 - inclusive of labor charges. Our general manager spoke to the homeowner a couple of weeks ago and offered her a $50 concession as resolution. She stated that the concession was a surprise to her, she did not want the $50 and that she would call us in the future.

We called Church Services (previously Christian Brothers), because the tankless water heater in my mother-in-law's house stopped producing hot water. They were supposed to call the next day to make an appointment, but I did not get a call, so I had to call again to remind them and they sent the technician out just a few hours later. I can live with that. What I cannot live with, is this: the technician checked the water heater and told me it had to be replaced. He gave me the option to have it repaired and said the parts would cost about $2,000 and it would take 2 to 3 weeks to have them delivered. That's a long time without hot water. Also hard to understand why it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get parts ... So I asked about new water heaters. In the book they have with the products and prices, he showed me a tankless water heater for $4,200! He told me the price included installation and warranty. On top of that (since the water heater runs on gas), there are permits to be obtained (which I understand, it's not avoidable), that would have cost an additional $275. Also another charge for additional work that needs to be done, because it is a mobile home and the source of energy is propane gas. This charge was about $192. I told him that $4,200 is out of the question, whereupon he told me that they have a financing program. Next thing I asked him about a tank water heater. That kind of water heater would have run us about $1200, again including installation and warranty, excluding above mentioned permits. The technician gave me an estimate for this service, and it would have cost us around $1,800 including tax. I should have asked about the difference of $3,000 between the tank less and the regular water heater, but unfortunately I didn't. I called my husband and we decided to get a second opinion. So the technician left me with the estimate, which would have cost about $190, but he didn't charge me for it. Today I decided to look up similar services on Angie's list and comparing prices, I was shocked and appalled. I don't think there are even any tankless water heaters available for $4,200, even though this price included installation and warranty. $4,200 still seems like insanity to me. I have no explanation for this and I feel violated because they obviously tried to overcharge us, and not just by a small amount. We are regular customers and used them also for our HVAC services. Needless to say, we'll never hire them again.

The homeowner was surprised by our tankless water heater price/ quote. We did not charge her a service fee nor any charge, we just gave her a quote which she denied. Her existing tankless hot water heater was a Bosch brand and parts are extremely hard to find and obtain. We were honest with her on the cost, timing with parts and repairs. It was at her to discretion to choose not to purchase the new water heater. There was no further service performed.

I have hesitated leaving this review for over a year. I know that if I leave a negative review the company has a chance to "remedy" it, defend their version of events, etc. But that would require me to attempt to communicate with them, which I didn't and don't want to do. But Angie's List keeps pestering me for the details of my experience, so here it goes: May 31st the technician arrived to do our inspection. It was that time that he informed me of the additional cost for the second unit. This was not made clear on the coupon. THEN, due to rain, the technician had to stop the inspection. June 1st the -- inspection was finished and recommendations made. At that time we were also convinced to purchase a Priority Membership in order to further lower our costs, cost of recommended repairs and pre-pay for inspection of heater in the winter. That afternoon, I called to schedule the recommended repairs on both my units. It was mentioned to me that one of the repairs required a part that had to be ordered. I was told to go ahead and schedule the appointment because, being Friday, the part could arrive late Monday; about 2 days? so I was told scheduling for Tuesday would be fine. June 4th 12 ? 5pm. First Scheduled 1st Repair. At 1pm, I received a call that the technicians were on their way. At 2pm, I received a call saying that the technicians were not coming at all because the part my downstairs unit needed had not arrived. I asked if we could keep the appointment and just do the upstairs unit work, but I was told that CB-AC doesn?t split up the work requests that way. (Considering that, when the upstairs work was eventually done, it took about ONE hour. Easily done in the 2 pm to 5 pm remaining window.) June 7th 12 ? 5pm. Second Scheduled 1st Repair. This time I received a call saying that the technicians would not be coming because it was too hot. I was told that the work took 3 -4 hours and the technicians couldn?t be in the hot attic that long in the afternoon; my appointment would have to be a morning time frame. (Again, the work ended up taking only 1 hour. The high for June 7th was 90 degrees. The high for the week before that was 94.) The part for my downstairs unit was still not in. I was assured that just the upstairs unit repair COULD be done, this time, even without the downstairs part. June 11th 8 am ? 12 pm. Actual 1st Repair Appointment. The technicians arrived and completed the work on the upstairs unit in ONE hour. I also called to schedule the appointment for the upstairs repair that day. I was put on the calendar but before we hung up I asked if I would be informed ahead of time if the part had still not arrived. That was when it was suggested that I not schedule the appointment UNTIL the part came in. I do not know why this was not suggested back on June 1st when I first called to schedule. Regardless, we left it where Christian Brothers (CB-AC) would call me when the part came in. June 14th 2 pm, CB-AC called to say that the part was in. However, by then we were on vacation and out of town until July 4th. Was there no way to tell me that it would take 14 days for the part to arrive? Fourteen days is significantly longer than the 1-2 days expected when I first called on June 1st. July 6, I called to schedule the service on our upstairs unit since the part had come in. I was given July 10th 12-5pm time frame. July 10th 12- 5pm First scheduled 2nd repair. 5 pm came and went. At 5:45 my husband called the CB-AC office to inquire about the situation. Evidently one system (in the office) had our appointment for July 10th 12 ? 5pm, but the other system (the driver?s) had our appointment for July 11th. And it was too late for the technician to come by now, but yes our part was in. My husband had taken the entire day off work and we received NO CALL and no apology...and it was the 3rd scheduling screw-up. When we tried to address our frustration, we got excuses and passing around the blame. (I didn't do the scheduling that day, etc.) So we gave up. Forget the money we put out for the Priority Membership. Forget the free inspections. Addressing all those issues would require communicating with the company and scheduling visits to our home. Sometimes the money just isn't worth it.
Description of Work: We were having some issues with our upstairs AC unit. The unit was working constantly was was only cooling the large rooms to 78 degrees. We hired Christian Brothers to come out and perform their $79 Air Conditioner tune-up INCLUDING 2 lbs of Freon special as advertised on Angie's List. The initial consultation was scheduled and the service tech was prompt. After some discussion for my wife we decided to have both AC units checked fully. The problem with the upstairs unit w

Several weeks ago, the AC unit begin to make quite a bit of noise while running and caused our electric power breakers to trip in the house. Although I was able to restore power and the AC, from that time forward, ran fine, I wanted to find out if the there was a problem with the unit. I called Service Experts - the company that acquired the installer of my AC (Strand Bros), and their service tech arrived within two hours. He quickly diagnosed the problem, which required no repair, and determined that the service call was covered the Strand Bros. warranty. As a result, I was not not charged for the visit. I will definitely used Service Experts again, if the need arises!

I called Church services on a Sunday and because our air conditioner didn't seem to be cooling properly and I have a small child and a pregnant wife in the house so I felt that that called for emergency service during the peak of a Texas summer. I called and was told that since it was a Sunday that there was a fee of 144.00 to have a tech come out and figure out the problem. I was comfortable with that and agreed. when the tech got there he was very nice and treated my home respectfully, however he was there for five minutes and said that we had a leak somewhere in the system and that it would cost another 268 to find the exact location of the leak. I sent him away and paid the agreed to 144 for him to come out. my personal opinion is that I should have been notified about that prior to the technician coming out or finding the leak should have been included in 144 price. I would never expect a mechanic to ask me for 150 bucks then pop the hood and say "yup looks like you got an oil leak", but it will cost you another 300 for me to find it. I just feel like I was taken advantage of in this situation and was not told upfront.

Our General Manager contacted [member name removed], spoke with him and discovered that the emergency service charge fee was not properly explained to him. The emergency service charge (diagnostic fee) is charged on the weekend when we do not have technicians scheduled for work. Rather the on-call technician is dispatched on his day off to go to the home and diagnose the problem. Once the diagnosis is made, the technician then provides an estimate to complete the repair. We refunded [member name removed]emergency service charge of $144.00 because of the communication issues in explaining the service charge to him.

I had purchased a big deal for the service, and they are coming back today, because the cold water stream is so weak on the bidet, they had to come back twice to get this done. They don't work very much on padei. It was much more expensive than I expected. They went to Ferguson to get it, I guess, they knew they would get the best price for it there. It was good when they were done, but I was disappointed to find out that the water wasn't as good, and so they will have to come back. We had put it in when we bought the house 21 years ago, and so I didn't reallize how expensive it would be to repair. They had to make two trips because they are not experienced with repairing such a product. The price was expensive, but they are not responsible for that, because they went to the cheapest store, but they still got it so expensive.

After getting several quotes, Joe came over at the end of the day, as scheduled. He took a few minutes to look over the old unit and ask some questions about the symptoms, as well as what we were looking to do. Next he asked me to sit down with him and go over some literature. He had several informative write ups about different things concerning A/C systems. I would also point out he was the only one who gave me a quote that brought any educational materials to go over. Once we went over the materials he gave me the price. They beat all the other quotes, while giving me the brand and seer rating I wanted. We arranged install for the following morning. Morning of the install, I received a call, telling me the guys would be about 20 minutes late. Wow, nice to get a call over just 20 minutes. Jeremy and Stephan showed up, worked all day, cleaned up their mess and was extremely respectful of our house. There was one little problem with the return air grille, as it was to big, but the guys showed up the next morning and took care of it. We are very pleased with the overall experience and would highly recommend Church services for your A/C needs. Sincerely, J. Erickson

Took 2 trips to get it done. Part had to be ordered. Unit is still working though I thought it was a lot of $$ for a repair they told me might not last.
Description of Work: Repaired a switchboard that controlled the air flow.

Total Rip Off! We are on a regular maintenance schedule with them and had them out to fix our AC unit that had stopped working. While I feel like a bone-head...all that was needed was changing the AA batteries on the thermostat. After providing the tech with 2 of our AA batteries...and with a total time of 15 minutes...they charged us $99! We have a lot of quality service providers and I have never been charged $99 for a 15 minute service call where they don't even use any parts and just use the customers parts! $60 - Normal...$99 - Rip off. Complete disappointment and not plan on using them again:(
