Very positive, will continue to use them in the future. I like that for the annual spring & fall service I have the same technician year after year. It was really nice last year when he asked about my oldest dog who passed away earlier that year. He noticed she was missing.
Description of Work: I wasn't sure what to put down for the date, I have been using Northern Air (formally Anderson Air) since 2005. Every time I have needed them they have been there on time and with a fair price. I have recommended them to several friends whom all have had the same positive service.

My neighbor ran over our air conditioner and it stopped working. We are kind of happy with Northern Air Heating & Cooling. My husband has actually worked in that industry so he knows a little bit about air conditioning. We had some other people in the past come and look at it, and we've got completely ridiculous suggestions. They come very quickly and fix it, so we don't have to wait too long.
Description of Work: We used Northern Air Heating & Cooling in end of February because the air conditioner stopped working so they replaced the capacitor.

We contacted Northern Air H & C the morning of July 7 and spoke with the receptionist. She indicated that a service rep would contact us as soon as possible that morning. No one ever called - ever...

I stressed the fact that the installation had to start very early on Monday, as I had a business appointment and had to leave by noon. They agreed to start by 8am - 8:30 at the latest. I was waiting for them by 7:45. Called at 8:15 to confirm the schedule, and was told that the tech was "on his way". Still no show at 9:00 - When I called again, I was informed the tech was 'lost' - and that they were using a sub-contractor for the job. Although I wasn't happy to hear they had subcontracted the job, I agreed to wait a while longer. I called again at 10:00 - still not there, but the tech was being "directed" to our house. The tech arrived at 10:45, much too late to start the job and finish by 12:00. The truck they arrived in was plain, and did not have a Texas HVAC license number on it. I called and cancelled the work. I was very disappointed that what started out as a pleasant engagement went bad so fast. The timing was critical and they failed miserably, even though I waited over the weeked to accommodate their heavy work load. I was not impressed with them sending an apparently unlicensed (and likely uninsured) sub-contractor to do the work. As this forum stresses, it's every bit as important to have a quality technician do the work as the brand of unit you buy. They won the job, then lost it.
Description of Work: We needed evaporator coils replaced in a 5 ton residential unit, one of 2 in the house. The technician came out the day I called. He was very professional and knowledgable. I was impressed, and scheduled the work for the following Monday. Although we were having 100+ days, I was willing to schedule the work for the following week because half the house was cold, and we could live with it.

I've used them for the last two years. In south Texas, heating and A/C is our lifeline, so we went through Angie's List because we had just bought a house here and I was kind of shooting blind. I looked at the reviews, and they were punctual and even though they were pricey, you got what you paid for. It was a reliable review and that's why I chose them. Every time they come out they're reliable, and I don't mind paying them more than a cheaper guy. That's why I keep calling them back.
Description of Work: They came out and replaced a blower unit and a furnace.

Service was good, the prices are way out of line with competitors. Be sure & get other estimates before using them!
Description of Work: We had our 4 ton replaced last summer. We were having trouble with our 21/2 ton last week. Called them to come look he said we were low on freon & gave an estimate on the same brand as the replaced one. He said it would be considerably lower since 11/2 ton smaller. The total was 6,853.00, our 4 ton was 7.313.40. We have called & gotten estimates from 2 different companys on exact model we were quoted from this company they were within 100.00 of eachother. However this companys estimat was 2,300.00 higher! Initially we were impressed with thier services. Now we feel we were charged way too much!

I thought it went well. He came when he said he would and did what we asked him to do. Intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose and correct unless they are occurring right in front of you at the time.
Description of Work: Our furnace was acting up (not turning on and off properly) We had used Anderson Heating & Air last year for an annual check up on our A/Cso we called them again.Jason came out and believes it is the control board on our unit causing on intermittent problem and gave us an estimate to replace the board. I lean towards the "let if fail" side of things. We did not have the conversation about what happens if we replace the board and that is not what is causing the unit to not come on or to shut off early.

Two years ago Anderson AC (now called Northern Air) installed a new Amana AC unit at my house. Around 5 or 6 weeks ago we contacted Northern to come out and do the annual maintenance on it, which they did. Around 2 weeks later the unit stopped working. Arturo Alcedo (Northern's technician) came out to find the problem. The Hard Start kit that was originally installed in the unit when we purchased it had burnt out and tripped the breaker. Arturo explained what the Hard Start Kit was for and said although we did not need it for the unit to run it would help prolong the life of the compressor. I decided to go ahead and have it installed. Arturo did not have one with him and so called in for the price and wrote up a work order. The parts cost $185 (Arturo wrote this on our invoice) and there would be no charge for coming back to install it as we had already paid for him to come out on the original service call. We then paid Arturo for the service call $79.00. Arturo came back and installed the Hard Start kit. We weren't home at the time so he left the old parts and an invoice by the front door with a note to call in and arrange payment. Also left was the "5-2-1 Compressor Saver" (i.e. Hard Start kit) information sheet. I decided to look it up on the Internet to learn more about what it actually did. I was VERY surprised to find that the kit I was charged $185 for retails for $40, and no doubt a commercial account like Northern's would purchase it for less than that. I sent an e-mail to Mr. Clinton (I believe he is the owner) and Mr. Aaron Cari the GM. Mr. Cari & I exchanged numerous e-mails over a period of three weeks. I made it clear that I would pay a fair price for the Hard Start kit but I had no intention of paying four and a half times as much as I could buy it for over the Internet. Then I reviewed the original invoice from 2 years ago when Northern installed my AC unit. It states quite clearly on the invoice that I have a 10 year parts and labor warranty. So it turns out I should not have had to pay for either the service call or the parts. I sent this information to Mr. Cari who the proceeded to send me an invoice for of $184.60 for the Hard Start kit. I have since contacted the BBB and filed a complaint.
Description of Work: Northern technician came out & found problem with unit was a burned out Hard Start kit that had tripped the breaker. Reset breaker and gave price for anew Hard Start kit. See details below.

Jason phoned me shortly after I left a message with their answering service. He told me when he could be at my home. He was prompt, courteous, and took the time to explain what the problem was. He also gave his opinion about ways in which I could improve the energy savings. He repaired the air conditioning within 30 minutes.

We are pleased with their work. We found them on Angie's list and they were very quick to respond to my email messages and phone calls. They supplied a prompt estimate, showed up on time to scope the work and also showed up on time for the repairs. They completed the work as outlined in the estimate and charged me the same amount of money.
Description of Work: These repairs were related to damage from Hurricane Ike. I asked them to come out and examine the system and tell me what repairs were necessary to restore it to working order. 1. Replaced duct work in the attic. 2. Replaced the plenum. 3. Reconnected two return air ducts. 4. The upstairs return air needed to be sealed and they also cut some wood between floors for improved air flow. 5. Repaired drain lines in the attic. 6. Installed new grilles. 7. Installed a new thermostat and checked out the system.

My upstairs a/c unit was clicking on and off when we turned the A/C on recently. Knowing that can damage the condensor (outside unit) we turned it off. I called Anderson/Northern Air around 5pm as they were highly rated on Angie's List and local to our home. Next day, I was called back and an appointment was arranged for the following morning. I mentioned Angie's List but I forgot to ask the call out charge. Jason Belz arrived on time, well, actually before I got home despite giving them the earliest time I would be there. He checked the attic (evaporator coils etc) and the outside (condensers). He was polite and wore little yellow booties to protect my floors/carpet. Service description: Found freon very low on upsatirs system. Found freon leak at evaporator coil 3 ton. Recommendation: Option 1 - install Trane 3 ton evaoprator coil, pan, float, driers (? can't read his writing) 5 yr parts 1 yr labour $1881.22 (inc. 10% off for Angie's List) Option 2 - Install Trane XL 15i 410A Freon condensor and Trane evaporator coil. 10 yr parts & labor warranty $6696.47 (inc 10% off for Angie's List) I did ask if we could just refill the freon but was told no, that wouldn't work. I paid $89.95 for this service call. Having had A/C work done before I thought the prices were high and I was annoyed he'd tried to upsell me a brand new condensor when there was no problem with the outside unit! I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called Alpine Air as they had done work on our previous home 55 miles away and they covered our new area! Next day, 10am, Jim (same guy who did all our work in Katy) was there, checked everything (took off his boots). Found same leak problem, but suggested refilling freon to see what happened saying "it might see us through 48 hours or it might see us through the summer." He did quote to replace the same Trane replacement coil ($1450) and said no problems with outside units but to bear in mind they are 11 years old now. Alpine's cost $75 call out + $75 freon. The total of $150 would be deducted from bill if we go ahead and replace the coil in the near future. So far, its not really been warm enough to really test the system but we shall be using Alpine Air if the coil does need replacing as $431 quote plus the $150 callout = $581 cheaper!

Response from Northern Air
We would like to thank the member for the opportunity to service her. I would like say that our technicians have been with us for ten years plus. They are very skilled in assessing and recommending the best solution for every customer. When there is an evaporator coil that is leaking freon it is against State regulation to refill the coil with freon. The reason: When there is a leak in the coil it releases harsh chemicals in the environment and releases the same harsh chemicals within the home's vents and ducts. We strongly recommend that this type of chemical is not circulating within the home. It is in our day to day practice to recommend the best possible solution for each of our customers. If there is a system that is an older system we will always recommend and educate the customer in replacing the old system to a more energy efficient unit. This will save money in the long run and be environmentally friendly! Are we more expensive than other A/C companies? Yes. Are we less expensive than some A/C companies yes. When it comes professional service and installation we are on the top of the list. Thank you!

Overall, very good. The company did an excellent job getting a technician over as quickly as possible. The only minor point is that nobody from dispatch mentioned a service call fee of $90, which is twice as much as our last A/C technician charged. I like to know what I'm being charged before I get handed a bill. Other than that, professional and technically proficient service. I would recommend them again.
Description of Work: One of our A/C units was not maintaining temperature and we signed up for a service call online with Northern Air. They responded by phone and e-mail the next morning and had a service rep onsite within 24 hours to take a look. The tech found a short in the blower due to an overamped motor, which needs to be replaced ($455).

We have all our systems covered under a home warranty, but were told it would be 3 days before the warranty service provider could come out. Thinking it was a small problem and not wanting to wait, I called Anderson based on Angie's List reviews. The office staff was excellent and fit my request in for same day service. I really appreciate their speed. My mother-in-law was at home for the service call. The tech. showed up when he said, and was professional. He determined that the problem was a faulty gas valve that needed to be replaced at a cost of $480. We thanked him for coming, paid his service call fee, and waited for the Warranty service firm to come out. They determined that the issue was not the gas valve, but a loose wire. The tech fixed the wire and we instantly had heat again. The warranty company service man even showed me how to work my new programmable thermostat. Anderson could be right and we may need a new gas valve, I don't know. But I do know that the warranty company got the heater working instantly for a $60 service call. I ranked Anderson lower on quality to reflect that the fix that they proposed was far more expensive than the ultimate solution that solved the problem.

Our heater had been repaired by a different company a few weeks before Thanksgiving. When we got back from the holiday we came home to a chilly house and the heater hadn't been fixed. I called Anderson and scheduled an appointment that same afternoon. Charlie came out and cleaned a part that had collected some debris. He said that replacing it was not crucial, but we decided that we wanted to go ahead and do it, especially since the price quoted was so reasonable. The part was ordered and he came out 2 days later to install it and also install a digital thermostat that we had purchased and he urged us to out in. I was happy with everything. Cindy was a pleasure talking to on the phone and Charlie did a great job! We paid just under $200 for the parts, labor and service call. I just wished I had called them weeks ago so that I could have saved the other $200 we had paid the first company that didn't fix our problem. Thanks guys! Casey and Jeffrey Poche'.

The estimator spent quite a bit of time assessing our home and needs. I was impressed with the professionalism during our appointment and was sure Anderson was going to be one of the companies we considered for our HVAC replacement. Unfortunately, we finally had to contact Anderson to get them to send the estimate. When we received it quite a few of the items we had discussed weren't part of the proposal. We had also requested Anderson to provide options (14 SEER, 16 SEER, Humidity Control) which they didn't do.

Initial response to phone inquiry from me was very good. Team arrived at time agreed. However, problem resolution required a part to be ordered, and them to return to fit it. They called and set up 3 different times to fit the part, but did not show nor call to postpone the first two revisits, which was frustrating. On the third reschedule they turned up and fitted part. System now working fine. Price seemed reasonable.

It was easy to schedule an appointment, and I was given a service window from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm; however, on the day of the service, they offered to let me know when they were about an hour away. That allowed me to stay at work as long as possible. Anyway, the technician was very nice and polite, and he figured out what was wrong (there was a clogged drain pipe and a lot of dirt build-up on the outside unit) and explained it in detail. He showed me what he did and answered my questions with patience!
