We were greeted with a lengthy pool service history about how much the owner know and does. we met about a pool design, agreement made and selections made. We started the build on the pool, where 1 man came, marked, dug and moved dirt with one machine. We originally discussed our soil situation where it was agreed that Reynold's would take a soil sample and confirm a process to insure stabilization to help prevent cracking along with a double rebar mat. The soil sample never happened. Once the hole was dug, the rebar crew came out to start tying steel, while a young employee also start running the plumbing. I knew he was new, because of the way he was running the line. Instead of using the shovel to move dirt lower, he would use elbows to maneuver around things making the plumbing flow more extreme than easy. The lights were installed very poorly in position, which showed up up after plaster. At this point, no one from Reynolds had contacted me nor did representative come to approve any of the work at this point. The gunite crew show up doing their job, which took the day and were proficient. The tile, coping and water fall were installed, providing a nice clean neat job. At this point, still no one had been on location to see job. During this plumbing, pump and electrical was being run. I noticed one day late that they were putting electrical in the ground with direct burial wire. I specifically asked for conduit, which had to be corrected at a later date. Next came the plaster where the guys showed up and started their job. Once complete and starting to clean up, they were washing plaster and putting it on my existing yard where we were told they would be self contained and they would pump into barrels and this would not be put on the ground surface. We had to stop this and get them to clean and put into barrels on their on their crew truck. STILL NO ONE form Reynolds on site. That afternoon, we started filling pool, where finally a representative from Reynolds showed up to collect last check. They did a walk around, and within 10 minutes left location. Once pool settled and we turned power on, we kept tripping breakers in the main panel. Hiring an electrician, we found that other breakers in the box had been loosend, the pool breaker was tightened half way, breaker was getting hot and making the pool trip. The decking was the next task, were a flower bed was formed up with a 2" pvc pipe going from the bed under the deck. I told the employee running the plumbing that this would not work because of our ground and type of select fill Reynolds was using. He was told it would swell and make would crack the deck. Nothing was done, pipe was left there. We now had to remove dirt out of yard where we had to wait for backhoe operator to get back from an oilfield job. I was told the budget $ for this process and found a local operator to bring trucks and tractor to remove the dug dirt and install the "fill dirt for the decking and back fill around pool. This last job was scheduled with Reynolds by Operator, where the Reynolds employee showed up late and was supposedly sick. I had to stay on site to oversee loading, hauling and back fill of job. I had to go to my personal job for 2 1/2 hours to check on my customer and gave specific instructions to Reynold's employee on what to do with backfill. When I returned the employed had left. At this time is was 2:00 pm. I continued moving dirt with the operator, and shoveling and raking dirt by hand around the perimeter of pool. Once this was complete I made a phone call to the owner of company and he had "ZERO" concern for how the job was or was completed. The only thing he saw was a the site, a signed contract, draws made and numerous texts from myself about my concerns for the pool, which were never seen. Getting through this we paid for the flagstone coping to be sealed, which was paid for up front. The application was poor and the entire coping bubbled up. They came out twice to strip sealer and reapply, where the 3rd time they just stripped it and left it off. We had plaster issues, where we had big white spots within the blue color. Some were 12"-14" in diameter. We had to do an acid bath on the pool for several days, within the first month of pool operation. Almost immediately the back side of the water fall had leaking water, which was addressed 3 years later. Also, immediately, where the pvc pipe was inserted from the flower bed, the decking started to crack right down the top center of this pipe, because the "select fill" used began to swell from the water seeping around that pvc pipe. This was discussed from the beginning, but Reynolds knows best from his years of experience. Fixing the coping sealer 3 times, the water fall 3 years later, hiring an electrician to come fix an electrical problem, having to oversee some of the steps because of NO representation, Pool lighting being recessed deeper than gunite wall surface, plaster color issues, type of select fill used without seeing it, having to find local people to complete job for Reynolds, we still have a pool. Reynolds addressed cracking around a skimmer drain that was reported the same time as the deck cracking. This problem was addressed 2 years later, but still refuses to address decking. Today, 3 years later, they refuse to address this major issue.

Description of Work: My sister had this service for her home pool for at least 3 yrs. There were one problem after another and nothing but excuses of why things were not fixed properly and in a timely manner. I was with my sister through out this nightmare and physically present for some of the interactions between the owners wife and my sister. These are the most unprofessional, ,lying thieves that would gouge the bill any way they wanted. The wife, who said she was the owner, would make up prices off the top of her head and the husband would step in and do something much different and costly. We found many discrepancies in the billing dates, how many times they went out there and what they were saying they were adding to her pool. In 1 month alone, they said and CHARGED her for 56 gallons of "shocker." They gave one day that was billed as being out 3 separate times that day, just hrs apart. My sisters pool was so green and unhealthy that no one could even use it. When my sister canceled her service, she did it in person and was humiliated, yelled at and essentially told to leave their office and all communication would be through email or phone. We went back together with all of our notes, emails, charges and contradictions and dealt with the wife, AKA the owner after waiting more than 1 hr to speak with her. My sister was arguing the final charges, because there were so many contradictions in the emails and calls they made to her. We stayed 1 1/2 hrs and the wife asked my sister thought she was fair and they eventually came to an oral agreement. We asked to wait for something in writing to show the bill was paid in full and nothing further was owed from her! The wife said "she was too busy and stressed to do it that moment would write it up and have it ready by the next morning. My sister wanted to give them a check that moment to be done with this business. The following am, the husband OF THE wife, "claimed owner" sent my sister an email and essentially said that he would not agree to anything they had worked out and he gave a new bill and told her she had 5 days before he would file a lawsuit, as he claimed he was the owner. My sister was in process of a divorce/selling her house and Mr Reynolds threatened to blocking the sale until he got what he wanted. I have never seen such a dishonest, poorly managed company in my 54 years. I feel there is some investigation into the business and seeing how they are gouging prices and telling different people that one or the other were the owners. It didn't make any sense and it still doesn't. Our family is in the construction business and most everyone we have talked to about our experience with "Custom Pools By Reynolds." I have heard that they have moved around the area for many years and have changed the company name a few times. Everything I have said is completely true but there were many more things I didn't have time to include. I truly feel sorry for anyone looking to use their server without thoroughly researching reviews of prior customers who took the time trying to be honest and educate them about their experience. I wouldn't use that company and the couple running it no matter they are trying to see at the time. It's very sad that they have gone on so long doing this kind of unscrupulous and unethical type of damage in such a small community!

Response from Custom Pools By Reynolds
The review above by the sister of the plaintiff May 15th is addressed to La Vernia Pool & Spa NOT Custom Pools by Reynolds. There is very little truth at all in any of the above comments. There apparently is a practiced pattern of behavior here that will soon become clear. Unfortunately this review venue does not provide a means to confirm any postings nor does it allow for mediation between plaintiffs. I do not like having to respond in this manner in a venue like this, but we have a very good reputation, excellent testimonials, and loyal and very satisfied customers. We were just unfortunate enough to be engaged by someone with a reputation for cheating small businesses. The homeowner was only on the pool service for less than 7 weeks NOT “at least 3 years” as she states. That first lie clearly lays the groundwork for the remaining items that she is disputing in this review. How can anyone confuse 7 weeks with 3 years? She signed up for the weekly pool cleaning and chemical service on Wednesday 7-9-14. She signed up on the service because she was going to sell her house and her pool was GREEN with algae from either neglect or poor equipment or a combination of both. At the time the home was unoccupied and as far we knew no one was maintaining the pool. She sat in my office and read through the service agreement before she signed it. Our service agreements specifically state all fees and charges. The monthly service is a flat rate plus chemicals and the “Green-2-Clean” service is a flat rate per site visit plus needed chemicals. As any pool service company will attest, before NORMAL weekly service can go forward the pool being serviced has to be in proper shape to BE serviced. A green pool can involve labor and chemical charges above and beyond the charges applied for a pool in proper condition to be serviced normally. Prior to beginning weekly chemical and cleaning services we a field survey of the pool being serviced. The service rep performed a Field Survey on 7-10-2014 at approx 4:38 PM per the GPS unit in the service truck. Field Surveys are performed to determine pool size and gallons (needed for treatment calculations) and to survey the general condition of the pool. The Field Survey noted Water Conditions as GREEN and with VISIBLE ALGAE. The “Green-2-Clean” service began the next day on Friday 7-11-2014 at approx 6:50 PM per the GPS unit on the service truck, and was the first of 4 initial site trips with the purpose of targeting killing the algae and cleaning (vacuuming) out the dead algae and other organic materials that can and will lead to further algae blooms. She was invoiced at our prevailing (and published) rate for these 4 visits plus the added chemicals per the service agreement she signed on July 9th. The last 4 visits, the final visit being 8-29-2014, were invoiced at the standard monthly service rate (prorated to the exact charge) plus the necessary chemicals. At the end of this frustrating encounter with both the homeowner and her sister, she had the gall to state her pool was not green when all along the original request for our services stemmed from her need to get her pool cleaned up so she could take photos for her real estate listing. To walk into our store at the end of 7 weeks of service that she had no intent of paying for to tell us that her pool was not green to begin with is an out-right lie. The service rep added 16 gallons of liquid shock on the very 1st visit on 7-11-2014. That is something that would clearly not be needed if her pool was blue and clear as she stated when disputing the charges. All of the above site visits, treatments, & water testing results are properly documented in an on-line database service program, email “door hangers” sent to the homeowner, and confirmed with GPS records from the service truck. The homeowner’s pool was green with an algae bloom because of poor and faulty equipment, improper maintenance, and the resulting neglect of addressing these issues in a timely manner. The second piece of technical service (equipment service work) involved with this homeowner began shortly after the chemical and cleaning treatment services began. Please note: the service reps clean and chemically treat pools only. We have different staff of service technicians that work on repairing or replacing faulty or broken pool equipment (pumps, timers, filters, lights, pool cleaners, etc). The service technician found a leak on one of the pool skimmers on the very first diagnostic service call and repaired it at that time. As noted above we began the “Green-2-Clean” cleaning and chemical service 7-11-2014, 2 days after she signed service agreement. Over that 7 week period the service rep cleaning and treating the pool sent several email notices to inform her that she needed to add water to her pool. On several occasions the water level was TOO LOW to properly vacuum and/or chemically treat. You can’t add chemicals or “shock” to a swimming pool that can’t be circulated because of low water level. And low water levels can inhibit your ability to back-wash (clean) a pool filter as back-washing wastes water onto the ground. The water level issue was a result of the leak found in one of the skimmers (repaired) and a faulty float valve in the automatic water leveler (repaired). The service technician also found issues with her pool pump (required a seal kit and an impellor), and pump timer (replaced the internal timer mechanism). The service technician (again not to be confused with the service rep cleaning and treating the green pool) made four (4) trips to the pool site, plus equipment & material, and site visits. We billed her for only 3 site visits, plus equipment for these 4 “technician” site visits. The equipment and technical service time billed for was above and beyond the recurring visits to “shock” (super-chlorinate) and clean the pool. Yes we did add 56 gallons of liquid shock to the pool over the 7 week period in an attempt to kill and control the algae under the poor equipment performance situation and more precisely her lack of attention to the water level until she engaged us to send the service technician to the pool. And as noted above, the low water level in the pool often prevented a full vacuum or chemical treatment until we discovered the issues with the leak and the faulty water leveler. Our inability to properly perform a full clean and treatment is not our fault. Homeowners are responsible to maintain proper water levels in their pools. Read the T&Cs on ANY pool service agreement and you will see this. She apparently ignored or missed some of these initial notices. The homeowner signed the chemical and cleaning service agreement that clearly shows our monthly service charges, our “green-2-clean” labor charges, and chemical charges that we advertise. She is again wrong (or perhaps she is not being truthful with her sister) in stating we make these things up. That is another ridiculous statement. Our labor and chemical charges are clearly visible and published on the service agreement and published on a message board behind the check-out counter. The homeowner refused pay for the services rendered and she cancelled her service after less than 7 weeks. She and her sister did come by our store and loudly argued the valid charges. They were clearly the verbal aggressors not us. Our subsequent collection efforts were unsuccessful. We did not threaten a “law suit”. We did however send a past due notice in September followed up later in October by a written notice of “intent to file a mechanics lien” to recover our billing charges of $1,144.15. Apparently neither of them understands the difference between a lawsuit and a mechanics lien. Filing a mechanics lien does NOT guarantee payment to any service provider. We are a small business and being cheated on $1,144.15 is a big thing for a small business. Mechanics Liens are a common practice for service providers to attempt a debt recovery and often the only avenue for debt recovery. However, we decided not to pursue that course of action and simply wanted her and her sister out of our lives and out of our store. On another note the sister of the homeowner apparently puts no thought on making unsubstantiated comments and unfounded accusations. Custom Pools by Reynolds LLC, a separate entity from La Vernia Pool & Spa LLC, has not and does not “move around the area” and change names. I have operated under Custom Pools by Reynolds exclusively as either a DBA or LLC in Wilson County since inception. She is making ridiculous statements and accusations that she has no clue about. How can ANYONE believe anything from someone so deceitful? The insinuation of this disparaging statement may result in further follow up on my part to protect my reputation. Perhaps by making up false accusations and posting disparaging remarks these individuals perhaps gain some feeling of false assurances to justify their poor behavior. Later in the fall of 2014 we did learn from several customers and local business operators that frequent our store that this not an uncommon behavior for the homeowner, as several of our patrons had personal knowledge of similar encounters with her happening to other small businesses around our community. The pattern of behavior becomes apparent. She still owes us $1,144.15. And we will continue to pursue payment by any means necessary. Regardless of our efforts in this written response to slanderous comments I doubt she will admit to being in the wrong and further comments will likely be posted. I have no intent to respond any further in this venue but will continue to seek payment and perhaps address by other means the disparaging remarks and insinuations made. I invite her to call or set a meeting with myself in an attempt to resolve these issues. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

My husband is not pleased. I guess there were certain things that we didn't care with the way they handle as far as pride in their work I guess. He dealt with me through emails but I wasn't there and my husband is and they didn't coordinate with him as to what is going on. I wish that would have been handled a little better. Other than that, I love my pool. I like what it is like and the design. We were happy but after that we weren't very happy with them.
